Heel leuke, aesthetic plaats met super lekker eten!
Het was wel wat verder weg van alles. Je moest een Tuktuk nemen om het centrum te bereiken.
The design of the room
The decoration of the room is really good, but the hygiene is really poor no one helping from the staff bad experience . Too much insects entering the room.
the banana bread was amazing! very accommodating staff and owners are friendly and passionate about what they do and Sri Lanka is just a vibe also! They have a shop on site as well and the food is lovely
Great location, on site cafe, spacious rooms and balcony. The owners were very helpful with local suggestions and recommendations. Will definitely come back again.
While it's a small hotel with just 3 rooms, the cafe and pool which has public access makes it quite busy and loud. If you want to sleep in and have a quiet day it's a bit inconvenient. Also, the rooms could be cleaned more especially around the lights and the bathroom blinds which were dusty.
Everything was tranquil and peaceful! Food, location and people were fantastic.
Nothing 😃
Black Honey is the perfect get away in a quiet location. The coffee shop was also a lovely touch, being able to grab a morning coffee and croissant on the go. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We would definitely come back again. Thank you to Jane who was also a huge help whilst we were there! ❤️
Room was great and food was delicious in the cafe
No reception no communication with staff booking.com manager doesn’t replies to text on time after 4pm it feels like a dead place
Everything about Black Honey was excellent. The room was very comfortable and well designed with huge sliding doors connecting to the balcony overlooking the paddy fields; a real bonus with its fridge & kitchenette. The pool was cleaned daily. The location away from the busy centre of Ahangama was peaceful, and the wifi was super fast (I did have to do some work!) The food and coffee was some of the best I had in Sri Lanka. The staff and hosts were great, I’d highly recommend staying here.
We loved everything about staying at Black Honey, the host Jane was fabulous from us arriving! The food in the cafe is the best and the room itself was just beautiful. They had everything we needed and more. They even did our laundry which was a huge bonus. My partner and I said we’d both come back to Sri Lanka just to stay here 😊
The location is stunning and it was nice to be slightly out of town where it is quite hectic. I saw beautiful birds and it was cool to be able to just walk downstairs and get amazing coffee in the morning. The hosts were so helpful and were easy to contact at all times, and helped me arrange anything I needed. The rooms are gorgeous too.
It is quite pricey for the area but overall I felt the beautiful location and rooms made it worth it.
Loved the staff, the vibe, food and practically everything. Specially loved their fam of adopted pups! 10/10 stay!
Nothing!
The room was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. Very aesthetic. The staff were friendly, the food and coffee were great.
I wasn't expecting that this would be a 'cafe with rooms' as that was not how it comes across on booking.com. It's a popular cafe spot/ co-working space, you feel a bit uncomfortable lounging around during the day by the pool (which is more of a plunge pool) whilst it's open. Not what I was expecting, probably my fault for not researching properly, but I was disappointed as I had thought I had booked a nice small boutique hotel for my final night in Sri Lanka. Also quite far from town so recommend a scooter.
The staff helped us out the most and very friendly
The owners. Very inconsiderate, and so not hospitable. They had a faulty lock at one of the toilets, which made one of our friends get locked inside the bathroom, and the owners wanted us to pay for the cost of it after the staff broke it to let one of our guests out from that toilet. There was no negotiations and she was just so rude, shifting the blame on us Further the outdoor furnitures always stank cus they kept getting wet in the rain. So there was lack of shade from the rain in the huge balcony in the rooms and the upstairs common area And no staff to attend to any emergencies after 5pm.
Good place, location and tidy rooms.
We were here in October. I got stuck in the toilet with a faulty lock. We called the staff and they attended after a while and had to break the lock. We were very unhappy as we were asked by the hotels manager to pay for their own faulty lock. We were even more dissatisfied with how she dealt with the situation and talked to us regarding this matter.
Beautiful location, a little tuk or walk from town but that’s what makes it relaxing. The food is incredible, especially the new items on the menu and great coffee too
Nothing
The property is beautiful in the rice paddy fields, rooms are spacious and clean and have a nice balcony space. The owners regularly check that you are Comfortable and enjoying your stay.
Nothing.
