Black Panther Yala

We stayed at Black Panther Yala for one night & did a half day safari with them. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and very very helpful when planning our safari. We got reports every evening leading up to our safari with animal sightings and reports from their safari guide. We had a wonderful Safari experience and got to see a leopard right in front of our jeep, they did such a great job planning that excursion for us. Our room was also very comfortable for one night. Another highlight of our stay here was the included dinner, it was delicious! We had an amazing home cooked meal of Sri Lankan curries and rice, as well as dessert.

This is a must stay if you are visiting Yala. The property and rooms are really clean and tidy. However, it was the owner and his family that made this stay so enjoyable. From organising an amazing safari to making us two yummy dinners he even had bikes we could use to explore the area.

Die Inhaber waren sehr freundlich und wir haben in ganz Sri Lanka keine sauberere Unterkunft während unserer 3,5 Wochen Urlaub vorgefunden. Das Abendessen war abwechslungsreich und sehr lecker. Es wurden uns nicht nur die üblichen srilankesischen Gerichte serviert . Der Vermieter hat uns einen tollen Führer für unsere Safari vermittelt. Er verfügte über viel Fachwissen. Im Yala Nationalpark kannte er sich vorzüglich aus, so dass wir sensationelle zwei Leoparden sehen konnten. Unsere Tochter war leider krank, als wir uns dort befanden und er und seine Frau haben sie sehr liebevoll mit Tee etc. versorgt.

La struttura gode di un’ottima posizione per visitare i laghetti popolati da uccelli, coccodrilli e pipistrelli, un’esperienza naturale davvero suggestiva. La camera era molto bella; avevo prenotato per errore quella senza aria condizionata, ma il proprietario mi ha gentilmente offerto un upgrade gratuito. La cena, preparata dalla moglie del proprietario, è stata ottima e autenticamente locale, un vero tuffo nei sapori del posto. La colazione, abbondante e ricca di prodotti tipici, ha reso la partenza della giornata ancora più piacevole. Infine, lo staff è stato estremamente gentile e accogliente: la sensazione era quella di trovarsi a casa.

Nous avons passé deux très bonnes nuits dans cet établissement. Nos hôtes extrêmement gentils, font tout pour nous simplifier l'organisation du séjour, et des safaris. Des vélos sont à disposition pour visiter des environs. Pour couronner le tout, la cuisine est excellente !

El propietario del alojamiento es todo un anfitrión. Desde el primer momento nos ayudó en todo. Él mismo nos reservó el safari con un conductor excelente. Nos recibieron con un zumo súper bueno y tanto él como su mujer fueron súper amables. La cena incluida en la reserva fue todo un detalle. El sitio muy bonito. Sin duda, recomiendo este alojamiento.

Une famille très accueillante qui répondra à toute vos questions. Guesthouse très bien situé (á côté d’un lac). Prêt de vélo pour visiter la ville et sa très belle campagne. Les dîners préparés le soir sont á l’image de l’accueil : généreux et délicieux. Nous y avons passé un très bon moment et nous recommandons bien sûr ce logement. Encore merci.

La chambre avait tous les équipements nécessaires, climatisation, télé, étendoir. L’emplacement est idéal jusqu’au bout de la rue. Il y a un lac et l’établissement met des vélos gratuitement à disposition quand vous permettent de vous balader dans les alentours, l’endroit est magnifique. Et les propriétaires de l’hôtel sont aux petits soins. Ils ont répondu à toutes mes attentes m’ont désorganisé mon Safari a yala ainsi que mon départ vers Tangalle. Et pour finir il y a le repas qui est inclus et il était vraiment excellent.

Uno tra i posti migliori in cui abbiamo soggiornato! Stanza spaziosa, pulitissima, dotata di tutti i comfort di cui avevamo bisogno. Cena deliziosa a base di prodotti locali. I proprietari gentilissimi e disponibili, ci hanno dato tutte le informazioni necessarie al fine di scegliere l'opzione migliore per noi per visitare Yala, al termine dell'escursione ci hanno lasciato la camera per un paio d'ore nonostante l'orario di check-out fosse stato abbondantemente superato.

