The room was smelling mould , all Out clothes were smelling. The air wasn’t working but they fixed a day after .

The stay did not meet expectations. The towels provided were not clean, and overall cleanliness could be improved. The property is located directly next to a busy road, which makes it quite noisy. There were also issues with communication regarding the room, including a last-minute change, which was not clearly explained and caused inconvenience. Overall, the experience felt closer to a basic hostel rather than a guest house. Considering the price, the value for money was low.

The location was fantastic, within walking distance to many great restaurants and the beach. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were incredible. They organised tuk tuk’s, hired surfboards to us and cooked us delicious breakfasts each morning.

The staff were very friendly and always helpful, overall it was great value for money and the place was kept very clean. Ideal location for anyone wanting to explore the area.

The location was fantastic. 5 min walk from the main beach and restaurants, but far enough away to be removed from all the noise of the main street. Breakfast was very nice everyday. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, helping us organise taxis and surf lessons (did 2 surf lessons with Ashan which i would highly recommend).

While you're removed from the noise of the main street, you can still hear cars passing by the front of the hotel through the night. Nothing more the hotel can do aboht that, but I would recommend some ear plugs to make sure your sleep isnt interrupted.

Comfortable room, great location with a good breakfast. Did a few surf lessons with Ashan which were also good.

A bit on the expensive side but otherwise can’t fault it!

The property is well kept, lovely and clean. The room is nicely decorated and feels modern. It’s in a great location! Yes it’s a bit noisy as it’s on a main road but it didn’t affect my stay at all. As a solo traveller I found the noise helped me feel safe.

I loved the room and how clean it was. There were lots of choices for breakfast, so that was nice. Close to the Gas Point.

We gave our loundry to one lady and she organized the laundry service. When we got clothes back, they smelled nice, but they were not washed, they were still dirty and had stains on.

Had a great stay! The place is clean and well maintained, close to everything, with incredibly friendly staff. The surf lessons and instructor, Ashan, were awesome.

The staff was super nice and friendly. Breakfast was delicious ! The view from the rooftop was beautiful and overall the environment in the guest house was calm and inviting. We had surf lessons and the instructor was very supportive and attentive, always sharing tips for improvement.

The only thing we believe could be improved is the footage of the surf lessons. For the price per class (quite high), we had very few videos and pictures considering the amount of time we were in the water. Most waves were not captured which was disappointing. The quality of the pictures could also be better (they were out of focus or in a weird angle). Having had similar experiences before, we were expecting more effort.

The staff here are fantastic - they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Excellent location in the heart of Ahangama. Lovely breakfast with a fabulous rooftop view of the surf. The room was light, bright and comfortable with great a/c, good bathroom and lots of space. The pool and outdoor area is fab. Thank you everyone at Ohana, we loved our stay and were sad to leave!

As others have said, Ohana is on a busy, noisy Sri Lankan road! But we didn't find it was an issue.

We had a wonderful stay. We were very well taken care of. We also took two days of surf lessons, organized by the owner himself. Thanks to him, we were able to stand on the board successfully several times. I highly recommend this place. The rooms are tidy, the pool is lovely, the breakfast is good, and the service is loving and kind. We would love to come back (in Madeira😉)

Das Guesthouse liegt direkt an einer lauten und stark befahrenen Straße. Entspannt am Pool liegen geht nur mit Lärm im Hintergrund oder Noisecontrolling-Kopfhörern. Auch im Bett habe ich nur mit Oropax schlafen können.

The place is lovely, the room is clean and well furnished and spacious. Rodolfo and Paula are really nice and the staff is also really kind.

I had a very pleasant stay at Ohana. The room was clean and well equipped with all the essentials (such as shampoo, a nice hot shower, complimentary water in the room, good quality towels and good air conditioning). The staff were exceptionally friendly, the pool was great, and the location is very central. I also took my first surf lesson, which I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. All in all, highly recommended!

Ich habe mich sofort wohl gefühlt. Das Haus ist sehr schön eingerichtet und der Pool ist super sauber und im Garten kann man gut entspannen. Das inkludiert Frühstück ist lecker und frisch und von der Terrasse kann man die Wellen beobachten. Die Gastgeber sind super herzlich und freundlich. Ich hab mich gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Alle Mitarbeiterinnen sind sehr lieb und bemühen sich total. Ich kann das Guesthouse nur empfehlen!

