The hosts were so lovely and the breakfast yummy! Our room was big and had self catering facilities as well. The pool area was well maintained and very quiet.
Nothing
Very friendly owner and staff. Breakfast was great. Clean and spacious rooms.
The location is not the most ideal. It’s not bad, just not the best location to explore Tulum.
We had a two-bedroom suite. It had a living room/kitchenette with table and chairs and two of those foldable chairs made of cushions that you can fold out into a single bed or use as a chair. We didn't cook in the kitchen. Both bedrooms had one large bed. One bedroom was en suite and the other had a bathroom right outside the door. The location is very good within the La Veleta neighborhood. It's a bit far out for walking if you want the restaurants and shops of main road through town. Parking is on the street, but is easy and very close. There's a small, pleasant pool. A simple breakfast with three choices is included. The owner was accommodating when I asked in advance to change the dates of our pre-paid reservation, shortening the stay by one night. We received good communication in advance from the owner, with tips about the local area.
There's a single air conditioning unit in the living area. To cool the bedrooms, you need to run the living room unit quite cold. I don't like to leave AC on when I'm not in the hotel room, but since these bedroom were harder to cool, it felt necessary to leave it on to some extent even when we weren't there. The wifi worked pretty well in the living room, but dropped out very frequently in the bedrooms.
Magical Place with Good vibes with Pool and Beautiful very Special Garden and great Restaurant, cool Location with Yoga classes, Massage and more… Coming back, definitly to recommend?
We liked the kindness of the staffmembers and the beauty of the accomodation!
Everything was perfect, the only thing was that the fridge was a bit noisy
Nooks and hammocks in shade of coconut palms… this compound is a treat
Check in velocissimo e camera consegnata in anticipo perchè già pronta. Stanza grandissima e confortevole, sala yoga molto bella e spaziosa. Che dire, bravissimi e a presto!
Nulla, andava tutto bene, unica cosa Wi-fi da potenziare un po'.
Everything about the hotel!! The spacious and comfy room, to the really friendly staff and Gia is really nice and helped us booked taxi tours and find the best deal when we were looking for Chichen Itza tours. Thank you for making our stay in Tulum an awesome one!
Absolutly good vibes and Garden with Pool, Yoga Space, breakfast and Room, Close to Restaurants and Shops
The rooms were big and great value. Nice pool and amazing location
First of all, the hotel owner was very friendly, accommodating, kind and always available if I needed anything. This hotel was really peaceful and that is what I liked the most. The hotel room had everything I needed and was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable so I felt rested the next day. There are a lot of restaurants nearby and the hotel restaurant was also quite nice. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a calm and restful vibe.
Nothing really. Everything was good
There was love in Every corner , an oasis of beauty, calm and peace
I’m so glad I found Sonido del Mar! Tucked away from the street, with an entrance discreetly hidden behind a restaurant, this place is a peaceful oasis. It’s incredibly serene, with a space for both massages and rooftop yoga—both of which I took full advantage of. My favorite feature, though, was the outdoor ambiance around the pool. Throughout the day, calming ambient music plays softly in the background, creating a meditative atmosphere that made me feel completely at home. In the mornings and early evenings, I noticed a beautifully timed sequence of meditative bells, which gently prompted me into moments of stillness and reflection right there in the courtyard. There are so many cozy corners to settle into and center yourself—and it’s impressively quiet. The unit itself was fantastic: strong A/C, a perfect little kitchen, a comfy seating area, big patio, and a large, super comfortable bed. I could have easily stayed much longer. The staff, including Paola the owner, are kind, warm, and genuinely welcoming. If you're looking for a place that helps you stay grounded and connected to the purpose of your travels, this is it. I hope to return soon—maybe even for a longer stay, if Paola will have me :)
Amazing, very loving
Leaving
I loved my stay. Beautiful room, very helpful welcoming owner and daughter who was more than willing to help and offer advice. Pool refreshing and having a great little restaurant out the front was a bonus. Definitely would stay here again recommend highly.
Nothing
Staff and their vibe were outstanding, helpful at all times.