Nalin will go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, he just wants everything to be nice for his guests. I told him I was craving a dosa, and he asked his wife to make me some for dinner my 2nd night, wildly kind AND delicious! The lake closest to the property (debarawewe) is sooooo beautiful and peaceful to go around, tissa lake was meh for me personally as it was much more chaotic, but the flying fox colony was neat to see. Bed was comfortable, pillows were comfortable, great water pressure in the shower. Would recommend in a heart beat.

Wifi is not great.

这是我们斯里兰卡之行最满意的民宿，房东一家人谦和有礼，为入住的客人提供五星级的服务，真正做到了宾至如归。1、房间打扫的非常干净，一尘不染，在抵达前，房东会将房间设施如实告知，非常诚信。2、在我们入住期间房东有求必应，为我们免费提供了望远镜、自行车甚至针线包，以及详细的周边旅游攻略及价格合理的野生动物园之旅。3、最令人难忘的是房东太太做的晚餐，味道非常之好超过了兰卡的很多餐厅，且会提前了解客人的口味和饮食禁忌，每天的菜品和甜品都会变换（餐费包含在房费中）。我先生不能吃甜食， 去雅拉safari的那天早晨4点多房东为他准备了专门的早餐，非常感谢。4、在我们走的那天，房东又安排突突车司机送我们到车站，并把我们送上车。 感谢房东一家人，让我们在雅拉度过了非常美好的两天，非常推荐这家民宿，性价比超高。Tissa是一个美丽休闲的小镇，值得住两天。

The amazing hospitality by the hosts, who were helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and local history. They also organised a safari to Yala national park on request. The dinners they cooked for us were beautiful, made with seasonal ingredients and personalised based on our requirements. The rooms were clean and tidy.

EXcellent knowledgeable host who gave us reliable information. He lent us bikes for an afternoon ride around the lakes, organised a safari tour for us and advised us on bus timetables. Dinner was included in the price, both nights the food was superb with a lot of care and attention. Air conditioning worked well, and the wifi was good. Nice clean bathroom and good hot shower. We would recommend this place.

The room was a little bit small, a slightly tight fit to get around the bed.

La cena incluida estuvo muy buena y el señor se preocupó de preguntarnos por alergias, intolerancias y preferencias. Incluso se despertó a las 4 de la mañana para despedirnos cuando íbamos al safari, ofreciéndonos la mejor opción. Nos dejó sus bicicletas para recorrer el pueblo, nos ayudó a organizar los traslados. Great service, at Black Panther Yala they really take care of you. The host arranged the safari for us and he booked it with an expert guide: we were 5th in line to get into the park and our guide was amazing! The room respects high cleaning standards and is very nice.

La habitación y el alojamiento estaban limpísimos y perfectamente aislados para que no entrara ningún insecto (es el único hotel en el que hemos estado en Sri Lanka en el que no han entrado bichos). Baño con agua caliente y secador. El dueño ha sido muy amable y por el precio de la reserva nos incluyó zumos de bienvenida y cena y nos dejó alargar el check out sin ningún problema para poder ducharnos y descansar después del Safari ya que los siguientes huéspedes entraban por la tarde. Totalmente recomendable!

We have chosen this accommodation to go to Yala park for a safari and it was an amazing surprise. The host family took care about us in every aspect of our stay. The room was perfectly cleaned and they offered us an amazing Sri Lankan dinner. Also the surrounding area full of culture, history and animals!