The view is nice and the general design is acceptable
They didn’t clean the rooms good enough totally nothing was cleaned deeply. We had to clean up all the surfaces by ourselves Its exactly in front of rice terrace field so its full of mosquitos specially at night . Cafe is open till 4 so there is nobody to assist you with any thing. There is no hot water at all although they say there is but we have stayed four days and there were no hot water at all for shower. Be ready to get in touch with nature cause you can see snakes and all type of insects. Do not expect a hotel with professional services cause mainly its a cafe and only have three rooms to stay. The owner is kind over text msg but really not warm and welcoming in person.
It was a nice ambiance and staffs were nice
Our experience with the property owner was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. We encountered an issue with a faulty door lock, which was clearly a problem with the property itself. And our friend was stuck inside bathroom for more than 40 minutes. Despite the assistance of her own staff who had to break the door open as there was no other option and the key did not work we were later unfairly charged 40,000LKR where she said for a fair amount. Even after explaining the situation clearly, the owner refused to understand, blamed us for the damage, and attempted to bargain for money. What made the situation worse was the manner in which she handled it she was rude, uncooperative, and even went as far as to threaten us and demand that we leave our passports as a guarantee. This was an extremely unpleasant and unfair experience, especially considering that the issue originated from the property’s own maintenance problem.
Extremely nice and comfortable rooms. Very spacious too!
The location was a bit off but not too bad
The room was lovely and very comfortable, great shower, lovely spacious balcony. The location was beautiful and very peaceful, a short distance from cute food spots, some bars and Kabalana beach. Some staff were extremely helpful and even went to rescue her phone after the night she lost it.
- The bathroom (due to design choices) had holes in one wall, which meant that bugs could get inside - you need to make sure the door is always closed which we didn't realise until a couple of days in. -I think the food could be improved at the cafe, we had better breakfasts elsewhere (in terms of value for money, range of choice and quality). -Complicated wifi system with codes, my friend couldn't access it quite a few times though our room was directly above the cafe.
Set with rice fields all around, the views are incredible. A feeling of being in a much more remote spot when really you are only a couple of minutes away from the beach. The staff were warm, welcoming and informative. The welcome drink was delicious. The room was fabulous, great size, clean and modern. The bed was massive and so comfortable! The balcony was a lovely place to sit with a drink while looking out at the scenery. The Cafe has a great vibe and stunning food. I would recommend the granola bowl and also the avocado, eggs on toast. We met the owner and got to hang out with their dogs (Second Dog was our favourite). We are definitely going back.
We couldn’t stay longer.
We loved our beautiful rooms, fantastic bathroom and had an amazing breakfast each morning. Huge balcony with facilities if you wanted to make your own food. The outdoor area by the cafe is also fantastic and had bean bags and a clean pool for relaxing by the day. The hotel was very quiet so we had an excellent nights sleep! 10 min drive to Ahangama so great location
Friendly helpful staff with good vibe and cool cafe with delicious food! Nice room and decor, comfy bed and just out off the hustle but still very close to town. Didn’t realise from the photos but the bathroom has access to outside so keep bathroom shut to prevent mosquitos :)
Not much.
Had expectation, which was profoundly incorrect with this property - expectations, of hot water, cleans towels and friendly/helpful staff; all of which were lacking.
Nicely designed rooms and fairly comfortable bed.
Turned up and was told the air-conditioning wasn't working in the room. However, I was contacted in the morning to ask when we were arriving, so this could have been mentioned at this time so we could arrange other accommodation. They offered, only when we arrived, that they could possibly find an alternative place for us, but this was a hassle for us to move again after travelling here already. There wasn't an offer of free breakfast or anything to compensate. It's not really a great place to stay, more of just a cafe in my opinion.
Bedroom was okay
We paid a little bit more comparing other places in Ahangama hoping it will be clean, but it wasn’t.Also we were bothered too many times by the staff. In example we checked in and 2 mins later we were asked to pay. Also before check-out the staff came again to REMIND the check out is 11:00(even though it was not 11:00 yet). Then when my boyfriend opened the fridge, a wine bottle dropped to the floor and broke. We had to pay half of the bottle even though the bottle was in the fridge so that it was loose and easily fell down. In my opinion it was the fault of broken fridge rather than us. Then we asked not to bring another bottle but the staff had brought one while we were away. It almost dropped too. Maybe you should fix the fridges of put the wine bottle somewhere else than the door.
