The guest is the best. The views are amazing. The cultural experience is unmatched. You can do trekking, dinner with the family, etc
Difficult access
We loved our stay and Hillcrest homestay! The cabins were cozy and clean and the view is unbeatable. Up in the hillsides of Sapa was a gorgeous place to stay away from it all. Pe and his family were so welcoming and accommodating. We would love to come back!
This was my second stay with this wonderful family. After my first visit I knew I wanted to return and my second stay was every bit as memorable. The location is part of what makes this homestay so special. It can take a little extra effort to reach, and the remote setting comes with the occasional challenge but it is absolutely worth it! The reward is breathtaking mountain views, complete tranquility and a genuine sense of escaping the busy world. What truly sets this place apart is the host family. They are incredibly warm, welcoming and generous and made me feel less like a guest and more like part of their family. One of the highlights of each day was the family dinner. Enjoying delicious home-cooked meals and being taught how to make the best fried spring rolls was a fantastic and authentic way to experience the local culture. The evenings were some of my favourite memories from Sa Pa. If you’re looking for luxury and convenience above all else, this may not be the place for you. But if you value stunning scenery, genuine hospitality, cultural experiences and peaceful surroundings, I cannot recommend this homestay highly enough! Thank you Pe, Te and your lovely family for the wonderful stay!
Rien
It is was lovely stay, with family welcoming
Forget about luxury, arrive before sunset or ask advice owner, he and his family absolutely adorable and helpful
Location, secluded from main town. Advantage but also could prove to be a bit difficult for those not used to hiking steep hills. The host family is perfectly sweet and warm. Had dinner with them each night. Nothing commercial, just a warm Homestay! With lot of space to hike about.
Beautiful property with a lovely family!
It’s great! If you are not looking for the most luxurious stay, pe’s home is very authentic and charming house. The family is amazing and super welcoming. Far from the craziness of Sapa town and surrounded by rice fields. With views to the fansipan when clouds allow it. Pe also offers hikes around and dinner with his family which are very good. If you come with your own scooter beware of the steep inclines but very doable if you are experienced.
The homestay is at a nice and peacefull location outside Sapa with very nice views from the garden. Dinner with the family and breakfast were excellent. The family was really nice and very helpful with planning out our stay and giving recomendations on hiking routes.
Enorme aanrader!!
Very lovely homestay with many types of foreigners if you are solo traveling and want the option to be social. It has great trekking tours with rutes around Sapa where you don't meet big groups trekking and many times you don't meet any. Pè is a great and funny host, and you feel safe going around with him. He's brother the same. The food is great, and much of the meat or ingredients are from the homestay or the village. The Hmong have an interesting story and way of living, and the family at the homestay is really sweet and humble. They have a nice dog and a cat and lovely kids. The rooms are simple, and the beds are nice, and for the price, it's a great value. It has been my best stay in Vietnam and will come back in the future. The views are amazing, and you can see both sides of the mountains.
Beautiful place, warm nice host, fun interesting people to meet, amazing dinner, great value
only cold water in shower, wifi somettimes disconnecting or very slow
Beautiful location in the rice fields. Pe was the most amazing host, we had the best stay ever. His kindness and thankfulness is something I’ll always remember. We had the most fun going trekking with Pe, his brother and other guests who were staying. His family is also lovely. I would recommend this place to everyone. I hope I can come back sometime!
Nothing
Everything is amazing. The best place to stay on sapa.
Consigliatissimo!
The stay was great, right in the middle of the beautiful rice terraces, and away from the unappealing center of Sapa! Pe and his family are the absolute highlight of this place, they were super kind and welcoming. Plus the bungalow location has an incredibly nice view! Totally recommended. Don't miss the dinner there, delicious
The family you stay with are absolutely incredible!!! The food is incredible and it is such a welcoming place
An amazing stay with the kindest family. The Homestay is tucked away in the Sapa hills (which makes getting there an adventure in itself!) with beautiful views all around and extremely peaceful. We spent our two days here spending time with Pe and his family, ate so much delicious food with them and learnt lots about life in Sapa. We really felt like part of the family and they went above and beyond for my friend’s birthday which was a really special evening. One of my highlights of a month in Vietnam!
Everything, Quite from the city and not that far from down town, you can walk around 45 min or by motorcycle 10 min, Extremely recommended for those who like to stay with family and them animals
Nothing
The cabin I stayed in was the best in Vietnam, with the most amazing views from my beautiful balcony, with orchids and roses all around. There were cheaper options too stay in which are lovely and simple, but I treated myself to their newly built chalet aha stayed 4 nights. Pe and Tay and their families are the kindest people and welcomed me like we were family. The food was amazing, with rice from their fields, honey from their bees and fresh local produce. I met many other lovely people here too. The family are available and very experienced at guiding in the mountains and leading motorbike tours around all the routes, or they were on hand to offer advice when I wanted to explore on my own. I will definitely be going back next year!