Very nice swimming pool and relaxing lounge chairs Yoga classes take place on the rooftop under a palapa which is very nice. Good location, away from the noisy Main Street and close to restaurants. The staff are friendly and helpful
Although there is a kitchenette, it is not fully supplied. It would be nice to have salt and pepper provided. The owner and her daughter are very nice and helpful but the owner smokes a lot at reception. I really dislike cigarette smoke so I found that very unpleasant
Nice place , cosy , enjoy Yoga under à palapa , very clean, and thé host is super nice ..
Great location. Helpful staff. Wonderful room.
Friendly atmosphere, the staff created a welcoming vibe and helped with renting a motorbike. The pool area was a nice place to relax.
The room quality and conditions were extremely disappointing. - The room was unclean upon arrival, with visible dirt everywhere, spider webs on the bedroom walls, and stained bed sheets. It took 2 full days and repeated requests before the staff finally removed the spider webs from the walls. - The humidity was overwhelming, making the floor sticky at all times. Our clothes became damp and absorbed a strong smell of moisture, making the entire stay uncomfortable. We haven’t experienced this in any other hotel in Tulum. - While the kitchen window faced the pool, the bedroom “window” opened onto a wall packed with maintenance equipment. Worse, the curtains were too short to provide proper coverage. - The sinks and curtains were so poorly installed that curtains fell when we tried to move them. The furniture felt cheap, adding to the overall poor quality of the room. - We paid $620 for just three nights, yet two-thirds of our stay was uncomfortable due to these issues. Instead of offering real compensation, the hotel gave a credit for a future stay, knowing full well that we live on the other side of the world and won’t be returning anytime soon. This felt like a meaningless and empty gesture just to avoid taking any real responsibility. In general it feels like a scam to charge so much for a room in such poor condition and then refuse to compensate in any meaningful way. While the staff was friendly, the hotel’s failure to provide basic cleanliness made our stay deeply disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel unless major improvements are made.
Excellent location, and great service
Location is ok, there's a bike rent nearby. Wifi, comfy beds, shower, kitchen
Nothing really.
The staff were friendly and helpful! The room was large, had a good kitchen and nice veranda. The facilities were all very nice, and breakfast was fresh and fruity. There were cool spots in the area, would recommend if you’re looking to stay in Tulum central.
The fridge was kind of loud but we just turned it off at night 😇
I. Come to Tulum every year and its a 2nd time I stayed here. Very clean, great swimming pool, yoga and massage on site ! Shops are within 1 min walk and lots of good restaurants including hotel restaurant as well. I highly recommend!
Location and service
Nothing
Staff was very nice, especially Luis at reception
- Included Breakfast at restaurant in front of hotel was only fruits/granola, coffee and juice. Other stuff was extra - no air conditioner in bedrooms, only in living room
The staff was so amazing, icing on the already delicious cake. Thank you for such a great experience, see you next time!
Everything was great!
A wonderful property with delightful owners. Great location using yoga daily was a wonderful benefit. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Only negative was that the room was a bit dark without a lot of sunlight.
A slice of heaven amongst busy Tulum Centro. The perfect oasis for the family.
- Located in La Veleta which has pros and cons, a bit far from the bus station but close to good restaurants. We walked a lot and it was fun - Great staff - Room was beautiful and had a small kitchen - Breakfast was decent, we liked the yogurt and granola but the toast was lackluster - Nice pool and hangout spots - Yoga - Overall good value property and nice location - Daily room service was a big plus!
- Noise: Heard a lot of noise until night and also early morning - Light: Not all windows had curtains and so we had issues with it getting light very early - Hot water: Lasted around 5-6 minutes on average, too short for a full shower
Amazing little boutique hotel located in la veleta. The vibe is boho and we directly felt home thanks to Paula and her daughter! Walking distance to great restaurants and much cheaper than the hotelera neighborhood, we felt in love!
It was a very good value for money! Not a luxury place but very cosy and clean!
The host was really lovely and friendly, she organised bikes for us to hire and there is yoga on the roof top ( for additional charge) the rooms were comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was fresh and delicious.
