Beach House Kalukatiya - Family Villa, Seaview Room, Garden Room, Beach Cabana

The beach house is cozy and nicely laid out, with magical fireflies in the garden at night. However, it is simply too small for four adults. The sleeping mezzanine (vide) has a very low ceiling, making it impossible to stand upright. It would be perfect for a family with two adults and two children instead. ​Pros & Amenities ​Kitchen: Fully equipped with a large fridge, perfect for self-catering. ​Sleeping & View: Equipped with mosquito nets and offers a lovely sea view. ​Dining: You can cook your own meals, but if you let the hosts know in time, they can also prepare meals for you. ​Location & Surroundings ​The Beach: Villagers also use the sunbeds on the beach, but we didn't find this bothering at all. ​Swimming: The sea right in front was too rough for swimming during our stay, so you have to head outside the village for calmer waters. Having our own tuk-tuk made getting around super easy. The blowhole was amazing. You can also buy a dayticket at the wellness&beach resort for swimmingpool and calm waters.

There is nothing within walking distance, Connectivity: The Wi-Fi is very poor, and even personal 4G/5G mobile reception is weak.

Super mooi en nieuw huisje. Perfect voor een gezin met twee kinderen. Schoon en op één unieke locatie. 20 min met tuktuk vanaf Herikitya Beach. De zee op tien meter van je huisje. En de eigenaar is ontzettend aardig!!

Alles was echt super.

Indien je van rust en authenticiteit houdt, dan is dit een zeer mooie plek! Weinig of geen toeristen. Prachtig verlaten strand. Een supersympathieke ontvangst. Zeer behulpzaam. Het eten wordt bereid met verse producten door 'mama' en eerlijk, dit waren de beste maaltijden die ik hier heb gegeten. Verwacht géén luxe. De kamer is zeker proper en sfeervol ingericht. Welkom in het échte Sri Lanka.

Dit verblijf is niet voor iedereen geschikt, denk ik. Enkel voor mensen die houden van eenvoud en puurheid. Toen ik aankwam, dacht ik:'Oei', maar die gedachte maakte snel plaats voor een gevoel van rust en tevredenheid.

Beautiful location. Right on the beach. Secluded but still fairly close to the town. Very comfortable and clean space. Amazing home-cooked food. Very friendly and receptive owner. Chamath was extremely warm, helpful and kind from the start and took care of us really well. Arranged transport and everything else we requested. This was by far one of the best places we’ve stayed at on all our trips. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a calm beach getaway! Will definitely be back.

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at Beach House Kalukatiya. The location is incredible — you truly feel like you are alone in the world, surrounded by peace and nature. Chamara and his family and their children are wonderful hosts, warm and welcoming. The families staying in the neighboring houses were lovely as well, which added to the special atmosphere. It was a timeless escape, a real parenthesis out of everyday life. Absolutely fantastic — we highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time at Chamath's accommodation. The apartments are located right on the beach and are very clean. The bed is large and comfortable and has a mosquito net. We took a surfing lesson with Chamath, which was great fun. The breakfast was exceptional; we recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast – very tasty! The dinner was also really delicious; we had grilled prawns and fish. We would definitely come back, thank you for the wonderful stay!

We had an a-ma-zing time with Chamath! His family villa made us feel like we had our own little private paradise. What a fantastic view and lovely garden for our 3 kids to play in. They made friends with Chamath’s son and really enjoyed the beach. Dinner by Chamath’s mom was so good, just like our dinner at the nearby Sunshine Cafe. The evenings outside in the very comfortable chairs with the sound of the waves and little fireflies everywhere.. magical :) What made this stay the most special though: Chamath himself. We did a full day of surfing lessons, first for our kids, then for ourselfs and he was such an amazing teacher! He asked to friends to watch our kids while he was teaching us, they were great as well :) Chamath took us everywhere with the tuktuk and we were all a little sad to leave this amazing place and great guy. Chamath, again; thank you so so much, stūtiyi <3

Hard to fault and all together nothing that would make us not want to go again! But the water pressure was not great although the outdoor shower was much better. And we were very very hot. No airconditioning and a lot of fans but still us Dutchies were having trouble adjusting to the heat. But other than that: perfect!!