Mi è dispiaciuto poter stare solamente una notte perché mi sono trovata molto bene! Il proprietario è una persona molto gentile, disponibile e simpatica. La camera è pulita, dotata di tutti i comfort come sapone, ciabatte, phon, asciugamani pulite. Finalmente una stanza dove in bagno è presente una zanzariera, a differenza di tutti i posti in cui sono stata finora. Tutto molto pulito e ordinato, anche la cena lì è stata meravigliosa. Staying here was an unforgettable experience thanks to the incredible hospitality of Nalin and his family. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and cared for. The place was spotless, and the included dinner was absolutely amazing, honestly the best food I’ve had during my trip. I had an issue with my left eye, which was swollen and painful, Nalin kindly took me to the doctor for a check up, which meant so much, especially as I was traveling alone. I can’t recommend this place enough. Nalin and his family are truly wonderful!

Amazing trip, and our host made it extra special - before we even arrived he helped to organise our safari, was flexible with check in and check out times and provided wonderful food and a great room which far exceeded our expectations. The local area (lakes) were amazing, and he helped us make the most of our time there.

Word cannot express how grateful we are to Nalin and Isharni for welcoming us into their home during Sinhalese New Year. Staying at Black Panther Yala was the absolute highlight of our two weeks in Sri Lanka. It was such a special weekend where we learnt/ate traditional food (e.g. oil cake), participated in the rituals and traditions and met the neighbours and relatives. The room was comfortable and the food delicious. Dinner included is such a rare treat. The location is lovely, set next to the wetlands. You can borrow bike and ride around the area. We did a safari through a driver that our host recommended and it was amazing. I would highly recommend Black Panther to anyone!

Words cannot really express how kind and accommodating Nalin and his family were. They did so much beyond expectations to make our stay perfect. We had to stay an extra day due to sickness and from getting medication from the pharmacy, arranging everything we needed no matter what and just generally being very interesting and keen to learn about other cultures in a completely comfortable and non intrusive manner it was superb. Been to Sri Lanka many times and mat so many kind Sri Lankans but Nalin clearly stands out. The rooms were spotless, no smell of damp (which can happen due to humidity in some places), we had the room of AC which was lovely, but a family member had a non ac room which was comfortable with the fans provided. Food was superb and they will arrange ahead of any dietary requirements. It was an honour to stay there and have the please of such good hospitality. I can see why this is 10/10 and 5* on Google! Also ask ahead about Safari and what animals you want to see and the type of trip you want because Yalla can be quite hectic and Nalin will help a lot. We arranged a tour beforehand which was good but it would have been better to have had some local knowledge prior to this as the Safari was quite hectic.

The host is a super nice and warm family. The man took fantastic care of me beyond my expectations and organized everything seamlessly for me, so that I had a relaxed safari and transfer to the next town. The wife cooked delicious meals for me in the evening according to my preferences. The kids are really good mannered and also really cute! The accommodation is very clean, cozy and everything worked perfectly.

This hotel was amazing. Nice and clean room with a pleasant smell. Very nice family. From the time we arrived till we left you feel so comfortable with them , make you feel like you are at home. A nice and fresh watermelon juice on arrival as a welcome drink .The food was delicious. They offer bicycles for free and let us use the washing machine.The organised safari was amazing. He also organised a tuktuk for us to take us to the bus stop to continue our next destination for Ella after morning safari. We recommend this accommodation.

It was really nice. The surroundings of the hotel were amazing, the owner explained everything so we didn’t miss a thing. We walked around the both lakes near the hotel and saw crocodiles, all kind of birds, etc. the property es super clean and they serve you coffee and tea whenever you want. The owner and his family were really kind, it shows how much they care a about everyone having a good stance. Really friendly, we really liked talking with them. Also no words for the amazing food they cooked. Really nice experience.

The owner is a fantastic man, he was very attentive and respectful. He helped organise transport to Yala and then from Yala, as well as our Safari. He got an excellent Safari driver, which is the key to a good Safari experience. The room was lovely, and dinners were brilliant too. The area has a lake nearby and the locals who live nearby are so welcoming and friendly. I wish we had stayed longer.

Nalin and his family are tremendous hosts and really generous, kind people, going above and beyond to help us organise things. Nalin helped us to book our safari, lent us two bikes to ride around the beautiful local area, and cooked us a delicious homemade evening meal. The room was very comfortable, clean, and the photos don't do it justice - it was much bigger than expected!