Tive uma experiência excelente no Ohana Surf Guest House. A cama é extremamente confortável, perfeita para descansar depois de um dia inteiro de praia. O banheiro é ótimo: limpo, moderno, com boa pressão de água e sempre bem cuidado. A localização é outro ponto forte: fica muito bem situada, perto da praia, cafés e restaurantes, mas ao mesmo tempo em uma área tranquila. Dá para fazer muita coisa a pé. O ambiente é acolhedor, com aquela sensação de estar em casa, e tudo funciona perfeitamente. Com certeza voltaria e recomendo para quem procura conforto, praticidade e uma ótima localização

Location, location, location. Good breakfast and linen was clean. Great value for money.

Some of the outdoor cushions were dirty. The linen was clean however bed wasn’t too comfortable but had a great 3 days nevertheless.

From the moment we arrived we felt like we were catching up with old friends. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and our room was awesome, so much room. We loved where it was, close to the surf. We highly recommend Ohana, thank you for having us. See you again😊

Хочу выразить огромную благодарность хозяевам Ohana guest house за невероятное гостеприимство и доброжелательность! Отдельное спасибо за возможность раннего заселения после долгой дороги — это было очень приятно и помогло сразу почувствовать заботу. Сложилось стойкое ощущение, что я пожила в большой дружной семье, где всегда готовы помочь. Соотношение цены и качества полностью соответствует. Прекрасное местоположение, балкон, кондиционер, вентилятор и самое главное для меня — чистота, и здесь с этим все в полном порядке. Отмечу вкусные, сытные и ЗОЖ завтраки.

К сожалению, отмечу шум. Я обычно ложусь спать около 22:00-23:00, и было сложно уснуть даже с берушами из-за звуков с крыши (музыка, разговоры), которые продолжались примерно до полуночи, А с 7 утра начинались уже приготовления к завтраку. В последние дни добавилась живая музыка из заведения напротив. Если вы чутко спите, возможно, это будет важно учесть при выборе. И не хватило холодильника в комнате. Но это абсолютно не критично. Несмотря на эти нюансы, благодаря атмосфере и отношению команды, у меня остались теплые впечатления от проживания.

I had a very nice 10-day stay here. The room overlooks the ocean and was very comfortable with AC. The people are great, it has familial atmosphere and I’d recommend it to solo travelers, groups and families! Wifi was great to which came in handy as i was working remotely. Wir waren eine Woche im Ohana und hatten eine tolle Zeit. Die Unterkunft ist wunderschön, stilvoll eingerichtet und sauber. Wir können die Bewertungen mit der lauten/ störenden Straße nicht ganz nachvollziehen. Wir haben sehr viel Zeit im Garten und im Pool verbracht und konnten super entspannen. Natürlich hört man etwas Straßenlärm, aber uns ja es absolut nicht beeinträchtigt. Der nächste positive Punkt, ist das Personal. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und alle waren total nett. Wir sind keine Surfer und haben uns deshalb nicht weniger willkommen gefühlt. Wir haben hilfreiche Tipps erhalten und das Team half uns viele Dinge zu organisieren, wie Transfer etc. Ein wirklich außergewöhnliches Team bei dem man sich wie Zuhause fühlt. Wir können diese Unterkunft nur von Herzen empfehlen und würden wieder kommen!!

Sehr leckere, kreatives und ausgewogenes Frühstück, war nur für unseren Geschmack etwas zu wenig.

No faults

Das Ohana Surf Guest House ist ein schönes und mit Liebe erstelltes Haus. Die Zimmer sind schön, gross und die Ausstattung toll (ausser dass ich vielleicht noch gerne ein Spiegel im Zimmer gehabt hätte und das Bett mehr an die Wand gestellt hätte, damit ich den Lichtschalter vom Bett aus bedienen kann). Es liegt direkt an der Hauptstrasse (die dann halt teilweise etwas laut sein kann) und das Frühstück war gut. Yasmin und Paula sind zwei tolle Gastgeber und Ashan, sowie der Nachtsecurity und das Reinigungspersonal sind sehr nett und bemüht. Der Pool ist wunderbar und schön gepflegt. Die Aussicht von der Dachterasse ist wirklich toll.

