Excellent, parking was very easy.
Very friendly and happy atmosphere.
Modern clean
All good
It was as Saturday night & was busy, which was good to see. We only met one member of staff, but she was very helpful & friendly.
I prefer a buffet style for breakfast.
Staff and area
Bed was to small and room to hot
Nothing
It’s trying to be something it’s not, no charm, fixtures and fittings in disrepair, lacking food awareness, poor facilities.
The location was within 5 minutes of the crematorium
Very expensive for one night, at breakfast, I asked for a cappuccino only to be told that the bar was closed!!!!
Location-wise, it was easy to find.
The noise from the traffic and also voices and other noises from the room next door.
Nothing
TV not working in all rooms as knocked on doors and asked. Room small and pokey. I asked about breakfast but it was only served at 9 and I had to set off at 8 and they still took the 12.99 even though I said no. One young girl doing everything bar, food serving and b and b and she didn't have a clue. Middle of nowhere. Wish I had driven extra 20 miles and stayed at premier in Lancaster
I was working so it was literally shower food and bed. It’s our second stay and will definitely rebook when we are working up there again
Nothing
Didn't have breakfast
Tv was inop
The breakfast?
What could have been better is the lack of cooperation on your part, Booking.com, to change the dates of our visit because we needed repairs to our vehicle. We gave you plenty of notice to do this, at least ten days and with the agreement of The Tavern, but there was a delaying tactic on your part to prevent us. We note that you have now charged us the total amount due - for nothing - no response to our request - delaying tactics on your part, in order to get our money - for nothing - no opportunity to change the booking - no stay at The Tavern - little communication. So you want feedback. The way that we were treated primarily by Booking.com has been horrible. So yes, we are sure the breakfast would have been lovely had we been there. Anyway, good luck with your rip off business - what a joke.
Recently renovated, the room was small but big enough and comfortable. It has a coffee pod machine and a kettle for tea or hot chocolate (all provided). The bathroom was superb(with a separate shower and a huge bath). The pub meals were amazing! Such a quaint establishment,
The only thing we didn’t like was the road noise but that did quieten down later in the evening
The staff were very approachable and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection to suit most palates. Nice bathroom with plenty toiletries. Good tea/coffee selection, with biscuits.
Bedroom was cold. No heating, no working television, no seating other than on the bed (large room which could accommodate 2 chairs ). Bedroom door rattled, sash window handle hanging on one screw. No apparent soundproofing as the guests in next room could be easily heard. Bedside lamps very dusty. Had to request another quilt as the one on the bed was of such poor quality the filling had clumped in places leaving other parts no thicker than a sheet. Decor tired.
Very heavy mirror leans against a wall no fixtures. Light from a ceiling at head height with exposed bare wiring Bathroom just gorgeous but a freestanding toilet roll holder instead of screwing around to get to a shelf to get toilet roll
Lack of attention given to the snags.
The hotel was lovely and in a beautiful countryside location. The room was comfortable, spacious and had everything we could have needed. Although they could do with a mirror in the main room - I couldn't find a place near a plug socket to do my hair. Breakfast was delicious and filled us up for the day!
Nice room, bathroom
No heating in the winter season
Nothing
The staff was extremely irresponsible. I paid the hotel charges in advance and informed the receptionist that I would be arriving late as I was traveling from London. Despite this, when I reached the hotel at 10:45 PM, no staff member was present. I repeatedly called the hotel, but no one answered my calls.
We had a very warm welcome, on arrival, at this lovely Country Inn. The location, not far off the M6, was just what we needed to break our journey, travelling from South West Germany to Perthshure in Scotland.. Can highly recommend!
Breakfast and dinner very good. Staff very pleasant.
Small room but adequate.

..
The location for us was good it was on the way to a walk we were doing the morning after.
On arrival the local power was out, so we had no electricity, hot water, the kitchen had closed and of course no internet. We had to go 20 minutes down the road in to the next village to get food and wait till morning to charge our devices and shower etc. Afterwards the hotel after several weeks of ignoring any communication offered 10% on a future booking which I explained was very unlikely to be used given i am 3,5 hours away. They offered no compensation for our stay on the night for all the inconveniences we had, as I expressed the power cut wasn’t their fault but it certainly wasn’t ours and the room should not be charged at full price. Very poor handling after the stay given the staff on the night said we would be sorted out afterwards.
We’ve stayed here before and love the cosy atmosphere and friendly staff.

Friendly, warm and welcoming.
Breakfast was only served 9am -10am. Would have liked it earlier. It was delicious though!
Friendly a very accomodating to request. Gluten free breakfast was great.
Need to remember the sat nav route used very narrow roads.
Food was really, lovely last host, was on my way to Scotland so used it as a midway stopover.
