The view
Me gustaría volver.
Rien! Même le trajet chaotique en pick up était cool !
Excellent stay at Jay's Guest House in Blue Mountain. Pick up in Kingston and drop off in Bull Bay. The Hike to Blue Mountain Peak was quite tuff but the goal was 100 % worth it. Jay's family and the staff including the guide and driver to the peak did excellent jobs to make our 2 nights stay at Jay's to a nonforgettable memory to put in our travel experience.
None
The place is awesome, they treated us like family, served us the best food we tried in Jamaica and showed us the real essence of the country. It was a bit complicated to get there but they helped us any time and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of our trip.
As you don't have much options when going for the sunrise hike to top of the Blue Mountain, this place is nice, up in the mountains with beautiful view, owners are very friendly. They provide all the services you need for your hike including pick ups. Dinner and breakfast were tasty, however 20 dollars per dinner is quite a lot.
However it is really very pricy and you only find out once you book the night here. With booking confirmation you will receive long message about additional fees for the transport, dinner etc. We already thought the price for the night was quite a lot but you will need transport to and from the trail, transport to and from the accommodation. The whole trip was around 120 dollars per person including all the fees for transport. The hike and view up there was amazing and I don't regret but it would be nice to know all the costs before you book the night with no cancelation option.
Sandra, the cook, and her awesome brownstew chicken!!! She was really nice and is a great cook!
As expected the accommodation is very basic (shared outhouse bathroom with cold water), but the main problem is that it's still 1.5h walking distance from the trailhead. Everyone tries to sell the guided tour, which is not necessary. Even if you choose to do it at night is very doable. The path is easy to follow, although it's a pretty steep walk!. Jay's mom was nice enough to provide someone to take us to the trail and back (although it ended up being $50 for both of us - 10 more than what she initially told us. Together with the cost of transportation from Mavis Bank (you definitely need it unless you have good good 4×4 car!!), and the taxes that weren't included it ends up being like 330 for one night.
The location was perfect for climbing Blue Mountain. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Great coffee and real Jamaican food. Interesting to be in a rural setting away from the tourist resorts.
Not much to do besides climbing the mountain.
Loved our stay with Jay's family. The location was great right in the mountains and the staff were the friendliest I have met in Jamaica. Cannot wait to go back again and stay there or Jay's II. The amazing food and hospitality were definitely the winners. Jay was super responsive and helped organise everything for us. Thank you thank you!!
It provides you the most comfortable room around the Blue Mountain region, with hot water and wonderful home cooking food. Ladies are very friendly and helpful. Feel like staying in a warm local home.
It's not cheap, especially for the transportation. But remember Blue Mountains region is still a wild and underdeveloped place. Either your body suffers or your wallet suffers. The bird guide was not professional and could only provide very limited information.
Amazing views over the mountains. A bit far from the beginning of the peak trail so adjust your departure time accordingly. Lamoy was super helpful, he got me the entrance ticket the day before the hike and the breakfast was delicious ! Excellent wifi too.
Big thanks to Jay's Guest House up in the Blue Mountains! They were extremely helpful with anything we needed, whether it be food, information, transportation, etc. Donette was very kind and welcoming and made us feel at home. Her food was also delicious and servings were generous. They arranged a driver to pick us up at 2am and drive us up to the trailhead through treacherous terrain to begin our hike, and he was patiently waiting to pick us up for breakfast upon return. They also offer authentic blue mountain coffee that they grow themselves, and for an additional fee you can tour the coffee farm. I recommend their guesthouse to any adventurous travelers who visit the island. Big thanks!
The Jackson family and everyone working at the guest house were really friendly and welcoming. It was such a treat to have lovely homecooked meals and Sandra took into account all our dietary needs. This is the perfect place to do the Blue Mountain Peak hike, which was stunning. The beds were super comfy!
It would have been good to have some more outside space to relax in that wasn't under cover.
The location is beautiful, you can disconnect and feel closer to nature. It is also perfect for a hike to the Blue Mountain Peak. The wooden hut is basic, but you have all that you need. Most importantly, Jay's family and the staff are very warm and welcoming people.
I think that if I haven't seen Jay's II Guesthouse my view will be different, but knowing that for few extra USD you have very good facilities left me feeling that Jay's I is very overpriced. I like the rustic feeling, had only cold showers for over a month now, so I was absolutely fine with the facilities, yet it was by far the most expensive of all my accommodations on Jamaica, but with the most basic facilities.
The views were exceptional. The rustic, country feel was everything.
I liked everything. Everyone should at least have this experience once.
The view was amazing but that’s not the best part. The family is really nice and will take care of you very well and are nice company!
Family run stay as close as it gets to the beginning of the trail
