The food
The location was perfect The food really good The nature, the best The staff, best of the bests
One the coolest properties in ktm which connects nature
The food tasted good and was quite nice, even though the portions were small for the price. Additionally, a few of the staff members were really great - the porter and our server were incredibly nice and helpful.
We stayed here for 2 nights, and it was one of our worst hotel experiences considering it claims to be a 5-star property. In reality, it feels like a 2 or 3-star hotel at most. The only thing "5-star" about this place was the luxury tax they charged us. From day one, our room was incredibly outdated. The bathroom toilet seat was old and broken, the flush didn't work properly, and the AC was broken. Despite being called a "Forest Resort," you can't actually stroll around or explore - the entire layout feels strictly designed for golfers, leaving regular guests with nowhere to go. They also claim to be family-friendly, but there was absolutely nothing for kids to play with. The dedicated play area was a joke, consisting of nothing but rusty steel frames. The swimming pool situation was a joke. It felt like a public pool rather than a private amenity for hotel guests. To make matters worse, staff members questioned us and tried to charge us every single time we went to use it. Overall, this place is not recommended. From no angle is this a 5-star resort. Finally, having stayed at numerous actual 5-star hotels, we can confidently say this place does not meet the standard. It is nowhere near a 5-star experience, despite the 5-star price tag.
The room size and bathrooms are great! The tub, shower , and amenities were special and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept. The breakfast is good. The location is good for a retreat from the big city, while still being technically part of the city.
The dinner buffet is very expensive for food no one among the 6 of us liked. (However, the breakfast buffet is great!) For dinner, it's better to go to the Thai/Chinese restaurant on site...very delicious! Also, the aircon worked, but the controller was broken and only sometimes worked. The bed felt a bit worn, but it was clean.
The scenic views of the property , the nature of the staff was very good , swimming pool was temperature controlled.
The room that i got was decades old and not value for money , the room needs renovation, the bathroom doesn't had health faucet which caused a huge blunder because i am from india and we are not used to the toilet paper . Health faucets are must to meet all type of guest's requirements.
Kind and attentive staff, lovely restaurant options and good variety at breakfast. We were there for a wedding and it was a beautiful venue. We booked on to their longest full heritage 4 hour walk option on one of the days. It turned out to be 5.5 hours but I think because it was tailored to just us and we stopped for masala tea - our guide Deepak was great, informative and friendly and took lots of lovely photos of us which we appreciated. The room (cottage room) was large and clean. The spa was lovely - we had a couples massage (extra cost) which was really good and well priced, the steam room, sauna and pool was great (again extra charge), or you can use just the pool without an additional charge. It was great to see deer and monkeys in and around the resort!
The bathroom was really in need of some renovation and I would say more of a 2 star bathroom in terms of the look of it (old toilet, cracks in tiling, worse for wear bath tub with shower curtain). The shower itself (over the bathtub) was lovely and powerful though, so not a problem.
Breakfast was Great, Golf Course was Excellent
Ontbijtbuffet was erg goed heerlijk uitgebreid. Omgeving is mooi.
Bodymassage was erg goed.
It was lovely and quiet
You couldn’t really walk around the grounds without a guide due to the risk of monkeys
Fantastic place to rest from the hustle and bustle. Not too far from the city centre but perfect location to relax and take in the surroundings and the noise of nature.
Preserved and calm
All good
Nothing. The pictures do not show real situation. I was only there for deer watching, but even this was not open.
It was dirty, super old, trashy hotel. Zero service. There was a wedding at the same day, they were blowing up fireworks near my window. I called the reception and said I am leaving. They asked me to atay and promised to send me fruit basket which I never received. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed. Definitely not even three stars. I added a picture from dining area. (breakfast was horrible too)
Beautiful property , peaceful , and amazing people and service
nothing
A haven from the chaos and noise of Kathmandu! Beautiful grounds, fantastic luxurious rooms and tranquility. Great value for money. Special mention to all the kind staff, but especially Anup in the restaurant. What a legend!!
In spa a man entered my room. They took no action.
Dated proeprty in a beautiful location. Food could be so much better as well. The property really needs an upgrade but the sprawling golf course that surround it, made it a good stay even though we were not golfers ! Nature walks in the morning was a good way to see the green patch around. Breakfast is good if you're looking for an Indian breakfast.
Dated.