Man road location whizzing cars far too fast. I didn't have any kids with me but would of been concerned even though it was very safe. I mentioned to the manageress that they should contact the council to have a 20s plenty flashing sign like they do in Scotland. Just an idea. Best regards Jamie from Hastings
We were travelling with e bikes and staff were very helpful with regard to storage. Burgers for dinner were excellent.
We arrived from a rainy ride and being able to put the heating on would of been really helpful
Loved the room and very friendly team.
Great location Comfy bed Great bathroom great breakfast
The one lady that was doing everything by herself and the only person we saw was lovely.
We booked and paid for a superior King room and ended up with the smallest room a small uncomfortable double bed the bathroom was clean but literally a small cupboard size! Bed side hanging lamps were covered in thick dust and the room was very tired !!
Lovely staff in the bar. Easy to find and park. Lovely bar and dining area. Room good, lovely top bath and separate shower cubicle. Everything recently refurbished to a high standard. We had dinner in the dining area and it was lovely, very tasty and filling. Great breakfast with friendly staff. Very good value if included in the room rate. Yes there is road noise if your room is at the front, but the road quietens down at night so it didn't bother us.
We didn’t have breakfast but a meal the night before which was delicious. Lovely refurbished property, good decor, with comfortable and spacious rooms. Hale was half way on our journey so great location for us just off the motorway.
The road was a little noisy inn the morning. But it is in the middle of Hale so I guess it is to be expected. Breakfast was a bit early for us as we’d had a large meal the night before.
Our first stay here and pleasantly impressed by the modem interiors finished to a high standard in the rooms and bar area. We like quaint features and the bar was a very nice place to relax and drink in. The rooms were clean and fresh looking, modern shower and bath facilities. Beds were comfortable. The staff were very welcoming at breakfast and we enjoyed a full English that was most certainly adequate for the day ahead. Located to within a mile or two of the town where you can dine of an evening this is a great place to stay and enjoy. We would love to stay again and have every confidence in recommending.
Nothing at all
The room was beautiful and we loved the roll top bath. Nice touches such as the coffee maker. The accommodation was in a good location, we enjoyed walks, the motor museum, Lakeside aquarium, and the zoo. Also a steam train ride. Definitely recommend staying here.
Location and how clean and modern it is.
Noisy could not close window as its on main road l could not sleep for trafic noise. The room above us was banging and clattering till midnight. Restarant very busy only one person on bar and seving.we waited 35 mins for order to be taken then an another 40 mins for food. When it came there was items missing only to be told we dont have them..yet l was charged full price!
Great welcome from Chris behind the bar when we arrived. Dinner, which was very good, was served by a pleasant Hungarian lady and breakfast, also very nice, was served by the lovely Sandra who was very helpful. Lovely staff and a very nice room. We stayed at The Tavern last year on our way to Scotland and would be more than happy to stay there again
Lovely room, very spacious, had the Superior king room, bed comfy and clean. Very friendly staff, they were lovely and very accommodating, went above and beyond, made us feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. The food is tasty; bistro pub grub and there was plenty of it. Would definitely stay again if in the area, £99 B&B incl breakfast, absolutely value for money.
Needs a chair or two in the room, no where to sit, plenty of space for them. Nespresso machine part missing, couldnt use it, had instant, but only decaf coffee available.
Very good food both evening and breakfast
Breakfast time could have been a little more flexible for people with a long travelling day ahead
Breakfast superb. Good bar prices
The beds were very comfortable and the shower was huge!
The cleaning wasn’t great but it wasn’t too grim. The breakfast was pretty good although there was no menu and no cereal/pastries to help yourself to. We also only got one cup of coffee and weren’t offered a refill. The road noise could be a problem if you like to have a window open but didn’t bother us.
room clean and had everything I needed.
the fire escape stairs.
Great place, but there is nothing around. Only a few minutes drive to a small town though. The shower was great, bed was comfortable.
The road was a bit noisy at times
Location ; Lovely breakfast.
Traffic noise was more intrusive than we expected
The room was large.
No personal touches, no pictures, no mirror in the room, no chairs or stool. Breakfast was an experience.
Suzzi the manager was lovely and other staff. Accommodation was really goof.
Was concerned about the speed of the traffic which was not the fault of the accommodation. I said in Scotland they have 20 mph zones where families are.
The breakfast was nice enough, the sausage wasn't Cumberland though, service better on the first morning, had to ask for juice and received no toast the second morning.
The paint work is needing attention, deep cleaning also required as there's a build up of dirt in the corners of the bathroom, the real shocker was the duvet, who would dream of putting a duvet on the bed that the filling had fallen apart forming large clumps, couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the lumpy bed, that duvet needs binned. The owners need to address the front of the property, dead tree's and weeds in the planters doesn't give a good first impression or kerb value, they'd get more passing trade if it looked attractive, same with the beer garden at the back.