Wat een locatie, fantastisch! Eigenaar erg aardig. Diners, gekookt door moeder eigenaar, waren héérlijk. We hebben genoten! Een aanrader als je van rust houdt, strand bijna voor jezelf wil hebben en tussen de locals wil zitten

Das Haus direkt am verlassenen Strand mit einer atemberaubenden Aussicht und einem sehr freundlichen und zuvorkommenden Gastgeber, der ein leckeres Essen gezaubert und alle Wünsche erfüllt hat.

Keine Klimaanlage. Es gab zwar Ventilatoren aber dennoch kann es sehr heiß werden (wir waren im Juli da). Aber es ist auszuhalten.

Away from the ‘cool crowds’ of Dickwella is this Robinson Crusoe Beach house location. Super comfortable beds, fresh fish for supper and Volleyball on the (empty) Beach. Bliss.

Chamath and his family are amazingly welcoming and nice. His son is wonderful and has helped us with all our needs including showing us how to serf. We have been both in the big house and the smaller one. The big house is gorgeous, with mosquitoes nets. The smaller one needs a little upgrading. It is right on the beach and the view and moot is simply perfect. The beach outside the house is of the most wonderful red, yellow and black colors. We even saw some baby turtles

House needs little upgrading: the smaller ones don’t have a fridge, or mosquito nets, I have to say we didn’t have big mosquito problems anyway. The shower in the small bathroom had some problems but Chamath was so nice to change the room for us

We really enjoyed our stay in the beach house, it is so nice close to the beach. Chantal and his family are an excellent host, very nice. He took to the turtle point beach and gave us surf lessons. Every day we ordered dinner from Chamal and it was very delicious what his family prepared. My wife had birthday during our stay, and he organised a cake as well. The waves are there quite big, but it is very nice to take a walk, enjoy the view and the privacy. And there is a lot of nice other beaches nearby. I can just recommend you to stay here!!!

Fantastic location directly on a natural uncontaminated beach, behind is a small village. The host Chamath ready to help and provide anything we needed. Great breakfast and dinner on demand too, cooked by grandma and wife. Simple but clean room with great mosquito net around the bed. There is no AC, but the breeze from the ocean and fan on the ceiling made it unnecessary!

Car can‘t reach there directly, better by tuktuk or the last meters by foot.

Just wow!! This place is a hidden gem. The location is exceptional. Amazing beach with no other tourists around. We had the best time here and didn’t want to leave!!!! We saw turtles coming up to the beach to nest in the evening and saw baby turtles hatched and heading out to sea in the morning. I can’t speak highly enough of this place. It’s close to local families and the children made some great memories with the local children here and had a blast playing cricket on the beach at sunset with them!! We stayed 5 nights and didn’t want to leave. It’s not luxury but was the Sri Lankan dream and our favourite place we stayed during our trip!! Really close to Turtle point (5mins drive) and easy to drive to Hirikiteya and Dickwella from here. Perfect location!!

Air conditioning is the only thing that would make this place even better than it was - the only downside was how hot it was overnight!!

Perfect place if you want to hide from everything and focus on your relax time. You can see, hear and breathe the ocean, really amazing location with its own vibes where you can enjoy sunrise and sunset or walk. Chamath and his family are super friendly and supportive people, food that family cooked was fantastic.

This is paradise. Everything was perfect. Good, clean room with a hot shower. Fantastic food cooked fresh by the family. Right on a beautiful beach. Chama and his family did everything they could to make our stay perfect. We were very sorry to leave.

We had the best time here! We were slightly worried about no a/c but with a ceiling fan and handheld fan, we were more than OK, often turning the fan off when sleeping! The room and bathroom were more spacious than the photos showed and there's good storage space for clothes. Location is amazing....10 steps and you are on a beach! No other tourists around, just occasionally friendly locals who are often fishing. The village itself is quiet, nice and friendly. We rented a moped and always had children smiling and waving whenever we were driving around! Chamath is an absolute legend, we really enjoyed getting to know him. He's a super cool guy who is also a surf instructor, we unfortunately couldn't manage a lesson as I was unwell! Special shout out to Chamath's son Dillan, one of the most polite and sweetest boys we've met! Thank you so much Chamath and family ❤️

Nothing, perfection for us!

Paradise! And pure relaxation. The house is so cute and it's open and airy. With the fan on and the breeze from the ocean, it's a comfortable night's sleep. The sound of the waves is also very peaceful. The beach is quiet and the waves are great for body boarding. Chama offers surf lessons at Hiri and our son loved the experience! If you don't arrive by tuktuk, the last 100m are along a sandy-dirt path: not a problem because it adds to the beach vibe but maybe good to know.

