It’s quirky decor
Bit of a sad vibe with restaurant all ripped out
The historic nature of the hotel.
Can't think of anything
Loooveeedddd the decor/vibe of the whole room/bathroom and hotel you can tell someone has put alot of thought into the rooms. It was perfect
Not many food options avail In town midweek
There was no breakfast, . which was the only disappointing complaint
No breakfast
Generous sized room, exceptionally comfortable bed, cosy heat pump and duvet for winter and a fab ensuite. Location quiet despite being on main road.
Toilet handle just needs adjusting. Not a biggie.
Our family had three rooms and we loved our stay. The decor is fun and felt like a real treat. Loved how each room had different personalities.
The extra big room was sadly a bit hard to heat (mind you, it was 1degree outside), so we were grateful for the electric blankets.
Beautifully appointed boutique hotel in the transit stop that is Featherston. Delightfully surprised how nice it was and great that you could also dine at Brac & Bow restaurant in the hotel, which had excellent food.
Being an older building could hear road noise (trucks braking) coming through the windows, and were also there on a windy night when there was a lot of banging and crashing outside.
Great refurbishment
Lighting to low to read a book. No milk but that was ok cos no fridge either. I've never stayed in a room with no fridge.
This was our third stay. So quiet, a great place to rest and recuperate.
The breakfast menu is no longer available
An old pub really well renovated.
This is a very well restored old coaching hotel with themed bedrooms and a great restaurant. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the hotel is within a very short drive of Greytown, Martinborough and wine trails. Bedrooms are furnished with interesting period furniture and decoration. Though our room faced the main road it was not noticeably noisy at night.
In our room there was no space to be able easily to set up a laptop and deal with emails. There is no option for breakfast in house.
Great restaurant Comfortable beds
Quaint and quirky accommodation. Amazing food at the restaurant onsite
Nothing - would definitely stay here again
not much
room was too small
The hotel was clean and welcoming and the staff were amazing
Nothing
Friendly staff, lovely decor and very clean rooms
Good location. 2nd room allocated was comfy & clean.
Couldn't access the hotel for 2pm confirmed check-in as no staff onsite until 3pm. Initially allocated a dusty room over the loud kitchen generator but was eventually moved to a quieter clean room. Duty manager appeared determined to ensure hotel guests did not feel welcome which was uncomfortable to experience & observe.
Beautiful inside. The bed linens are so nice, loved the decor throughout. The staff are super! So friendly and welcoming, also just really good at their jobs. Thank you!
The stairs are original, so they are pretty narrow. A bit difficult for us old people. But truthfully a minor detail. We’ll be back regardless of the scary stairs!
Charming renovation, spacious room and bathroom. Historic. Featherston is small, so easy to walk to all the book festival locations and cafes.
All was good.
The room was absolutely beautiful and the amenities were perfect.
Nothing
Had a light meal in restaurant, veery nice menu. The room was tastefully decorated .steampunk.
Nothing, we're very pleased with stay
Loved the decor of the hotel, so cool to see all the wee touches. Shout out to our lovely restaurant hostess, didn’t get her name but she was amazing as the power went out in the middle of dinner ,the restaurant had a kids birthday party going on and other dinners, she was so cool calm and collected, we soon had beautiful candles on the table which added to the over alll feel of the place , and the staff did as good as they could in the kitchen to get us something to eat,
Found the stair way a bit dark, Sadly featherston didn’t have much to offer with nothing really open, such a shame as it would have made our time there more exciting
This hotel is old and has a nice architecture. Very easy to find as it is just at the entrance of Featherston.
Maybe the room we stayed in could be a bit bigger?
Loved the decor. Great attention to detail.
It had a bad musty smell of an old pub when we walked in. The stairs could do with a deep clean.
beautiful rooms, clean and tidy, friendly and helpful staff
It was a shame that they were no longer offering breakfast
Loved the decor and the staff were very polite
N/A
Breakfast is no longer served which is a nuisance as the cafe options rate no more than a 3
Breakfast available at the hotel
Atmosfera fantastica
la colazione non si fa nella struttura.
Character filled hotel, great welcome on arrival, excellent dining
Nothing
Good old hotel
They wernt open on Waitangi Day
The rooms were so awesome such cool decor, the man who checked us in was amazing! So friendly and helpful nothing was a problem. Delivered an iron to our room. The best service I’ve experienced in a long time.
The Duty Manager at the time of our stay was lovely, friendly and obliging The rooms were lovely, not particularly big but ample for a couple of nights - shower was awesome Didn't dine
Would have been nice to have coffee & a bite at any time, but totally understand not being available 24/7 in these economic times
The room we had was amazing - really large and beautifully furnished. The food was outstanding and the staff awesome.
A beautiful hotel with lots of quirky charm and beautifully decorated rooms and bathrooms. Very comfy beds and lovely Victorian style baths with excellent shower. Also had very nice meal in the Brac and Bow restaurant and bar. Lovely staff and ambiance.
There was nothing we didn’t like.
Dinner and Drinks were great! Friendly Bar Staff. I'd recommend dining here.
The trains and the sirens were the only negative
High quality refurbishment, selection of gins available
Room was delightful and the meals just perfect
The room I stayed in was lovely, beautifully decorated.
