The property was great and so was the staff. They upgraded our room at no cost and were very accommodating regarding food and everything. We took a short hike in the morning for sunrise and it was amazing!
Večeře i snídaně bohatá a velmi chutná.
Incredible place! Facilities were clean and in good condition. The staff went above and beyond, with a special thanks to Sujon. The highlight of our stay was the night safari and star watching tour. Our guide Zaher was knowledgeable and skilled, but above all enthousiastic and hospitable! We couldn’t have wished for a better night excursion and count this experience amongst the highlights of our trip!

Stayed in the Al Salam Desert Camp for one night, and even though it was low season (middle of August), was treated perfectly! Received a free upgrade to the Royal Tent, which had all the conditions for a confortable and unforgetable stay. The camp is located far away from the road, but not to far to make it unacessible by normal car. The staff was the nicest we have ever encountered, and the food (both dinner and breakfast) had prestine quality! A special thanks to Sujon and to our tour guide Zahar (we did the camel ride and the sunrise tour, which we totally recommend), which excedeed all expectations! In sum, a trully perfect stay, which we recommend to everyone wanting to have a memorable desert experience!

Soggiorno in tenda fantastico
Beautiful location, friendly welcoming staff. Our flight was delayed and we arrived in the early hours of the morning. The staff waited up to greet us and make sure we were comfortable, went above and beyond

Tutto perfetto, colazione e cena tradizionali abbondanti. Staff accogliente, soprattuto Sujon gentilissimo e super disponibile
Vielen Dank!
Excellent location; in the middle of desert and just as easy reach. You don't need a 4X4 to reach it, normal sedan car is OK but you need to just follow instructions on google maps, we didn't and stucked in the sand. When we saw the place we got excited and took the early detour road which is not good for sedan car. God thank the facility was close (7-8 minutes walking) and was able to reach reception for help and they towed the car. If we had followed the route described by the navigation, we would not have had any problems as that road was quite OK for sedan cars. Our reservation was half board and the meals are so good. They have many excursion options, 4X4 sunset safari was amazing. Very spacious tent with A/C, refrigerator and private bathroom. Strongly recommended.
Nothing. You are in the desert, do not ask so much :)
The welcome was very warm as soon as we arrived in the desert.
We got offered an upgrade. Tente was really clean and comfortable. Good place to get deconnected from the busy life. Chef was really nice.
Traditional Oman food would have been a big plus.
We were the only guests in the camp so they decided to surprise us a little and they gave us a room upgrade. They prepared a great dinner and breakfast and helped us during the whole stay. Big thanks to Sujon! Great employee.

The whole experience was unforgettable. You can drive to the camp with your own car because it's "at the beginning of the desert". When we arrived we arranged the excursion with the camels and the Sunset Dunebashing which was so great that we decided to do also the Sunrise Dunebashing - special thanks to Abdullah. The food for dinner and breakfast was very delicious. Would definetly recommend. :)
The staff (check-in/out + food) was very kind. The facilities were great, and the food was good! We were the only ones staying in the camp that night (it was the end of the season) so we’ve got upgraded! That was very much appreciated. Everything was absolutely amazing! The place is super beautiful!
The camp is excellent and easily accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, contributing to a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. The facilities are well-maintained, clean, and thoughtfully organized, providing a comfortable stay. I highly recommend this camp for anyone visiting Wahiba Sands. Be sure to take the desert excursion with Fayz—an outstanding tour guide and skilled off-road driver. Sincere thanks and best regards to the entire team.

Hotel Review: We had a wonderful stay at the hotel! The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. Everything was well organized, clean, and comfortable. A special thank you to Sujon who served us both dinner and breakfast with great care and kindness—it made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an enjoyable stay! Desert Sunrise Excursion Review: The sunrise excursion in the desert was an unforgettable experience! A huge thank you to Zaher, who was an amazing guide—professional, kind, and very knowledgeable. He made the entire trip special from start to finish. I highly recommend booking with Zaher if you want a magical and well-organized desert adventure!