Really nice village. Chamath was super friendly and he and his wife cooked great food. We felt very well all the time. Sunshine Cafe nearby is also very nice. Beach is awesome! Thanks for everything.

Totally unique place, lovely owner and local people. Quiet place with breath taking beach and lots of green around. Very tasty meals, best we had on Sri Lanka, and tner is a surfing coach!

We had to make our stay 1 day shorter at the beginning, now we would chamge plans and be there on time!

Wow was an amazing place. We feel so lucky to have found it and can’t recommend it enough to anyone. Chamath was extremely helpful, always being on call when we needed anything. We also took a surf lesson from him and he was a great teacher. The dinners and breakfasts cooked by his mother were amazing..! We wanted to eat out more but nothing compared to the home cooked food here. The location is exceptional, truly paradise with the most friendly locals making you feel safe and appreciated to be apart of their community. We loved spending time talking to the children, swimming and teaching them to fish. If you want somewhere that is right on the beach with the roaring ocean at night then book here. It’s a little outside of town, but Chamath can arrange you a tuk tuk at any time from his friend who is very reliable. Thank you!!

Nothing! Some people might find the accommodation a bit basic but we loved it. A true beach hut!!

Perfect location direct on a beatiful beach, very nice scenery and view. Terrace with comfortable seating and table. The owner is helpful in organising tuktuk to/from Dickbella and also a surfing lesson - he is even a surfing instructor himself!

The location is in a quiet village without other tourists, bars or restarant (only locals) - which fact we have liked a lot. But someone can miss it. The owner was able to order food local food from the neighbourhood for good price.

The owner is really helpful and helped guide us to some great beaches where the boys loved swimming with turtles. The location is great. Quiet beach with few locals and clean. We loved sitting out seeing the monkeys, fireflies, tortoises, lizards, and toads. Stars were incredible, too. The house is simple and reasonably maintained, with a great price

Very cosy villa with kitchen inside. The patio is nice (with seaview) and had a comfortable loungechair en a bench. patio with seaview. Caretaker is very friendly and speaks good English. His mother and wife can make you dinner wich was delicious. Next to the villa are two rooms but you can't see each other when you are on the patio. The beach is beautiful and you have to share it with only some local people. If you like a quiet place then this is the place for you. Highly recommended!

Authentic experience living on the coast with locals near by. The owner was very helpful and kind. Great for long walks on the beach.

Very simple accommodation with basic bathroom.

It was well located with great hosts, the food that Chamat’s mom cooked is great.

The septic tank was overflowing and into the river, the rooms were mouldy and linen was not upto the mark.

There is only one thing i could say - if the booking scale was even up to 100 i would rate this place a 1000 You couldn't ask for better place, absolutely everything was jus perfect. We couldn't imagine better place to spend few days and we will definitely be back for much longer :)

This is paradise on Earth. With the untouched beautiful beach within 20 metres from our balcony i could hear the waves crashing in the bed. Very nice balcony, comfortable huge bed …. Only local people around. Peace. Long walks. Great food cooked by our host’s family. Great coffee! Best in Sri Lanka. We did not leave the neighbourhood and extended our stay to 6 nights. Hope to come back…..

The place is very cozy and calm, just by the sea. It has kind of a private beach, which is perfect if you want to be away from people, yet on the beach. Facilities are really nice as well designed. The host is great, very helpful & chill, he can arrange scooter, he is a surfing instructor himself, he can arrange whatever you ask him.

We had an absolute blast! The room has just everything you need, the beach in front of the house is beautiful, undeveloped and with no people. The best place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka so far! Chamath is super nice guy and great host. He will help you with anything you may need during your stay. There are no restaurants around but you can always ask for mum’s home made food which is delicious! 😊 If you are looking for a place to chill & relax, far from the beach bars & restaurants, hotels and lot of people, you’re gonna love it here. We will definitely come back when we’re in Sri Lanka again ;)

The property is very tranquil and remote, perfect to get away and enjoy the fireflies. The room is spacious and the bathroom has a heated shower. The owner Chamath is an excellent host, he helped me to get around in his tuktuk and also took me surfing and to play football with some local children and teenagers. Chamath’s mother makes some of the best food I have tasted in Sri Lanka.

It can be hard to find, the road the property it is on is not on googlemaps. However, there is a temple on Kaluketiya Watta Road, if you go to there and phone Chamath he will pick you up.