Nalin was an amazing host! He received us with open arms even if we checked in super early. We couldn't have asked for more! The hotel itself is very well taken care of and super clean.

Enjoyed everything

Nalin and his wife are AMAZING. The accomodation is AMAZING. They took such great care of my partner and I and they have a great enthusiasm for sharing knowledge about Sri Lanka and their town. I can't recommend this gem highly enough. The rooms are a good size, so clean and beautiful bathroom. Black Panther is private and quiet and feels like a little oasis. His wife is a brilliant cook and we had one of the best meals in three weeks! The surrounding area is beautiful with much wildlife that Nalin will show you. Temples and the town are nearby. We booked our safari through Nalin and it was so easy and a good price. We wish we had stayed longer.

Nalin was the best gost I had in Sri Lanka - so helpful, friendly, hospitable. I originally booked this place for the safari, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was to explore nearby. Beautiful lakes, jungles, temples, a bat viewpoint, and plenty of nature… Nalin also provided me with a bicycle, making it easy to explore the surroundings. The dinner prepared by Nalin’s wife was absolutely delicious. The room had everything I needed. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to nature lovers!

We had an unforgettable experience! The hosts were incredibly kind and friendly, truly deserving of a 10+. The room was spotless and the bed was super comfortable, ensuring a restful stay. The dinner that was included was absolutely delicious, and we savored every bite. We felt like we were in paradise during our stay, surrounded by beauty and tranquility. The hosts even provided bicycles, which allowed us to explore the area at our own pace. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Highly highly recommend this place! It is run by the kindest family who truly just go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect. The owner welcomed us with welcome drinks as soon as we arrived and gave us in depth information about the area and what we can visit and see. We were then served a delicious dinner with dessert all included in the price. The room is very clean and comfortable with everything you could need. We went on our safari the next day, which he organised for us, and he woke up at 3am just to make us coffee before and ensure we were given the best seats when picked up! When we returned we were given another welcome drink and allowed to stay as long as we needed, giving us time to shower and wash our clothes. It was also a public holiday so all the restaurants were closed, but he drove to the nearest open bakery and picked us up food for lunch. Everything they did was without ask - truly just amazing people.

The absolute BEST place we stayed during our month long travel around Sri Lanka! It's understandable why Black Panther has only 10/10 reviews! They deserve it! - Room and bathroom were immaculately clean. - The bed was big, long and comfortable. The sheets were super soft and the pillows perfect. Everything felt brand new. - The A/C and ceiling fan both worked very well. - Drying rack provided in the room. - Flat screen TV with English and Sports channels available. - Water heater in the shower. - Dinner and desserts were different and delicious each evening. - Property is gated. It is off the main road so it was quiet at night and we slept great. - Free bicycles to use. - The safaris we booked with them were amazing! The breakfast/lunch/snacks/fruit/bottles of water the home-stay provided for these was unbelievable and way more than we could eat. They also provided us with binoculars which were definitely appreciated. The owners were beyond kind and helpful with everything and anything needed. They made us feel so welcome and comfortable and it felt like they truly only wanted the best stay/safaris/meals/everything for us. The information and all the different things to do and see in Tissamaharama they provided all turned out to be incredible and places we'll never forget. We definitely recommend staying here!!!

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

The best stay in Sri Lanka so far. Owners are very kind and amazing people, they do everything to make your stay comfortable. Room was super clean, it had comfy bed, good towels etc. all you need for good stay. Location is few minutes by foot to the lake where you can observe many spices of birds and also crocodile or buffalos. Our stay included dinners and it was the most delicious dinner during our trip around Sri Lanka. Owners even allowed us to use washing machine for free :). If you make Safari, jeep will pick up you from that location so no worries. You can also take a bicycle to have a ride around lakes.

We had the best stay at Black Panther! Nalin is the kindest person ever and so helpful with everything! He took us around and spotted some super nice birds. He was really knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about them. He also helped with organizing a safari to Yala where we had a great time :) Also the rest of the family is so nice and the dinner we had was absolutely delicious, one of the best we had so far! The rooms are further really spacious and clean, felt really comfortable! We will definitely come back!