Upon arrival at the hotel, I was initially offered a room that bore no resemblance to what I had booked, which left me rather disappointed. However, within minutes, Mr. Rupesh personally approached me, offered a cup of coffee, and reassured me by saying, “Don’t worry, I will resolve this for you.” True to his word, less than ten minutes later he arranged an exceptional room, and I could not have been happier with the outcome. At my request, he also organized a private guide for a visit to the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites—an absolute must for any visitor. The guide spoke fluent English and demonstrated remarkable knowledge of all four sites we explored. Our conversations extended far beyond the tours, covering Nepal’s history, economy, elections, and politics, making the experience both enriching and memorable. As a solo female traveler, I felt this was truly a must-try experience. Throughout my stay, the entire staff were consistently warm, professional, and attentive, making me feel safe, respected, and genuinely well cared for. Special mention goes to Anup and Rajendra Karki from the MT Bar, who were absolute stars. From recommending outstanding Nepali and international delicacies to engaging in heartfelt conversations about life, work, and family, they truly made me feel at home. I stayed at Gokarna Forest Resort for six nights, and every moment was a pleasure. The Harmony Spa is exceptional and not to be missed. While I have experienced many massage treatments before, the Himalayan Stone Therapy stood out as particularly rejuvenating and deeply relaxing. Overall, I spent the most peaceful and restorative New Year holiday at this hotel, surrounded by nature and supported by an outstanding team. It was exactly the escape I had hoped for on my trip to Nepal.
Great location, peaceful.
Great property to relax in after a trek! Good food, staff were lovely and I enjoyed the serenity considering it is in Kathmandu.
A little tired in places - could do with a bit of a spruce up such as a lick of paint on all the walls, new carpets in the common areas (stairs) etc. Seemed to be a lot of staff but not a lot of guests (although the staff were lovely).
The grounds and the golf course were beautiful with a forest. We loved the deer and the monkeys. The hotel was very clean and our room was spacious and quiet. The staff were exceptional, especially Sudarshan Golarna, Madhav Prasad Shrestha and Shanti the housekeeper. We loved the pool, gym and spa. We both got deep tissue massages and the massage therapists were excellent.
Every time we wanted to leave the resort security questioned us. They had to call the front desk to make sure it was ok. We like to discover the nearby areas when we travel and not just stay on the resort grounds. The restaurant was very expensive compared to other places we ate at in Kathmandu. The location is beautiful but it is a good 45 minute drive through heavy traffic to get to Thamel.
F&B is the best part of this hotel. The restaurant is fantastic - service, food, drinks, environment, everything. Great breakfast, nice selection of local and international options on the menu for lunch & dinner, servers who are friendly and helpful yet not intrusive. Even the welcome drink was noteworthy. The room we had was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom and we often saw spotted deer through the window.
From the moment we arrived, we missed the level of hospitality found elsewhere in Nepal. It was raining when our taxi pulled up and the security guard refused to let us under the awning, insisting that the vehicle behind ours be given that spot. No one assisted us with luggage as we unloaded into the rain and walked into the lobby drenched. Reception staff was initially surly although warmed up quickly. By then, the first impression had been set and I did not feel welcome. The swimming pool & spa are in a stand-alone building and while we saw staff walking the grounds with resort-branded umbrellas, none were available for guests. Our rate included use of the swimming pool & gym but not the steam room, sauna, or jacuzzi so we had to pay extra for these. Our rate included a guided nature walk but no one mentioned this and in the rain, it wasn't appealing. The cost for this walk is the same as for use of the steam/sauna/jacuzzi so they could have switched the inclusion. The women's steam/sauna/jacuzzi area is odd. The door to the lobby is propped open and staff routinely walk through. The men's door stays closed. I saw a staff member spit into the shower repeatedly before throwing the contents of her cup on the floor (a shower I had previously been frog-marched into by staff while asking a question, a shower I had to fix before I could use it). Another was cleaning dishes in the bathroom sink for half an hour. There was more but let's just say the situation was bizarre. We laughed through it all but if you want a pleasant spa or spa-like experience, Gokarna is not the place. There is no elevator (or if there is, we could not find it). Not a problem for us but something to be aware of. WiFi is poor and there are not enough electrical outlets in the room. We had a good time and made the most of the experience (the restaurant staff are truly wonderful) but I would not stay here again.
Very helpful with our dilemma over delayed Indian visa. Good food. Nice forested property in the midst of chaotic Kathmandu.
One of the best meals we had in Kathmandu was here.
