Delightful stay at Mata e' Platano Guesthouse in Luquillo, Puerto Rico! 🌴🏠 My compact, cozy shipping container room was charming, and the property's immaculate condition made me feel like I had the tranquil retreat all to myself. Breakfast (6am-10am) covered the essentials, and I happily fueled up with their convenient morning coffee machine – iced coffee on demand, yes please! ☕️ Snacks and water were available all day, adding to the comfort. A perfect escape from city hustle, ideal for introverts seeking peace. Pro tip: Uber to the ferry ($4) for a fantastic day trip to Vieques or Culebra. The under-construction suite looks stunning – I’m excited to plan a romantic getaway here with my significant other soon! Highly recommend for a serene, efficient, and cozy stay. ⭐️🌟 #MataePlatano #LuquilloPuertoRico #CozyGetaway #ShippingContainerCharm
Nice rainforest scenery! Very cute
Place was clean and quiet
If you’re looking for a clean hip and quiet area, this is the place beautiful clean and it had tropical fruits that I ate when I was growing up, in Puerto Rico that was the plus, but you need to stay here to experience it
Loved this place! The grounds were so cute and it was so convinient that they had breakfast, bug spray and sunscreen available.
Practico y conveniente. Hermosas facilidades.
The property grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. I would add that the room itself is very small, especially if two guest stay in the same room. The bed is large enough to sleep two but the space in the room is limited to a small walk way along the bed, small area in front of the bed and patio. A rental car is recommended since walking along the highway is not really a good idea. There is small market and restaurant down the road.
I really enjoyed my time at this hotel in Luquillo. The place is beautiful and extremely clean — they do a great job keeping everything spotless. The room was small but very comfortable. The bed and pillows were cozy. The staff, although few, were very attentive and welcoming. There are just a couple of things that could be improved. It would be nice if they provided coffee in the rooms since they already include a coffee pot and cups. Also, the continental breakfast could use a bit of an upgrade — mostly boxed pastries and sugary cereals like Froot Loops. It would be great to have some fresh options like bagels, baked goods from a local bakery, or healthier choices like oatmeal. Overall, it was a very nice stay, and I would definitely come back!
The property was very aesthetically pleasing. There was a lit pool and hammocks outside. Additionally, there was a place where one could sit with friends or family and eat together. The rooms were cozy stacked train trailers (15’x12’est) which included a stand-up shower in the bathroom (4’x12’est). There’s air conditioning which did really well. We actually bought a blanket because we were cold. The only issue was that the air conditioning unit seemed to have mold above it on the wall and ceiling. There isn’t any ventilation unless you’re opening doors or windows with no screens. With it being right up against the rainforest, we found the bugs and lizards would quickly try to enter. It would be really nice if there was a built-in ventilation system that helped with the moisture that’s always in Puerto Rico and was present even more so due to the air conditioning unit. Other than that, it was an amazing location.
The property was modern and very accessible. Breakfast was included. Coffee machine was very good. Overall a great experience. We would love to come back!
Lugar limpio y accesible
100% recommend.
Super cute, perfect for a 1-2 night stay to explore El Yunque during the day, and head to Luquillo for a sunset stroll on the beach and dinner!
This is a very clean beauty place to stay. Gated entrance minutes away from everything yet in a quiet place.
Simple but comfortable, close to Yunque Forest and Luquillo Beaches. Secluded property with gated safe parking, beautiful garden and pool area. Good coffee for breakfast and self check in with good communication with management.
Great little room with wonderful a/c. We stayed for the night after hiking el yunkue all day and the bed was very comfortable. Small room but had everything we needed.
I recently stayed at Mata e Platano Guesthouse and overall had a pleasant and relaxing experience. The space is peaceful and surrounded by nature. I enjoyed the pool area, it's a lovely place to unwind. The pool technically stays open until 10pm, which is great, though I did notice it stops filtering around 4pm, so by the evening there were some bugs and leaves floating. The room was small but cozy, and I liked the simplicity of the space. They provide a first aid kit and mosquito repellent, which is a thoughtful touch, though both are stored in the breakfast room and since that room is locked after 10am, you can’t access them later in the day if you need them. They offer a light breakfast with sweet snacks, crackers, bread (though no butter), and usually one fruit. I’d recommend they update the listing to say “morning snacks” instead of “breakfast” to better reflect what’s provided. On our first morning, the breakfast room was still closed at 7am even though they stated it opened at 6am, we had to call for them to unlock it, which was inconvenient. Noise from the upstairs guests was a major drawback. You can hear every footstep, and it went on well past 1am, making it hard to sleep. Also, the bed sheets had stains, which made the room feel a little less cared for than expected. The hosts were always responsive when we called, and that gave us some peace of mind. Considering the downsides, I do feel the price is a bit high for what’s offered.