Be aware that there is an additional state tax to pay when you arrive - over and above what you have already paid
Very clean and nice and big rooms
Nothing
Staff is incredible, location is central but quiet.
music by the pool is distracting if trying to read and relax
I liked very much the facilities and the yoga classes option. There is a beautiful little pool to freshen up and spend the afternoon in. The room was very big and comfortable, I loved the decoration, it also comes with snacks and drinks for extra pay.
I didn't like the breakfast, there was no option for gluten free diet.
Very sweet and accommodating.
A little far from the center but not terribly, you definitely need a bike, car or scooter if you stay here.
Clean spacious room, daily cleaning service, super nice and friendly staff, quite, close to Tulum center and ADO bus station, relaxing, free water in the room, kitchen, close to many great restaurants and cafes
There was no hot water during last three days of my stay.
Everything
Nothing
Location in a back street of Tulum . A lovely street with excellent bars and restaurants. We much preferred being here than in the main drag . Lovely hotel environment with big room and was quiet at night. Nice pool area and yoga on site a bonus.
Nothing
Best location in La Veleta, and everywhere is so clean and tidy. Swimming pool is small, but beautiful. Everyone that works there is so friendly.
Everything is perfect.
Great location, friendly and attentive staff, spacious rooms. Nice peaceful atmosphere and nice gardens. The breakfast was great and the poolside was clean and comfortable. Nice guests.
Rooms were a little empty - some more decorations would go a long way... a little art, some furniture. The staff were kind and added a couch for us.
Very beautiful garden, nice pool area , aesthetic design. The staff were amazing, always helpful, at the front. We had a lizard in our room (small) and despite the nighttime, one of the staff helped us a lot, and even checked the room if there is more. Huge thank you for that!
WiFi wasn’t working properly in the room, no service there, the shower has to get fixed, it is impossible to shower there.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
The WiFi was spotting some nights. There wasn’t much storage space for clothes if you had more than one person.
Nice pool, nice employees, very good breakfast.
Bathrooms need improvement.
Breakfast was delicious, servers were great, grounds were peaceful and beautiful.
I didn’t like what has happened to Tulum. Clash of cultures. Very busy with tourists and traffic, I feel sorry for the locals who have seen the changes in what was once a very nice, authentic Mexican town. Constant traffic jam and trash everywhere. No real beach access unless you are staying at one of the beachfront hotels. Inadequate sewage system. Town grew too fast. We won’t go back there. It’s really a shame.
On a street with really cool places!
We stayed in a double room on ground floor, it was big, like an apartment comprised of one double bed and one single spare bed in another room. The hotel is nice, clean, quiet even at night with a restaurant next door. Internet signal was good, not strong enough but reliable. The beds were comfortable. We didn't need to use the fan or the A/C as the room was cool from the high ceiling. The included breakfast is great (fruits+juice+coffee). The staff is friendly and we had a warm welcome. The restaurant of the hotel serves delicious mexican food, it's worth trying it. The pool was big enough but deep (1.75m). They rent bikes at $200 pesos, reserving in advance. We didn't the Yoga classes. Overall, it's a great place to stay away from the buzz of the city center, there's lots of restaurants in the same street and an Oxxo one block away.
Just being picky but 1) The shower needs a bigger curtain, the water was splashing everywhere and 2) Location of the hotel is far from the center so consider paying $150-200 pesos from the ADO as Tulum is ruled by the taxi drivers there, overpriced transportation. Walking distance from ADO is 20-25mins... with baggage in the scorching heat, no thanks!
Great location if you want to stay in La Valletta. Lovely staff, everyone is very friendly. Good little kitchen, clean and not damp!
Everything was superb—staff at both hotel and restaurant were attentive, kind and caring. Lorenza’s has the best tacos! Sonido Del Mar is an absolute gem. The property is beautiful and peaceful. The neighborhood is walkable to other restaurants and shops. There is a pharmacy right across the street with everything you could need. Absolute perfection!
