This was a charming accommodation in the perfect location for our needs. With the bus stop right outside the door, transport could not have been more convenient. There were also a lot of food options very close by - restaurants and grocery stores. Staff was helpful and the included breakfast was a hearty and yummy start to our days. The building is old and the floors were uneven and wonky, but that was part of the charm and character. The shower was surprisingly large and while there were stains on the wall and some parts of the room, it was clean. If I found myself in Coleford again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.
Noise can be an issue as our room faced on to a main road, but it really wasn't too much of an issue for us as the traffic picked up in the morning commute hours but not so much an issue overnight. The pub was not open very late on the nights we were there so noise related to that was not an issue during our stay. Could updates and a refresh be made to the accommodations? Absolutely. But that would not stop me from staying there.
The breakfast was great. Lots of options to precise from.
It would have been nice to have food available in the evening. We brought in our own as the kitchen was closed. They staff were great about providing plates, utensils etc for our food.
Clean room, comfortable bed, large bathroom, friendly and helpful receptionist.
No toiletries in the bathroom
The room itself was wonderful. So spacious and felt luxurious. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. Room servicing each day was exceptional. Leah, who checked us in, was EXCELLENT.
Slightly shabby wallpaper in our room and in the hallway. Also, the fireplace in the breakfast room had plastic sheeting showing. We are nitpicking here though...
very good breakfast and organised well (had to choose breakfast and time slot the night before). Fantastic large, fluffy towels in bathroom. Lovely old building with lots of character,
Our room was at the front - roadside so was quite noisy. That said Coleford isn't that busy a town as our stay was a Sunday night , so again not too bad. I I'd have known the area at all I would have asked for a room at the rear (if there are any).
Old charm and features, in both room and throughout building. Nice surroundings. Free nearby car park an advantage.
The room had an old 'musty' smell but was excusable considering the age. The advertised "view" was only possible on tiptoes, through a small window, overlooking the high street only.
Location of accom, breakfast was good, staff very helpful

Lovely clean bedroom and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Perfect location
None
I liked the old building the great breakfast and a spooky room right at the top.
Footprint and some hairs in the shower tray. Very noisy outside in the street.
Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good and cooked fresh to order.

Breakfast fantastic.
Shower tray slippery, too many stairs.
Breakfast was OK. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was good
This is a pub with rooms. Only the barman there when I arrived, so a 15 min wait to check in. Advertised as a superior room with balcony, but the "Balcony" was the narrow felted roof of the bay window below, accessible only with difficulty through the narrow opening in the lower secondary glazing of the floor to ceiling windows. Frankly, not worth the extra over a standard double. Inside of the windows was very dirty. Faced the town square, but no nets at the window for privacy, so had to close curtains when changing. Room very hot, but at least a fan was provided. No-one around at check out to report issues. No information in room. I had to get the wi-fi code from the bar - another wait to be served. Quite pleasant on a Sunday and Monday, but very noisy from the bar next door and the street on Saturday night until 1am. Because of the heat, reluctant to close the windows. The main entrance is a popular place for smokers, despite the No Smoking sign. Consequently, littered with fag-ends. The place did not do food in the evenings, which was not clear in the information.
Breakfast was well cooked. No fruit available. Bed comfortable
Out dated appearance. Carpet dirty on entrance and stairs. Was hoping to go to the bar in the evening. Dark and dingy looking and uninviting. Spent evening in my room as did not feel comfortable anywhere else. No parking. Was told parking was free in Lidl/co-op car park. This was not true. Paid £4.40 for overnight in Co-op Bus stop right outside my window and so noisy evening and early morning.
Location was good, a decent Italian restaurant nearby.
Quality of deluxe room did not meet expectations, carpet and furnishing had dust. The shower room was reasonable, but water did not drain and mirror light not functioning. A fan supplied worked but not stable, window closures hard to operate. Curtains ok, but no means of restricting a view into the room apart from pulling the curtains. Breakfast ok, but sausage was poor quality.
The quirkiness of this place is wonderful and I felt right at home at this pub/ hotel. Best nights sleep in a month after leaving Australia and exploring 4 other countries….
