A Wonderful Final Night in Sri Lanka We spent our last night in Sri Lanka at Bakers Cottage, and it was a wonderful way to finish our trip. The room was perfect, very clean, and beautifully arranged. We really loved the architecture and the peaceful atmosphere. The sound of the waves together with the birds created such a relaxing feeling, while the surrounding greenery made us feel comfortable and connected with nature. The swimming pool was also a highlight — clean, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing. We booked the Madu River mangrove boat ride and a visit to the turtle hatchery through the host, and both experiences were amazing. We also had an authentic Sri Lankan dinner, which was absolutely delicious and a lovely cultural experience. The host, Kasun, was extremely friendly and helpful. One of the most memorable parts of our stay was going with him to a nearby temple at night. He explained Buddhist culture and history to us in a very simple and interesting way, which gave us a genuine opportunity to connect with the local culture. Kasun has a great knowledge of Buddhism, history, and psychology, and his explanations made the experience even more meaningful. If you want to explore the area and experience the local culture, I highly recommend going with him. We will definitely come back. We were actually sad that we didn't have enough time to try the Ayurvedic massage! One piece of advice: don't book Bakers Cottage for only one night. Stay at least two nights so you have enough time to enjoy the cottage, relax by the pool, explore the surrounding area, visit the turtle hatchery, take a Madu River safari, and experience the local culture. A truly memorable place to end our Sri Lankan journey. ❤️🇱🇰
Everything was perfect
The staff were really helpful and did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The evening meal was traditional Sri Lankan and was amazing. (It was the only Sri Lankan food our eat all trip.
Don't come out of season. The beach is really rough and everything is closed.
Kasun was incredibly helpful with arranging a river safari and transport to/from the turtles and a souvenir shop! The breakfast and dinners were excellent and huge (for a family of 4), the property was spacious, clean and very well presented. The swimming pool was great.
Nothing, it was brilliant
Heel vriendelijk personeel. Grote tafel pp het terras. Keuken aanwezig. Fijne douche.
I came to Bakers Cottage for just one night, but because of the warm hospitality and the beauty of this place, I decided to stay 05 more days. The garden is filled with luxurious greenery and the peaceful sound of birds, making every morning feel fresh and relaxing. Every morning, monkeys visit the garden, which makes the experience even more special. The sound of the waves reaches the rooms like a soft whisper from the beach. Mother prepares delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts every morning, and you should definitely try the traditional Sri Lankan herbal drink. Guests can also order lunch and dinner from the cottage, all homemade with love by Mother. It’s a perfect chance to taste a variety of authentic Sri Lankan local dishes. They also provide airport shuttle service with a friendly driver, and guests can easily plan their entire Sri Lanka trip with Kasun, the host. One of the most unforgettable experiences was seeing turtles and having the chance to release baby turtles into the sea. It was truly magical and emotional. Finally, don’t miss the Madu River boat safari and the Ayurvedic massage experience. Definitely, I will come back again!
Alles was top
Very peaceful and close to the beach!
everything nice
Location was ideal as it was on our way back to the airport. It is also a great beach area and famous for turtle hatcheries. We also really enjoyed the Madu boat and river safari. We also managed to fit in a family Ayurveda massage session for all the family which the host family arranged prior to our arrival.

The Baker’s Cottage was an absolute gem of a place! We stayed at the villa next to the garden — simple, rustic, and beautifully natural (not manicured or artificial in any way). The rooms are large, creatively built, and clean. You can see the thought and character that has gone into designing them. 10/10 to this place! Starting with the pickup — Kasun (you’ll hear more about him!) picked us up promptly from the airport, the 90–120 minute drive smooth and comfortable. We were treated to an excellent Sri Lankan breakfast every morning — truly one of the highlights of our trip. As a vegetarian, I had struggled during my previous visit to Sri Lanka, but Kasun and his family made sure we were well taken care of. In fact, we went back for second servings! The taste still lingers. Don’t miss the curry, sambol, and rice — absolutely delicious. The beach is about 200 meters away, though you may want to walk a little further towards Yathra Restaurant — the stretch there is even better. A cup of coffee by the beach is a must! We also did the Madu River boat ride —. Kasun personally drove us and accompanied us on the ride. We went early in the morning and enjoyed the fresh breeze through the mangroves. What made it even more special were the conversations — learning about the culture, local life, and stories. It felt authentic and meaningful. Evenings were relaxed and peaceful. If you’re looking for something more lively, Sheraton is nearby as well. Kasun arranged bikes for us, which made getting around super easy. If you’re traveling as a bigger family, I’m sure they can arrange a tuk-tuk too. Overall, we had a fantastic time at The Baker’s Cottage. Kasun and his family are incredibly professional, warm, and helpful. At the end of the day, a place is just a building — what makes it special is the people and their story. Kasun is a master storyteller. We came in as guests and left as friends.

