Reviewed Aug 29, 2026Purangi Waterfront Retreat is a beautiful and very spacious apartment on the second floor of a residential house, with two large bedrooms, two bathrooms and a wonderful living room with breathtaking views over the bay. The apartment is very cosy and tastefully furnished, with lots of lovely details and even a great selection of books to read. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to enjoy them. We stayed during winter, which was a bit of a shame, as I can imagine this place must be even more beautiful in summer. We would happily consider staying here again, especially in summer, as the apartment itself and the location are truly beautiful.
The apartment was quite cold during our winter stay, even with the heating on, and after turning it off overnight it became uncomfortably cold. We also found the welcome rather impersonal. The key handover was very brief, and apart from that we had no contact with the hosts during our stay, even though they lived nearby. This felt a little unusual compared with the many other places we stayed during our trip.

Reviewed Aug 17, 2026The accommodation was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable, — perfect for a relaxing stay. The view over the bay was beautiful, yet the place was incredibly peaceful and quiet. The location was also excellent, with Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach both nearby, making it a great base for exploring the area. We especially loved waking up to the sound of birds in the morning. The whole place was beautifully decorated with lovely little touches that showed the host’s great taste and attention to detail. Everything felt thoughtfully arranged and made our stay even more enjoyable. A beautiful, peaceful, and very comfortable place to stay — we would definitely recommend it!

Reviewed May 5, 2026Very peaceful spot and lovely river view. The appartment is really well set up. The beds really comfy. Having use of the kayaks is great as the river is a perfect place for a paddle. Very close to major attractions in the area. We would stay here again.
We were a bit suprised that there were no laundry facilities. The kitchenette has no stove, but there is an electric frypan and rice cooker.

Gute Ausgangslage für Hahei Beach, Cathedral Cove und Hot Water Beach. Sehr nette Gastgeber. Wir wären gerne länger geblieben!

Reviewed Mar 5, 2026Absolutely stunning property with beautiful views. The accommodation was very comfortable and felt luxurious, making it the perfect getaway. The host was very helpful and understanding of our circumstances, which we truly appreciated. The location is fantastic, close to lots of beautiful beaches and great spots to drive out and explore. We loved our stay and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Reviewed Dec 12, 2025So peaceful, comfy and with a beautiful river view - instead of going out for drinks we just enjoyed the balcony. There is no oven and stove but there are electric pans and pots provided so you can still cook simple meals which was enough for us ☺️ plenty of birds and even a couple of oystercatchers living just outside the balcony 🙂

Ein richtiger Herd/Backofen wäre schön gewesen. Nichtsdestotrotz konnten wir mit den vorhandenen Elektrogeräten alles zubereiten.

Reviewed Aug 29, 2025Fantastisch appartement, ruim opgezet, van alle gemakken voorzien. Erg luxe afgewerkt, hele fijne bedden en twee aparte slaapkamers met elk eigen badkamer. Fijn uitzicht direct op het water. Met de ferry is het heel goed te doen naar Whitianga, met de auto duurt dit ruim 30 minuten.
Enige wat ontbrak was een gasfornuis of kookplaat. Er zijn verder en heleboel apparaten in de keuken om van alles te maken, maar om een maaltijd te maken was een kookplaat handig geweest.

The property does get quite cold overnight, central heating didn't seem to work and only electric blankets in the master room

Reviewed Mar 10, 2025The location and views were absolutely stunning. We loved sitting on the balcony, watching the wildlife, and admiring the night sky. The apartment was stylish and well-equipped with everything we needed, including a great little BBQ. Plus, the beds were incredibly comfortable!
There were only 2 armchairs on the balcony, a 3rd /4th would have been perfect.
