Hyde Park Sandton Luxury 2BR Top Floor

The area is perfect. The security of the apartment campus is excellent. The cafe, life center, life center staff, and all of the people who maintain the operations including the cleaning people are excellent. We're considering buying an apartment. However, regarding James, Julia, and apartment number 81.........

I was assigned apartment number # 81. James is the owner. Julia is the host. This was one of three bookings. I could not get assigned another apartment. I stayed at The Emerald Hyde Park for 5 weeks and experienced severe infrastructure and management failures. The apartment relies on an electronic smart lock that depends entirely on the Wi-Fi. The first time the owner did not prepay his electricity, we had a 6-hour power outage, the Wi-Fi dropped, completely locking us out of the apartment for 24 hours. The host failed to provide any physical backup key or offline emergency code, leaving us stranded. Furthermore, the Goldair heat pump and its remote control were completely broken. Because this was a winter stay (dropping to 37°F/3°C at night), the second bedroom was freezing and essentially unusable for more than half of our stay. When we arrived late at night to a completely frozen apartment, the host didn't pre-heat the rooms. Instead, she later sent passive-aggressive messages complaining about our electricity usage, stating she normally pays less when she stays there. On top of this, the unit was unhygienic at check-in, requiring us to clean up old food crumbs left on the couch, floors, and patio deck. The host was also repeatedly unreachable; she ignored her phone on three separate occasions when estate security required her clearance to let our family members through the main gate, causing delays. Over the course of the stay, we endured 11 total hours of power outages which, at times, happened at 3AM disrupting my sleep with my CPAP and multiple Wi-Fi blackouts. Make sure you get a different apartment than number 81; this listing is poorly managed and unsatisfactory. I tried to get a partial refund from the owner through booking.com. The owner turned me down. He was presented with the same complaint above.

This is a lovely apartment and quite opulent actually at this price point and location, especially for a work trip - which is a bonus. Will definitely book again.

Although detailed instructions were sent through, if you don't arrive in a car its quite difficult to figure out. That being said it was easy enough to ask the security at the entrance and they were very helpful.

I loved the aesthetics

First night the sheets were not cleaned and the house was not clean, talked to the host who made sure she attended the issue promptly .

I made the booking for my parents, and they absolutely loved their stay. They described it as a true home away from home. The décor is modern and stylish, with clear attention paid to the finer details throughout the property. The accommodation is very comfortable, well-maintained, and conveniently accessible, making for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The area is safe, secure, and easily accessible, which added to their overall comfort and peace of mind. Also, Cheryl is an incredible host!!

One small suggestion would be to provide a few complimentary tea bags and coffee sachets. While guests can purchase their own refreshments, these basic beverages are often appreciated after a journey and would be a welcome addition to the overall guest experience.

We had our own food

There was a confusion on names of the people who booked. The owner sent a message on the app instead of sms with access code. When we went out to buy extra things that we needed the Security was very rude to us. We stood outside for an hour and it was cold. The owner's cellphone was off. We asked the security to give us his Bosses'snumber only then we could get access to the property. Nice property but can they improve the customer service in terms of access. It was hard to get in and once you are in it's like you must not go anywhere again. The security was very very rude.

Shortage of water which was gone for more than 24hours

Spacious apartment with a big great terrace and view. WIFI excellent. Check-In process was very smooth with great communication before and during the stay (Thank you Cheryl and team). Parking for car. The indoor swimming pool and gym were outstanding, as was the outdoor pool and Padel court (hire of racquets available). Apartment is very well situated in northern suburbs right near superb shopping mall with many restaurants. We are regular travelers to JHB, and we will re-book.

It was the perfect stay so there is nothing that I didn’t like

I believe I am due a full refund. The host apologized but that is not enough. We went through hell trying to find 54 6th Road Sandton using apple and google maps and Waze. Finally got close using Waze but had to ask directions. Imagine tired travelers in a strange place in heavy city traffic, aimlessly wandering to wrong places. When we finally got to the gate after dark, spent at least 20 minutes getting through the gate. When we finally arrived at the door of 81 had trouble with the key code. After several tries with the guards help it worked. On entering the place it literally smelled like a toilet. Soon found that someone some time ago forgot to flush. Flushed it and opened the windows. Fortunately sister in law arrived to take us to family dinner. On exiting saw ‘The Emerald’. Using that on return, Waze brought us right to the gate. Why were these key words missing? Simply using 54 6th Road was inadequate. This is good and free information for future users. Returned shortly after midnight using ‘The Emerald’. More delay at the gate with facial recognition problems blah blah blah. Finally got to the door of 81 but found the key code no longer worked. Now here we are after midnight with nearly dead phones and our passports locked inside. We cannot even go to a motel. I am not just tired but anxious and feeling sick. We went to the car and started it to warm up and charge a phone to seek help. After working with the host and the guard, finally gained access around 1:45 AM using a key. It was mentioned they would be replacing the keypad but no help to us. Fortunately the place had aired out. Unfortunately it’s cold in here and the heater in the main bedroom barely works. Using the remote I can turn it up to 30 but alas slow fan and just wisps of heat. Yes it is in heat mode. The heater in the other bedroom has been set to 31 but has only gone from 19 to 23 after running for over 90 minutes.

We’ve had a great stay at this apartment. The amenities were wonderful and the extra coffee pods and touches in the bathrooms made it feel like a hotel apartment experience. It was a bit rainy while we were there but there is an amazing balcony too. The host, Cheryl, was lovely to deal with. She was attentive, friendly and information provided was detailed and clear making check in and the stay throughout seamless. One of the best properties I’ve stayed in at this estate - highly recommended.

Excellent and secure location near shopping mall (with great restaurants, movies etc. Facilities very good, in particular the indoor swimming pool. Breakfast available in cafe in the fitness center. Apartment exceptionally well appointed, very clean and great view over northern suburbs. Parking was included. Effortless and very efficient check-in. We really appreciated the complimentary wine sent to our doorstep on arrival. Thanks James!

No towel rails in the bathrooms, not enough crockery. Power is on a pre-paid meter and when this ran out during our stay it was quite a process to get electricity back

The location is nice, nice neighborhood, secure and quiet place, besides the construction aside.

The apartment doesn’t have air conditioner in one room, the living room also does not have. The shower of the main room needs a maintenance. It’s impossible to take a shower there. There is no one to keep the apartment clean, they want to charge us R350 per day for cleaning (nonsense). The lady in charge only show up to give us the access at 8pm even when we booked for the earlier check in. They charge us R535, we paid cash R600 e she never bring back the change. Also, she promises to bring a fan to other room and never show up again. Honestly, for the price we pay, we are hopping for more. Me and my friends are very disappointed

The host went the extra mile to bring the keys as it was late check in. she drove past midnight to make sure I get in the room. she was super nice and made sure I know all information prior to checking in.

The cleanliness, I believe the cleaning could be better, the kitchen basin, door fridge, bedding and outside furniture needed a bit of attention. I take it that there hasn't been anyone in there for a while. I think it's coz I'm very pedantic when it comes to cleanliness.