It was too far away off our travel to return for another night…
Lovely staff clean rooms and the breakfast was excellent
Comfortable bed. Helpful staff. Nice bathroom(apart from the shower)
Shower very poor. Very noisy at night.
The staff
It was quite run down
How central it was. It was spotless as well. Beds were extremely comfortable. Loads of storage space. Everything easy to operate and accessible.
There was only one thing really and that was the shower head wouldnt stay up and tilted down too far so it wqs harder to get under the water stream.
Cozy, comfy, a good sized room with a great bathroom, and breakfast included! The staff were very friendly too.
Location
No air con
Very friendly and clean .
Did have air con , but did provide fans .
Staff were brilliant and very helpful and accommodating
Not the hotel's fault but very noisy nearby late at night
Location was great
No parking but knew that…..
We booked on the same evening so it was a great surprise to see this hotel available and with breakfast. Great location, nice breakfast, fan in the room, friendly staff and busy bar below
The rooms may need some renovation
Decor
Small wardrobe space and lots of stairs to get to your room with luggage and no onsite food
The room was very clean and comfortable. The cooked breakfast was excellent and the staff were helpful. The Angel is a period building and has great charm.
The attractive restaurant was closed for evening meals during my stay. The bathroom shower needed some time to adjust satisfactorily.
The breakfast was good
Room 101 was spacious and comfortable
Plumbing a little noisy but made us laugh
Great location for exploring the Forest of Dean. the hotel was in the centre of Coleford and there was free parking nearby, or reasonably cheap parking a little further out. Breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. The bar downstairs was friendly and lively but not too loud.
There aren't many places to eat in the evening in Coleford, so be prepared for that. Also, all of the hotel rooms are front facing and the tapas bar next door had a late licence until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday nights with very noisy clientele. It was very hot so we had to have the windows open. The hotel are aware and have tried to change this but to no avail. Take ear plugs!!
De pub onder/ in het hotel
Super gehorig pand. Langs de doorgaande weg, veel verkeer wat zeer goed hoorbaar is. Ontbijt zwaar onder de maat. Parkeren van auto alleen mogelijk op parkeerplaats van locale supermarkt, geen zicht op.
Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked
Good location in the town centre and handy for the buses (bus stop is right outside the hotel). Room was nice, very clean, comfy bed, nice shower. A fan was provided which was much appreciated in the hot weather. Breakfast was good, not a huge choice but what was available was quite acceptable.
Wasn't too impressed with the staff to begin with, seemed a bit disorganised but things improved as time went on. Couldn't get ITV on the television so had to watch the World Cup on my phone.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and very comfortable with tea and coffee facilities and super comfortable bed. Central location. Excellent breakfast.
Decor is a little tired but only needs a little bit of TLC. No parking facilities but there is a free car park just a couple of minutes walk away which was fine for our needs as we only had one bag.
Lovely choice cooked to order.
Difficult to obtain vat receipt
The character of the building was lovely
Cleanliness, convenience and value for money.
No negatives worth mentioning.
Room and location was perfect.
It was noisy outside on the night but we were right in the town centre
The staff were friendly, and the old world character of the pub and room.
Noise from next door til very late
The location, the quality of the room, very nice inside, decorated and furnished well. Staff were friendly.
I couldn't close the window so it was really noisy at night, no one around to ask to close it. I had to ask for the breakfast sheet on my second night because i was only given one, it took a while because the nice lady that helpec me was unsure of the comuter system. I didn't see anyone to ask for the last two nights, so I missed out on 2 breakfasts.
perfect location
Nothing
The location . Hotel near Slimbridge was requested.this hotel was nowhere near and we did not stay . This was the fault of booking .com
I stayed there the year before and it was just what i wanted on my trip to see friends the breakfast was good well presented and good set me up for the day ahead, room just what i was looking for staff very helpful.
No issues
Clean
The smoking from bar next door
The staff was excellent, The building is tired.
Being an Older person, it was different to keep our balance with the un even floors.
nice hotel, good staff, super breakfast. in the centre of a lovely town. well worth a visit. we will be back later in the year.
maybe have more assist with luggage, for us oldies the stairs give our knees a bashing. on our visit it seemed as though one person had a lot to do.