My partner and I had an amazing time at the camp! The best part was our desert tour with Zaher. He was absolutely brilliant, taking us sandboarding, introducing us to local Bedouins and being generally great chat. The check in staff were great too giving us recommendations and making us feel welcome.
Very hospitable and helpful. You want to come back here

Royal tend, food, services, hospitality
Reachable with 2WD Very good food for breakfast and dinner.
Nothing
Nice quite place to relax from busy life 😉 …Ali is the best “Sand drifter” around 👍🏻
…hard to find something if you are aware that you are in the Desert
Beautiful property with excellent buffet dinner and breakfast. The experiences offered make the stay even more memorable. We did quad biking at sunset and dune bashing with Abdullah — both highly recommended!
Free upgrade as a family - really appreciated. Excellent AC, decent buffet.
Not as deep in the desert but you know that when you book.
it was an absolutely fantastic stay! we got upgraded to the Royal tent which was extremely spacious and well equipped. The location is excellent and you do not really even need a 4x4 to reach the accomodation! The dinner was delicious and there was tons of food! highly recommended!
Very nice Dessert Camp. We had a very pleasant stay. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and well equipped. Breakfast and Dinner were very good. Reachable with a normal 2WD car. Thank you very much for everything.
Everything perfect. Really charming and comfortable. We booked a 'normal' tent but they upgraded it for free
Nothing, actually
Amazing location and amazing experience
Nothing
Desert night tour was the Top
Enjoyed the location and the hospitality by the entire staff... The food was good and the cultural show was just amazing.....
The wifi connectivity could be improved as it didn't have a good coverage....
With 2 kids, this is as adventures as we could be in the desert. The tent fit us all in comfortably. The staff was friendly and the chef even cooked a dish for us that we liked. We did several activities also. All in all a good balance between desert and comfort.
An amazing experience! The staff was very very kind - especially the waiter, whose name I don't remember. They upgraded our accommodation for free and gave us a beautiful and comfortable king tent. Dinner and breakfast were very rich and abundant. I can only recommend this place to everyone!!
Great camp, easily accessible by regular car, 4x4 not necessary. Comfortable tent, friendly staff and excellent food.
The camp gave us an upgrade to our room on our arrival. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Best part of our stay was the visit to a Bedouin home followed by a sunset drive over the sand dunes. Zahir, our driver and guide was superb. Many thanks.
Stunning location, we were upgraded to a gorgeous tent with an outdoor shower in the huge bathroom, lovely food and a fantastic desert tour
The camp was the closest to the main road so we only needed to drive about 2km off road before we reached the camp. This was great because we did not have to leave our car at the nearby town and wait for transport. We were upgraded to the Royal tent when we booked for deluxe tent. Staff were friendly and food was good! The tent was big and comfortable :) We also signed up for Desert safari tour. Our guide, Mana, could speak good English, and he brought us around the desert for dune bashing, going to bedoiun houses and taught us about bedouin culture. My husband asked about camel milk and he immediately drove around the desert, asking the various bedoiuns if they could spare some camel milk for us to try. Amazing man, he was! Highly recommended to stay and go for the desert tour. We also signed up for the sunrise camel tour which was surprisingly fun! We placed our 3yo in a carrier and rode into the desert together.
Payment for activities to be made using card instead of cash would be good.
The location is not too deep into the desert, so there's no need to endure a long drive on bumpy roads. The dinner included roasted camel meat, which was exceptionally delicious. We tried quad biking with Niam as our guide and instructor, who was very professional and kind, and we witnessed an incredible sunset. The Sunrise Camel Tour was also fantastic, allowing us to behold a beautiful sunrise.
The hot water switch should be turned on approximately half an hour in advance. If there are many people taking showers, it is advisable to allow longer intervals between uses; otherwise, the water may not remain hot for subsequent users. The room we stayed in didn't have a closet, which made organizing our luggage a bit of a headache.