Ładny domek w pięknym tropikalnym ogrodzie, ładnie i praktycznie wyposażony.
Potrzebowaliśmy wizyty u lekarza i Kusan ja zorganizował i nas zawiózł.
The staff and ambience
We were informed the night before our arrival that, due to a power failure, Baker’s Cottage was unavailable. The host promptly offered us accommodation at their sister property, Turtle Bay Cottage, which turned out to be a lovely alternative. The house was very clean and exactly as shown in the photos—simple yet well presented. Although a bit secluded, it’s only about a 10-minute walk to the beach, which made for a peaceful setting. Breakfast was included and varied each day. On our first morning we were served egg sandwiches with almonds and bananas; on the second morning we enjoyed delicious string hoppers with chicken curry and coconut sambol. You may want to pick up a few extra snacks or fruit from a nearby grocery store to supplement, but overall it was a satisfying start to each day. Despite this minor inconvenience, Turtle Bay Cottage offered a comfortable stay, a responsive host, and a quiet location close to the beach—an easy place to recommend.
Communication with the property managers could be challenging at times since they spoke little English. For example, we didn’t realize payment needed to be in cash and didn’t have enough with us. They seemed a bit reluctant to accompany us to the ATM during heavy rains, but we managed to sort it out when our Uber ride arrived.
The room is spacious. It has a calm atmosphere with a European-style mansion design. The bed making is very clean.
My stay here was not comfortable. First of all, upon arrival I was barked at by a dog. I was very surprised because I had never been barked at by dogs in Sri Lanka before. It seemed that the dog was not used to people. The room looks tidy at first glance. Since the property is located in a natural setting, I can accept a few insects, but I would appreciate it if large insects, pests, and big spider webs were taken care of. Also, there were no towels, toilet paper, or amenities, and the bath mat was not clean. Breakfast was homemade and I believe it was good quality, but it was too sweet for me and I could not eat much. This is a very nice facility, and I think it could become much better if these points are improved.
Interior design
The owner has a pet dog and it was very noisy
Vriendelijke mensen. Behulpzaam. Aanrader om bij mw te eten. Erg lekker. Ontbijt goed
Afgelegen, niet veel in de omgeving
Fantastic stay at Bakers Cottage. The host family were very hospitable and provided us with free tuk tuk rides around the area and fabulous food. Our stay was short but one of the nicest we have had in Sri Lanka, would happily visit again.
Amazing place, beautiful interior and architecture. Very clean. Tasty breakfast. Very friendly owners - whole family.
This was a perfect calming experience. The cottage was comfortable and super clean. And the most valuable was the kindness and hospitability of the family, who host us. All the members of the family were opened to all our questions and were explaining about all plants, that are growing in their lovely garden. The garden is full of Ayurvedic plants and the housekeeper cooked us a delicious dinner using Ayurvedic plants and local ingridients. They offered us free transportation to turtle centre near by and explained about best local tours. We appreciate the whole experience and we were sorry we did not plan another day at this hospitable place.
If there is one thing I could recommaned, there would be mosquito nets over all bads.
A beautiful place to stay in Sri Lanka, in a beautiful rural setting close to the sea. One of the most beautiful places I have stayed in Sri Lanka. Definitely will be back
We had a very pleasant stay here. The owners provided us with very good facilities. They even provided us with a scooter. This was the best stay of my trip. I hope to come back.
Perfect
peaceful and beautifully designed property. surrounded by peaceful nature. The highlight of our stay was the outstanding service from staff. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. We’ll definitely be back!
One of the most lovely accommodations I have stayed in Sri Lanka. The owners are very friendly and kind. The place is very clean. The area is very beautiful.
Very very very nice chic villa to yourself, next to wonderful hosts family all whom are very nice and treat you with such kindness and respect.
Everything was great. 10/10 stay
Very neat and clean place. The owners are very nice. Very beautiful area. Breakfast is free and it is very good.
The owners are very nice and friendly. They gave us great directions about the area. They always provided free transportation. There are many beautiful places to see in this area.