There was nothing I didn't like, but some people might find their home very rustic. There are lovely animals, friendly and smart kids (who I loved hanging out with!), and eating and the chill areas are with the family in their home so you really get to experience how local people live (as much as tourists can!).
Tay and his family has been so kind and helpful all our stay. Even in rainy morning, they made to bring us breakfast in the room, we really appreciate that. Being the only guests for the days we stayed, he spontaneously updates our room with the big one with nice view in private toilet. We stayed 3 days, and we had the chance to charge our batteries and sleep a lot, because this place is a bit remote and very very quite all day long. The first evening we had dinner with the family with an extra, and we learned a bit more about Hmong life. Surrounded by nature, local people and farm animals around, it was a lovely experience.
Just an advice if you are going by yourself by motorcycle, avoid to go till the homestay if you are not a confident driver, roads are extremely steep and can be dangerous, mostly during rainy and foggy days, as we had. It's also quite muggy in some parts. In cold days, can be a challenge the shower which is outside and it needs some times to be hot, and it doesn't last too long.
Tay and Mi are a truly welcoming family with a heartfelt sense of service. We enjoyed our stay very much thanks to the moments shared with the family, the tasty dinners, the impressive view from their location, and the functional and confortable bungalow. We highly recommand this place if you want some genuine expérience. Thank you again Tay and Mi !
OMG STOP READING RATINGS, GO AND BOOK IT!!! Great friendly beautiful family will show you Sapa in the raw way, you can have rice from their fields!! AMAZING AND 100% WORTH
I would like to take the time to write a review for the homestay of Pe and his family. It was really fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness of his family. The cute children, his sweet wife, his smiling mother and Pe's genuine interest in others. You can choose to have dinner together with his family and afterwards have a cup of tea by the campfire in his house. I recommend this! It is cozy, nice and snug. I also did the trekking together with Pe and his dog. It made it extra fun that his dog also came along and greeted me every morning with a pat on his head. Super beautiful view and despite the mud and the falls, it was really fun and I had a lot of laughs with Pe. It was a great adventure with the three of us. Really recommended to choose this homestay!
Lovely family! I was so happy and felt so good to share my days with them. The way to arrive is a little hard, I guess it’s better with good weather. But the cabins are nice and comfortable.
The free breakfast was so good and healthy , the location for a nature lover and away from city is soo good. The family were very accommodating from pick up by the Owner himself where the grab can drop us because its raining and the send off by the father were all safe . First time in Sapa- I choose the country side and it was great with all the family taking care of us as we did not came and expected the route to be not easy that time. But the way the Owner provided us a late lunch, dinner and breakfast were all superb and We will come back again with my children- by Gods grace
actually if you are flexible and love the simple life - nothing that you will not like (", the scenery, the weather, the serene and away from city is just the way I like it
In one word, just wow! Pe and his family are amazing people with a very good heart. We felt like part of the family and it was an absolutely amazing experience. If you want to experience a real homestay and not some commercial place for tourists, we recommend recommend recommend! Thank you very much again and we would love to visit you again someday ❤️
Quiet, peaceful and charming place with very kind hosts.
Location is a minus if it is rainy day. You will need to walk around 20 minutes until the closest spot for a taxi.
Pe and his family were so incredibly welcoming and giving. Breakfast was a delicious rice pancake, bananas and honey. Dinner and lunch are a small additional charge. They were so accommodating as I'm vegan, and provided a beautiful spread of food that we got to each with the whole family. It consisted of rice from their paddys, veggies from their garden, and tofu. The google maps pin is spot on, but it is a crazy road to get there. Definitely do not drive a bike unless you are 100% confident in your abilities. Taxis in town will not take you the full way due to the small roads, and will most likely get lost. It's best to ask Pe to arrange a taxi for you. There are some lovely walks around the area, but equally it's so peaceful and tranquil so perfect if you want to have some quiet time staring at the rice paddys, or around the fire. A change from the manic cities and to be able to get an insight into their amazing culture. Thank you Pe!