Fantastic value for money, food was very good and included local Omani dishes. Staff were great and attentive. You don’t need a 4x4 to get there - we had a two wheel drive which was fine
Nothing really for the money, no complaints
Our visit to Oman culminated in two overnight stays in the desert. We chose Al Salam camp for two reasons: -This camp is reachable with two-wheel drive car without any issue whatsoever. Don't drive fast on the unpaved road, that's all. No need to rent an expensive 4WD or arrange (perhaps) expensive pick-up. -The facilities. We wanted a desert camping experience but because we were travelling with a young child, we needed a certain level of amenities. And boy, we got those. We stayed in a double-tent and were greeted by a minibar (fridge for child food), an air conditioning unit which was absolutely indispensable, and a bathroom/shower attached to the tent. What we didn't expect was that the whole camp is very romantic. The entire area is lit up by cosy ambience lights in the evening. The shared area was large and suitable for gathering with fellow travellers. But what really impressed us was the food. An enormous buffet for both breakfast and dinner. We've stayed in quite a few hotels / restaurants during our two weeks in Oman, and this was easily the best food we've had. I also appreciate that all the desert activities (dune bashing, tours, etc.) come with well described and clearly fixed prices. No hassle to negotiate. You get exactly what you book. And our tour of the nearby dunes by 4WD car was absolutely breathtaking. So, if you're looking for a desert camping experience that gives you the charms of the sands but with the rough edges taken off, try Al Salam camp. Many people stay here as part of some tour and only end up being there for a night. We really enjoyed spending the extra night without a busy programme, to really wind down to the pace of nature.
Overall we were very happy and there is not much that the helpful staff could have done to make our experience better. I have some tips that may help you choose between the many camps nearby: If you're choosing a camp in this area, you can essentially choose luxury versus authenticity. The daytime temperatures and sun intensity are uncomfortably high, even in February. They say that in summer its 50 degrees. When switching off our AC, our tent warmed up to uncomfortable levels within minutes. So if you're in for the adventure, you may find this camp too luxurious (and perhaps expensive?). But I could not have coped with a one-year old under more authentic desert conditions. Secondly, the showers were open-air. I found this to be an amazing experience and I really enjoyed taking a shower in full Sun and under the stars. However, wasps visit the showers too because they get thirsty. If you don't want to shower with the wasps, take a shower in the early morning (before ~9am) or at night when they are not there.
We really loved our guide zaher, from the safari.
Location accessible by car
Food - not traditional Oman food but Bangladeshi food. In fact all workers are from Bangladesh. The prices for activities are exorbitant. Camel ride can cost you up to USD70.
A well organised camp. The tent is big, clean, comfortable and there's everything you need inside. Dinner was really delicious and the breakfast was good enough. You don't need a 4x4 to reach the camp. Dune bashing was great. Special thanks to Zahar. High quality with a fair price!
All the tents are so close to each other. It wasn't a problem for us. Because our neighbors were really respectfull. But it may be a problem if your neighbors are noisy! Wi-Fi was weak!
The tent was spacious and clean. Both, dinner and breakfast were delicious and nicely served (we really appreciated the variety of dishes)! The sunset dune bashing was great - we had a lot of time to enjoy magnificent views. The camp is well organized (coffee, tea and dates available in shared/ relaxing area; also we really enjoyed evenings with musicians with local instruments.
We experienced an issue with hot water. As it was observed late at night and we stayed only for one night, there was no time for fixing. Still, we were offered with an extra (refreshment) hour the next day. Also, just a heads up: It wasn't completely dark at night - the other camps are unfortunately using too much light which is disturbing a bit while admiring amazing Arabic night skies. Still, we managed to observe millions of stars :)
Many many things to note for Al Salam camp, all of which positive. The camp is situated a bit in the beginning of Wahiba Sands, yet we still asked for a transfer/pick-up. Instead of scamming us and taking our money, they told us that its only 1-2km of bad road and any car can do it, and so we did and saved us some OMR. Then we arrived and instantly got a room upgrade, no reason given, but we couldn't deny it and so we ended up having the luxury tent with all the facilities needed, which was amazing. Dinner and breakfast and the other refreshments available were also outstanding But what made this stay special are two people - Naim and Zaher. With Naim we did a sunset quad tour. He was very patient and helpful despite seeing how hard it was for us to drive in the sand :D He helped us get unstuck and showed us a very beautiful desert location for the sunset. Despite the tour being listed for 45minutes, I think in total we spent 90minutes with all the issues and we still paid the same price! Then the next morning it was a sunrise dune bashing tour with Zaher, a local Omani from Bidiyah. This was the cherry on top - as a local he explained a lot about the desert, the animals, the people, the live in there and everything. He made us coffee in the sand, campfire, got us a nice carpet to relax and watch the sunrise. Then we played arab songs, danced, dune bashed and everything. It was amazing. So Naim and Zaher thank you !!!
