Amazing place to stay in Bodh Gaya. So peaceful, comfortable and homely. The staff is so kind, thoughtful and welcoming. I do recommend staying at HouseTale. Thanks for everything.
The Host and the staff
Mosquitos
Really happy to find such a good hostel in my hometown, Gaya. It's close to the temple and the other shrines nearby, so getting around is easy. They had music sessions most evenings, and the whole vibe of the place was lively and friendly. Highly recommend it.
The host was polite and helpful. The dorm rooms were really well maintained location was silent and good. Great place to sleep at the night away from all the noise. The dorm rooms were neat, Lounge and canteen were good. The dorm rent includes Bed, pillow, bedsheets and a blanket. They rent you towels and other toiletries at a nominal fee so we don't have to worry about packing huge luggage.
Mosquitoes were bit of a problem in the night. Use of mosquito repellants were a must, woke up multiple times in the night due to the mosquitoes.
The cafe and the staff. The garden area is nice. The music session at night was peaceful.
Mosquitoes, lizards and an so-so washroom. The place is literally full of mosquitoes. Like a 1000 and i am not kidding. I got bit and couldn't sleep all night. The common area needs upkeep, it hasn't been dusted at all. I was the only person in the entire dorm. This was my second time at this property but it was a big big disappointment. I even texted the owner but he didn't respond. The staff couldn't really do much about the lizards but yes the mosquitoes sure can be handled better.

The owner is so kind and the room is so cute. If u appreciate a good vibe and u are going to Bodhgaya this is the spot to stay. The cafe makes amazing food and coffee. U can hang out and feel comfortable everywhere on the property
Il posto ha delle potenzialità, va sicuramente curato maggiormente
Bisogna migliorare la pulizia, le lenzuola avevano varie macchie. La tavoletta del WC si è staccata rivelando sporco atavico.
A wonderful and social hostel in the midst of paddy fields on the outskirts of Bodh Gaya. I came here a bit lost, and left with a lot more direction and some lovely memories. Lots of excellent fauna and flora to be seen from the ( admittedly somewhat dodgy) roof too.
No curtains on top bunks if you are fussed by that. Others mentioned the distance from Bodh Gaya being far but I found it a benefit (more peaceful). Also very easy to get an auto through the helpful and super chill owner.
The host is warm and friendly, always available to help in what you need.
It's a rainy season and the roads were not that good, although that was an added experience and beauty in itself.
すごく居心地のいいホステルでした!来ているゲストの方とも色々な会話が出来て楽しかったです☺️ お部屋周辺がとても清潔に保たれていて、出してくれたご飯も美味しかったです!また来ます!
A true home away from home, it was peaceful, comfortable, and welcoming. From the terrace you can glimpse the Mahabodhi Temple’s crown and the location is well-connected with easy access to tuk-tuks and autos. As a woman, I felt completely safe here, surrounded by kind and helpful people. The food, the vibe of the place, the area nearby is beautiful and peaceful.I had an amazing stay with warmth all around.
Great community peaceful and a lot of fun. Also had a good purified water filter and clothes washing machine
Nothing
The host Pankaj bhaiya really made it feel like home. Awesome place awesome people
Location
Cheating
Pankaj bhaiya was a great guy, his food was yummy, very homelike. He is the cook and caretaker here at HouseTale and in the absence of Armaan Ji, he made us feel at home, kept the place clean, prepared food at the last hour when we asked him to as our return ride got delayed. Armaan ji also gave us early checkin so kudos to that. Very serene environment, loved the energy of the place, calm, peaceful, away from worldy chaos.
Location is a little far, you woyldnt find totos from this spot to any location but the vice versa is pretty convenient. Food prices are a little high but for a food like that taste, it was worth it. Loved even simple dal chawal sabzi made by Pankaj ji.
Quiet location in between Gaya and Bodh Gaya. Clean, has all facilities and accessible enough to all places by scooter. Cheerful and welcoming folks, great vibe. Definitely coming back someday, would recommend to all travellers!
Environment was amazing 🤩
Ambiance was fabulous 🤩
Nice garden chill areas, dorm bedding clean, AC in one dorm 9am to 9pm, geyzer/shower good, standard toilet, exhaust fan, sprayer, sink, handsoap, good views upstairs. Another squat toilet around back, can add another shower easy, small shared kitchen, shoes off inside a pain sometimes, plenty of potential for growth. Parking for a car or two.
