Excellent hôtel de charme dans la petite ville de De Rust. Accueil très agréable par le personnel, on se sent très bien dans cet hôtel, je reviendrai rapidement.
Lovely old property. Rooms were comfortable and had everything you need. The hosts, Bernadette & Werner were excellent.
Nice stay in beautiful old Hotel , very frendly owners served a great breakfast in the morning.
Liked everything about Hotel de Rust. A must see and stay! Werner, Bernadette and Michael are fantastic hosts. Old world charm and very nostalgic. Food is excellent. This is truly a gem!
The owners / family made us very welcome and were honest in the fact that the hotel was still a time capsule of the past, with much more work to do.
We were welcomed with typical rural SA warmth! It was no hassle to check in. The bar/ dining room is where travelers get together and we chat- informal, sharing best experiences. Food is served onsite - which is super comfortable and both dinner and breakfast was delicious. It was a wonderful stay!
Beautiful part of thecountry
The hotel needs to be upgraded. Very shabby
Location along main road is good for a traveller. Dinner main course was good and breakfast adequate. Reception very welcoming and helpful.
Our room was unheated and there was a problem with water supply initially, though soon fixed. Very basic and somewhat cramped room.
Friendly, helpful hosts, providing personal touch to our needs.
A wonderful work in progress as it is finding new life and embracing the upgrades
There was nothing to dislike! Old and grandiose with a wonderful new nostalgia
What a little gem in the Karoo. Taking you back in time and make you realize to make the most of time. Lovely artwork, people and fabulous scenery.
It felt like stepping back in time into the charm of a family run hotel with all it's history
The great ambiance and friendly owners.
The staff were amazing, the owner and his family were very helpful and friendly
The location was the perfect spot for an overnight stay, although now I would like to spend a few more nights. Accommodation was made for our late arrival, and we were served a most delicious meal. Really enjoyed meeting the wonderful owners, Werner, Bernadett and Michael. We were also packed a breakfast meal as we needed an early departure. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the hotel too.
I did not see a hairdryer in the room, but it was far too early for me to ask for one
The quirkiest accommodation we have ever stayed at. Difficult to describe the old worldly charm. The hosts (Bernadette and Werner) were super friendly and welcoming. Lovely to hear the history of the hotel from them. Wishing them everything of the best with the alterations and plans especially with the recent floods which closed Meiringspoort having such an effect on the town.
Loved our stay there, room had everything we needed and breakfast was yummy. The hotel Owners were an amazing couple and we really enjoyed our time interacting with them and appreciated them suggesting places in De Rust we should visit.
No dislikes - was a fun hotel away from the norms.
Location good, food very good
No ensuite bathroom and parking bit of a schlepp. Really lovely hosts.
Good
We were a group of friends who bike packed through town, and the hosts were very accommodating and friendly, and even helped us plan out our routes for the following day. Facilities were better than expected, and a great atmosphere with other guests too. Will highly recommend.
Werner is a fantastic host. We could park our bike in his garage. The next day he came with us on his one bike and show us some great places, the waterfall and a very special cafe. Afterwards he came with us on a gravel road. Great guy!
Friendly owners and staff, good food and comfortable room.
Very friendly hosts. Very good food and the stay was enjoyable.
The lorries rushing by during the night
Sehr motorradfreundlich. Besitzer Pärchen super lieb und engagiert.
Old school charm.
By their own admission the hotel was still a woork in progress" but the character made up for lack of modern facilities. Exceptional collection of old movie posters and art mzke it worth the visit
Breakfast very nice, tasteful and staff very friendly
I was clean and unique and the owners are amazing!
The owners was fabulous they treated us with a personal treat for supper and breakfast. A Parcels as a snack was given to us with a very , very nice surprise Bernadette you are a star 100% best value for the money we spend
Leaving the hotel ,made friends forever.
Lovely accommodation and hosts! It was so neat and clean and it felt like taking a step back in time to the motel 70’s era! What an experience!
Nothing! Wish I stayed longer!
Das Inhaberpaar ist sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und professioneöl
It was old school charming with great atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the Bernadette and Wynand were amazing hosts. We wish them all the best for the ongoing work they are doing on the property and we can’t wait to come back to visit.
Nothing considering that they are working on upgrades/changes over time.
The hotel is something special ! with two wonderful, loving owners and delicious dinners.