Im Zimmer roch es etwas moderig. Die Glasflasche mit Wasser war grün unten. Ich habe mich nicht davon bedient. Die Bettwäsche und die Tücher waren fleckig. Chamil (ebenfalls Teil des Gastgebers) verlangt für seine Tuk Tuk Dienste zu viel Geld und hinterliess bei mir nicht so einen guten Eindruck. Vor allem die Abreise wurde mir dadurch erschwert. Ich persönlich finde es auch nicht unbedingt nötig, dass jeden Tag jemand in mein Zimmer kommt (vor allem wenn ich nur ein paar Tage bliebe) und die Dekokissen und wieder aufs Bett legt. Stattdessen wurde das Bad nicht geputzt. Mir wäre die Prio beim Bad persönlich lieber gewesen, da es für mich mühsam war, jeden Abend mein Bett wieder zu richten.

Ohana Surf Guest House is a cozy and welcoming place, perfect for surfers and travelers alike. The location is excellent — just a short walk to Ahangama and Kabalana beaches.

The cleanliness of the accommodation, the great breakfast and especially the warmth of the staff and owners were outstanding and made my stay truly memorable.

The location is not on the beach but across the busy main road, for the ocean it is a short walk, however for a beach day you can enjoy one the amenities of the (more expensive) hotels that are connected with the beach

It was an excellent few days of lounging and surfing. Rodolfo and Ana, affectionately called Papa and Mama by the locals, took the extra step in taking care of me and my friend, catering to different surf levels and spending time 1x1 with us out in the water. Excellent surf right outside the lodge, comfortable rooms with good AC (you will need it!) and fresh breakfasts. Definitely looking forward to my next visit

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Ohana. The room was simple and chic and clean, mosquito nets well maintained, nice smelling products in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful and welcoming. Book a surf lesson! I had a lot of fun. Beginners at Weligama and more advanced near the guest house. Breakfast was delicious! Location was a short walk along the busy main drag that runs through town. There is a nice blend of Sri Lankan and western food and finally somewhere to get a good cup of coffee!

The main road outside is quite busy in the day but it’s quite quiet in the rooms.

The room decor was fresh and modern and the location is central to the beach and restaurants. What really made it was the team who own and run it. Paula and Rudy and the staff were so welcoming. We did a surf lesson too which was fantastic.

A little bit of traffic noise due to location. You get used to it quickly and not noticable in the room but can hear it outside.

The rooms are very big, the staff is super friendly, the fopd is delicious & the view from the restaurant is awesome. The location is perfect, in the middle of restaurants, yoga, beaches, shops.

This has nothing to do with the property itself. One just has to be aware it is located on the main road where buses and heavy trucks pass by throughout the day. Chilling by the pool wasn’t as relaxing as we hoped.

Staying at Ohana was such a wonderful and heartwarming experience! Paula, Rodulfo and the complete staff are the best hosts you can imagine. They do everything to make you feel right at home and become part of their Ohana, their Family. The property is the best we have seen during our stay in Sri Lanka. This level of hospitality is hard to find in this country; they clean the rooms everyday, the breakfast menu is amazing and tasty (from overnight-oats to avotoast and chiapudding!), the pool is very clean and well maintained. They help you with everything you need to find your way in Ahangama and experience this town on its best! We had surf classes every day, absolutely the best and most complete classes we have had. You learn everything about the physical movements, coordination on the board and different types of wave patterns, this helped us improve our surf skills quickly. Every class ended with feedback photo analysis to personally improve more and more every day. Definitely worth the money and really recommend taking Rodulfo’s classes, even if your not staying at their hotel. The only hard part was leaving Ohana since extending our stay wasn’t possible, everything was fully booked and we understand why! We booked another hotel in the same street but were still welcomed at Ohana, this shows us how heartoriented these owners are. Very thankful for this experience!

An absolute pearl in Ahangama! The rooms were very nice and clean! It was cleaned daily and the beds were made! Also the owners and the employees were very very friendly and sweet! Breakfast was included and it was excellent and homemade! I would definitely visit again!