There was absolutely nothing I didn’t like.
Very friendly and kind staff, very clean, lovely pool area, restaurant on site.
Was sometimes noisy at night from surrounding bars.
Heraldo was amazing, he was very friendly and extremely helpful and remember me by name. Lovely breakfast and coffee. Beautiful yoga shala.
Good location, the receptionist was super helpful, smooth check in and out. The yoga session was good too, on the slow side. Bed was comfortable
The shower had 2 options, burning hot or very cold. The breakfast was getting smaller during our stay, which was a bit strange. The bottled water was not on the pricelist but still got charged for it, there wasn't a water refill option. Fridge was very loud in the room. Also a bit too much light in the room from the corridor. One night there was a party somewhere close by... We could hear it loud and clear.
The hotel manager, Gerardo, was very nice and helpful. Any time we needed anything, he took care of it immediately, which made our stay even better. Overall, the hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and approachable. We all became fast friends.
Maybe some additional seating in the main room of the apartment.
Location was perfect! Breakfast was delicious! I loved everything about this place!
The location is great, not in the busy part of town but there are good spots around and it is easy and safe to walk everywhere from there. The hotel facilities are nice, pool and yoga lessons are great. Has a good restaurant in the front and breakfast was great. The best, the staff, super friendly and helpful.
Beautiful boutique hotel! Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spacious and clean, with a balcony, comfortable beds, and equipped with a small kitchen. Great neighborhood full of restaurants, and about a 15 minute walk to the main strip if needed.
Everything was perfect! We will stay here again!
Great staff, attentive, lovely breakfast, clean rooms, attentive staff. Loved it.
I loved everything. Nothing negative to say.
What a little gem. Located in the middle of La Veleta, yet also very quiet - no real noise can be heard in the rooms, not even over New Year's. The rooms are large, clean, come with a kitchenette and a very comfy bed. Staff is lovely, friendly, helpful, always with a smile. Breakfast is included and tasty (it's the same every day, but they have other optiond to choose from at extra cost). The pool area is small but well maintained, though mostly in the shade. There are plenty of restaurants just around the hotel, and you can also walk (15-20mins) to town for more, or to Aldea Zama (25-30mins). Be aware that Tulum Town/La Veleta/Aldea Zama aren't built next ot the beach, so to go there, your best bet is to ride a scooter or bike (which the hotel can help you arrange) - the ride is easy and mostly paved.
Nothing, would stay here again
great, simple, comfortable room. super helpful staff!! breakfast was basic, but healthy. the area was excellent for wandering around at night with tons of options of nice restaurants. we had a little rooftop patio attached to our room overlooking the pool. private & comfortable.
The staff in the hotel and in the restaurant are very nice, friendly and alert and always helpful with recommendations for restaurants, beach clubs and things to do. We felt very welcomed and taken care of. The rooms are big and beds comfortable. Me and my husband had one room and our three teenage sons shared another room next door. There was also a kitchen in our rooms/studios. The breakfast was very tasty. The facilities are pretty and we enjoyed the yoga shala on the roof top. A lot of bars and restaurants next to the hotel and more cool boutiques and restaurants are opening up in this neighborhood. We also enjoyed that it was silent during the night and we slept well.
The shower ran out of hot water quickly in our room.
Exceptional staff were the highlight of the stay, everyone was happily willing to help and walk the extra mile to ensure we had a good time and stay. Gerardo was an exceptional receptionist who happily fulfilled our extra requests and provided very valuable information and insights to make our trip better and enjoy our stay. Maira was very friendly and helpful as well throughout the check-in process. Last but not least, Christian who is the breakfast attendant was very kind, always smiling and projecting positivity ensuring we had a great start to the day.
Close to everything. Quiet, clean, good food and bar and friendly and accommodating staff that went above and beyond!
Nothing. It was wonderful!
Our room was very spacious, it came with a small living space and a kitchenette. The bed super comfortable, very quiet at night. Gerardo and Maira are exceptional receptionists, very accommodating, professional and friendly, made us feel right at home. Christian was our breakfast attendant and he was extremely kind and attentive.