1.3 km from even basic food, another km to main market. Road dark, isolated at night, but seems safe. Tuk tuks, but must haggle for 20 rp ride.
I booked for 3 nights and ended up staying 6. Housetale is an oasis of tranquility amidst the craziness of India. A place to read, meditate, do yoga, contemplate and ofcourse connect to fellow travellers. The location is quite secluded giving it an intimate, retreat-like vibe. I had a great time, made new friends and hostel owner is so kind, involved and funny. He even organised a bbq for all the guests. Highly recommend staying here!
Good bathroom and running water. Cute decor and peaceful vibes.
AC: My booking includes AC under the list of features. I was told I actually booked a non-AC room even after I showed them the booking. To turn the AC on they charged me 500 rupees extra. If you look under the list of features, it appears that they just check everything. No, they do not have a fireplace, netflix, terrace, or AC included. Bedding: My bottom sheet and pillow case smelled ok but the duvet cover reeked of body odor. It very clearly had not been cleaned. It was completely unusable due to the smell. Checkout: They did not accept payment by credit card. So, I paid in cash. They said they did not have any change at all and would not give me any change back. They offered to give me a bunch of water bottles to make up the difference, but I didn't want to lug around liters of water all day. Forcing me to buy water is not the same thing as giving me change. Location: Very remote. This could be a good thing if you want meditative vibes, but I felt it was too remote. On the map, it looks fairly close to the center of Bodh Gaya, but it's in the middle of farmland. It is impossible to get a rickshaw without basically walking into Bodh Gaya (40 min walk). The person who worked there would not assist me with getting a ride. Also, there is no terrace or rooftop views at all, which would be one of the perks of staying in the countryside. There is only the enclosed ground-floor courtyard. This place advertises itself as a cute backpacker hostel. The decor was admittedly cute, but it is not worth it due to the cleanliness issues and overcharging.
Lovely place. Quiet and peaceful. Very well maintained. Very helpful and reliable staff. Everyone involved with the place, including the owner himself were extremely welcoming. Special shout out to the cook/househelp, Pankaj ji who made wonderful food catering to my vegan needs. He was the person i had the most day to day interaction with, and he did a consistency great job. I stayed in one of the private rooms and it was very well maintained. The entire hostel is aesthetically pleasing, and beautifully decorated - the lobby and the rooms boths. It's homely and it's possible to want to stay here for a long time and not want to leave.
Nothing much except that it might take some extra effort getting to the place but google maps got me there easily enough. The remoteness is what makes the place quiet and peaceful.
Every thing was perfect and clean. With lots of greenery. Staff behaviour was also very good. Must recommend place.
The only disadvantage is its location , from main road we have to travel alot. If you are lucky then you'll get tuk tuk rickshaw if not then walk . Yesterday from main road I started walking at 2:00 pm ( temprature ≈ 40°c ) with empty water bottle.
5 Stars – A Truly Wonderful Stay! I had a fantastic experience staying at the HouseTale in Bodhgaya. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and relaxing – just what I needed. Arman, the host, was exceptionally welcoming and made sure every aspect of my stay was comfortable. His warmth and hospitality truly made a difference. Rooms were clean, cozy, and felt just like home. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Bodhgaya as a solo or with friends... Looking forward to coming back again!✨
Arman is a kind, helpful host/owner. He created a hostel with a friendly atmosphere and great for hanging out and chatting with other travelers when you're not out sightseeing. The area is very quiet and I really enjoyed doing yoga on the roof around sunset or just after sunrise.
Facilities are basic in the dorm but standard for India and at that price range. Only real downside is that it's kind of far from the main temple and monasteries (but that's also why it's quiet), so you have to like walking or dealing with rickshaw drivers.