For my liking the bed was a little hard.
The lady in the bar was great, as was the housekeeping lady. Restaurant food was good. Very ornate hotel decor lovely.
Room we had was very small with nonwhere to put anything. The interior lighting in the room was so dark. We had to pull back the drapes to make use of the street light shining in the window.
Sehr schönes altes Hotel, man fühlt sich in der Zeit zurück versetzt
Great character room, great food
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good food and parking. Interesting bedroom and general decor.
No lift so stairs to the first floor bedrooms.
A delightful hotel , one of the best we have stayed in during our 6 weeks so far in New Zealand
Nothing
Excellent character and decor, a real treat. Everything was very good quality. And some nice touches in our room such as chilled water in the fridge. It was like stepping back in time but with modern comfort. Beautifully done. We also really liked the excellent Brac and Bow restaurant and bar service that was conveniently part of the hotel. The staff did a great job.
We weren't affected during our stay, but I think the doors are not well insulated so you'd hear if other guests opened or closed a door (they do provide earplugs though).
Absolutely fabulous onsite restaurant!
A bit hard to find staff at off hours.
A real gem here; the aesthetics of the hotel's interior is splendid. Food, drinks and service were also exceptional, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to my next stay.
Beautifully furnished room with many extras including bath salts and bath robes. Delicious meals, excellent wine list and attentive service by the owner. Loved our stay. It’s worth staying for breakfast.
We like the character rooms. It’s a cut above the sterile characterless ess of other places.
Excellent facilities. So clean and very comfortable! Lovely restaurant and bar on site. Attention to detail spot on. Communication from the owners before we arrived very helpful.

We didn’t manage to get breakfast our time was to short
We were wonting to have a high tea but the restaurant didn’t open till 12pm.
Staff, food and room
I cant really think of anything
Warm and friendly. Great food, clean and would have no hesitation in staying again.
Nothing.
Loved the ambience of our room. The decor was on point. It was charming and spacious.
There was no indication of stairs, I am recovering from a knee replacement so the two flights of quite steep steps were a challenge. The towel size could have been a bit more generous. Lovely to have a coffee plunger but a bigger one would have been better. There was only one hot chocolate sachet and there were two of us. An extra bin also would been good.
Elegant
Needed a full length mirror lol
A truly lovely old building that has been beautifully refurbished and decorated. A real gem os a place.
Wunderschönes Zimmer, sehr sauber. Toller Service, sehr aufmerksames & hilfsbereites Team. Top Essen.
The staff were so welcoming, professional and ensured all we needed was there before we asked. The room was amazing. Decor was like walking into a Victorian country manor combined with a French chateau. clean and comfortable. Calue for money Loved the whole experience
Loved everything
From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed and our requests were easily accommodated. The staff were warm, friendly, and took the time to explain everything clearly. The hotel's charming, historic character was beautifully preserved, adding to the overall experience. They had warm, comfortable beds in the individually styled bedrooms, and all conveniences to make our stay comfortable. We wished we had more time to unwind at the bar and enjoy the restaurant; although we didn't get a chance to dine there due to time constraints, the menu appeared inviting and appetizing. We would recommend staying with them.
They provided 2x very soft pillows each, but I would have preferred 1x soft and 1x firm. The beds were comfortable, but quite soft, we had a lovely stay so very little to complain about.
Lovely old tastefully restored building with modern amenities. Easy access to local wineries and 60 mins from Wellington and ferry terminals
Nothing !
Man hat sich gefühlt, als wäre man in einer anderen Zeit von früher gelandet.
Das Restaurant unter dem Hotel hatte über Weihnachten/Silvester leider zu und in der Stadt gibt es nicht viele Alternativen.
We have always loved Brac and Bow (they even catered our wedding), so it was nice to spend our anniversary enjoying the hotel’s accommodation too! It certainly didn’t disappoint. The decor is moody and fun, and felt like a luxurious getaway. Food is superb, and staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Thanks so much!
Nil!
Restaurant closed, and all the staff gone. But it was ok, glad they were able to enjoy the holidays too.
Old world charm
Unfortunayely the bar and Restaraunt were closed due to the holidays
Beautiful building and comfortable room
John was really nice and allowed us self check in. We didn't see any other hotel staff except the housekeeper.
A little smaller than anticipated, Christmas tree was not really necessary as it took up already limited table/bench space. Instant coffee provided was not good.
Friendly staff, very welcoming. Amazing historic hotel.
Great location and ambience
A bit dusty in the room. Small room with too much furniture.
Everything
Hard to check in early
We booked a room here the night before a wedding. Such a nice romantic place to stay. The rooms are dark and moody which we loved and the styling of the room was steam punk quirky. The food down stairs was amazing and a great atmosphere. We were recommended to stay here and would happily stay again!
The rooms were a little dark so took some time to adjust to this. The bed was two singles pushed together.
The old world charm of the hotel and rooms. Dinner in the restaurant was really good too. Lady that worked there was very friendly and helpful!
Nothing to dislike. There was a little bit of traffic noise in the morning, but wasn't an issue. We had to leave early so missed breakfast in the dining room
I really liked the staff, the theme and the effort put into making sure we had a great stay. Very accomadating and exceptional resturaunt.