Loved the vibes, the setting on the paddy field is beautiful and serene, the food and coffee are so good, the rooms are so cute, spacious and clean! Really well designed! The shampoo is DIVINE! Lovely, friendly staff! Only very minor issue was that the pool was littered with leaves the day we arrived. It didn't make for an inviting dip, however, I did see the clean it the next day. I saw the staff cleaning everything else really well!
Nothing at all! Such a great place!
Every thing was great. Quiet and cozy place with tasty breakfast and coffee
The location, swimming pool and garden are all extraordinary. Also, the room itself was spacious and had a shower, which felt like an outdoor shower because of the wall next to it was partly open (however, it could be closed to your liking with a bamboo roller). The terrace with a kitchen and seating attached to the bedroom was very nice to have.
Minor issue but breakfast isn't an option to include in your booking, while Black Honey Café has very good breakfast and lunch options.
The place is a visually appealing boho-style house and coffee place. Whoever built it paid a lot of attention to detail. It's the main reason why we felt great here. There are only a few rooms and the coffee house closes at 4pm. After that it's a very quite location with the sounds of birds all around. The view of the swamp and rice fields in front is charming.
The staff was a bit chaotic although helpful and always smiling. The manager was obviously in a hurry and did not pay the same attention to the details as the architect. So we had to ask twice for the wifi password and even after that, the password didn't work (I just gave up after that). We were told we got a welcome drink and then we had to ask for it and in the end got another guest's drink. It was more of an annoyance rather then a disspoitment.
Black Honey is located in a beautiful spot in Ahangama, facing a paddy field in a quiet neighborhood that's still close to the main street. The location is incredibly convenient. The property offers a lovely pool that guests can use at any time, and it's especially peaceful at night when you might have it all to yourself. I was instantly impressed by the minimalist interior design, which creates a truly relaxing atmosphere. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. The operations manager, Savi, is friendly and flexible with check-in and check-out times. Overall, I would rate this place 10/10 - it's an perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a peaceful stay.
While everything was perfect, I have a few constructive recommendations. In the bathroom, there's an opening that allows mosquitoes to enter at night. Installing a steel mesh screen would help prevent these insects from coming inside. I noticed Black Honey has an in-house cafe, and I suggest considering offering breakfast to in-house guests. (I'm uncertain if this is currently an option during booking.) Additionally, the Google Maps location leads to the car park, but guests need to take a right turn onto a small road after passing the parking area to reach the cafe. A simple directional sign at this turning point would make it easier for guests to find the hotel
We completely enjoyed our stay at Black Honey. The room was super cute and clean and had a definetely necessary air condition. The bed was very comfortable. Also Black Honey Café offers nice food and especially the coffee was very delicious. All in all we've been happy with everything.
The location was amazing between the ricefields where you could see the buffalo's chilling. The rooms were amazing, very astatically pleasing. Breakfast was lovely as well.
Unfortunately, we couldn't use the facilities around the pool because they were redoing the garden. I would recommend mentioning this to the guests because it was one of the reasons we booked, so we could hang around the pool. Also, I would maybe include some sort of discount for the guests to have breakfast there. Or increase the room price and have the breakfast included. Besides, it is quite difficult getting around since the hotel is in the middle of nature. We had a phone number of a tuktuk driver, but if he wouldnt have been available it would have been way more difficult getting to the city center.
Beautiful place! Loved the room & the pool! If you're having a drink by the pool: go for the Hibiscus & Rosemary iced tea that's really good!!
We felt like the staff wasn't as organised it as friendly ad we had experienced throughout the rest of our journey. We rentes a scooter via the hotel... and we were a bit disappointed: maintenance light was in, no gas in the tank, felt like and old rusty scooter. We originally wanted to rent it for two ways, bit returned it after the first one as it felt a bit unsafe.