The owner prepares food from the staff absent. Also gives a shift in the room as per availability. Very cooperative n friendly , secure to stay for solo traveler
The property is a little interior from the main market
This property feels like a home. It is very comfortable with lots of areas to relax inside and out. It has a calm atmosphere just outside of the main town and has great views for sunrise and sunset on the roof top! You would be silly to visit BodhGaya and not stay here!! 100% recommend
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff was friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and all the amenities were well-maintained. The location was convenient and made it easy to get around. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant and hassle-free stay. Great experience
My stay was amazing! Armaan was very helpful and attentive, and Iffu was an excellent guide — we learned so much during the tour. The hostel is a bit far from the airport and train station, so be prepared for some traffic. Other than that, everything was perfect! I highly recommend it and would definitely stay here again!
I had a wonderful experience at HouseTale. The owner & staff were very friendly & welcoming. The rooms & beds were clean. Food & drinks were good & everything was priced fair. They have a nice indoor & outdoor area to hang out & socialize with other guests. I will recommend this place to fellow travelers who plan to go to Bodh Gaya. -Mark, USA
A beautiful property located close to mahabodhi temple yet very isolated and private. The staff is quite helpful, check in process is a breeze and they even have a kitchen. Very green surroundings around it.
Mosquitoes and the fact that its upper floors are still under construction.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I stayed in a private room which was a really good size with a large comfortable bed and private bathroom.
Breakfast was not great.
Friendly staff and nice cozy place
Is a good place for bad packers with low budget and the administrator is very friendly and helpful.
Me as one of the person who started the international hostel in delhi n than mountains of uttrakhand myself always believed a hostel should always be opened n runned by a traveller himself n this case I was happy as Armaan itself is we travelled traveller ..thank u u for hosting me
Mosquitos could be a issue x
Arman the owner treats all the guests as if they were friends or family. Arman and Pankaj are very kind and attentive to requests. Perfect for someone wants to be a bit away from the city.
A bit far from the center as I was staying for long
Quiet and nice. Very nice host and very clean
I met many faces from all over the world:) The common area is bussin :)
The whole vibe of the hostel was awesome. It is little away from the main area but is very peaceful. A must stay if you are travelling to Bodhgaya. Owner Armaan is also very chill.
Friendly place, the owner is always available and takes care of the guest.
Mosquitos at night
Staff very kind and helpful. The owner helped me to take a tuktuk in order to continue my travel journey. The place was also very clean and backpackers frindly.
The friendly atmosphere
The mosquitos, but they were dealt with
House Tale, This hostel exceeded all my expectations. The attention to detail in the cleanliness and the friendly atmosphere were truly remarkable. Armaan, the owner, went above and beyond to make me feel at ease.. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars, I would, as this was an exceptional and unforgettable experience
The vibe is incredibly relaxing, thanks to the serene location and the beautiful lotus pond right outside the gate. The barbecue with Arman and the other guests added a touch of magic to the evening, creating a truly unforgettable stay.
The place is amazing, very well maintained, and is located in the village away from the noisy town. The owner is super friendly and always available, willing to compromise and help! It felt like home and this family vibe here made me extend my stay :D Highly highly recommended!
A Hidden Gem in Bodhgaya - Unbeatable Experience! I had the pleasure of staying at House of tale during my visit to Bodhgaya, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations! Whether you're a solo traveler, a group of friends, or someone seeking a peaceful retreat, this hostel is the perfect place to stay.
The atmosphere at House of tale was warm, welcoming, and relaxed. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help, whether you need advice on things to do around Bodhgaya or just a recommendation for a good local restaurant. The hostel itself is beautifully decorated, with a perfect balance of modern comforts and traditional touches that reflect the local culture. The communal areas are perfect for meeting other travelers, exchanging stories, or just unwinding after a long day.
Beds were comfortable
Washroom was not attached to the dorm and have to go far out in the backyard which was also indian washroom and western washroom were mostly given to the guest who is from outside india Improvement: more western washroom for females Should not prefer mixed dorm as the room size is very small and in which kitchen is there so its whole mess as it feels stay is in passerby.
The atmosphere of the place, the owner Armaan who is dedicated to what He is doing, the travellers who stay there and cleanliness of the bedsheets..
A little messy in the kitchen..
Cleanliness, ease of check in and check out, overall ambience and stay comfort was very good.
Travelling to and fro was a bit challenging
Everything! There’s a good energy in this place. Armand really took great care of us and we had a little campfire every night. I will miss this place. See you soon Armand!
Nothing
A Good and kind host, peaceful location and hygienic. Traveling solo or with company this is the best place for you to stay.