The best guest house in Ahangama. We stayed for 6 nights. Starting from the first day owners made us feel home. Everything was perfect: location (on the main road), healthy &tasty breakfasts, clean and cozy rooms, nice pool. 100% recommend this place.

Rudi and Paula and the rest of the team couldn't have been more welcoming. Me and my family were expecting a basic stay and our expectations were certainly exceeded! We were greeted and treated like family, served a delicious breakfast each morning and our rooms cleaned beautifully every day like clockwork. The facilities were perfect, the whole building brand new and created by the owner himself! and the surf lessons that we had were the most fun my family had together on our whole trip in sri lanka. Rudi was even able to get my 74 year old dad up on a board! Highly highly reccomend for your next stay in Ahangama Can't thank you enough Rudolfo and Paula. The whole family cannot wait for our next stay.

The owners and staff are wonderful, friendly, laid back people who make you feel at home and extremely well looked after, give you all information about the town, places to eat or party and transport that you need. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The surf lessons are also great, I had never surfed before and was able to learn very fast. But I would recommend the guesthouse even if you don't surf. It was an excellent experience.

Everything is nice here, owner, surf , surflessen all People you meet. Paula, Rudolfi, chamill and ashan is amazing people 😅😇🤩😍

Clean room.

First of all they try to cheat on money. Rent a board or surf lesson is 5 x less on the beach. Air condition sometimes do not work. Guest House is very near to the loud street - no chill.

- the location - the pool - the balcony was nice - good selection of surf boards

- limited breakfast options - inconvenient timings of room cleanings (happening for about 5h each day so that when you’re in the pool - you can’t just chill - you hear the vacuum cleaner and all the stuff going on around) - sound proofing of my first room - I could hear everything being said on the stairs right next to the room and upstairs - suboptimal bathroom layout - the entire bathroom gets all wet the second you take a shower and the cleaning does not include change of towels - wet towels are placed back into the bathroom - construction going on RIGHT next to my room - with no prior notice - causing lots of dust, ALOT of noise and BAD smell - painting of doors and other topics happening a few meters away while you might want to chill on the balcony…. (had to switch rooms to get further away from it)

Spacious and comfortable rooms. The fact that they were serviced daily and fresh drinking water supplied every day. The breakfast was awesome and ofcourse the staff make you feel welcome and part of the Ohana family.

My boyfriend and I have just arrived home after the most brilliant stay at Ohana Surf Guest House! We can’t recommend it enough; if you’re staying in Ahangama this is the place to be. The location was so perfect - 5-10 mins easy walk to a number of fantastic places to eat/drink and we had the choice of about 5 different waves within the same walking distance! Rodulfo and Paula are phenomenal hosts - excellent breakfast, super clean and comfortable rooms and the pool was perfect after a long morning of surfing! Rodulfo is also a brilliant, expert surf coach - a very rare find amongst the locals along the main strip! Please do book in with him - again can’t recommend highly enough! Thank you Ohana, will absolutely be back in 2025.

Beautiful modern place! It was private, great air con, spacious room with a table, and a good sized bathroom.

I loved the staff and how welcoming they were, I felt at home as soon as I got up to my room. Enna & Julia were just such lovely girls and nothing was ever too much for them, any problems were dealt with in such a professional & friendly manner. The room was clean and spacious with mosquito nets and cleaned daily, the cleaners always greeted you with a smile and done a fantastic job keeping the place tidy. Also Chamile such a lovely guy who would sort things out for you if you needed any help on anything. The pool was a welcoming respite from the heat and you felt safe at Ohana as during the night they have a lovely guy who looks after the place. I will definitely return to Ohana when I come back to visit Sri Lanka

Nothing to dislike about the place. Maybe the road noise if your a light sleeper but apart from that you can’t fault this place

everything great except for it being right at the main street, and the pool as well as most of the rooms unfortunately also face towards the road, so if you know Sri Lanka traffic it can get noisy. If you’re looking for a serene, quiet getaway, maybe look somewhere a little off to the side streets. Otherwise excellent value for money, great staff, super clean and comfy rooms.