Food was incredible, one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka. Nice selection of curries, the centella asiatica curry in particular was very nice. Dessert was also really nice, curd with cinnamon honey. The breakfast supplied for the safari was also delicious, very big portions and the fresh fruit was amazing. Host is incredibly kind and generous. Allowed us to extend our stay by a few hours so we could get cleaned up after the safari. Had great conversations with the host as well. Cannot recommend staying at Black Panther Yala enough.

I feel very lucky to stay at Nalin’s place. I highly recommend it! It was the best place during my trip. The room was very clean, the mattress was comfortable. We got 5 star service here. Nalin was very kind and nice, prepared everything I asked for, hot water for shower, fruit and blanket. He also brought us to see sunrise, visit 4 beautiful lakes and local temples, and introduced birds. He has very rich bird knowledge. We even saw swimming crocodile in a lake! His wife cooks so well! We had super delicious homemade dinner. I really love it! Nalin also helped us book a safari, and we saw leopard, bear, and many other animals.

EVERYTHING! Can't stop saying nice things about this property and the owner. The cleanest rooms, welcoming owner, the dinner they serve is also amazing and richer than the restaurants offer. He also has bikes you can borrow to stroll around the lakes, he offers you tea and coffee during the day, he lends you binoculars...one evening they spotted this cute owl near the property and he called us if we wanted to come see it...just soooo attentive, I wish we could stay there longer! Oh and the driver he recommended for the Yala safari was also great.

I made a booking here after I have read all the amazing reviews and I’m so glad I did. Nalin is such a nice person and just an amazing host! He contacted us after booking and we always stayed in touch. He was happy to help us with anything we needed and always provided with great tips and info. We were really touched with his hospitality. They cooked a great dinner just was for us that was included in the stay and it was soo good! Their house is beautiful, new, very clean. WiFi worked good. They even met us with welcome drinks and Nalin woke up at 4am to make a tea before our safari. Tissa itself is so beautiful town that is really worth visiting not only for Yala. We wish we could stay longer, we hope to come back again! Thank you very much Nalin 😊

Best guest house owner you will ever come across. Don’t hesitate and booked this stay! Nalin and his family not only provided dinner and breakfast, but also organized an amazing half day safari for me and on top of that showed me around the local lakes and nature. It’s a breathtaking environment you don’t want to miss!

Without a doubt the best accommodation where we stayed for 28 days in Sri Lanka. As already mentioned in other reviews, we felt that we were in a 5* hotel, from the people, to the accommodation, the cleanliness, the food and the attention to detail, everything was perfect. Black Panther is the reason I like to stay in well run family hotels. Exceptional service! I’m not exaggerating. We stayed at a 5star hotel in Ella prior for 2nights and the service provided by the owner Nalin is comparable or better as he will personally cater to your needs as requested. The place is clean, the room we stayed in was a good size, had a clean comfortable bed, shower has hot water, good air conditioning kept room at perfect temp, and strong WiFi throughout the whole property. Food prepared by Nalin and his wife is delicious. Also the hotel is located close to Debarawewa lake which is full of birds and saw several crocodiles along the edge of the lake. Tissa lake with even more birds and fruit bats is a short tuk tuk ride away which the host can arrange. Great communication via Whatsup before arrival. Host can arrange transportation from Ella or Mirissa for a fair price as well.

The host and family were so warm welcoming and friendly. He made sure we had everything we need. The dinner which is included in the price was the best Sri Lankan food we had eaten in our 20 days in the country. Ali explained everything to us, what was in the dishes and how they were cooked. It was delicious. The rooms were clean and spacious. There is good sit out space. He brought us tea in the afternoon. I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you for making us so welcome.