We had a great time , super private chic and innovative. Rooms are made out of containers. Will highly recommended
It was nice and quiet, the only thing I didn't like that it was damp and stuffy like moldy
Buena ubicación
Beautiful facility
Loved it perfect and easy check in and check out so peaceful have a car or prepare to uber everywhere
This guest house was absolutely magical
It’s a beautiful guesthouse and clean. I loved staying here it was amazing. The person that assisted me over the phone was very helpful and kind when checking in and also extending my stay.
We were so grateful that there was a generator so we had power! Location is very convenient both to shopping, beaches and close to San Juan. Luquillo has a cute Downtown with restaurants as well. The rooms are very small but was enough for the two of us. Buy cream or milk and breakfast items as they have coffee but only powdered creamer and not much for breakfast.
This property is very unique in its build. We were pleasanty surprised on how nice it was to stay in the converted cargo containers. Located 1/2 way between El Yunque National Forest and Fajardo to do the bioluminescence tour, it was very convenient. The property is very well kept. While there is no host on site, they were very responsive with texts on What's App. If you follow the provided pins, it is extremely easy to find.
Todo muy lindo y bueno trankilo
property was very quiet and peaceful lots of greenery you feel very relaxed in their amazing pool; room is just big enough for a couple, small quarters as it is made from shipping containers. but they maximized the space very well!
Very modern. Loved the “courtyard” area
Need more options for breakfast, like bagels, toaster oven, boiled eggs, fruits, etc... We stayed for 7 days and I expected more options for breakfast. There were fruit flies in the room every day. The a/c should not blow directly to the bed. It made sleeping very cold even when we raised the temperature. The room had a stale smell that would not go away.
Mejorar el desayuno con frutita, huevos, chocolate caliente, leche vegana ( no tomo café) y un tv en el cuarto
Very clean and unique!
We had a lovely stay at Mata e' Platano Guesthouse. The property was very quiet and peaceful. If you want to feel close to nature, this is the place for you. We fell asleep to the sound of the cocqui and woke up to roosters and birdsong. The facilities were clean and tidy. The room was a little humid and we saw a handful of mosquitos, but thats expected in the rainforest climate. The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful and accommodating whenever we had a request or concern. We didn't like that the shower in the bathroom didn't have a curtain. It also would have been nice if the patio doors had screens so we could get fresh air without letting bugs in. But overall, they did a lot to make a bunch of shipping containers into a comfortable and unique place to stay!
TINY space with no ventilation in room or bathroom other than windows with NO SCREENS. We found multiple mosquitoes and spiders on arrival because the balcony was left open slightly. When we closed the windows, it was so humid and uncomfortable. We had to have the A/C blasting to help with the humidity, but the bed was positioned right under it, so our HEADS had to deal with direct COLD AIR BLASTING.
Good overall just smaller than expected and transportation from 6pm on is bad.
The property is a unique experience within Luquillo. The property and amenities are excellent. Travelers be warned that if you are not renting a vehicle, you will face long wait times for Ubers as the property is not walkable into town. Otherwise, if you do have transportation, this property is a hidden gem and would recommend.
No TV but other then that spot on
The advertisement for this property is very deceiving. Did not realize it was an Airbnb. Very secluded with limited to no transportation. Remote area did not allow for reasonable phone reception. Very disappointed!
This property was cute and had exactly what we needed for the night. I love that we could hear the coquis from our room as we fell asleep and the pool at night was beautiful all lit up! Close enough to our favorite bakery Luquillo and easy check in! Would do it again!