This is the first time I ever give anyone a bad review, sorry. I tried to speak to them and say that that wasn’t ok, but they also chose to ignore that. 1. No value for the money: the place charged as much as some high end hotels but had non of the facilities, check out was extremely limited leaving my parents stranded outside for half an hour, no safe, no reception to support. And many other needs weren’t met for the price 2. Not honest: booking cost was 150 usd and they charged us over 200
Super aesthetic and small boutique hotel with only 3 rooms. Great view, coffee and breakfast
Only downside is you have slightly more distance to the city, but on a scooter it only takes 6 min
The separate area for the kitchen where you can lounge outside
There was a noise of the pressure pump from the room and was not able to get any food as the cafe was closed on the Sunday
Was a very spacious room and a comfortable bed with a very nice large balcony and the overall cleanliness was excellent.
The kitchenette available didn't have any pans to cook on. A general improvement would be the availability of at least some salt and pepper
Really lovely independent hotel with loads of attention to detail. Has a cafe at ground floor level serving great brunch. Set in a rural area which has a calm village feel away from the village
Nothing.
The ambiance and the design
Nothing
Well maintained and clean. There’s also a cafe downstairs that serve food and good coffee.
The bed wasn’t comfortable. Would have been satisfied guests if we got a better nights sleep. Also worth noting that after 5.00 pm the cafe downstairs closes and there’s no staff present in the event you need anything. The lady who checked us in mentioned a contact number (of a staff member who lived nearby) was printed on the leaflet on the table; but when we checked later that night there was none.
The rooms are nice and everything is clean but that night the water was not working which the staff was nice enough to come and fix it. Overall a nice stay but they might need to have a reception that is not inside the caffe
The room is really nice, bathroom is outside but doesn’t get too many insects except few mosquitos so all good. Water in the shower takes a bit of time to heat up, but I know it’s a Srilanka thing to start with. After 2 days we got the cleaning so if you’d need towels after one day, you need to ask for it directly I believe. Good AC, bed was ok.
The food at the restaurant is more on the average side, nothing tastes significantly good to be willing to get back here. We still ate there as there’s nothing close by, but it’s not the type of food you’d be really happy with in terms of taste.
It was absolutely fabulous in every way ! Chilled , very very clean , gorgeous room , fabulous food and coffee !!!! Lovely owners and staff . It was a lovely change to be situated in lush jungle away from crowds but still within walking distance of the beach .
Amazing food, lovely staff, great modern design
Our welcome could have been better, the cafe was extremely busy and loud when we arrived. Maybe a reception desk with baggage hold as we felt like our bags were in everyone’s way.
Black Honey Hotel in Ahangama offers super comfy beds, clean rooms and breathtaking views. With friendly staff, delicious food and drinks and great vibes, it's the perfect spot for a relaxing escape.
The rooms have a lovely view overlooking green fields. It’s nice and tidy with a relaxing energy where you get away from the noise from the busy road.
This is the place to find tranquility and comfort. Loved the interior, the views, the bed and comfy pillows, the little kitchenette and the privacy since there are only 3 rooms in total. Great coffee too!
Very nice rooms with awesome interior and super clean. The room keepers are super friendly and made everything for a perfect stay. Really calm and nice neighborhood. Would come back any time!
Beware of Influencer-Mania … ;-) just kidding, but it can annoy ;-)
We had a wonderful time at Black Honey. The rooms are very comfortable and functional, and the view overlooking the rice fields is gorgeous. Very quiet despite being located above the cafe, and we loved retreating back to Black Honey away from the hustle and bustle of Ahangama town. Food and coffee some of the best in all of town, and the menu is not your run of the mill, standard offering. The owners are very hands on and always helpful. Also loved the on-site pool. Would happily stay here again.
Amazing attention to detail in the room - duvet, kitchen and a yoga mat for morning practice Great service
It was clean and comfortable
It was way too expensive for what was on offer! Very remote location you could not get anywhere!in the middle of a rice paddy lots of mosquitos and The bathroom did not have a walk only a reed mat so all the mosquitos could come in through there. Staff were clueless! When i went to check out there was no management on duty so a bar staff member did the check out. For 100 dollars a night i expect breakfast! Everything was charged extra! I would never stay here again! Untried to cancel it but they never got back to me. Complete waste of money.
