Every thing
There was no hot water for a shower
value for money for the booking, bar was expensive. It was all ok, the rooms were ok but not great, the food was ok, the breakfast was ok but nothing was great maybe the staff
The golf course, esp the greens and were the wild pigs and torn it op
It's cheaper and quieter than the Angel
It's slightly further to walk to my mum's house than the Angel
Breakfast.. scenery.. location ..friendly.
Room scorchio...no fan and window opening restricted..
There's not much to like
Dirty sheets, dirty room, staff non-existent, pay extra for a dog but get a worse room
Chambre spacieuse et petit déjeuner satisfaisant
Cote vintage … hôtel à rénover
Friendly staff and everything was clean and tidy
Parking was a problem at times
Great location and walkable distance to town centre. Room was clean and had the necessary amenities within. Plenty of on site parking.
WiFi coverage was poor.
The room was very spacious, good value for the money
Great location for Coleford and Lydney with pretty surroundings. Although I didn’t eat in the restaurant it did look inviting. It was very busy on a Sunday with Roast lunches.
Reception customer service is non existent. Other people’s Noisy doors banging.
Location, value for money
Thin walls so woken up by other residents several times
Location
No air con
Great location to visit Puzzlewood and wye valley. Staff v friendly and helpful. Very quiet at night. Family room comfortable and spacious.
Cleaning of bathroom could have been better. Toilet didnt seem to have been fully cleaned. Hairs in sink and shower. Carpet worn in places. A fake plant or some kind of cabinet would have made it nice like the main room which was inviting.
Breakfast was of standard quality iv stayed many times but found this time quality of food and gents toilet could do better
Comfortable and clean.
Nothing
mondäne Unterkunft im Golfklub, Essen nebenan im Clubhaus, Zimmer geräumig und sehr schön
Staff really friendly and helpful
Lumpy mattress
Excellent

Staff very friendly and helpful at all times professional and caring food excellent rooms absolutely spotless and beds totally comfortable in my opinion a fantastic and memorable stay thank you Bell's hotel.
Everything scenery hotel the clubhouse and most of all the staff
We saw friends and have stayed 3 times but only ok
There was no AC , very noisy from the other rooms and Bells club house didn’t have anything on the menu we liked due to running out of chicken. There were children running a mock with no staff dealing with this. We will never return and find another suitable place. Terrible
Short walk into town and comfortable, large clubhouse. It has a golf course and bowling greens so very busy with people taking part in these activities.
Room was very basic for the price.
Location
Flat pillows, bit out dated decor , breakfast interesting
Had flies all over one of the single beds

Staff contacted me prior to my arrival and arranged a room near to the reception and it was an accessible room suitable for my 91 year old mother. I think this was excellent. Staff here are always very pleasant and the hotel should be commended for this.
Ive stayed at the Bells a few times now and my only criticism would be that some of the rooms are dated and some if the mattresses aren't the most comfortable. However I do understand that the cost and current economic climate are against them. Would definitely stay in the future.
Room was dingy, worn-out carpet, like a furnace. Had to borrow fan from the club house, the reception said no when we checked in. The room needed more than just a fan. No provision was made to make the customer stay better in the extremely warm summer.
Location was convenient for my needs.
Unusual heat wave so a small bedside fan would have been useful.
taps on the sink were difficult to turn off and on and the extractor fan did not seem to be working in the bathroom Our room was near the entrance and as the weather was hot we had the window open all the time, it was a bit disturbing in the evening as we were trying to get to sleep as people stood outside the entrance talking. would you consider putting a cooling fan in the room during hot weather. Minor problems , but you did ask.
Room clean and basically furnished. Shower good. Quiet location. Good parking.
The location was fantastic along with the food
There was nothing we didn't like.
The food was nice except the fry eggs in to much fat in the try
table too close to each other and you felt like saddens when you have breakfast you need to Karm and enjoy it first room had mould in bathroom, the TV cannel i table too close to each other and you felt like sardines when you have breakfast you need to Karm and enjoy it first room had mould in bathroom, the TV channel i watch had the picture pixelated so unable to watch. the cold-water tap had to be run for a period of time as it was dangerous to put your hand under it as it was very hot ?. second room same with cold water tap very hot. The radiator made banging noise from pipes. The waste bin rusty, also they say I was rude to the staff, if saying I am reporting you to Book.com To the reception said i rude when I reported the item to the front deck I was ignored, only the next day I was offered a new room, I asked if the TV had cannel 21 and was told yes, when I moved to the new room it did not have that cannel. Reported this to reception and was accuse of not telling the truth watch had the picture pixelated so unable to watch. the clod water tap had to be run for a period of time as it was dangerous to put your hand under it as it was very hot ?. second room same with clod water tap
Plenty of choice at breakfast. Food well cooked. Bar staff very efficient. Responded well to a delay in serving our evening meal by giving complimentary drinks.
