Staying at the altaf Houseboat felt like stepping into a painting. The calm waters of Dal Lake mirrored the vibrant sky, and the ornate woodwork of the houseboat offered an old-world charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. Very very good experience at this house boat. We were treated like kings and the food was very very good and tasty. The houseboat is very very clean and hygienic. The location is top class with best views of the mountains and lakes and forts. The roof top was the best that no houseboat has. Highly recommend. Just close your eyes and book the Altaf houseboats

The was an older man who was very kind. If you want an authentic boathouse experience, this is it.

In our view the boat is not clean, it is old and not comfortable. The bed is very hard. You are also a walking wallet to some people, they try to make you spend more money than you should. Check online for prices, for taxi’s, etc. It is a shame because this way you lose a human connection, things become superficial and are oftentimes transactional.

Warning - this is a group of houseboats so you will likely not stay in the houseboats in the photos. When we arrived, we were shocked when they stopped at the boat and thought it was a mistake, as it didn’t look like the photos at all and we thought it was the staff lodging or under renovation as out front there were stacks of paint buckets, loose nails on the ground, and garbage. There was such a strong smell of paint throughout the boat, both me and my dad got migraines from the smell and felt really sick - they should know better then to put guests when they are still renovating it. The listing on Booking.com just makes differences between the room capacity options, but know that no matter what room you book you could end up on any houseboat. There were some in the group that were quite nice, but you do not know what you will get. In the end, he had another room available in another boat, but charged us double the price what we were going to pay in booking even though we just had two double rooms like we had originally booked. Nothing is included in the price like transport to land, breakfast, or even tea and their prices are a bit high.

Staying and relaxing in a houseboat is a unique experience! Altaf, and their team made sure that our family’s dal lake stay was super comfortable. A Kashmiri experience with wonderful rooms, friendly staff, good food and good hygiene. Yummy food made in the kitchen was ready and served hot at our request. Will comeback soon.

My parents and I were so well looked after by Mr Ghulam. The interior of the houseboat was beautiful, the meals were especially served close to our rooms because mom had mobility issues. Did I say it was delicious. Mr Ghulam was extremely accommodating- making sure our rooms were well heated given the winter cold that we decided to embrace on our trip ! He went above and beyond to make sure we went in a timely manner in our shikara ride Thank you Mr Ghulam😊

The boat didn't have heating, so it was incredibly cold. The owner was trying to scam me every day with a different thing. He would say there was no Uber there and I needed to take his taxi, I used Uber and it was perfect. He tried to charge me 2000 to go to the Shankaracharya Temple by taxi. I got a driver for 4 hours for 800 who took me there and many other places. He wanted to charge me 1200 to take me to the airport, when I said I already had a 600 taxi booked, he told me it would only take me up until 1km away from the airport, at the security stop, and leave me there. That didn't happen, the taxi was wonderful. Beware of this because he will lie to you at any cost to sell you extremely overpriced services - a true conman! Even his friends were laughing when he was telling me the airport taxi stuff. To top it off, one of the staff members asked me for a tip for having cleaned my room PRIOR to my arrival, as he didn't clean it during it. Believe it or not, he said he wasn't paid to do it and just sustained himself off the tips of people (I didn't believe him, they are all liars).

The food quality was like home made and there were other travelers staying at these houseboats and every one enjoyed their food. These are the best houseboats one should stay.

I had really high hopes for my houseboat stay—it’s one of those things you see on Instagram and think, I have to experience this at least once. Sadly, the reality was far from what I imagined. First, let me start with the good. They sent someone to pick us up from the airport, and he was right on time, which was nice. Of course, the pickup wasn’t free, but it was convenient. Now for the actual experience. The houseboat we were put on was in terrible condition. It was freezing cold, and there were constant power cuts. The guy who greeted us didn’t exactly set a warm tone either—he handed us a list of rules like we were checking into some strict hostel. It felt like we were more of a bother to them than guests. Breakfast was a joke. We’d order something simple like upma or bread and butter, and it would take over an hour to arrive. For a place that’s supposed to be a luxurious experience, the service was seriously disappointing. Here’s the kicker: after four days of our six-day stay, they suddenly told us the boat needed maintenance and moved us to another houseboat. The new boat was way better—warmer, cleaner, and just overall nicer. It made me wonder why they didn’t put us there from the start. They claimed it was an “upgrade” for staying more than four days, but it was clear they had this boat available the whole time. To make things worse, on our last day, we saw them bring another family onto the first boat—the one that was supposedly going into “maintenance.” The family looked so disappointed when they saw it, and I could totally relate. I wanted to warn them about what to expect, but the houseboat crew was hovering around us the whole time, so we couldn’t even have a proper conversation. Honestly, staying on a houseboat was nothing like what you see on social media. It was uncomfortable, frustrating, and felt like a complete rip-off. Best Group of Houseboats in Srinagar" We checked-in as family of 4. Awesome Location, they send their Shikara to pickup us up from Ghat of Dal Lake. The Manager and his team was there to welcome us upon arrival, offered us High Tea, they also arrange Shikara for Evening Tour of the Dal Lake. ROOMS are very big and spacious and CLEAN and Hygienic. They maintain all kinds of rules and regulations and proper cleaning. Beds are Great, Views are Great, Space and Washrooms are more good than expected.. We were very pleased and humbled by the Kindness and Etiquettes of their team. They offer everything they could and they do their best. They are kind person. It was a 5- STAR experience. Worth every rupee!! Thank You!! We will come again.l!!

This place was cozy and luxurious at the same time . The rooms are very big and the toilet is very clean . The experience here was very good for the first time in the boat house . U can buy a lot of stuffs from the local ppl from here . The food by raeesand riaz (chefs) was very very delicious specially the chicken kabab and chapati . I had an amazing experience of staying at this boathouse. The warmth and hospitality were evident from the moment we arrived. The rooms were cozy and well-equipped with room heater (bukhari) and electric blankets that made the chilly nights incredibly comfortable. The service was excellent and the food was delicious as well.

Coming Srinagar for the first time couldn't be better if this houseboat wouldn't be the first drop of the trip. The quality of service as well as food was way great. It is a must visit if you're visiting Kashmir.

Recently stayed this Houseboat in Dal Lake in Srinagar, and it was an unforgettable experience, especially for a couple traveler. From the moment I arrived, the peaceful ambiance of the lake and the unique charm of the houseboat made me feel at ease.

It was a run down house, no mirror in the toilet, Hand Shower was not working, power cuts as usual. it was like hell. Thanks to Althaf, No more Dal Lake..