If you want to stay in the desert and you are not sure how to drive on the dunes, this resort is a great option - it is only 2 km from the paved road and you don’t go over the dunes. The resort is big, but we were there only few so it was great. They have family tents where 4 people can sleep in spacious beds and the dinner was delicious (you have to try the camel from the grill:)). The personnel is super nice and helpful. We really enjoyed the desert activities and we have to recommend the dune bashing in combination with sandboarding during the sunset. This was an unforgettable experience for all of us.
It was nice to be in the desert. food was good. facilites were limited but adiquate.
Moquites at night in the room. no bedside table so was very hard to charge your electronics or even to place your eyeglasses at night when you went to sleep. the doors don't close very well. limited food options. Sand was expected but still annoying.
I liked the foods very tasty, and i liked the arrangements and the events
Better WI FI
The dune bashing tour was amazing and the driver zaher was polite, funny and very nice
I had an extremely disappointing experience at this hotel. The staff were unwelcoming and seemed to prioritize money over customer satisfaction. For example, they wanted to charge us for every single use of the sand-board. Additionally, the golf cart service was shockingly rude and unaccommodating. When we requested a ride to our tent, they flat-out refused and claimed the service was only for luggage. However, we clearly saw him transporting other guests, which was both frustrating and unfair. There was a complete lack of basic courtesy and a willingness to assist . The absence of genuine hospitality made the stay unpleasant and stressful. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a welcoming and enjoyable experience. The breakfast was above average and very basic, the dinner was good.
The location of the camp is fantastic. It was absolutely magical in the night with a blanket of stars over your head. The staff is super helpful and always cater to your requests with a smiling face. The team arranged dental kit for us specially by going to the market and delivering in the night. Hats off!!. The food was also nice in the middle of the desert. Manager Iftar is a really nice person. Would definitely plan again.
My only issues was mosquitoes in the tent which was beyond management’s control.
Best thing was that I could drive there in my sedan. No need for a 4 wheel drive. There was a big sand dune just behind the property for climbing/ sliding and kids to play. Night desert star gazing was good and our guide Salim was very entertaining. Talking about desert life was enriching. The food was exceptional. Very friendly and enthusiastic staff at food counter. Camel meat barbecue was great, soft and juicy.
Limited WiFi could be a boon or a bane depending on how you take it.
The facility is spacious and well laid out with a variety of different accommodation options. Cars are parked near the reception and staff take al the luggage to the rooms so that there are no complications with cars driving around the facility
There was no hot water in our tent although our daughters in the tent next door did have some hot water so perhaps the hot water was just not working o=in our room. The door did not open fully as it caught on the sagging tent roof. The driver on our sand dune experience got the car stuck and took almost an hour to be pulled free.
Wonderful experience. I kindly suggest the Mama's guide tourist to visit the desert. Thanks a lot for everything. Ciao
Good location to reach with own car. Accomodation with private bathroom very clean and nice. Nice activities arranged with the camps. Staff is very friendly and we spent an amazing New Years Eve, camp totally raccomended!
Breakfast and dinner were good. The location can be easily reached by 4x4 or regular car. The tents are of good size.