Bar drinks were expensive. The golf course was 'scruffy' and in need of some TLC Bunkers in particular need urgent attention. Tee times were too close together meaning there were too many players on the course leading to massive waiting on tees. Some tees had 3 and often 4 groups 'waiting' It was more of a Municipal course, attractive to big groups of players (mostly without handicaps) There was no regard to slow play. It was noisy when players were taking a shot, golf etiquette and on course management (raking bunkers, repairing pitchmarks or replacing divots for example) was non existent. As for a dress code, there wasn't one. Not a course for the goling purists, at all. We had a 3 night stay. Our room wasn't attended at all during that time. The bins were overflowing when we left. The complimentary tea and coffee was not replenished. We reported that the shower tray was not draining and the toilet cistern was faulty. There was little in the way of joined up provision, the pro shop, bar and hotel reception appeared to be 3 seperate elements, not all working for the same business. A course Marshall would improve the golfing experience massively as woukd a 'starter' We were a mixed group, 5 ladies and 7 gents all with qualifying handicaps (bar one) our groups overall assessment is summed up within this narrative.
Bells Hotel is in a great location and the staff were all unfailingly lovely, especially the lady on reception. The room was a good size, and other hotels would probably have wedged a double bed in rather than a single. The shower was decent, although the door leaked a little.
Bells Hotel is primarily for golfers (it has a lovely golf course), and they are understandably keen to keep the golf course in good condition. Unfortunately for me, there was a small team of robot mowers that docked under the window to my room. It was hot, so I had the window open at night, and two of them woke me up returning to their docks at 1am in the morning. I didn't know what they were at the time and my first thought was that some it was some latecomers parking electric scooters outside my room, so they gave me a bit of a fright. I was then woken again at 6:45am by a guy on a ride on mower trimming the green. So all in all, not a great night's sleep even though the room itself was pleasant enough. I also can't recommend the coffee in the clubhouse. It comes out of a machine but it tastes like instant, so you may as well save your money and drink the instant in your room!
Nice looking Hotel and food was very good, we enjoyed our breakfast and most of the staff were lovely.
I got confirmation we would be on the ground floor by Maxine in an email but when we checked in, we were put on the 1st floor. Yes the room was a bit bigger apparently but it was stifling hot and no fan or air con made it an uncomfortable nights sleep. That didn’t matter though as the amount of noise coming from golfers was ridiculous! 02:20 they finally quietened down and then noise again at 06:25! All the function rooms were boiling and no air con which was a shame. Bottled soft drinks were all warm and kept out of the fridge too, would have been nice chilled especially considering hot weather and no rooms with any air con/fans. The hairdryer in room 36 wasn’t working properly, something to look at.
The room its self was ok and clean
It was too hot no air con or anything to help cool the room and windows didnt open far. It was incredibly noisy you could hear everyone conversation in rooms around and on the corridor. Doors banging all night! We did not sleep well at all! Terrible terrible stay
Perfect for what we needed, lovely room, excellent for my mum and myself, good location
Nothing
Very pleasant room and comfortable bed.
Didn’t find anything to dislike.
Good location for cycling at Forest of Dean. Big car park which felt safe and secure. All the staff we interacted with were great.
Cold tap in bathroom ran scoldingly hot for several minutes before it got cold which was annoying and inconvenient. The room decor was a bit tired especially the bathroom.
It was convenient for where we needed to be.
Room very comfortable and presented well. A very good breakfast in the super location of the golf clubhouse. The situation of the hotel is excellent being surrounded by the golf course and in an elevated location with views.
Nothing really
Really friendly staff

Great location, the restaurant was excellent. Lovely atmosphere.
I was in room 26, which is a single room on the ground floor. Apparently some of the family rooms have been upgraded and are excellent but my room was certainly not. The downstairs needs a refurb - it’s worlds apart from the restaurant!
Good location. Nice bar.