Vrouw geiiriteerd naar de keuken ‘the crazy man’!
Lovely quaint pub, brilliantly decorated, not too big, nice and cosy. Food was really nice, complimented the chef. Friendly helpful staff Room very clean, bed also comfortable Great value for money
Can't fault anything
Comfy bed
No alternative foods for allergies
Location was excellent to stay en route to the Lake District. Comfortable, clean room and en suite bathroom. Excellent dinner which was well presented.
Room 2 is a lovely big room with great potential but appeared to be midway through an upgrade. We'd willingly return - even pay slightly more - to find a mirror and chair in the bedroom and some pictures on the walls. The lovely modern bathroom just needs and an extractor fan and a hygeine bin. The Tavern is right on the A6 so a lot of traffic noise but we slept well in big comfy bed. We were greeted warmly by a member of staff in the bar, who also served us in the restaurant where the food was AMAZING!
Trafic noise!
Spacious room, newly refurbished shower room.
Right on the main road which is very busy and fast. If you were unlucky enough to get a room facing the road as we were then the traffic noise was deafening . You couldn’t leave the windows open and it was tough to sleep
The bathroom in our bedroom was exceptional but overall the inn is in need of a rethink in terms of running a business.
No staff available if there was an issue early morning. Fire exit open. Nobody there at checkout. Overall the staff were very nice when available but wouldn't stay here again. The decor ( carpet ) looks tired and in need of tlc.
The bathroom was finished to a very high standard but if you want a bath just realise you'll need 20-30 mins to fill it plus watch out for that pop up plug in the middle as your bum will catch it and open it on nultiple occasions while bathing
The room was pokey, staff made you feel like everything was a chore, food was very mediocre and I'm sure my fish was dodgy (had a smell). The room is SO loud as all the rooms are adjacent to a 60mph busy busy road. I quietens down at about 10pm but then you're awake at around 5am as you have to have the window open due to the heat. Good sized TV though I'll definitely not be staying again
The staff were warm and friendly. Room was basic but very clean and comfortable.
The coffee machine and the TV both a bit difficult to negotiate but not important!
Staff very accommodating. Nice room, comfy bed. Clean modern bathroom with nice shower. Nice breakfast
Significant road noise even with the window shut.
Sandra the housekeeper was brilliant. So organised, helpful and pleasant.
Room no. 2 was nice and clean, but overlooked a very busy road which was very noisy till late. Evening menu was a little bit disappointing. Nobody else came into the restaurant throughout the evening. They just visited the pub. Bar manager was nice.
The room (four) had been very nicely modernised. Would have benefited from a king size bed and a new quilt.
The breakfast was appalling. There was a problem with theirTea urn so the water in the pot of tea was lukewarm. Muesli was on the menu but had run out. As for the cooked breakfast, Overcooked tomato, hash brown and Black pudding. And practically raw bacon and sausage. If we had eaten that sausage we would have been ill. However the manager was called and we were refunded for the price of the breakfast. such a shame as the evening meal had been very good albeit with a different chef.
Good location for us, on site parking for motorbike
Could of had a better vegetarian option on the dinner menu
Bedroom very clean and comfortable. Breakfasts very good.
Some areas need redecorating.
I didn’t like the property at all , it is in need of some TLC
Grubby and broken furniture , sat on 4 broken chairs in restaurant / bar before finding an unbroken one.
Location was OK
TV in bedroom did not work The coffee machine still had used pods in it and there was no coffee pods for us At breakfast toast and jam/marmalade was served before the full English breakfast Veg at dinner was not fresh and just thrown on the plate, very poor meal didn't eat it
Staff were brilliant! Welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and very hard working. Food in the restaurant was very good with a varied and tasty menu. Good location for Kendal, Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside,, Levens Gall & Sizerg Castle
Nothing to dislike
comfortable and close to where I needed to be
Noisy
The staff were really helpful and polite. The room was very clean and had all the expected amenities. The menu is limited but the food is of really good quality and well presented. Beware though, the portions are huge! There is a good wine list too. The whole place is nicely decorated and has a lovely atmosphere.
It would have been nice to have a chair in the bedroom but it didn’t stop us enjoying our stopover.
The Tavern at Hale is a lovely home felt place & we have stayed here many times & felt the home from home feel. Bedrooms are cosy with some larger than others.
