Senaka and his family were very kind; they welcomed me as part of the family. Senaka also showed me around and shared his wisdom. I recommend this place to all travelers looking to broaden their horizons
I had a great time at Serenity house, Seneka is very welcoming, and so his family is. Seneka also brought me for a walk on a mountain close to the accomodation and went with me to the cave temples. He also helped organise a trip to Sigirya. He taught me a lot about Buddhism which was super interesting. Also, his wife Lalitha cooks amazing food.
If you are looking for authentic, simple accomodation with a beautiful extended family this is the place to be. Seneca and his family could not do enough to make us comfortable and we were truly made to feel part of the family. The house is quite difficult to find and on a family compound, if you take the road to the caves (which are in easy walking distance) , turn left and Serenity lodge is in the first entrance in the left. Or ask for Seneca he is a real character and everyone knows him, he also offers meditation and healing treatments. It it great value for money and a unique experience Thank you Seneca and your family for your welcome and hospitality ✌🏻 ❤️
It was truly a pleasure to be welcomed by this lovely Sri Lankan family, living surrounded by greenery just outside the city, near the caves. The house is full of life, with children, cousins, nieces, aunts… and even a newborn just 14 days old! It was a genuine and very enjoyable experience. Unforgettable also was Senaca's wisdom, kindness and Senaca's friend, who made us laugh so much with his great sense of humor. The guest room is truly unique: built in a tree, it offers a simple but special stay. If you're not looking for luxury but want to experience something different and get to know a wonderful local family, this is the perfect place
The owner is absolutely wonderful. He makes sure your every need is met and will also give you great life advice. His wife prepares amazing food every day and tea is readaly availabe. We arrived in the middle of the night (3 am) and the owner was there to accomodate us. The location is also great as you have quick access to the buddist cave temples.
The shower hygene. It is run down and has a lot of mold, when we were there was no warm water, as a monkey had damaged the shower a couple of days earlier.
We felt like home. It's a lovely place and family.
Seneca the host is an extraordinary guy, full of happiness and magnificient skills :) The family is more than welcoming and the food is a culinary delight! When you're looking to be part of a Sri Lankan family and experience true village life in a lush garden, then this is the place to be! Thank you so much!!!
I came as traveller-I left as a family. I left this place very sad. I had amazing time here-it feels like green oasis with a lot of animals to observe. Lalita was cooking the best food I ever tried in Sri Lanka. Even if it was raining all the time I had time to relax with my books, observing relaxing life of Seneka’s family and feeling true Sri Lankan hospitality. Very loving, caring and amazing people. I will be back❤️
Staying in Serenity House wasn't just another tourist stop on our Sri Lankan adventure. It was a very special stay with a beautiful, caring family that will make you feel right at home. Amma's cooking is legendary and Seneka will do everything to make you feel comfortable, and if you're lucky, he will show you little secrets of Dambulla that are not easily accessible to just anybody. What needs to be noted is that, although you have your privacy, you do become a part of a very communal living. It might not be for everyone, especially those who value their creature comforts and luxury stays when travelling. But for us, it was perfect and we absolutely loved our stay there 💜
Senaka and his family are so welcoming and made us feel like part of the family. So kind and generous. We wish we could have stayed there longer, it was so relaxing and felt like home. Walking distance to the rock temple. Lots of bird life action from the porch. Would come back!
Could have better directions to get there, was hard to find (get the tuk tuk driver to call Senaka)...so worth it when we did find it :)
Serenity house is a very special place with very special people. Seneca is a great host who looks well after his guests. He has an extended family and they're always around; so it's very lively there. You get a good idea how it is to live in a Srilankan family. There is no wifi but this can also be a relieve, a digital detox. I advised my host to provide some bicycle(s) for his guests. At least, that's what I like to explore the area.
This is a great place: but it's not for everyone, if you're looking for creature comforts this is not for you, it's more like commune living, choose wisely!
Amazing place to stay in Dambulla. Really nice, hospitable people there, I liked the vibe. And very good homemade breakfast
For those who want an authentic Sri Lanka homestay, this is it! Senaka and his family live outside of dambulla town centre and near the temple- 15 minute walk away. The property is amongst his extended family also so you really feel like you've entered a small Sri Lankan village. My short time there was fab- this man is so kind to nature, animals and his surroundings. We went on an evening hike to meditate and watch the sunset and his partner cooked amazing food for me. The accomodation is like a tree house and you can sit in a private area there overlooking the garden or spend time with them in theirs. Great shower and toilet which are shared with the family Come with an open mind and you won't regret this opportunity!

Really awesome
Mainly the family
Although a short stay, Seneka sir and his family welcomed me with open arms. They are very warm and loving human beings. I got a taste of true Sri Lankan hospitality here. It is a treat for sure! If you are looking for easy access to Dambulla Temple and Sigiriya (which can be easily arranged from here by the way), a peaceful environment, enjoy nature, and love to know more about the people of this wonderful country, you should choose Serenity. The tree house itself has been built by the host. Do not expect luxury here, just go with an open mind, and try to breathe in the lap of nature. Life is slow and easy. Plenty to learn from Buddha's teaching. There is love and happiness in every corner. Something that's easy to forget living a city life. Highly recommended! I hope to be back.
Nothing
Senaka and his family where the most friendly hosts we have ever stayed with. They made us feel like we were at home. Cooking delicious traditional food whenever we liked (and sometimes even when we didn’t ask haha) and providing tea free of charge at regular intervals. Senaka assisted us with everything and walked us places we wanted to go making sure we were never put out. The treehouse enables you to be apart of nature and you will be surrounded by monkeys and mangos. A truly wonderful stay at a very small price. We will be back again to visit our new friends.
Nothing
It's nature place, true people around, around nature , trees, good for meditation, or retreat place, very calm and people around Buddhist, so they very friendly and kind and honest with you. Best place for be with yourself and nature. Stuff will be like family for you. They will feed you cheap or even free. Very close all facilities around. It's nature true house.