A mirror in the bathroom and a shower curtain!!!
Very cozy place with very big rooms with fully equippee kitchen, super nice and helpful staff, the restaurant was also very good with affordable prices and great mexican food.
I wish I could like this place. The staff was amazing and even gave me a free room upgrade! But the hotel is NOT IT! There were mosquitoes EVERYWHERE and that could easily be due to rainy season but I’ve stayed at other hotels and none were as bad as this. In the bathroom my first 5 minutes I killed 6 mosquitoes… The breakfast was decent, just fruit and bread… I loved the presentation and the staff was overall 11/10
Why is there no AC in the bedrooms??? I get sick if a fan is on while I sleep but still kept the fan on… and was still super hot! Because of the mosquitoes I didn’t wanna leave my bedroom door open.. and because of the mosquitoes I didn’t wanna sleep without covers, so I was just burning up while getting bit up by mosquitoes and it was SO uncomfortable. I’ve never avoided going to my hotel before this place. I dreaded going to sleep. The bathroom had a really bad smell, and the floors always got soacked after my shower because the way it’s set up. But honestly the worst was my room was right by where housekeeping keeps their cleaning supplies so I always woke up to them banging around… I wake up @10am… why am I forced to wake up around 7am because housekeeping. I am on vacation.. I wanted to cry.
Very friendly and professional staff, big clean studio apartments, good breakfast.
Nothing.
Beautiful hotel, spacious suite, & clean
The staff made us cancel our reservation online to give us a better pricing in-person but then after we cancelled it they would not honor the online pricing. We had to fight this during our vacation. Then, they demanded extra for our breakfast which was supposed to be included.
Staff was really amazing with fluent English and stayiver service was awesome.
Interieur in style, felt like a litte cave. Great variety for breakfast, even with vegan options
Wi-Fi didn‘t work from time to time, which was due to blackouts in all of Tulum
delicious breakfasts, beautiful garden with a clean swimming pool (cleaned daily), very helpful owner
everything was perfect for us.
staff is very friendly and it is a cosy place with good breakfast and a nice court with chairs and hammocks next to the pool.
The photos as well as the "normal price" given on booking imply that it is a luxury resort, which it is NOT. So we were first very disappointed as it did not match expectations.
Wonderful hospitaly from everybody there The staff was nice , charming and extremely helpful. Delicious breakfast with fresh ingredients a good selection and flexibility. You feel at home at the hotel immediately and is very clean. Great place
It was an incredible stay. The atmosphere of the hotel is relaxing, cozy and comfortable. We stayed for 3 weeks with our baby and we were so warmly treated every minute of our stay. Everyone ( Flor, Carlos, Carla, la Chiquitita the maintenance crew, the kitchen staff, Paola, even the cats and Pana) went above to make us feel welcomed. We were apprehensive at the beginning thinking it might not be a family friendly hotel but WE WERE WRONG. Truly our best stay in years. The team they've built is fun and warm and always willing to help and give relevant recommendations. We cannot recommend Sonido Del Mar enough <3
The only thing that could have been better is the luminosity in our room but that is really just a detail. We liked our room overall.
Amazing vibes, decor, and just so so beautiful. It was peaceful and serene and wonderful just to sit and take it all in.
They charge the same amount or more to rent bikes relative bike rental businesses in the area. It would have been nice for hotel guests to get a discounted price. I also thought the yoga classes could have been discounted more given that it is advertised as a yoga hotel.
Such a relaxing place in the heart of a busy area with many restaurants and bars. The room had everything to cook for yourself including a nice touch of free bottled water. Hot showers and clean facilities. I even had a hammock outside the room to relax in. The pool is perfect for a dip.
The decor is a little tired but a minor thing
We loved the atmosphere in general. It's a very relax environment. Our room was quite spacious as well including a big balcony and many kitchen utensils etc. if we wanted to use it.
The bed was truly small for two adults, therefore turned out uncomfortable after 3 nights. And the breakfast is only nice, not exceptional as advertised. Other than that all great.