Nothing.
We were visiting for the jazzmandu festival which was wonderful. The room, breakfast and swimming pool were great. We enjoyed our 1 hour morning guided walk. Everything was perfect and staff were friendly and helpful.
It is a beautiful location, beautiful and lush, with wildlife (monkeys and deer) out and about. Their Indian food was one of the best I have had. Compliments to the chef! The restaurant staff and services were amazing. Very attentive waiters. Their temperature controlled pool was also quite nice.
There are some things I did not like. First, the hotel has an internal information leak within their database which I informed the staff about but they did not take it seriously or choose to investigate - but a warning to anyone who books! As soon as I booked a room here, within a few hours I received several spam messages on my private number from Gokarna asking me to verify my credit card information. Even after I checked out I continued to receive them. So you may face this issue if you book it online. Second, another criticism I have is that, in the nature walk they do not allow professional cameras. However this information was not given to us in advance in a clear way or with good reason. They just suddenly took our cameras before the walk. Third, the staff did not volunteer information. It was often us who had to ask questions to receive information from them. For example, when checking into the spa area, we were not told in advance that there was an extra charge for using the jacuzzi and steam rooms. It was just when we sat in the jacuzzi that a staff member came in and told us we were not allowed to be there and to leave. When we asked for more information they then explained there was a 2500 charge. It would have been nice if we were informed in advance, and then we could have paid and planned our spa afternoon accordingly. Similarly, upon checking in we did not receive any information about breakfast timings. Which is usually a very common thing that hotels inform you about when checking in. So overall it is a nice place but there is still room for improvement.
Location, Food and the staff
Rooms are rundown AC leaks, no proper hot water and no lift to the 3rd floor. The internet connection is slow and temperamental.
The location, room, and friendliness of staff. And the deer and monkeys were a bonus. It did feel very special and we were made to feel so welcome throughout our stay.
Alcoholic drinks were a little expensive.
I thank all staff of the resort for their kindness and support will all help that we need it. I really enjoyed the stay.
The whole place is spacious and staff are so friendly and helpful. There are lots of places for you to enjoy some quiet time and the gym and spa open time is long enough for anyone who has to deal with jet lag
Nothing
Gokarna Forest Resort is simply a beautiful luxury hotel where any of the staff: concierge, porters, housekeepers, spa and restaurant where you can have a lot of delicious food is unbelievably well trained. I have stayed here few days already 2 weeks ago and that's why I have decided to come back 8 more days to enjoy the golf court 18 holes they also have inside. TRULY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I just liked EVERYTHING :-)
We had the best time at Gokarna. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding. We had a very spacious room with a great view. The area is just lovely. Nice forest walks/hikes in the morning and chilled afternoons at the club house while watching the deer. We already miss it.
The ceiling of the pool area needs a refurbishment.
Staff were excellent and golf course and forest walk was great!
Old rooms old property. Seems to be in poorly maintained condition. Swimming pool is in closed space which smells of chlorine. The food was not great. Very basic breakfast.
Set in a beautiful location with friendly staff.
This resort is not a 5-star experience and the facilities such as the indoor pool could benefit from a refurbishment.
Poor and substandard morning to like
Poor quality of food we found metal bits in our breakfast
Spacious room and clean
Customer service, food, Wifi, TV
A great escape from the traffic of Kathmandu. Enjoyed the nature and the golf. Great rooms and good service in the restaurants and in the golf pro shop
The spa was poor and needed an upgrade ..did not seem clean and spa bath not working and water dirty.
golf course
Old property, old facilities. Everything requires renovating
The Staffs are excellent
Everything about Gorkarna was amazing 🤗 beautiful location surrounded by nature. Friendly and helpful staff, what a beautiful room. Celebrated our mini honeymoon there they made sure we had amazing time. A special welcome fruit basket and cake. I will never forget the experience thank you Gokarna resort team.
Nothing like a five star! Many unprofessional staff with no proper training. Far from five star service. Terrible bed, terrible breakfast.
Peaceful surrounding and very good food
Amazing nature surroundings! Not far from center but same time very quite and peaceful part of Kathmandu
Great location, forest walks, lovely staff.
Everything was great. From the moment I checked in, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Location-wise, the hotel is perfect.
I had an exceptional experience. The staffs were efficient and friendly. I also loved the hotel’s amenities. I can’t wait to return!
Beautiful hotel and helpful staff. Food was good, perfect ambiance.
