Reviewed Jan 13, 2026This old schoolhouse has been beautifully redesigned. Big rooms with very comfy beds. Well fitted out kitchen with everything needed. Styled and finished to a high standard. Great bathrooms. Big laundry and drying area and a lovely outdoor area which is a shared space. And in a great location close to shops, restaurants and walks.
Lounge doesn't fit 4 comfortably.

Reviewed Jan 5, 2026Unique building, beautifully and cleverly converted into a comfortable accommodation, tastefully furnished and decorated, spotlessly sparkling clean. It is simply an amazing place that one must see in person to appreciate, the pictures don’t tell the full story. All bedrooms with their own bathrooms is a great feature. I can’t recommend strongly enough! I have travelled a lot and this is one of the best places I have stayed. Don’t hesitate to book if available.

We also enjoyed how unique the property was as a historic school house that has been renovated nicely. Especially enjoyed the kitchen.
It's a minor item, but some additional basic cooking supplies (oil and spices) would be nice.

Spotless bathroom with heated floors and towel rack. Good location - under 10 minutes walk to center of Nelson where good options exist for restaurants.
Nothing - great place. Could use another love seta or easy chair in the common area, but that is a minor quibble. Love this place.

Reviewed Oct 8, 2025We absolutely loved the style of the rooms. Traveling as two couples, we had two separate rooms—both were excellent and featured their own ensuites. The kitchen was modern and well-equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We really appreciated the lovely bottle of wine—thank you! Thoughtful extras like the fresh fruit bowl were a nice touch. My sister in law is a teacher so for her to be able to stay at the old school was a real treat. The large TV and great selection of books added to the relaxing atmosphere, and the outdoor area was perfect for sitting out and unwinding. Parking was easy, and the ramp access made moving our luggage a breeze. Close to town so we could walk there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Highly recommend this accommodation!

Reviewed Apr 1, 2025Loved our 2 bedroom apartment! Both rooms were large and had ensuite bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen with access to a sunny internal courtyard. Really comfy lounge and great books to sit and look at. The location is fantastic! Only a short walk to many restaurants and in the centre of town. We met the owner who kindly share the history of this beautiful building and showed us some of the other rooms. I would stay there again at the drop of a hat!

Reviewed Nov 21, 2024Very spacious modern apartment in a restored building. The decor was immaculate & the whole apartment was very well kitted out, especially the kitchen. Electronically the most sophisticated apartment we have stayed in with a switch, button or control panel for everything. Location was great, just off the town centre with ample parking. There was even an outdoor hose to wash the car with!
So given all the above, why not a 10? Well, the other half of the building is a 4 bedroom apartment which not surprisingly can attract groups of friends that like to party as we discovered on our first night with loud music & general noise which detracted from our enjoyment of the property; even worse if the weather had been better & they had used the outside space right next to our apartment's windows. So a stunning apartment vying for the best apartment we stayed in in New Zealand crown but potentially let down if you get similar neighbours

Located close to the centre of town, it is near cafes, shops and a beautiful park. Our stay here was exceptional. You will not be disappointed!
There is nothing not to like. Everything about Hardy Street School House is amazing and of the highest standard.

There's a building site next door which starts work at 8AM. But they can't do much about that!