Just and fyi there are 2 shared bathrooms (unless you're in the big deluxe bungalow I believe), and there is no WiFi, but 4g worked fine :)
TLDR: I can’t recommend it enough! Thank you so much to Pe and his wonderful family. I came as a solo traveller and felt welcomed into the family straight away. They shared tasty, healthy meals with us that were varied each day, and tailored to me as a vegetarian which I really appreciated. Pancakes, aubergine, tofu, rice wine “happy water”…they always made sure I was well fed with genuine hospitality. Pe is an innovator - he came up with the idea of a homestay and started building it himself as a way to support his family. There are beautiful views of the rice field, a fire pit, showers, friendly dogs - what more convincing do you need?? There is still work to be done on the property so expect it to change a little each visit e.g. when I stayed he was making stairs so the path is easier. He is hardworking yet humble and positive - this was a refreshing environment for me to experience that has helped me realise how I should approach challenge in my own life. It’s worth noting when I stayed there was no WiFi but I’m not sure if this is always the case! It helped me embrace the rural experience and I really enjoyed trekking with his family whilst teaching them English words. He is very keen to get volunteers to teach English so if you are TEFL trained please please visit! :) Taxis don’t always know the way so you can ring Pe if they get confused and get him to clarify the address :)
Beautiful place, beautiful view, beautiful tours, beautiful family ❤️
Pe's homestay is a perfect place to explore Sapa and the surrounding area. It is remote but that means you are right on the trails and paths of the area. Pe and his brother are trained guides so he took us out for the day's trekking, which was fun as well as beautiful (the price is 400k each). He was also very helpful at booking us taxis into Sapa when we needed it. We stayed in the deluxe bungalow which has its own veranda and a lovely view of the valley. It also has its own bathroom and some more space than the other rooms. Pe provides pancakes for breakfast as well as dinner if you'd like it (the price is 125k each for dinner), served family style with his family and other travellers. Dinner is delicious and there's lots of it. Pe's family and his dog are all very welcoming, and it was one of our favourite stays in our Vietnam trip so far to spend a few days in the mountains with them!
The homestay is very remote and down a very steep road so the taxi ride can feel a bit scary! It's doable and Pe was very helpful booking the taxis and collecting us from where the taxi dropped us off near his place but it's worth being aware. A one-way taxi to/from Sapa costs 200k. Pe and his family have built all of the accommodation themselves and have only been running the homestay for 6 months which is a huge achievement but it does mean the finish is still a little rustic and unfinished in places - eg we didn't have hot water in our private bathroom so still needed to use the shared bathroom to shower. Overall those small things didn't detract from our wonderful stay and we'd highly recommend it, especially for the price and the benefit of a true homestay!
What an hiden gem we found here !! This place it’s just insane, a bit difficult to find but totally worth it !! You will be on the top on an hill with a stunning view ! If you are looking for something quiet in the crazy touristic city of sapa, it’s the place to go ! You are perfectly located for everything! The family is absolutely kind and the dinner is perfect ! You can enjoy a fresh beer around a bond fire in the evening
We stayed for one night and it was amazing! At first we had some problems with transport to the homestay, but we managed to get to the homestay by motorbike. The road is a bit bumpy, but the pin on the map is accurate and it’s also an easy walk down the hill from the main street. Pe, his brother and whole family were very friendly and kind! We did short walk around and had family dinner with them - food was delicious and it was a great experience for us! Accommodation was clean and modern, hot shower and clean bedsheets ;)) In the morning Pe’s family made pancakes and organised a ride back to Sapa city to catch our bus for us. Soo kind, thanks!
Everything was perfect!
Perfect place to get away from Sapa stress. The host is really nice and always happy to help in anything or even to show you around. You will get to know all his family and even take part in their daily life if you wish. Really recommended.
Very nice family with whom you can share a lot Delicious breakfast with Vietnamese coffee, pancakes with local honey, and mangos or bananas.
Pe, the host, is the nicest person you'll meet in Sapa. He will try to help you in whatever way he can. The family really welcomes you with open arms, and eating dinner with them every night really shows you Vietnamese culture. Pe's brother also offers trekking tours through the mountains, which I did for one day. We barely saw any other tourists, even though there are many in Sapa, and we also got to swim at a waterfall. The cabin itself is really neat and cosy, and the showers are good. Tip: if you bring nail pollish, you'll instantly make friends with the little girls in the family😊
The location is a bit outside of Sapa, but Pe can help you get a taxi for a fair price.
We had a beatuful 4 night stay there. Pe and his family were very welcoming and helpful. The stay is located in perfect distance to Sa Pa so you could enjoy nature while quickly being in the center. From the homestay you have a beautiful view over the valley and the rice fields. If you have the possibility we would highly recommend you eating dinner with the family. The food is amazing!
We had an amazing 2 nights stay at the Hillcrest Homestay. We booked the deluxe bungalow and the view was just astonishing. The family was super friendly and provided us with everything we needed. The Homestay is only staring up but so far they were doing a wonderful job. The 2 brothers who run the place both speak very well English and are certified guides for the Fansipan. If you are up for the challenge, we would definitely recommend the 1 day hike of the highest mountain of Vietnam. They also offer a walk through the villages and rice fields, far away from the paved pathways everyone takes. Lastly we joined the family dinner (for a small surplus) where they served amazing food. It was a real authentic experience. Just as an fyi, if you are coming from Sapa we would recommend to just rent a motorbike for the duration of the stay. Bike rental is cheap in Vietnam and part of road to the Homestay is difficult to reach by car.