The walls are a little thin - I had to ask the next room to lower their voices around midnight.
Room/bathroom was clean and bed was comfy.
Customer service could’ve been better - on arrival we were quoted the balance for the room and after payment went through we were handed our key and told to go down the corridor. That was all the communication we received. The dog friendly room was quite small for two plus a dog and it was incredibly hot. There were a pair of old socks remaining on the radiator in the room when we got there. Also, you had to run the cold water tap for quite a while before it would turn from really hot to cold.
The receptionist and the restaurant supervisor was friendly, polite and attentive. The breakfast was a good quality and tasty offering. The parking and surroundings are stunning. The exterior, bar, restaurant and reception very tidy. Very close to the main amenities of Coleford. The bed was comfortable.
It was so warm, with out fan or air con. My partner was forced to seek the only bit of cool she could find - on the floor.... When we opened the bed room door we were instantly hit with the warm temperature which far exceeded safe limits. We were shocked by how small the room was, obviously a single person room with a massive double bed and over hanging TV which was far to large for the small room. The bed side draws were so small it took me back to when I was 3 and played with a toy kitchen - it was that low and small. Then there was the large cobweb in the wardrobe, lack of iron facilities, lack of room information about the hotel and very very hot water coming out of the cold water tap!!!!. Although there was a sign up, I do wonder if it is within legal limits for normal plumbing and water regs. Very dangerous potentially.
The location was fantastic for local tourist spots like puzzlewood, symonds yat and mallards pike. The staff were very helpful and the clubhouse garden is a lovely setting to enjoy a drink and meal.
The night time noise. This is a busy golf club. We stayed on a warm night- no air con or fans in the room and so had to have the window open. This meant hearing noise from the clubhouse until the early hours as well as the sprinkler system and what sounded like jet washing throughout the night. It also meant being disturbed again at 6:30am by golf buggies and cars zooming past the window on the gravel roadway outside. Unfortunately on top of that the rooms aren’t soundproof and we were landed with very noisy neighbours who were chatting until 2am and then snoring loudly.
The comfortable beds.
Could hear other guests during the night/ early hours.Lack of sound insulation in the room and corridors.
Room very clean and comfortable Access to gym .Very good meal
Nothing to dislike
Clean, friendly helpful staff, dog friendly, great location.
The hairdryer was very temperamental but this was a very minor part of the stay.
Good location for us as only 5mins from where our mum lives - which is the reason for our stay. Close to the town and the grounds of the hotel are pleasant. Clubhouse is nice - drinks are quite pricey but on par with other hotels. Decent breakfast considering it was included in price.
Bedrooms are basic, bathroom could do with a refit. Bed was quite hard, rooms not very soundproof, was woken at 5.30am by some loud tapping / banging that went on for ages. Receptionist polite enough but not overly welcoming. But it was £97 for the night with breakfast, so get what you pay for. We knew we weren’t getting luxury and only book it because it’s somewhere to sleep while visiting family and cheap.
The accommodation was perfect. Loads of parking. The room was amazing value for money, and all the furnishings were modern and well maintained. The clubhouse for food and drink was open from early till late and very pleasant with lots of locals using the hospitality. So glad we chose to stay here. Really met our needs for an overnight stop over. Thanks for having us.
No issues.
Nice big room and friendly staff
You can hear other people in connecting rooms and the breakfast choice wasn't great unless you wanted a fry up.
Good value, clean, convenient location, friendly staff.
No air con or fan in room. It was probably the hottest day of the year.
Location was good for me
Quite expensive and not that clean. Had to plug aerial lead back in to TV and there was a very thick layer of dust behind it. Everything else was clean though.
Very good.
Het personeel
Niks
Despite some negative reviews we found the room very quiet and comfortable.
Location next to Forest of Dean and attractions
great location, room comfortable, breakfast good. easy to find, plenty of parking.
Breakfast was good. Location was good for my purposes. Open view from room window.
No useable WiFi in room 28, reported but no action taken (other rooms closer to reception may be fine). TV reception not great on most channels, ariel connection loose, hard to watch a football match. Room next door had bathroom fan on all night, every night, very loud and intrusive in my room. Ironically, bathroom fan in my room didn't work. Underside of white toilet seat stained yellow, crack in basin.
They were really helpful and had a wheelchair accessible room.