The whole experience is not desert-like. It could as well been a hotel, as it is close to the road and not in the desert, but next to the desert. Then the question rises why one would secrifice comfort of a hotel and sleep in tents without the special environment or experience? The desert experience comes from the expensive tours and activities that you can book. But you could as well book them from a hotel. We have been a few times in desert camps, deeper in the desert, that was worth the travel and sleeping in tents. The complete setup is very commercial (selling tours), as you are not really in the desert and can’t even go to the one sand dune next to the camp, as it is all fenced up. The beds are rock hard. No small towels in the bathroom, many mosquitors and some spiders in the tent, dirty glass in the bathroom. I guess for timers in the desert it might seem very nice, but it completely lacks the experience of a desert. The village lights are visible from the camp site. This is how close it is to the village. They could have better just build a hotel at this location and offer tours. Would have made more sense.
I had the privilege of staying at this hotel in the heart of the dunes, and it was absolutely extraordinary. The mobile tents are incredible—spacious, comfortable, and perfectly designed to combine authenticity with luxury. The activities offered made my stay even more memorable. I went quad biking at sunset, and it was a magical experience. Naim, who was in charge of the quads, was exceptional. He was incredibly patient, took the time to explain everything thoroughly, and reassured me as I got familiar with the vehicle. Thanks to him, I was able to enjoy the adventure with full confidence. The following morning, I went on a camel ride at dawn. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of the young man who guided us, but he was amazing—so kind and professional. He took the time to lead us through the dunes and helped us fully appreciate the stunning beauty of the landscape in a serene and authentic atmosphere. This stay in the desert was one of the highlights of my trip. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and immersive experience in an exceptional setting.
The stay is very beautiful nestled between Sand dunes and is very accessible with a normal Sedan car. The staffs were very courteous and accommodating, available all the time whenever we needed any help. The food was equally very good, with a great variety of veg and non-veg options to try out. We did the desert night safari activity, the experience was surreal. We spent hours there with no light pollution, stargazing and had Arabic tea, while having wonderful conversation with the local Bedouin
Toiletries like Dental kit was not available and we felt the activities were at an expensive end as we wanted to try out many activities but had to step back and do just one because of the high prices (the activity prices are set by the Omani people and is not under the control of the camp)
Ok if you want to experience the dessert but still have good civilization comfort, this is your place. I was surprised by the good food (breakfast and dinner included in my experience) Also very good attention by EVERYONE, always willing to help you and solve your inquiries, we did the sunset safari with an amazing guide called Mana! Ask for him!! He knows the secret spot for the sunset!! And believe me the people here is great and beyond!! Also Naim was our guide for the quad bike ride and he is expert in the quad handling ! You must go with him!
The only thing I would improve is the mattresses and pillows, the sleep and recharge is very important specially for travelers who are on adventures every day. Although for some people it might be ok, for me it was too stiff.
The staff were very warm and helpful throughout. Special mention to Zaahir who took us on Sunrise dune bashing, what a sweet and warm guy. Overall a decent experience..would’ve been a little better if the property was in midst the Dunes.
great in every aspect. friendly stuff, comfortable tents and cute camems
The positioning in the desert was nice for reaching with a non 4x4 car. It’s nearly quiet there. I bit light pollution there so pictures aren’t great.
The prices for the stay and the tours where way too high. The staff is a bit too obstructive at the dinner and breakfast. The breakfast was also not that nice.
The unique experience was amazing. It is above expectation, especially when you see the other camps around. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was amazing and plenty of options included. The activities are great - highly recommend the quad bike sunset. For any transport, touring or safari options - Mana is a great driver and guide ✨
It is restricted for non included food - lunch and snacks, it’s ok but be prepared by taking your own snacks. Ensure you take cash for activities and the village tours.
We had a super great time and it was such a special experience to sleep in your camp. All the crew members were very kind and helpfull. Also the camp on itself was beautiful and clean! We want to give an extra compliment to the cook, because the traditional food was very good. By far the best we had on our holiday in Oman. A surplus for us was that we could reach the camp by a normal car (so not a 4x4). Further we did a lot of activities as a camel ride, a sunset quad tour and last but not least we tried the sand board. There, Mana surprised us by dunebashing with the 4x4. All the three activities were great and the whole crew has a special place in our heart! Thanks a lot, great experience and very nice place and very lovely people! ***** With kind regards, William & Marie from Belgium
Really cool camp with lovely social area with live music in the evening and great dinner.