- nice clean rooms - great menu with clever dishes, gluten-free options - made with a lot of passion - remote but peaceful location
- only downside was that WiFi was not good
Very good breakfast with eggs, bread, juices and most importantly, the best coffee in Ahangama. Well thought out rooms with nice interior design, spacious patio with kitchen, comfortable beds and peaceful surroundings. Good place if you want some peace and quiet away from the beach.
No real complaints here.
Highly recommend! Stayed for 3 nights in December. Peaceful spot overlooking rice paddy fields to the front and rear. Spotlessly clean and very stylish rooms. A small pool to take a dip in or laze beside. The cafe downstairs is open 8-4, so other holiday makers come for the beautiful coffee and or food and will often stay to use the pool too. 15 minute walk to the lovely Kabalana beach where you can rent surfboards etc. Loads of good food spots in the area. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Amazing design Comfortable room Good food in the Coffee place below the room Friendly and helpful host Good vibes Quiet place
A very warm and welcoming space. Spacious rooms, cute balconies, exceptional service and amazing hosts. The coffee was remarkable. Will definitely recommend for a wonderful experience.
Everything was great! The coffee shop below was the cherry on the cake!
Nice cafe and has great healthy breakfast options.
The whole vibe of this property is brilliant. Chill out cafe, great music, a place to work, a place to relax. Close to everything yet away from the tourist trail. Genuine 10/10
Nothing to not like. Hosts and their team were all wonder
Pretty place out of the crowd. Very clean. Bed super comfy and nice quality sheets. Nice staff. Good coffee.
Wifi isn’t working in the room. You’ve to go outside in the sofa area. Not much water for the shower. (No hot water either but it’s Sri Lanka you shouldn’t need it) Very small portion breakfast (which isn’t included in the price)
Jamie, Jane and all the staff were so kind and friendly - and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcomed on our stay. We loved the aesthetic of the whole place, but especially the room; it was above our expectations! The balcony Kitchenette was a real winner. And finally… the food! Wow.
The wifi was a little hit and miss, but we contacted the Out of Hours number to ask for a new code and received one quickly.
The most incredible room and coffee I’ve had whilst in Sri Lanka. The interior of both the cafe downstairs and the room were beautiful and so unique to other places I’ve stayed. The rooms were so spacious and comfortable with the most lovely bathroom and shower with hot water. All of the staff were so friendly and kind, and a great help in planning onward travel. I’ll be recommending this place to everyone and hope I’ll get to visit again!
I loved the room. It was extremely well maintained. The aesthetic is to die for.
The WiFi could have been better.
We really loved our stay there! The hotel was beautifully designed and so unique. The surrounding paddy fields allowed for a peaceful & comfortable stay. Waking up to the sound of the birds and being so close to nature, we were able to enjoy a relaxing session of yoga & meditation. We also enjoyed our daily trips to the Kabalana beach, which was a short tuk tuk ride away and walked back through the local village in the evening. Highly recommended as an escape from the hustle & bustle of city life.
Diddng have enough security at night
We had a fantastic stay at Black Honey. The room was thoughtfully put together and we felt instantly at home. We particularly enjoyed the balcony space at night which gave us a secluded spot overlooking the paddy fields to enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the evening serenade of local birds and wildlife. I had some work to do during the day and was able to make use of the ample space in the room to have some time with my laptop without being in anyone's way. I was also able to take my laptop to the attached cafe to continue working through lunch. The cafe has the best coffee I've come across on the South Coast and I really enjoyed their toasts menu. I think this would be a great spot for someone in a remote working situation who is looking for a great place to stay with all the home comforts alongside a spectacular setting.
Room was fantastic. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom facilities excellent. The staff were very helpful and the design of the whole building really beautiful. Breakfast was very tasty with a very funky menu choice. Coffee the best we have had in Sri Lanka.
There was nothing we disliked. A pity our stay was only one night.
Everything was excellent, rooms were spotless, bed was comfy, staff were friendly, shower was hot and powerful, breakfast was delicious and the view over the rice paddies was beautiful. Staff brought breakfast to our room so that we could enjoy on our balcony. It's close enough to be able to stroll to surrounding restaurants and the beach but also in land enough to enjoy the peace, quiet and sounds of nature!
The only thing was that the drinking water dispenser outside the rooms was empty, however there was a bottle of water in our room and some complimentary juice in the fridge.
