Reviewed Jun 15, 2026This is a lovely little cottage, the beds are really comfortable and the bedlinen top quality. It is so relaxing to sit on the veranda and watch the sheep go by and the sun set. I will happily come back here in warmer months.
We stayed here in June and it was quite cold. There is a log burning stove in the kitchen, but it does not emit much heat at all. Not enough to heat even the kitchen. We had to wrap ourselves in blankets to keep warm. The floors are cement and very cold, and there are no rugs on the floor. Not even next to the bed. Also no plug points next to bed for cell phone.

Reviewed May 19, 2026Very nice place and quiet. Everything we needed. An axe to chop the wood provided would help a lot. Interesting little town with friendly people.
Was a bit cold at night as the wood stove in the kitchen did not provide enough heat to warm up the house.

Reviewed Jan 15, 2026Fabulous stay! Die Damhuis is well located in the beautiful town of Nieu Bethesda. We spent the afternoon exploring the town and then had a braai under the Karoo stars. Highly recommend this property - so nicely decorated, comfortable and cozy.

Reviewed Jul 19, 2025I had a great stay! The host was incredibly helpful, friendly, and very responsive throughout – which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. The interior of the place was lovely, clean, and had all the basic essentials I needed. The location was absolutely perfect – just a short walk straight into town, which made getting around super convenient. Highly recommend!
The only small thing I would mention is that the photos gave me the impression that the house had a direct view of the dam and church, which wasn’t the case. It didn’t take away from the overall experience, but just something to be aware of when booking.

Reviewed Jan 8, 2025The attention to detail and the layout of the unit was totally well thought out. Everything was exceptional quality from the cutlery to the sheets and towels. Ernest was an amazing host, we even popped over early to out some meat in the freezer, thank you. A beautiful outside braai area to make a fire and watch the stars was also a bonus.
The only negative was it was boiling and no aircon, but before i even asked Ernest said that is the next thing he is doing to the property.

The gas geyser - we battled to get optimum water temperature.

Reviewed Oct 1, 2024Everything was exceptional. The linen was crisp and warm the towels smelled amazing it was one of our best sleepovers and that in a small town of Nieu Betesda. The kitchen had everything you needed as well defnitely going back for a few days more.

Layout of the facility meant that when it was very cold, you could not sit in the entertainment area and still enjoy the outside. An issue of house planning.

Reviewed Sep 25, 2024Peaceful, well-equipped and close to the few quite impressive restaurants / fairly basic but well-stocked shop in Nieu Bethesda, this was a really nice surprise at the end of a long journey. Washing machine and Arga-style heater were bonus items that make it very tempting to return for a longer stay in the future :)
A few more two-pin mains outlets are the only minor thing we can think of.

Reviewed Jul 9, 2024A spacious unit with everything you might need. Luxury linen and towels and very comfortable beds. We loved the wooden fireplace/stove as it was freezing cold. The games were also a nice add-on. The best part was that it snowed during the night, which added to the excitement!