Trips were extortionately overpriced. Especially the Bedouin trip. We paid £90 and spent over an hour of the two hour trip in the car. All we did at the Bedouin village was have a cup of coffee and asked to buy more things they’d made. We had a good time playing with the kids in the sand dunes but there were dunes closer to camp that wouldn’t cost £90 to play in!
Just book this one. Price was great, location was great, space was beautiful, plenty of good food options. Staff was awesome. Its not a resort, but its also not a tent on the side of the highway. Thats exactly what we wanted. Climb the huge sand hill and disappear. Last 2km of road are a bit soft sand but most competent drivers could make it. Just book it now.
If you need a ride to the resort from the road the price is too steep. Its 2km. The camel ride is great but a guy just walks the camel to where you’re going. I felt bad. Give the guide a camel to ride. Maybe theres a reason here but I felt so bad about it.
This place was stunning, much better than we expected. Easily reachable by car. We saw a magical sunset and the camp was beautifully lit at night. The dinner was very generous and delicious.
We had the most excellent stay in the desert camp. The location is great not too far from the road but you are in the middle of the desert. The tents were good with all the facilities that you needed. Staff were incredibly attentive very accommodating and we loved all the activities that we arranged, Sand boarding, Dune bashing , quad biking and desert campfire
Nothing
Great desert camp, lovely facilities and very nice staff.
We stayed only 1 night - Dinner was good, very generous platters of veg and non-veg dishes, plus fruits and dessert and very friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing as we were asked what we would like. The staff was very accomodating and provided us with our needs (We had our mum 81 yrs old) who needed assistance and staff were at her service.
We didnt have any problem during our stay, but had few suggestions 1. Bathroom/Toilet spacious but no Toileteries as provided my hotels (tooth paste/brush/napkins) 2. Lighting was inadequate 3. Needs railings or hookes to hang our towels or cloths when having a shaower 4, In the main tent - not enough plug/power points to connect gadgets (mobile phones, lap tops etc.) for charging 5. Need a bedside table to place our books, glasses, mobiles at night 6. No bedside lamp for reading
Well organised - chef and food was amazing - really well done
Was very quiet time not many guests
The silence and peace you get at night time in the middle of the desert and a functioning and stable shower/amenities.
Unfortunately a lot: the place is not accessible via 2 wheel drive cars as the host instructed. Our car got stuck and had to be rescued, to which the staff who helped us said this was the second time today. When we checked in, the receptionist told my partner she needs to relax when we were asked about the experience of getting there. It might be a language barrier but it still wasn’t nice. We stayed in the standard room, while nice from the outside, had a strange interior which tried to infuse a majlis into the walls - it felt a bit makeshift. There was also a spider in our room which didn’t make for a warm welcome. The bed was rock hard and pretty uncomfortable. And the food felt very random and a bit greasy, lacking a focus or authenticity to Oman.
Great location this camp is fully in the desert no visible roads to give the full experience, but easy to access . We had two en-suite tents and it was spacious and comfortable giving us a really great experience . Staff were excellent very attentive, the activities were well organised we had a fabulous time and highly recommend this camp
marvelous desert safari with Said
everything was ok
Good location, very friendly staff, good value for money.
Beds could be more comfortable. Breakfast needs a bit more variety, but else is fine
Staff super kind, tent amazing, comfortable, the dinner was amazing, the excursions and the experience really beautiful. We did the qaud in the desert at the sunset really funny and the night safari with a jeep. We stuck in the desert but our guide Mana was so nice and kind and he didn’t worry us. The magical night most beautiful in my life. THE SHOWER UNDER THE STARs. WOW
My tent hadn’t a light close to the bed, no breakfast gluten free but they cooked me immediatly something, i really appreciate it.
We were in the tente and we ate dinner for two with candles it was nice.
