I really enjoyed my stay at Blue Maalu Resort. The house has wonderful ocean views, and my room was very clean and comfortable, with no issues with insects. Waranga was incredibly helpful and kind throughout my stay. I unexpectedly needed urgent medical care, and he helped me find a good doctor and arrange the necessary medication. He was always available to help with any questions or requests. He also sometimes organizes complimentary dinners by the ocean, which is such a lovely touch. The breakfasts were excellent everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. I highly recommend Blue Maalu Resort. You are made to feel like a friend rather than just a guest, and Waranga is always happy to help with anything you need, from arranging taxis to recommending and organizing activities. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality. I truly enjoyed my stay and would be happy to come back!

I stayed at Blue Maalu Resort with our two sons and had an unforgettable experience. The host was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. He took us to Turtle Beach, where we saw wild sea turtles in their natural habitat for the first time. It was a magical experience, and our children were so happy. We also visited a beautiful nearby beach for snorkeling and swimming, which we absolutely loved. One afternoon, we went on a Madu River boat safari, and it was amazing. We saw so many birds on the island and enjoyed the peaceful beauty of the river. The breakfast was fresh and delicious every morning, and all the staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. We were very sad to leave this exceptional place. We highly recommend Blue Maalu Resort to anyone looking for a relaxing, authentic, and memorable stay in Sri Lanka. We can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful sea view room with a mini fridge and hair dryer. The highlight of this place is the outstanding hospitality. I traveled around Sri Lanka for 13 days, and this was my final stay—and it was the perfect way to end my trip. As it is currently the off-season, there are fewer tourists, and the prices are very reasonable. The hosts prepared delicious, healthy rice and curry meals, and they also recommended an excellent local Ayurvedic massage center at affordable local prices. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing stay with warm hospitality and great value for money.

The beach was rough during my stay due to the monsoon season, but this is a seasonal weather condition and not specific to the property.

This is a gem of a place - quiet, ocean-front, incredibly chill and with lovely people running it. They cooked curry and rice in the evening which was lovely and incredible value. Really recommend as an alternative to more expensive and busy Hikkaduwa which is only a couple of bucks away in a tuk-tuk. Lovely clean rooms with fridge and a beautiful view over the ocean.

I am a solo traveler, and safety is always my main concern. This place was absolutely wonderful — I felt completely at home from the moment I arrived. Host organized river safari where I saw 5000 more birds at bird island , it was unforgettable experience. This place highlight not luxury hotel but hospitality service was exceptional.

Wat een prachtige en rustige plek aan zee van een hele lieve, vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaar. Uitzicht en zonsondergang vanuit de kamer en tuin zijn adembenemend. Mooie ruime kamer en prima sanitair.

Мені дуже сподобався цей невеличкий готель: тут затишно, стильно і дуже спокійно. Прекрасний вид на океан, особливо з номерів на горі. Всі зручності в номері: душ, кондиціонер, гарна тераса з прекрасним видом. Особливу увагу хочу приділити дворику готелю: чудово обладнане місце, де приємно посидіти попити каву зранку, чи повечеряти ввечері під шум океану. Готель знаходиться не біля дороги, і це ще один великий плюс! Засинати і прокидатися ви будете лише під шум хвиль. Чудові пляжі, де майже не має людей. Привітний персонал, радий завжди допомогти. Тут дбають про кожного свого клієнта. І ну дуже приємна ціна, враховуючи розташування. Автобусна зупинка в 300 метрах, можна легко дістатися на громадському транспорті до цікавих місць, які знаходяться неподалік (пару класних храмів, Галле, черепаховий пляж). Власник готелю також пропонує різноманітні екскурсії по приємних цінах. Я закохалась в це місце! Це саме те, що я шукала, обираючи відпочинок на Шрі Ланці: комфорт, затишок і головне-спокій. Обовʼязково повернуся сюди ще раз.

Ein sehr sauberes Zimmer mit einem unfassbar tollen Ausblick aufs Meer. Die Inhaber sind so herzlich und haben sich sehr um mich gekümmert. Ich habe meinen Aufenthalt daher um zwei Nächte verlängert und wäre gerne auch noch länger geblieben. Vielen Dank für die tolle Zeit.

Even if you’re just sitting looking at the sea view it’s wonderful. I was made to feel so welcome and every need was met. The hosts went above and beyond, including arranging an Ayurvedic massage delivering me and picking me up after, and a bonus boat trip to the nearly beautiful lake to visit a gorgeous temple. His knowledge of what to do in Sri Lanka is vast and genuinely wants to help. And the food… next level, a home cooked Sri Lankan feast, the huge breakfast was spectacular so much fresh fruit. I was there in the quiet season and I loved that the area is not touristy, very friendly locals. I will definitely be coming back!

