The menu was amazing. We had a great time with my Sisters. The guide MJ really went above and beyond for us to make sure we were comfortable during our game drive. The intimacy and privacy of the rooms. The high tea treats were awesome. The staff was really attentive to detail.

Prachtige ligging in Welgevonden GameReserve. Mooie accomodatie met ruime kamers en van alle faciliteiten voorzien. Zeer luxe safaritruck met stoelverwarming. Erg fijne Ranger, MJ. De Gamedrives waren goed, het reservaat is erg mooi! Het eten was van goede kwaliteit. Housekeeping erg leuk, met het mooi opmaken van bedden en dergelijke.

Ons ontvangst en de staff was erg eentonig/ongeinteresseerd. Het leek alsof ze aan vakantie toe waren. Bij het ontvangst was het zelfs dusdanig saai/onvriendelijk dat het echt tegenviel. Geen vrolijke vriendelijke typische Afrikaans ontvangst, maar meer een “hehe moeten we weer goedendag zeggen”. Ook helemaal niet persoonlijk. Behalve Entabi, zij was zeer vriendelijk en persoonlijk! Daarnaast is de kamer wel redelijk gedateerd. Kozijnrot en diverse zaken, maar niet teveel storend.

Travelling in winter, I especially loved how warm and cozy the rooms were made to feel. Heated A/C. Electric blankets. Cozy bedding. Even the safari vehicle had heated seats. Food was tasty and they were accommodating with dietary restrictions. Staff was friendly. Very well located and is not a super long drive on the dirt road from where the safari vehicle collects you. Excellent value for money. The rooms were even better than expected and the view was incredible. They also went out of their way to help celebrate a special occasion

Our villa was set slightly back

I had the pleasure of staying at Clifftop Lodge for two nights to celebrate my birthday, together with my nephew and his partner – and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The chalets are simply breathtaking – beautifully designed, perfectly integrated into the surrounding nature, and offering both comfort and a sense of tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. Waking up to those views was magical. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and beautifully presented. It felt like a fine dining experience in the middle of the wilderness. What really made our stay exceptional, however, was the staff. The entire team was incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making our visit special. Their friendliness and professionalism created a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. All in all, our stay at Clifftop Lodge was absolutely perfect. It was the ideal place to celebrate a special occasion, and we left with wonderful memories that we will cherish for a long time. We would return without hesitation and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly special safari experience.

We loved everything! The view, the beautiful decoration, the room, and the meals were delicious. We were truly spoiled throughout our stay 🥰. The game drives with Tyrone were fantastic. He was a great guide, knows the wildlife extremely well, and was always smiling and in great spirits.

Nothing, except that unfortunately we didn’t have the best weather as it was rainy during our stay. But it didn’t stop us having a wonderful stay.

Zowel de main lodge, terras en de kamers waren sfeerloos ingericht. Ligbedden op terras maar geen parasols. Geen klamboe boven het bed. Vreselijke vitrage voor de grote ramen waardoor het mooie uitzicht niet meer zichtbaar was. Het eten was oké, maar niet geweldig. Als alle huisjes bezet zijn, zit je met 8 mensen in de jeep en kun je vaak niet naast je partner zitten. Het gebied is mooi, maar weinig game gezien. Ranger was weinig geïnteresseerd, zei nauwelijks iets over de beesten en ook niets over de natuur zelf. Het spotten van beesten moest je zelf doen, ranger zelf zag alleen de weg.

Het personeel is super vriendelijk en gastvrij. We hadden een late vlucht en zonder enige moeite konden we gebruik maken van een late check out.

Omdat de accommodatie hoog ligt moet je wel een kwartier rijden voor je game drive echt kan beginnen. Echter maakt het uitzicht op zo’n hoogte veel goed

The food options were a bit limited at times, and our game drives always ended sooner than the other car, around half an hour to an hour sooner which didn’t seem fair in my opinion!

Let`s start with the reserve. Welgevonden is a piece of paradise. Hills, mountains, rivers, plains. From most viewing points you don`t see any signs of civilization. Very clean air, no light pollution, no poaching. The animals are relaxed, rhinos still have a horn, elephants are happily plunging in rivers. Relax and enjoy. The lodge: Fantastic views, very nice public spaces (bar, viewing points, pool...) and spacious, clean and lovely suites. Outstanding however, was the performance of kitchen and service ! We have been to many lodges (also very expensive ones) and the service staff and quality of food was nowwhere as good as at Cifftop lodge. Skilled, competent, friendly, laughing a lot. The dishes were great. I had my best gnocchis (homemade of course) ever. There is always something new to discover on the menu, for example very interesting and tasty combinations with biltong. Each evening you were seated a different table with different views and ambiente. Together with the quality of food and service, dinner always was a highlight of the day (beside the gamedrives of course) and always made you curious of what to expect (but no disappointments at all,of course). And the coffee (high end portafilter coffee machine) was the best in a lodge ever, and................you won`t believe it.... there is two types of draught beer !!! Clifftop offers otstanding value for money! Thanks to everyone and please keep this standard

The setting of the lodge is breathtaking. It was a lovely experience for my wife and I. Our room was overlooking two waterfalls and the sounds were soothing and relaxing. The food was amazing and we were happy with the portions. Our guide was knowledgeable and made our game drives engaging and exciting. An overall good experience and will definitely come back.