Walls very thin could here being above and in next room on the phone and using the bathroom
It was convenient for our visit
We have stayed here many times and this was definitely the worst room we have had. It smelt damp . The breakfast has also gone downhill - now just a buffet - you used to choose from a menu😩
Near to where I needed to be
The electric grass cutter out side my window during the night
Front Desk were welcoming, the staff are all very friendly
The room was a superior suite yet the bed was knackered. Very uncomfortable sleep, the springs had all gone in the mattress but there was no replacement available. Bathroom was out dated but clean.
Room was clean and tidy. Nice bar and restaurant.
The restaurant was very good. Good selection of food. Well cooked
It was quite expensive for the 3 dogs to stay with us. £15 per dog per night, so for us it was £15 x3x3. I understand it is for extra cleaning but 3 dogs don't make 3 times as much dirt.
Lovely place , nice atmosphere the food for dinner was excellent as was the breakfast - good night sleep as it was so quiet - would recommend
Bar stuff and restaurant staff very friendly and helpful, big golf course area is green and quiet but no regular bus or taxi service.
Breakfast is ok but little choice , no fruits and coffees (capuccino) very weak, pastry choice croissant only ( from supermarkets?) receptionists not very helpful- probably not expected to. Everything in this hotel needs updating, other than the golf course which seems to be very busy and well used
The receptionist was lovely along with the lady who was hard at hearing but very pleasant 😊 to me and my wife, the club house was nice and clean food was amazing.
The room smelt abit damp when we arrived but was ok after we left the windows open, the bath panel was cracked.hearing other doors slamming wasn't ideal.some of the staff in the clubhouse didn't seem friendly to the lady who was hard at hearing rolling their eyes and making snide comments.not alot to do around the area.
Location was perfect for what we had travelled for. Clean rooms and nice atmosphere. Buffet breakfast was good.
Location was perfect Car charging worked well for us but bloody slow for the cost. This is however third party so not the hotels responsibility.
Cleanliness. Disruption confusion over the early morning Fire Alarm, especially as the whole process was badly managed will little to no updates for some of us. It was also cold & wet so not ideal. A complaint was raised and compensation agreed however nothing has been forwarded to us so far and its been 5 days since. Was holding this review back for this, but the lack of correspondence has forced my hand. Noise from pipework. @ 05:15 I was wakened by a very regular banging, every couple of seconds. This became less frequent after about 30mins but continued to knock for an hour or more. We left in the end so unsure of its actual length of annoyance. That and the 30mins we were out due the Fire Alarm going off.
Lovely family room with plenty of space. In spite of the hotel and restaurant being full with golfers the restaurant responsible made it possible for us to actually have a meal ! She couldn’t have been more pleasant and efficient, thank you!
Absolutely nothing!
The grounds are beautiful and the bar and breakfast are good
The cold tap ran hot for a long time
Lovely big room, quiet location, comfy bed and friendly staff
The room was a bit old fashioned looking
Evening meal plenty of choice cooked to perfection and ample portions . Breakfast a wide range of items to choose from including a hot breakfast . Staff very helpful and attentive
Ideal location
Nothing
very outdated rooms and bathrooms, needs a lot of money being put into it. breakfast was dire.
Nice setting,good breakfast
Toilet wouldnt flush
Would have liked more healthy cereal option. Would have liked option of say scrambled egg rather than just fried. Otherwise fine. Location fine.
Perhaps the room could do with some redecoration. Looking a bit tired.
Excellent cleanliness Location
Only downside even though it was a budget room and the windows open , no fan
The club house and bar were modern and clean
Lack of air conditioning Rooms that require modernisation Old soap dispenser not functioning Cracked bath Poor breakfast offering- cold and not replenished
The staff were very friendly, plentiful parking. Good to have a bar on site
We booked a "suite" and expected the room to be of a reasonable quality. There was nothing to make this room a "suite" rather than just a double room. The shower was above the bath and I would have expected a separate cubicle, the furniture was marked and old, standard TV channels, no Netflix or similar. The worst part about this accommodation was how tired the decor was, both leading up to the room and once inside - paint chipped off walls etc. This was really not of acceptable quality. No iron in the room, no safe, not even a pack of biscuits!
Location is ideal for attending a wedding at Clearwell Castle. Also for exploring the area
There is a vibe in the “bar/ members lodge” that isn’t exactly welcoming for visitors.
Facilities and location
The people in the next room talking as loud as they could at 6 o'clock in the morning.