Es un sitio 10!!! El personal es increíblemente amable, respetuoso y friendly. Nos hicieron un enorme favor dejándonos dejar las mochilas en el alojamiento mientras visitamos Mirissa. Son una gente maravillosa. La ubicación es perfecta, las vistas son increíbles junto al mar y de fondo el fuerte del pueblo, sirven el desayuno con esas maravillosas vistas. Las habitaciones son perfectas, limpias y muy bien decoradas y con vistas al mar. Nos encantó el alojamiento.

I recently stayed at Blue Maalu Hotel and had a truly wonderful experience. The location is unbeatable—right by the ocean. I loved waking up to the stunning sea view and falling asleep to the calming sound of the waves. It was peaceful and perfect for relaxing. The room was clean, cozy, and beautifully decorated. Everything was well taken care of, and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. As a solo traveler, feeling safe is very important to me—and this hotel absolutely delivered. The hosts were not only incredibly friendly, but also made me feel completely at ease and well looked after. Their warm hospitality made a big difference and helped me fully enjoy my trip.

We have travelled much of Sri Lanka and many parts of Asia and we would have to say that this is the first property we have stayed at that is true to its photos on Booking.com Everything was as promoted and better, staff, room, comfort etc and Waranga even came to meet us at the bus station at night.

Amazing house next to a beach in a untouristy area:) the stay was one of my highlights during my one month sri lanka trip! The rooms are comfortable and you can enjoy a great breakfast looking at the ocean. I also loved the activities (boat safari, scooter rental, temples, waterfall, local dinner) i did around the area with the great help of waranga. Thanks again for the amazing time:)

A bit noisy due to nearby railway, but that’s very common.

Directly at the beach, in a calm not touristy area. The room is amazing and you can even see the ocean from the bathroom. Hosts provide a super delicious breakfast and even took us on a boat safari where you could see many birds.

Nothing but maybe important about the beach: Sometimes the waves were too high/current too strong to go in the water completely.

Everything, could not fault it. Great location, perfect room, excellent breakfast, and Waranga is a great host. Would have loved to have stayed longer but it was fully booked.

Beautiful room with comfortable bed and sea view. The host even brought us to the city ventre and showed us a temple. Breakfast is great. 100% recommend.

The accommodation is right in front of a local beach that you can enjoy basically all to yourself. The accommodation itself is a very nice and cozy homestay, newly renovated rooms with a large shared balcony (two rooms) You have a long (1.5-2km) beach just 500m from the accommodation, this beach too almost completely empty. Did daily beach walks here. The people who run the accommodation are super super nice, today I call them my friends. They take care of you and recommend places you can/should visit. If you want to be alone, you can be very undisturbed, if you want to be social, they are very social and hospitable! Sometimes lunch or dinner is served at the accommodation, I accepted every time it was offered, best food I ate in Ambalangoda! Also take the opportunity to let Anjala (neighbor) sew clothes for you. Cool to get stylish local garments that are also super comfortable and adapted to the climate. Stayed 4 weeks here, had planned to travel around Sri Lanka a bit but enjoyed myself so much stayed at Blue Maalu for the whole stay. Could easily have stayed another 4 weeks, can't wait to visit the same place again!!!!

Loved everything!

Resort itself, host, staff and good location (close to the city, but at the same time very peaceful) is definitely 10/10. Beautiful sunsets, room cleaning every day, delicious breakfast, very friendly host that does for your stay way more than he should 😊 Host and all other staff puts so much effort in little details to make your stay memorable (like fresh flowers on your patio table every morning). To sum up: perfect place near the sea with wonderful people around. Thanks a lot for everything, Waranga and the rest of your team! ✌️

The stay was too short (if it’s not other booking, we would have stayed longer 😔).

First stay in Sri Lanka and the high standard was set! The host was very kind, he picked up me from the airport at night and provided everything I needed on the arrival (there was problems with internet at night, so he gave me his SIM card to use). The breakfast was very delicious every single morning, and the portions were really big. The room itself was a newly renovated room with king size bed, AC, shower and toilet. He even gave me a upgrade to a bigger room FREE OF CHARGE! Hospitality was on another level, any problem I had was solved within minutes and the owner was always one text away. I highly recommend this for everyone who want a 5 star hotel experience without a 5 star hotel price tag. You will not regret it. Trust me.

Our stay at Blue Maalu Resort and was an exceptional experience. The property is incredibly clean and modern, with all new furniture since it was built in July 2024. Its prime location right next to the seaside promenade offers stunning beach views, allowing you to see and hear the waves all night long, which is truly relaxing. The host, Waranga, was always available to help and went above and beyond to fulfill all our wishes. He even provided us with everything we needed to enjoy the fruits we bought on the road.

I couldn't find any negatives during our stay.

Place and ppl was so friendly and caring. Helped in every way to comfort us. Very nice and comfortable stay. Very clean and modern rooms. The path from road to hotel bit complicated. But hotel arranged parking and supported keep vehicle safely. For backpackers this place is ideal!