Die Lodge liegt im Welgevonden Game Reserve. Zufahrt vom East Gate. Der Transfer erfolgt vom Main Gate über die Teerstrasse zum East Gate. Safari Fahrzeuge sind komplett offen, bei Regen absolut kein Vergnügen. Waren total nass, auch unser Gepäck war durchnässt. Lodge ist von 3 Bächen mit Brücken umgeben. Bei Regenfällen können diese 3 Brücken unpassierbar sein, man steckt also fest. Bei uns waren 2 Brücken nicht passierbar, die Gamedrives also nur zwischen Lodge und East Gate möglich, wirklich langweilig und monoton. Unser Guide meinte, dass auch die letzte Brücke (Ausfahrt) bei den herrschenden Regenfällen bald umpassierbar sei. Wir wollten nicht in der Lodge festsitzen, da wir einen Langstreckenflug ab Johannesburg hatten. Wir haben uns daher entschlossen einen Tag früher abzureisen. Kein Entgegenkommen oder Verständnis vom Management, sehr enttäuschend. Leider ist der Service auch recht unpersönlich. Vielleicht sind die Game Drives in der Trockenzeit super, bei uns mit den upassierbaren Brücken aber absolut nicht lohnenswert. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt absolut nicht.

The fact that I arranged a secret Engagement and booked a wine cellar just to get there and it was doubled booked. This after I have followed up telephonically and confirmed everything. I paid for champagne and had to ask for it, it was not even noted as per the booking consultant as was promised.

Eine wirklich top gelegene Lodge mit fantastischem Ausblick. Die Zimmer sind stilvoll und luxuriös eingerichtet und bieten alle wesentlichen Annehmlichkeiten. Das Highlight für uns waren die Game-Drives, die umsichtig und engagiert durchgeführt wurden. Die Mitarbeitenden waren generell freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Für uns war - gerade im Vergleich zu anderen besuchten Lodges auf unserer Reise, das Essen leider eher enttäuschend. Vor dem Morning Drive gab es einen Cafe und trockene Kekse, so wenig Auswahl hatten wir hier noch nie und so ist man hungrig erst einmal 4 Stunden im Landcruiser gesessen. Auch Vorspeise und Dessert waren wenig kreativ und mit Blick auf das Preisniveau so nicht gerechtfertigt. Die Portionsgrößen waren sehr überschaubar, wir gehen sehr häufig gehoben essen und erwarten keine riesen Portionen - es war aber tatsächlich sehr wenig und mein Hinweis vor dem Servieren des Desserts, dass ich doch noch hungrig bin, wurde elegant ignoriert. Was uns allerdings wirklich gestört hat, war die mehrmalige Betonung der Empfangsdame an der Rezeption - sie wiederholte 6 mal, dass wir ja NUR eine Nacht hier verbringen - ja, wir verbrachten in einigen Lodges tatsächlich nur eine Nacht, da wir eine Rundreise unternommen haben - auch mit Blick auf eine erneute längere Reise, die auch einer Gruppe angeboten wird - und nach dieser Erfahrung muss ich sagen, dass es diese Lodge damit nicht auf unsere Kundenliste geschafft hat - schade, das Potential bezüglich Lage und Gestaltung wäre vorhanden.

Excellent staff, serivice, location and amazing food

Property was close to the gate where we parked. Usually takes 40 minutes in the game viewing vehicle to get to the other lodges. It took around 10 minutes and roads are in better condition. Lodge was not overcrowded. Lots of privacy to appreciate the natural surroundings in your own time. The rooms were better than expected. Staff were courteous and eager to make our stay better. Food was excellent and we could not have asked for more. Got to see the big 5 thanks to our guide Janelle. Hot water bottles and ponchos for the morning game drives was a nice touch.

Beautiful location and magical serenity. Elegant but at the same time casual and friendly. Wonderful staff. And then there is the wildlife!

Cold due to an extra cold winter front. The lodge does the best to keep you warm in those circumstances but a place like this is clearly built for warm weather.

Beautiful location. Having our own pool at the chalet was very much enjoyed. A big thank you to Patric and Nicolas for excellent service in the dining room. Enjoyed our game drives with JD, who was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide.

Informed the lodge we would be twenty minutes late for pickup at the main gate and received a snide response from Gilda. Her smarmy attitude overshadowed our entire stay at the lodge. The room staff were not consistent in rotating or restocking the fridge and tea and coffee facilities. I found dead weevils in the sugar! I do not eat game meat or lamb and found the menu restricting as both were on the served most days. The flavors were sometimes overpowering, spoiling the dish served.