The friendly atmosphere and the superb dinner cooked by the owners was amazing. The breakfast was really nice also. I will definitely stay here again. The hotel has a real old world charm.
Nothing bad.
A charming, well-preserved hotel that feels like stepping back in time. The interior is authentic and full of character. Werner was very helpful with ideas on what to see in the area and clearly cares about the town. Good food, clean rooms and I had a very pleasant stay.
It is vintage

The Owners/Hosts are amazing people and made our stay a wonderful experience. A beautiful historical set up taking us down memory lane.
All the beggars in town.
Old world charm
Bathrooms can be updated
Great character property, wonderful hosts, delicious food, fun bar.
The people, the look amd feel of the hotel... everything!
The Staff was great - assisted with a shower after the event
The Bathroom towels could be upgraded and the toilet handle broke - it seems its an old problem
The rustig feel of the hotel.
There was nothing not to like
What a great host, so welcoming. Dinner was superb, great place to stay in a wonderful area.
Nothing
Greate host.
Separate bath9
Friendly host, GREAT food, historical experience!
I liked the owner and his family very much. They were so warm, welcoming and with very interesting backgrounds.
Nothing
Something from yesterday year. A new favorite on the way to Knysna from Up North.
Nothing I did not like
Stylish, elegant, and boldly designed hotel in de rust, which offered us one of the most comfortable, memorable, and hospitable experiences in our travels across South Africa.
The hospitality of Werner and Bernadette was so great. Feels like home. This is a must stay over. Will definitely visit them again.
Bernadette and Werner are excellent hosts. Food was amazing!
Central place. Lovely hostess. Good shower. Great location. Safe and secure parking. Great staff.
Breakfast was okay. Could have offered omelettes.
Stylisch. Nice paintings.
Everything was wonderful
An excellent example of an early Mid-century property and decorated in period correct style.
Some upgrades in progress. Extremely promising.
The hosts were fantastic.
Breakfast was good. The owners of the hotel were friendly and extremely attentive. Hotel stood empty for many years and is being refurbished in the character of the original hotel. Very interesting and lots to look at.
Personally, there was nothing to dislike. The blue door handles were rather out of character.
Everything about the hotel is charming, taking you back in time with their excellent music and decor. Excellent food and owners take personal care of guests.
The hospitality was awesome, ostrich fillet we had the evening was fantastic and the service from Ethan at the bar top notch. Werner and Bernadette welcomed us with smiles and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Will definitely visit the Hotel again.
Nothing comes to mind.
Breakfast was exceptional, watched the eggs being collected directly from their own hens. Dinner was amazing with ostrich steaks done to your liking or to the chef’s recommendation (perfect). The bar area (not normally our “thing”) was greatly convivial and brought the guests together as the host, Werner entertained and amused us with tales about the Hotel’s beginnings. It’s still a “work in progress” as they lovingly restore the whole place. To us, it can only get better and better! Highly recommended!
We've never stayed in a cleaner place! It was immaculate and beautifully put together.
The welcome was a bit overly familiar. We opted for a hotel booking to avoid the guesthouse/b&b experience and were after something less personal than what we found. It was charming and clean and good, just not what we expected from a hotel booking.
An outstanding feature of our stay at Hotel De Rust was the friendliness of our hosts. Werner and Bernadette are amazing hosts and did everything (and more!) to make us feel welcome and to make sure we enjoy our stay at their hotel.
Nothing. It would be inappropriate to complain about anything.
Lovely owners, friendly bar, very good dinner
No heater in room in winter. No hair dryer, no glasses in room. Fairly new owners told us they have plans to renovate rooms.
Very warm welcome from Bernadette and Werner at the town hotel they have recently reopened , with plenty of personal service and attention. The meals were just what we needed- warm, nourishing local specialities. The village is very friendly- it was good chatting with the locals in the bar.
Nothing major
Our hosts Bernadette and Werner were very warm and welcoming. They are restoring the hotel lovingly and if you like Old World Chsrm and committed owners, this is the place fir you.
Wow!!! A wonderfully unforgettable stay. The hotel is as warm and wonderful as the hosts. It is a unique hotel experience that we will never forget but often recall fondly.
I was there on business for one night. The room was spotless and the water was super hot on a chilly night. The host was super responsive, even helped me with a new toothbrush as I had forgotten to pack one.
