The oldies and the location
Beds not very comfortable- overpriced accommodation and food
Location, staff, food
Due to being a listed building, no air conditioning in 35c heat
Great staff and service. Beautiful rooms, building and gardens. They surprised us with a bottle of fizz.
There was no fridge in the room (but it's just a detail)
Lovely garden to sit and enjoy drinks or afternoon tea. Decor in keeping with the the age and standard of the property.
It was impossible to sleep in the room allocated. Our room (32) was at the very top of the main building facing the road. It was like a sauna next to a racetrack, with a totally inadequate cooling fan. These rooms should not have been sold!!
Old school British heritage hotel that gets it right in terms of quality of service and accommodation. Beautiful gardens and lovely old building with its original features.
Nothing
Location. Decor in communal areas.
Our room was very basic, a bit tired especially the bathroom. Not what I expected for this price. Very disappointing.
Beautiful hotel & grounds. Located in a beautiful village. Staff were very friendly and provided whatever was requested to them. We were there for our anniversary which I had told them about & when we were allowed into our too an anniversary card was waiting there for us from the hotel. 💕

Olde world charm. This is a hotel that will appeal to all those who like a British vibe. Staff were exceptional and went out of their way to help and oblige. The food for breakfast and dinner was superb. The garden for afternoon tea was sublime. It also was a delightful place to have evening cocktails! A brilliant location for so many things to do! We went to the Isle of Wight, The Motor Museum and visited the house while there ( worth it!). Our main reason for the visit was to cycle in the new forest and we had a BRILLIANT time! Miles and miles of traffic free, but also able to pop into gorgeous villages for sustenance. We had a WONDERFUL visit!
The downstairs loo was out of order while we there. These things happen, but it was a mild inconvenience. Other than that the stay was perfect. Highly recommend!
Comfortable clean hotel with friendly attentive staff. Lovely Gardens.
Car park remote from rooms.
We loved everything! Thank you! ❤️
Comfortable room. Beautiful setting. Staff very helpful and good service
Nothing. Wished I booked another night !
Location
Small room a bit pricey
Did not take breakfast but enjoyed excellent evening supper
The garden is amazing
The room was called Hazel. very clean, a great size for 3, sofa bed for child great. The breakfast was epic. Great, helpful staff. The gardens are stunning. Wanted to stay longer. We will be back for sure. Oh, the walk down to Bucklers Hard was amazing along the river. You cant beat starting a walk from the Montague Arms and ending up at another pub called the Master Builders pub. Whats not to like!
Perfect location, beautiful gardens. Staff helpful and friendly. Dinner in the Terrace Restaurant was absolutely lovely. Fresh produce, lived up to expectations of somewhere special to eat.
Lacked a little atmosphere in the bar area which is a little tired but service made up for that
buffet breakfast was outstanding. option to pay for cooked breakfast if wanted.
So relaxing and comfortable , such attentive staff .
Nothing not to like
Beautiful period property with amazing gardens and a gorgeous down stairs area with heaps of character . In a lovely position close to the river . Staff were very helpful and a lovely walk was available close by . The bathroom was very up to date and a good size
The bedroom was just very basic with minimal extra touches . It also was very hot but a fan was provided
Comfortable beds, lovely breakfast, beautiful garden. Helpful friendly staff. Sparkling clean.
Unable to see out of bedroom window. No information pack in room. Long walk to room and no lift ( I should have checked ! ) .
Staff were very friendly and approachable. Breakfast had lots of choices, both hot and cold. The Terrace Restaurant was excellent and the food was amazing.
Our suite was a little tired looking with some cobwebs in the eaves but it wouldn’t put us off recommending it to others
Wonderful feel, classy & dignified. Beautiful room & restaurant next door was good for dinner.
Boiler breaking so no hot water. A note under the door would have been a welcome approach as opposed to getting into the shower!
Excellent breakfast included with plenty of choice and good croissants pastel de nate etc
The room was a little tired eg bathroom and bedroom carpet but clean and comfortable and conveniently licated
The restaurant and the food were top notch. Although rather pricey the food was worth it. The gardens were a big surprise, so attractive and well kept. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was classed as "snug" but very comfortable and the bathroom had a bath and a very nice shower. We made a good choice in booking here.
We ate in the pub (Monty's) which is attached to the Hotel. We chose steak and veg pies and the meat was tough some of it inedible. Credit to the manager for withdrawing the charge and dealing professionally with the situation but the evening was spoiled.
Comfortable, welcoming and staff couldn’t do enough to help
Everything…well thought out Beautiful gardens and great food
Lovely and clean beautiful gardens lovely staff breakfast exceptional
All great
Welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.
Nothing
The mix of family friendly and still stylish, good food, the staff were extreme lt helpful and kind to our children
Just a lovely stay - excellent welcoming staff and a truly comfortable room