BEWARE this is a self serve no comfort airbnb and not a guesthouse. I’ve slept more comfortably camping in the wilderness. Construction and amenities are not well made or planned (no screening whatsoever on the windows is an example). Pictures are misleading and definitely NOT worth the price
I stayed at this location for 4 days. It was super quiet so I enjoyed the sounds of the coqui every night. Im so exited that suites will be available soon since the rooms were too small for me. There were no big mirrors and overall too small for us.
The pictures of the property are somewhat deceiving. There is NO real breakfast here. There is coffee, some crackers, stale bread, some peanut butter. That’s it. Maybe some fruit. If you are still determined to stay here make sure to pack lightly because the rooms are tiny and cramped with all of the furnishings shown in the photos, photos which were clearly staged to make the rooms appear larger.
We loved it. Nice quiet and beautiful place to just relax. Minutes away from Restaurants, shops and beach.
Excellent
Everything was perfect.
Very nice and neat in a good quiet area.
Hubby and I stayed 2 nights in room #1. Room itself is very small. We are not large people and are very minimalist, but this room was beyond that. One small aisle to walk through, one person had to crawl into bed via the end bc the bed is rammed against the wall. There is only one window and it's the big patio doors at the end of the bed. No screen, so we could not sleep with windows open. Air conditioner worked great but it's right across from the bed on the wall and I woke up with a cold and sore throat due to it blowing on me all night. Bathroom: it's huge, which I don't care about bc I don't spend a lot of time in there. Half of the room is the open shower, which had no place to set shampoo bottles, etc. those are set on the sink vanity so you walk over there dripping wet and get the rest of the area around the vanity wet. The bathroom door is just a slatted wood door so if you like to hear all if your partners bathroom sounds, this room is for you. Now to the worst part of the room: the entrance door is frosted glass, letting the two blaring lights from the back hallway shine directly into the room it was bright as day in there all night! Eye masks were provided and we used them but I don't like to and not everyone does. We would have hung some towels over the door but there was no place to clip them. Room #1 also has a leaky pipe right over the door so we got water drips on our heads every time we stepped out. And it dropped on room floor when door was open.
Fun to see a freight container transformed into a sweet place to sleep!
Like the property. Safe and unique
What worked: SPACE: The shipping container housing was unique, snug in size and very clean. You have a balcony to hang out or dry items. AMBIANCE: The property is very quiet and peaceful. AMENITIES: There is A/C. You have a mini fridge and anything kitchen-related including a microwave is in the breakfast room. There is a pool that gets cleaned from time to time. It's cute at night, with the occasional bugs there. There are lounge chairs in the front of the property. GOAL: The idea of staying here is to unplug from the world, read a book, stay in the rainforest, listen to nature, dip in the pool and relax. The property is mainly quiet with just guests and of course no front desk, this is a self-check in property where they send you instructions on how to enter the property and your room. They should put on the instructions precise information for those taking a cab from SJU. *Be sure to tell the driver Mata e Platano GUESTHOUSE or else you will be dropped off in the neighborhood up the hill by 5 minutes because of Google Map. What didn't work: Mosquitoes will be in your room. This is the rainforest not the city, so just remember that. They do offer bug spray and candles in the breakfast room! Areas of improvement: It seemed like false advertising to have photos of yoga and massages on these websites. Unclear on how to book or if they actually offered these services. Include clear instructions for guests to tell drivers how to get to guesthouse from outside Luquillo.
Vieques Puerto Rico is BEAUTIFUL and I am so happy we stayed at El Blok. It was our first time visiting the island, so the advice and help the staff gave was very appreciated. Everyone on the island are laid back and ready to help as well. The location across from the beach is a short walk to Sun Bay Beach! Gorgeous! There's a restaurant conveniently placed at El Blok-the food was really good and other places nearby to eat. Across the street and in the area there are UTV rentals, making it easier to get around to explore the island. I had better cell service in Vieques vs. the mainland and there were no problems with WiFi at the hotel. Besides all the amenities the hotel is clean and smells so pretty. They have a beautiful set up in the room I stayed. We hope to return someday soon!