We regret to write this part of our review about our last experience of staying here during the bank holiday weekend. On arrival (around 7pm) a staff member showed us to our room which to her surprise had not been cleaned in time for our arrival. (This may not have been her fault). She apologised & asked if we could wait 15 mins whilst she herself cleaned & refreshed our room. (Normal check in was at 3pm). As we had an early start the next morning & were due to meet our family members as part of our bank holiday, we were kept awake for most of the night by lots of banging, loud movements & loud talking by people in the rooms above us, which were apparently staff members staying upstairs. The noise & loud thudding never seemed to calm down until the early hours which led to myself & my partner not being able to sleep & settle throughout the majority of the evening. Before we knew it our alarms were ringing & we were left to feel completely drained ahead of our big day as we were competing in a 10k run that morning. Due to severe lack of sleep my partner was too exhausted to even attempt the race which was one of the reasons for our visit. Into the evening we were joined by family & had an evening meal which wasn’t too bad. However we had a drink order that was incorrect, no wine glasses available & alternatively given small flute glasses that contained lip stick marks. Myself & my partner made a decision to drive back home at around 10:30pm after our family meal & cut short our stay (as we were booked in for 2 nights) to avoid such another negative experience, due to lack of sleep. Due to this we missed family time as we were so exhausted by the disturbances during the night of staff members. This place was a dream when Sam & Brooke were in total control!!! Wish they never left!
The Tavern is a beautiful old inn, full of rustic charm, but with a modern edge. The room was lovely, very comfortable bed, large shower and stunning stand alone bath. The only downside was the noise of the traffic on the A6 outside the window, but a pair of earplugs helped. We would book the Tavern again. The food was delicious, with lots of local foods on offer. The dinner portions are very good!
The noise from the A6 road. The TV didn't work, couldn't get any of the streaming services at all.
Niet schoon zeer eten niet lekker
Locatie aan een zeer drukke weg Kamer niet schoon Zeer matige keuken
Great breakfast-room 4 with lovely roll top bath-evening meals really good-exceptional staff
The cooked breakfasts could have been served from an earlier time-didnt affect us as we were walking with friends in and around Arnside
The property itself was pleasant other than the bathroom not really being secluded/private/the door having gaps. The staff kept us up from when the bar shut at 11.30am until 8am - partying then screaming / fighting
The worst night sleep I’ve ever had due to partying/fighting staff
The breakfast was well cooked and tasty. We also enjoyed an evening meal. The choice was a bit limited but what we chose was very good. The staff were very helpful and made us feel at home. The decor was light and airy both in the bar and in the bedroom.
The bedroom was comfortable and warm but a bit spartan. The only mirror was in the bathroom and being short it was difficult for me to see. The bathroom was also quite adequate but would be improved by a stand for the toilet rolls, rather than loose on the shelf. The shower would also benefit from a shelf and ideally a grab rail. These are small quibbles.
Lovely room , comfortable bed , great shower , easy check-in , nice to have separate access to rooms via external door , staff friendly, having the restaurant is a bonus too
Coffee machine couldn’t use , wasn’t sure how the cups were meant to fit under the flow of coffee and didn’t want to make a mess , maybe the information booklet needs refreshing slightly worn
Location
Prices of items, lack of food items ( 5 English breakfasts all came with different quantities of food items). Noise from staff playing music was horrendous
The room was comfortable and the two young women working in the restaurant were lovely, I couldn’t fault them. The location was good for exploring the area.
The room was not finished to a great standard, the shower tiles were mouldy and the glasses and cups provided needed washing before we could use them. We decided to eat our evening meal in the restaurant, as we had looked online at the menu which was huge and looked great. However once we’d sat at our table and ordered a drink, we were given the menu which was much smaller. The food was subpar and left us relieved we’d not booked breakfast. The above could’ve been overlooked if it weren’t for the experience we had once back in our room for the night. We were consistently disturbed by what I can only describe as screaming and shouting from the staff throughout the night after the pub had closed. At one point, around 11:30 at night, the young man who was the chef, and I presume the manager, came pounding up the stairs towards the guest rooms and shouted back down the stairs a load of expletives aimed at one of the women. The argument continued into the night in their room which was above ours. Furniture was being dragged around and at once point we heard a loud scream. We were genuinely not far off calling the police. We felt unsafe to go out and check if everything was okay. In the morning when checking out, another couple who had stayed asked if we’d heard all the shouting which had obviously disturbed all 4 rooms of guests on the single landing. The young man checked us out which meant we didn’t feel comfortable to raise any of our concerns as he was the person we believe was shouting most of the night. Honestly aside from being hugely disappointed, we were concerned for the young woman or women who we think were subject to the abusive language and behaviour. If we had seen either of them in the morning we would’ve asked if she was okay and if she needed help. Extremely upsetting and uncomfortable stay, I would not feel safe for any of my family or friends to stay here.
Rooms are great very comfortable
Road is noisy prefer back room or
Lovely staff, fantastic breakfast
Great location for what we needed. We stayed last year as well and feel it was just as good!