This was by far the best home stay experience in Sri Lanka! Nalin and his family are so nice, the dinners are huge and are a delicious variety of local Sri Lankan food. The rooms are comfortable and located within 5 min walk to a beautiful lake. An absolutely great experience with incredibly hosts. Nalin’s customer service is nothing short of amazing. It’s difficult to find the words for Nalin as a host… Not only does he take care of every last detail to make sure you feel truly special as a guest, but he will go out of his way to assist and help you with everything he can. In our case, we arrived late and he had the most amazing banquet Sri Lankan dinner prepared for us, we felt like we were in a fine dining luxury meal tasting. Nalin had organized us a Safari for the next morning with ensuring us a great driver, the best seats, and packed us the best breakfast to take with us. He even made us coffee at 4am!!! After the Safari Nalin’s wife brought us a fresh fruit juice, Nalin madr us coffee, and then took us around his town to visit several lakes, see crocodiles, meet a lot of his family, and even took us to a Buddhist temple. During the whole stay Nalin never ceased to astonish us with his patience and attention to detail, while teaching us so much knowledge about Sri lankan history, culture, flora & fauna, Buddhism, etc. Honestly, it is impossible to do better. Rest assured that staying at Black Panther will be one of the best experiences of your journey :):

Beautiful place and beautiful people. We had a very warm welcome, with a rich dinner of local cousine. The room and bathroom were really clean and the bed very comfortable. We were also impressed by how clean and well-maintained the exterior was. They also had flexible check out, and in addition, delicious refreshment drinks were waiting for us after the safari. Nothing we didn't like, maybe if you don't have your own transportation (we had a tuktuk) less ideal location because not within walking distance of centre. On the other hand nature closeby, so a trade off

The owner is a very polite and helpful man. He responded to questions and concerns very quickly and comprehensively. He helps with finding a good company for a safari and transport to other places. The rooms are clean and good. The included dinner was incredibly delicious.

Probably the best stay I have had in Sri Lanka, owner is a great guy, with so much knowledge of the area and history. The service is exceptional, i could wash my clothes for free, also gave free water and cold juices, and organised a safari. His wife cooks amazing food with great portions! I also had breakfast which isn’t included but a great price for what you get. Dinner is included and was amazing. Room and bathroom was very clean. He also took me to the bus stop and told me which bus to get on! Location is good- short walk from a nice lake. Room even had a TV and wifi works well!

We had the most incredible stay here at Black Panther. Nalin, his wife and his family are all so friendly and made us feel right at home. Nalin was extremely helpful and accomodating. He arranged the most amazing safari in Yala for us and ensured we had a fantastic driver, which allowed us to have the best experience possible. He also helped to book us onto one of the buses for our journey onto Ella, which was very helpful. What stood out the most was the absolutely delicious dinner and breakfast cooked by Nalin's wife - definitely some of the best and most authentic Sri Lankan food we've eaten!!! We couldn't be more thankful for our stay here and would definitely recommend everyone to stay here during your trip to Yala!

We loved everything about our stay with Nalin and his family at Black Panther. From the minute we walked through the door, we were treated like family and they went above and beyond to help make our stay the best possible. The home cooked dinners everyday were a particular highlight, with plenty of choice and delicious treats to choose from. The room was spacious and super clean and comfortable. One of us was ill during our stay, and Nalin went out of his way to make us comfortable and make sure we had medicine and more. We also enjoyed a walking safari and outside dinner organised by Nalin, where we were joined by local guides who took us on a tour of the forest and even showed us some local cooking. It was really interesting and a lot of fun. Nalin and his family gave us the best stay in Yala and we hope to come back one day!