During my recent solo trip to Bodh Gaya, I stayed at Hostales, and I found it to be an excellent accommodation choice. The hostel maintained a high standard of cleanliness and offered comfortable amenities, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. The staff were particularly helpful, providing valuable local tips and recommendations to enhance my stay. Hostales also featured common areas that encouraged interaction among travelers, allowing me to connect and make new friends. Its location, situated in a village area, is within walking distance of all major attractions, making it convenient for sightseeing. Overall, whether traveling solo or with friends, Hostales serves as a highly recommended option for a memorable and enjoyable experience in Bodh Gaya
Atmosphere
Clean and well maintained
It's a really cosy place where it's easy to meet people. The owner Armaan is very funny and accommodating. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at affordable prices on top of that!
It is a little out of the way of the center of Bodh Gaya but still a walkable distance of 2km. A Tuk Tuk ride would take you there in 10 min.
I can’t think of a better place to stay for solo travellers. All other guests were also solo, some from India, most from Europe and the US. Arman, the owner, is just like a friend but is attentive and professional at the same time. The outside, campfire, fairy lights, are all magical and you’re just secluded in mystical Bihar farmland. Nevertheless, the main Mahabohdi Temple is only a short walk away. My room was spacious, clean and comfy. This place is awesome and I could have stayed for weeks! Thanks everyone, and especially Arman and his team Chris
Zero
The stay is perfect serene get away to the place of enlightenment. The place is clean and hygienic. Just the place looks little small but has awesome aura and campfire. I would definetly recommend it
The cracking sound of bed. needs to be improved here.
This was my all time favorite hostel I’ve ever been to. It had more of a homestay vibe than a hostel. The owner, Arman, made us feel like part of his family from the moment we checked in. He was so kind and fun and just wonderful. The food was also great. And my friend and I did a sightseeing tour with Irfan and it was incredible. He took us on his motorbike and we had an amazing day seeing the sights of Bodhgaya. I loved loved loved this place. Amazing vibes, super social, 10/10. Highly recommend staying here! Would’ve stayed longer if we had the time.
There was only 1 western toilet (and 1 squatter toilet) for the whole dorm so sometimes had to wait to use the toilet if someone was in the shower etc. But this wasn’t nearly inconvenient enough to affect the quality of my stay.
It's the people that makes a place. And the host and visitors are amazing. Perfect for backpackers and couples. Amazing sunset and sunrise from the terrace Bonfire with music is an added advantage Beds are comfortable with blankets Has space for yoga and meditation. Spacious and well run.
Reminders to pay Would recommend tab system
Arman is very welcoming and amazing host and take care of things personally to give the best experience possible of town.
Nothing
Great budget-friendly accommodation! The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was incredibly polite, helpful, and cooperative. Highly recommended
The atmosphere of the hostel is very nice. Very nice and friendly staff. I think it was a great location and place with this price.
NA
It was peaceful. I went there over the weekend. To be honest , I didn't expected much but it was one of the best hostel experience for me.
Excellent vibes and people.
Nothing, but be aware it's a little out of town (a good thing, in my opinion)
I really like the location which happens to be far away from hustle bustle, it's really peaceful and calm. Also I really loved the ambience of the surrounding with cute garden having lots of green plants and space to walk around. The lobby/lounge space is really great which gives positive atmosphere with lots of books, musical instruments etc. The owner is really helpful, friendly and takes care of everything. He cooked for us, it was simple but it was really delicious. Lastly, the wall art is so beautiful with lots art, inspiration and motivations. Overall it was totally a peaceful location. I was totally lost in it's fantastic atmosphere. I highly recommend to all the travelers to stay in this beautiful Osara.
I liked everything but would like to suggest the owner to keep sufficient rental bikes or scooter for the guests and one more thing is that some staffs are much needed as the owner is taking care and maintaining each and everything alone. It's just a suggestion from my side. But overall the experience was mind blowing.
Amazing hostel with a very friendly welcoming vibe.
Great place, very peaceful and laid back! Kind and helpful owner with a good heart! Had a wonderful time and will come back soon! :)
Highly recommend stay, it is so peaceful place with good ambience, various activities, like minded travellers plus the host is very welcomeable
Connectivity but everyone was so helpful in hitchhiking