This property is so beautiful and quaint! It’s close to the El Yunque, and beautiful beaches. It is well maintained and clean. The robes are a great bonus! Instructions for check in and out were well explained and easy. It really is a beautiful place to stay at a great price, the rooms are smaller but have everything you need. We appreciated this as we were gone most of the day doing activities. The room information recommend a restaurant called Lolitas.. it was so good!! Our only suggestions would be more blankets in the room. The bed only included a flat sheet and a throw blanket. It was quite chilly at night. In addition, the bathrooms/unit needs an exhaust fan to help with the dampness. Over all 10/10, we cannot wait to come back!! Thank you!
We really enjoyed the experience. The one thing we think they can improve on is the “grab & go” breakfast. It really was pitiful. Luckily we’re seasoned travelers and went prepared with breakfast food.
Gracias
Loved it we would be back
I had an amazing time
I wish I would have read the reviews for this property more closely. The location--close to the Luquillo kioskos--is convenient with good restaurant options. The accommodations were clean, and we felt safe on the property. The staff was helpful and responsive. However, there were several things we experienced that will keep us from returning. First, upon arrival, we were greeted by mosquitos inside our room. Within minutes, we both had several bites. A bathroom window had been left open. There’s standing water in several places around the property which attracts mosquitos. As one of the reviews noted, the accommodation is a shipping container, and much smaller than we anticipated. Also, we had barely lukewarm to cold water for our entire stay. We didn’t report it because we assumed that was part and parcel of staying in a shipping container; but I now see from one of the reviews that someone else had that issue, and they were moved into a different room. I wish we’d said something, but if that is a known issue, they should check and make sure the water is hot before assigning a guest to it. About the daily continental breakfast: Be aware that what is offered is not the kind of continental breakfast you get in the States. Each morning there is coffee, bread, a toaster, butter and jelly. There are also individually packaged melba toasts, plus packaged powdered donuts, cookies, and other sugary snacks like you’d find at a convenience store. No juice, fruit, pastries, etc.
I was very happy with this stay, it was peaceful and relaxing. There isn't much in the way of amenities, that's not a criticism, it contributed to the restful quality of the place. There was an issue with the hot water the day we checked in but they got to work on it within minutes and got us in a different room without any hassle. The only real negatives I saw were with the tight parking and the entrance from the road itself. The gate opens very slow and people drive rather fast through that area, I was almost hit several times. Just somethingfor guests to be aware of.
This property is beautiful and well kept. My room was inviting and clean. Unfortunately, we were unable to stay due to the size of our room. If you're a minimalist and you're looking to unplug from television and the outside world, and ground yourself with nature. This is the place! The staff is really nice and make sure they send you all details prior to arriving.
.
Amazing place. Loved the design, pool, and everything was nice and clean.
Safe
This property has a good vibe, but there is no service on the property and the amenities are very low. The rooms are very small. The ability to store a piece of luggage is not available, with a room that is about 8 ft by 10 feet. There is room to hang only one bath towel, which is not enough with a pool and beaches nearby. Clearly everyone needs to dry beach and pool towels too. There is a very nice woman to call, and she really was responsive. But this is not a full service property, it is barely providing any service. It is a check in system by code on a gate, and getting service requires a call to someone to get help. I myself found this to be a disappointment.
These accommodations were so nice and modern! The grounds were beautiful, and we had everything we needed. The neighborhood was quiet, but there were restaurants and beaches within minutes. And how fun to stay in a shipping container! We would definitely stay again!
The host was awesome. The room doesn't have a Tv because it takes away from the essence of truly relaxation, but there's wifi. The room is neat & clean. Everything is just like the pictures shows. Your in the middle of the rainforest. We would visit again.
This was one of my favorite stays in Puerto Rico. I loved the how quiet the area was and all you could hear the coqui frogs at night. The property was well maintained and a lot to offer.
La propiedad esta bonita, pero cuando llegamos en la noche el estacionamiento no tenia luz y todo hasta el cuarto estaba sin luz. El desayuno no estaba mal pero fue muy limitado.
It exceeded our expectations in terms of design, comfort, responsiveness... They paid attention to every detail. The property is beautiful and we had an amazing rest.
Bathroom shower can be better as the outside floor was getting wet .
Stay was amazing, we really enjoyed an amazing stay and the environment was exactly how I expected! We really loved this place and we will comeback!!
Truly compassionate and caring hosts. A beautiful location to relax and spend some time away. 5 stars
Great choice for a weekend escape. Many excellent choices for great food and have a great time.