Just WOW. We were so amazed by this places! The views?! The family?! Everything was just perfect, we felt like part of the family. If i could, I’d definitely spent like month here. Thank you for having us!
Okay, so usually I don’t write reviews, so this one is special, Pe and his family is a MUST stay in Sapa, they’re the closest to a family I had in Vietnam, warm welcome, cozy stay and a lot to learn about them, plus the best Family dinners. I sincerely hope that his homestay will be the most recommended in Sapa because God knows this guys are Great!
How I was treated like another member of the family
Staying with Pe and his lovely family on their farm/homestay was one of the best and most authentic experiences in Vietnam for us. They were very kind and you get to know them and their culture over dinner. The food was good, fresh and there was always plenty for everyone. We stayed 4 nights and loved every second of it. The trekking we did with them was beautiful as well.
The accommodation is at the top of a small hill. From there you have a beautiful view at the rice fields. I did two small hikes, one I did through the rice fields and the other one through a bamboo Forest and to the CatCat Village. For dinner you can join the Family at the Family Dinner.
It is really rustic. But if you don’t mind what makes this stay particularly great is the very friendly family as well as the peaceful location. The brothers are great guides, too. If you’ve seen all the rice terraces and don’t mind a bit of sweat I highly recommend a guided hike in the forest, up the other side of the valley. This is how I pictured Vietnam before I went there (apart from the rice fields).
The unforgettable views of rice fields, the delicious meals cooked by our hosts and their life stories filled us with so much love and laughter. They were incredibly kind, generous and loving. If you’re looking for a true local experience, it should be here!
Such an amazing experience! Pe Thao was a wonderful host. He boasted with energy and enthusiasm. The views were spectacular & some of the best trekking we’ve done in Southeast Asia. The family was welcoming and the homestay was filled with animals and children. It was truely an authentic experience!
Not an issue, just a warning: the accommodation is not accurate on google maps. So message the host beforehand to get the best route to the accommodation. Also, do not try to drive an automatic motorbike down the mountain to the homestay. Our bike along with others brakes went out! A manual bike worked much better!
Simple, authentic, quiet accommodation at a family's home. We stayed in the bungalow, it was big enough, the bed was comfortable, there was cold shower inside and warm shower outside in another building. Breakfast was good with pancakes, bananas, chocolate syrup, honey. The first day's coffee was very good.
There weren't any furniture on the terracee. We found one chair in the bungalow and another one in the garden. Two plastc chairs and a small table would make the terrace useable and comfortable. A rack with some hangers would be useful in the bungalow since there is nowhere to put cloths or wet towels.
Our stay at Sapa Hillcrest Homestay was perfect. Pe Thao and his family welcomed us with open arms in their farm. We could really feel as part of the family. Stay here if you want to live an authentic Vietnamese experience in Sapa. The view is incredible. Pe Thao can help you for anything (taxi, hiking tour …) You can go there by walk is you are a bit sportive 😉 (1h from Sapa). Thanks !
1. Pe Thao was such an amazing, helpful, and funny host. He will do anything for you the second you ask, has lots of expertise on the area, gives you suggestions for hikes and even works as a guide if you like. Hard to put in words how nice he was! Made us a campfire, knitted bracelets together, … 2. the rest of the family (+the dogs!) were super nice too! We did entire hikes with one of the dogs which was so cute 3. good breakfast for free, cheap and amazing (!!) family dinner! 4. the comfiest and softest beds in whole Vietnam. Summary: Like living with an authentic, modest Hmong family. For us the perfect place to be in sapa. (We extended twice) Be aware that apart from the deluxe bungalow this place is not luxurious! But if you’re looking for someplace authentic, look no further.
Absolutley lovely family who run the place, super helpful and just wanted me to have the best time while I was there!
A real family atmosphere with kids playing around and cute animals (especially the dogs). The owners are super friendly and helpful with planning hikes. Dinner is (if you want) with the whole family and super delicious. Also the breakfast is absolutely recommended. Location is quite remote but scenic in the hills with great views (even on fransipan).
It’s quite hard to reach by taxi or by motorbike so best to hike there (ask owners for the best route).
What a great experience with this lovely family! The authenticity, the views, the food, we had the best time. Definitely the best experience in Vietnam so far!
It’s very basic, which was not a problem for us but just giving a fair warning if you are used to western comfort.
Amazing host, great food, wonderful atmosphere, and an overall pleasant experience!
Difficult to find due to the roads not being registered by google maps