Magic! Owners the kindest people. Excellent Sri Lankan home cooking whenever we needed it- breakfast and dinner. Lovely location near good swimming beach. Hosts' local knowledge very successful for turtles on beach. Hostess proud to show us all the food and spice plants in their garden, used for our meals. Nothing too much trouble. Really pleasant and relaxing private sitting areas to enjoy birds and trees. A big favourite for us.
The villa is lovely and is set in a beautiful garden. The mother of the family was really kind, showing us around the garden and explaining the benefits of the plants and trees.
It felt like the whole stay was about trying to squeeze money out of us. Food portions were quite meagre and expensive but there is nowhere else to eat around here. I would also not recommend this as a town to visit. There was very little going on and lots of people trying to take you places that would give them a commission (also our experience with the father of the family). This was a disappointing end to our trip.
The place was beyond my expectations... I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely interior of the small house. It is so homey that one could live here forever. Everything is designed with such care. It is beyond the worth of money. I would recommend this place to all my friends who would love some peaceful serenity. The room even have a secret readers corner at the windowsill. It is like a dream coming true... Can cook my own meals because the house has all the utensils...
Nothing I didn't like... But If I'm to suggest a few improvements, 1. The cottage main door key is a bit difficult to turn 2. It's better if there is a tap or shower outside to have a wash after a sea bath 3. The rooms are full of mosquitoes despite the vaporizers. I wonder if keeping the windows closed all the time would help. 4. The cottage doesn't have tea bags or coffee/sugar sachets
The best accommodation I found during my trip to Sri Lanka. Very comfortable, beautiful environment, beautiful beach, very nice owners, explained the area to us very well. The breakfast is excellent, it is free and very rich and delicious. Every day a new recipe. If you come here, don't forget to have dinner here. It is very delicious and affordable.
A beautiful paradise very close to the sea. Very friendly owners. Very good explanation of the area. Very good architecture. Very beautifully decorated. Very comfortable. The most beautiful place we stayed in Sri Lanka. Will definitely come back.
Very quiet and clean
Beautiful furnishings. Very large windows and beautiful outdoor area. The room is nice and bright. Own refrigerator Delicious breakfast which is included Dinner is avaidable and very tasty. The hostess is very nice and helpful Close to the beach Cheap for the size and equipment 28 €/night
The bed was a bit uncomfortable No or only bad wifi in the room Mosquito net hangs in an unfavorable place Dinner is very good but Compared to the room price, dinner is relatively expensive. However, the area around Bentota and Koskoda is generally a bit more expensive. Therefore, the price is probably appropriate for the area :)
Really well designed
Too many stairs
Beautiful design, 3 min walk to beach, nice staff.
Dog barking constantly late during the night and early in the morning for several hours, and a lot of construction around and on the property - so don’t expect a quiet experience.
Bakers cottage was a stop for us as we were making our way back to Colombo. Accommodation was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Family were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was good with fruits from the garden and some local Sri Lankan dishes. The mattress was a little bit hard for us, but this is likely to be replaced as the family noted this. Location on Kosgoda beach meant a lovely sunset. Swimming options further up the beach or a short tuk tuk drive away. A few restaurants nearby, local and tourist and more options not to far away by tuk tuk
Breakfast could be better.
The room smelt of cement… it has a rough cement floor and it’s very nice but something must be done to remove the cement smell. Floor could even be hosed down not just mopped.
This cottage is a great find. The little house is perfect for a family or small group looking for somewhere comfortable with a bit of independence. Really well equipped, super attentive hosts and lovely decor. It feels safe, private and near to beach. A little drive from Bentota town but that’s a win for us.
We had dinner one night and it was excellent although rather pricy, so be sure to check on that. A few places to eat locally or perhaps a short tuk-tuk ride away.
Really amazing and cosy place, especially the hosts were very lovely and welcoming. The apartment was very clean and aesthetically pleasing. We ended up having breakfast and dinner there everyday because it was so delicious!

Superfriendly family. Welcomed us with flowers and showed us around the property. Their hospitality is beyond all. The lady even dressed up my wife with her wedding sari and I got the chance to try their tuk tuk. Great room with AC and a nice bathroom. Great place for one or two nights. Close to a beautiful beach. Only 5 minutes walk.
Had all the mod cons I needed Bed was sooo comfortable Outside Bath was fab Near the beach Lovely garden Perfect family space