Our host was very nice and so helpful! He organized the safari to Yala for us with a breakfast, lunch and a snack. His wife made dinner for us and it was very tasty local food. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Nalin was an AMAZING host!! He did everything possible to ensure we had a good stay, his property is clean and comfortable and his wife made us some of the best food we’ve had so far in Sri Lanka. He also organised our safari ahead of time with an excellent guide and sent us off with the biggest breakfast too. He also picked us up from the bus and helped us get to our next destination. Everything was perfect - from the organisation to communication to the accommodation itself. Very clean, new and pretty rooms! Bed is super comfortable and one big plus was discovery channel. Mr. Nalin and his family are very welcoming and super kind. He organised our (amazing!) safari, picked us up and helped us to get to our bus stop. The included dinner is extraordinary, his wife is an excellent cook and the meals are rich in flavours and ingredients from local markets. We also learned a lot about the food and cooking, because Mr. Nalin was so kind to explain all the different food. We had additional breakfast and lunch for the day after our safari and it was a very big portion of super tasty food for a fair price. I really liked how they always made sure to serve different food, so we could try a lot of different things. And on the day of the safari he served us tea early in the morning and his wife prepared a huge breakfast for the safari! He helped us with all the questions we had and even showed us on the map places in Sri Lanka, which are well worth a visit! We can definitely recommend black panther and hope to come again one day!

The room and the whole homestay was incredably clean. Nalin was a great host, we got a welcome drink and the dinner which is included in the cheap price was amazing. Best food we had so far. A great value for the money. Since I read in the reviews that you can book a Safari Tour through the homestay I texted Nalin already before arrival and he organisied a great driver who was animalfriendly and cheap (7hour half-day-tour was 19.000 p.p). On top Nalin woke up before us and prepared breakfast for us that we took on the tour, it was so much food that it was hard work to finish all of it and it was also included in the Safari price. Absolutely recommend staying at this place.

Exceeded any expectation we could have had on every level, and really was so much more! An experience in and of itself!! Nalin and his wife and their two adorable boys were a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. Beautiful people so willing to offer above and beyond service, and something even harder to find- a truly Sri Lankan experience! I certainly don’t want to promise than Nalin and his friends will always have the time and availability to take others to monasteries and numerous caves for Buddhist meditation, some with impeccable views. And they’re def a hike up! And I think some of these experience they shared were built upon a sincere desire and appreciation for Buddhism and meditation, and my actively wanting to meditate. The first night we came, we went with two french gals who were staying at Black Panther Yala to a monastery and hiked up to a big open cave, and after I was able to meditate with a monk chanting down at the main shrine. I think a big part of what worked out for many of these experiences was timing. The next day we were able to go in the morning with Nalin and his wife to bring food to a monk with them, who they offer food to twice a month. It was very key to be respectful and wear respectful clothing, and ask about the customs and follow Nalin’s instruction. And to have a sincere and genuine interest in learning about Sri Lankan culture and Buddhism. Let me be clear that I think BlackPanther is a lovely place to stay- with new, nice, very clean AC rooms with the grounds all well kept. And Nalin will help arrange a safari, and they’ll make amazing breakfast, and you’ll be in an ideal spot we found to walk the local streets that are clam. It’s a nice area to walk and cycle- and to see the local crocodiles in the lake and the fruit bats and the water monitors, etc. I think it’s a great place for anyone to stay, regardless of interest in culture and Buddhism, cooking and/or meditation.

Everything was beyond wonderful. Maybe some citronella candles in park mosquito season for dining could be a nice addition, but that would help at any hotel. It’s all lovely.

This is a new accomodation, we had such a great time staying! The host goes great lengths to make sure you have everything you need. He arranged our safari to Yala NP (we saw a leopard thanks to our driver!), pick up and drop off to our busstop and his wife cooked the most amazing dinner we had so far in Sri Lanka! Beds and room very comfy and clean. Nice outside area to hangout. Just outside the accommodation it's also a nice neighbourhood and it's very close to a beautiful lake where you can take a nice walk, so many animals and very friendly people.

Extremely enthusiastic owner ready to bend over backwards to make the client happy. Able to arrange safari trips, scooter rentals, take you to bus station etc. Excellent home cooked dinner by owner's wife, a true masterchef, food for two could feed six, worth the value of the stay alone. Awesome Welcome & Farewell drinks, take away breakfast ready at 5:30 for our early morning safari trip, couldn't ask for more. Would rate 11 out of 10!!