Excellent service from staff all around
Nothing
Very well maintained clean and well organised
We were on the top floor which was unexpected
Good breakfast
The building has lovely features, very clean
This is a charming hotel with an excellent service not to mention the beautiful surroundings.
nothing
Amazing location , beautiful hotel managed by the most wonderful people
Leaving
The hotel itself was beautiful
The radiator wasn’t working in the bedroom and the room was very cold. When we told reception it was like they already knew that and said there was a portable one in the cupboard . This hardly warmed the room at all . So we had a cold night
Lovely building in a lovely location, near the forest. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The rooms were very overpriced, dusty, and didn’t have hot water! However, our issues were quickly resolved.
Superb - good choice and excellent quality breakfast with nice touches.
It should have been clearer when booking that the hotel restaurant was closed. This information wasn't clear on the booking details or on the hotel website. We ate at the pub attached to the hotel which was okay but more casual and informal than we wanted for a celebration meal.
A beautifully run hotel in a beautiful old building. Top notch service and comfort - I could sit and read in the calm, old school lounge for days!
The Montague is a very old hotel with bags of character. My husband had an appointment locally, and so I chose to visit with him and work from the hotel. It is comfortable and cosy, and the staff cannot do enough for you. Always, friendly and very efficient. We ate in Monty's, which is the pub part of the hotel, which was very enjoyable; we both loved how dog friendly the place is, with lots of dog beds and treats around. On a previous visit, we ate in the Terrace restaurant, which was also very good. There are lovely walks around the area too, plus it is a great base for visiting further a field.
There is nothing not to like!
Family environment and the parfum.
Beautiful setting . Cosy rooms and very clean . Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Maybe a lift would be useful for less able guests
Location dog friendly food staff
Noisy during late evening as preparing for a large wedding downstairs and below our room
It’s a great building.
Room was cramped for price.
We had a lovely stay at the Montagu arms! The staff were very friendly and helpful, lovely setting and great interior with a cosy downstairs lounge. The breakfast was very good too!
Our room was incredibly small and difficult to move around. The bathroom also only had a bath so thought a shower rather than a bath would have been better. The hotel generally felt that it needed a bit of refurbishment. The food in the restaurant (Monty's) was not particularly good and really expensive.
Clean, comfortable, great food, friendly staff
Room 22 very noisy from ventilation noise from 5am! Shower very stiff controls and poor water flow Paying for a cooked breakfast is petty. No need for it considering the room rates.
Location is excellent and it has old world charm. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is good .
The valance on the bed was dirty and tired , everything else was clean so was surprised at this being missed.
The room, Monty's bar, breakfast, all beyond excellent...
Abuse of disabled parking space.
Location is fantastic but hotel looking a little tired (worn carpets etc). Food very good and Monty’s excellent.
Internet service in our room was weak which is unexpected in such hotels.
Rooms were recently renovated Very clean
Breakfast was a little expensive as they only include continental in the bed ans breakfast price. You have to pay extra for hot.
Cute countryside house in a nice location. The garden is super pretty and kept in perfect condition.
The staff is not very attentive. On multiple occasions, we had to remind the service on our order.
It was charming, with period features and great attention to detail with the added bonus of air conditioning. The room was a lovely size and comfortable. Breakfast choice was excellent. Staff all very friendly.
Nothing. Although we did feel the price for the room was quite expensive.
Great food, lovely garden to relax in.

A warm welcome into a beautiful heritage property right in the heart of the village. Excellent service and great food
Nothing
Good breakfast
The Sunday lunch could have been better
Location
Room was a hot box nothing to cool it down small for the cost of the room Road noise due to windows having to be open to cool room Room could have been cooler if window had been open and curtains drawn prior to our arrival Curtains needed to be open at night for ventilation and cooling but this caused room to be fully illuminated from external lighting on the hotel and our room was over looked then by other occupants
Lovely hotel, comfortable, clean, great breakfast, evening meal excellent too. Good location too.
Air con didn't go very low. Found a large piece of grit in my flap jack, teeth hurt all day.
Very accommodating and friendly staff Beautiful setting Good facilities

The breakfast was excellent with good choices. The staff very efficient and friendly.
Nothing.
Absolutely lovely, but very expensive
Breakfast good, loved all the fresh fruit and pastries. Coffee not so good. Staff very good
The coffee was too weak. Otherwise b’fast excellent. Our room had an old sofa, needs new chairs to sit and read. Too cramped so couldn’t reach windows! Needs a refurb. Comfy bed.
Breakfast average. Location excellent. Lovely little garden.
Like many hotels today it’s looking a little tired. Particularly the common parts