Great breakfast Good central location Close to public parking lot
No AC
The staff were very pleasant and the hotel was very well located for what we needed, it is great value for money and the breakfast, which was included was really good..The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.
There was nothing not to like.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast.
Room needs a bit of tender care
Room was large, enjoyed that it was separate rooms for kids and adults. The staff were very friendly and nice.
Room was next to a nightclub, which was my fault for not checking. So we were up till 2am. Room was quite dated and dirty, but bedding was clean! No AC and fan was broken, so it was a hot night.
Great location, friendly staff and good breakfast.
All good
Breakfast was spot on.
Restaurant was closed in the evening and pub over the road which does food is closed Mon - Weds. The only other place which does pub grub in walking distance is the Bell Hotel / Golf club which was good nosh but a bit trumpy.
Firstly, thanks to Dave for sorting our room request. Didn't get to meet to say thanks personally, but we were very grateful. Room was lovely with beams and four poster. Clean, tidy, and with a thoughtful fan included. Loads of storage and good lighting. Staff lovely. Breakfast well cooked and plentiful. Location great for our cycles and river paddles.
All good. It's rare not to have something that niggles but honestly, everything was lovely.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean. We were directed to a free overnight car park just around the corner which was very helpful
The pub was closed for food although we were told we could take in a takeaway and they would provide plates/cutlery etc, which was nice. But we went to a local restaurant instead
The staff is super sweet. Breakfast was amazing 10/10. Room was clean, same as the bathroom. There was a ventilator in the room for the heat. Sad to stay only 1 night.
No outlet at the bed
They let us check in earlier than 2pm. They stored out bags for us after we checked out until we came back to collect them. The staff were very helpful. The room size is good for 2 people. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom is large in size. The breakfast was good.
We stayed on Saturday night and the venue next door was playing loud music until late which we could hear when we slept. The noise from the street was also loud after the guests left the parties next door and the pub opposite which meant you could hear people shouting throughout the night. The music from the pub downstairs could also be heard if you were on the first floor. However, we couldn't hear it on the second floor.
The bed was comfortable, the bath fantastic and the breakfast very good. Great location and value for money
Staff were lovely. They were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. As there is no restaurant, we were encouraged to get a takeaway and bring it into the hotel to eat.
No parking at the hotel. We had to leave the car in a public car park after transferring our luggage across the road. No restaurant in the hotel and nowhere to get an evening meal in the town when we arrived. Buses stopped outside the hotel and under our window. This was noisy from early in the morning
Spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable room. Good breakfast.
Horrible hotel
Listed as room with balcony and view. It had neither. Dirty, old, poorly maintained. Owner is incredibly rude and unhelpful. I was denied use of the listed facilities because I had a child with me and my child was not allowed on the only communal space after 7pm. They never bothered to inform me of this prior to booking or even on arrival. Also let me pay for a drink before telling me I had to sit in my horrible room to actually drink it.
Good location, very friendly staff.
Nearest overnight parking is 100 metres away, but it is free!
All the basics and breakfast were good.
It was "down at heel" and minor maintenance was lacking - creaking doors, burned out bulbs not replaced, some TV Channels not working and some wallpaper coming off the ceiling in the breakfast room.
Very clean and tidy
Very old fashion
Loved the room it was so nice with a 4 poster bed and the kids had a room as well with 2 beds. They even left a bottle of prosecco for my birthday. The breakfast was really nice and Paula was so lovely. The bar was nice and everyone was so friendly and the locals. Would go back again definitely. 😊😊
Nothing
Good location, straight forward booking in process, large bedroom and quality shower coupled to easy car parking.
All good.
Great Staff
Needs a bit of an update
The room looked lovely and it was clean. Glad it had a fan. Music at night from next door was a bit loud
Loud at night
Friendly staff, clean room, looked nice. Wasn't keen on the cooked breakfast.
Cooked breakfast
We had a family room that was biger than expected it was divided into two separate rooms within the ensuite and comfortable host 4 people. The staff was very friendly and the included breakfast was also very good.
Not really the hotel fault but we staid Friday and Saturday and there was bar next door to the hotel that had extremelly loud music play until 2 am do we did not sleep well due to this. The Hotel manager was very nice and explain they have been batteling with council regarding this issue. So as a warning if your stay is over the weekend bring good noise canceling ear plugs.