Brand new surf boutique house in a great location. Loved the rooms and lovely common areas

Ohana is an amazing guest house. The rooms are new, nicely decorated, and super clean. Paula, Rudolfo, and Chamill were great hosts and took very good care of us. Paula and the team make a tasty breakfast every morning with lots of options on what you can eat. They are there to support and help you with any questions or requests. The rest of the staff are very sweet, and you feel at home and welcomed as soon as you walk in. Ohana is located right on the coastal road, so you hear the traffic, but as soon as you walk through the door and enter the pool area, you feel secluded and in a little bubble of calm. It's also perfectly located (walking distance) from the busy centre of Ahangama where there is a growing number of amazing restaurants (Le Belle, Cactus, Marshmellow, Unkles and Thileni's were some of our favourites. Also - best of all one of there's a choice of breaks for surfing literally across the road. It will take you 2 min to get into the water.

Paula and her husband are very friendly hosts and always there to help. We enjoyed our stay with them. The place is rather new with simple but cute furnishing and well working AC. The beach is just across the street and many restaurants and beach bars are within walking distance. Would go there again when staying in Ahangama!

Fresh modern high quality rooms with big beds, good ac and all by a lovely pool. Great friendly atmosphere and the hosts are brilliant. Over looks a couple of surf spots and is 5 mins in a Tuk Tuk from lots more. All the family loved it, surfers and non surfers.

We had a lovely stay at Ohana, the location is great, the rooms are super nice and they clean the rooms everyday. The owners are so kind and helpful and really creates a warm and heartful vibe for the guests. They also offer surf lessons. Great place to stay as a couper but also family o friendgroup.

No fridge on the room, but other than that it was perfect

The rooms were the best we had during our whole trip in Sri Lanka. The hostel is very new, the rooms are big, very clean and the bed was super comfortable and huge. The mosquito net and the aircondition were perfect to get a nice and calm sleep. You can meet at least Paula during the whole breakfast time and ask her any questions or just send her a message. We loved it and would definitely come back!

We've had a very good stay at Ohana Surf House. Rooms are clean, spacious, with an silence air conditioner... Swimming pool is Great, and there is a little outdoor shower we enjoyed when we were back from the beach. The rooftop is amazing and offers a great view, allowing to see the line up. I have to say Paula is a great host, very welcoming. And for some reason, we couldn't arrive the day we booked at the hotel. She arranged us to change our booking at the last moment. We are very grateful of that.

We have been a little bit surprised about the fact drinkable water is not 24/24 available, Of course there is a drinkable water distributor in the kitchen. But it is closed during the night, and no chance to find any water around if you don't have a bottle in your room. On the other hand, I came to refill a half bottle during the evening, just for the night, and Rudolfo told me I'm not supposed to fill a bottle, and it's only to drink "by the glass". We cannot make a point on this one, especially for the price and the standing of such a place. Becareful with the surf course / photo prices, which are very high (40$), as it's even cheaper in France. Anyway, great stay, lovely places but the water issue needs to be improved

I stayed over a week at Ohana and could have stayed away longer. Everything was perfect. Location is great, rooms are brand new, and besides the family running the house is amazing.

I writing this message from taxi and going to airport. It's been 10 minutes and I miss you already(. This perfect place for a relax and learning surfing. Before that, I was afraid ocean and waves, because i had an terrible incident in the ocean. Now, I’m started surfing, and not afraid like before. Thanks Paula and Rodolfo for this experience, you a great teacher! This house is a good location, 1-2 minutes to the a beach, 5 minutes to the great caffee, all stay near house. I stay here a long time, and necessarily I’m come back

The Ohana Surfhouse is close to 3-4 top surfing spots for all surfing levels. Next to it and close by are several really good restaurants and nice Cafés. The host are super engaged and welcoming. If you want to learn surfing Rudi will be the perfect guy for you. The breakfast bowl is fantastic.

The property is brand new, so don’t hesitate if you see not so many reviews. Everything is extremely clean. The family which opened the hotel is incredible, very hospitable. Felt like real Ohana ( family ) The location is perfect, next to the best beaches for surfing. And the instructor is very careful and professional. Absolutely recommend ❤️