Friendly Manager and staff, reasonably priced drink at the bar, reasonable quality breakfast
Restaurant closed though advertised as open. That said they did provide us with dinning equipment and condiments for us to eat takeaway food in the bar
Good location, good price and nice breakfast.
Shower wasn't great, just a dribble and only coming out hot. Room was very warm but a fan was supplied.
I stayed in room 103. The room was beautifully decorated with plenty of beds, towels, tea and coffee facilities. It was a very warm day and not much cooler at night. The shower water flow was very good and able to set to a nice temperature. Having a key meant I could go for several walks on Sunday morning without disturbing anyone. A lovely atmosphere.
I was meeting family on Sunday morning prior to my departure, and had asked if it was possible to book breakfast for extra, this was not allowed, so we found an alternative location. I couldn't connect with to the internet even through the QR code and instructions on the information sheet within the room, and the TV signal was also lost during the morning from 6am. The restaurant / Tapas close by after 10pm Saturday night was quite loud with their customers coming onto the street, I had left the windows open to get some air and drew the curtains, and with the fan being on too, the noise level from outside was quite loud. I was glad to use one of the back bedrooms to eventually get some sleep. Thank you for putting the fan into the room as it really made a difference. The hairdryer didn't work and the light on the bathroom mirror was also not working. The waste water in the shower didn't drain away very quickly. No allocated parking for residents.
Very clean
The restaurant is closed indefinitely. Needed to know that in advance as v hard to find food on a Monday night. Breakfast not served until 8
Good sized room in a location that suited. Breakfast cooked to order and friendly staff
Plumbing was a bit intrusive but as it is an aged property I don’t think that can be improved much
Lovely room and cute little town near Forrest of Dean and Puzzlewood! The cooked breakfast was a lovely perk too!
Plenty there all in a circle if u don't want to walk far
The public square immediately adjacent to the Angel Hotel was extremely noisy in the early hours of both mornings of my stay. I was kept awake frompeople shouting until after 2am. As result I was very tired during my stay due to poor sleep. Also, the room does not have thick / black-out curtains and so the strong street lights nearby didn't help with sleep either. Overall a good hotel, but its location - or the room I stayed in at least - was very poor. I would not recommend it if needing a good night's undisturbed sleep!
Staff were friendly and enjoyed the full English breakfast! The area we had our breakfast was nice with interesting decor! Bed was comfortable and the location was great for numerous Wye Valley trails!
Room needs some maintenance. Balcony doors couldn’t lock properly, visible stain on carpet and chair, and peeling paint. Rooms got a bit too hot despite the fan.
Quiet comfortable room. Good value for money. Freshly cooked breakfast.
The carpet edges could have been cleaner but it was an old building.
The staff in the morning were helpful with breakfast request.
This is NOT, and SHOULD not be called a family friendly Hotel. Although we were told they shut at 10.30, loud music and drunk patrons, shouting profanities carried on until at least 1.30am. Then this carried on directly beneath our room, with one person vomiting into the street. Confirmed when having to avoid said vomit as we left the property. The children room with two single beds was stifling hot despite the fan on and window open..... The bathroom was a disgrace, broken lock, broken toilet flushing mechanism, broken shower control, flooring that was coming up and a shower tray that didn't drain..... Would request a refund if I thought it possible
Nice friendly atmosphere in the bar, helpful staff and a fabulous breakfast. Easy to get the temperature right in the room. Comfortable bed.
No car parking on site. No evening meals available during our stay (Monday and Tuesday night) but there is a really good takeaway across the square called Coleford Charcoal.
Staff were friendly, room was available early, clean and comfortable.
Nothing.
Great sized family room. Great breakfast. Cooked to perfection. Friendly and helpful staff. Great for my young family.
Nothing
I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The area of the hotel is really nice and central to Coleford. Nice view from the room. Has gluten free breakfast option.
We had booked and paid for a deluxe double room and got put in the standard room. The bath and sink had lots of hairs in them. Pillows very flat. We had breakfast and it was like everything was cooked in oil and overdone, for example the eggs were crunchy but wet with oil!
The room. The atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good value
