Problems with the TV. It worked, but as soon as you turned the channel over, TV went to a black screen, so I had to turn the TV off on the wall and turn back on.

The fact I was paid my csr park deposit back then charged again to wait a week for it to come back witch coursed me alot of stress as that money was for different accommodation and had to sleep I. My car for a week

The staff were incredibly tentative, especially both daily managers very approachable, helpful and chatty if you want to chat or help on where to visit in Northumberland. The food was very enjoyable, cooked and presented very well. The food is definitely priced reasonably as well. The room was decorated lovely and the whole place just looked sharp and very cozy. The hotel is a great home base for traveling Northumberland.

Just a couple of small things to note that didn’t really affect the fantastic stay. The dressing table chair had a small sharp nail or staple that caught my wife’s trousers, but the reception said they will deal with it. There is an unexpected £10 overnight parking charge. Breakfast was £15 which was fine… but the leaflet in the room mentioned it was then an extra £5 for a full English buffet, luckily in the morning there was no extra £5 charge. The shower although lovely and strong is on mixer taps and was difficult to find that perfect temperature, the temperature did keep fluctuating while not touching the taps. The bar area would benefit from a few more sofa areas or cozy areas to sit after a meal for a drink, me and the wife did find a couple of chairs but they seemed to be the only two.

Great location for what we needed. Rooms comfortable with good facilities including a fridge. Manager Mac was outstanding - friendly, helpful and professional.

The rooms didn’t have aircon but fans were provided which did keep the rooms cool.

The Portland was conveniently located a short walk away from Ashington Train Station. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant and reception areas looked very clean, tidy and inviting. The Manager was very friendly and showed me how the side door worked (for after hours access) and showed me to my room. I couldn't fault the staff, from check-in to check-out they were all excellent.

I booked a ‘Premium’ room, but it felt more like a standard room. While the room was generally tidy and presented reasonably well, it would have benefited from some extra care and attention. There were marks on the walls, and the carpets were either stained or noticeably well worn. The dome lights also had dead bugs or flies inside them, which was disappointing. In the bathroom, the skirting board, particularly near the shower, looked rather dirty. Although this may have been outside the hotel’s control, the room was also very warm. A fan had kindly been provided, but I chose not to use it as the blades looked quite dusty. Overall, the room was acceptable, but it did not quite meet the expectations I had for a ‘Premium’ room.

Disappointed with an expensive breakfast which was badly cooked given that we had a great dinner the previous night which was also good value for money .

We liked the size of the room and it's cleanliness ..we were in one of the lodges at the back...the decor, ornaments, and furniture was beautiful ..The gentleman on the desk was really helpful and friendly...we would definitely go back.

We thought the breakfast price was a bit pricey at £15 pound a head although we were told there was plenty choice..Our only other thing we noticed was that the heated towel rail needed a good scrub and also the shower door...the soap dispenser also needed cleaning...like we say though we would definitely go back

The staff, manager and owner of the hotel were amazing they could not do enough for myself and my husband who was taken ill . They certainly went the extra mile to accommodate our needs , nothing was too much trouble for them .

We are cycling along the coastal path and this was a good place to stay and not too far a detour. The staff were friendly and relaxed, looked after our bikes, rhe food was very good, the room comfortable with a nice hot shower

All of the staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was very nice.

The room (20) would benefit from a curtain rail adjustment as I was unable to close it fully and the sunlight hampered our sleep. The £10 parking charge. £4 for two small bottles of water.

Fantastic hotel perfect for exploring the Northumberland coast.

The parking fee needs to be revised. It's s little steep if your staying at the Portland, when 25m away it's free.

The people were very helpful and the rooms were comfortable.

The main public area (Pub area) needs a good deep clean and the air filtration/ extractor system requires some attention.

Landscaping going on to provide a beautiful setting for the new wedding venue which I look forward to seeing in the future but the disruption kept to a minimum during my stay and of course had to be happening.

Fantastic check in with the very friendly manager on site, he showed me to my room and told me all about the hotel, facilities and checked if I was having dinner so that I had enough time to order. Dinner was great, fantastic value for money. The room was spacious, plenty of room for me to move about. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.

Nothing major to call out. The pump in the bathroom was a little noisy but only when running water / flushing the toilet

The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar food was excellent, much better than would be expected at this hotel price point, interesting choices, good quality and well cooked; this alone would entice me to stay again.

Overall, my room was clean and pleasant, but there were a few niggles which could be easily sorted out with a little maintenance. One of the main overhead lights didn't work, the light above the mirror in the bathroom, which would have been nice for shaving, didn't work. My main frustration was with the shower mixer, which was clearly broken and required artful adjustment to get a warm shower, rather than too cold or hot. As others have mentioned, the £10/night parking fee seems excessive.

I was charged extra for parking in a dedicated car park. What’s the point of booking. Com discounting costs if an additional charge is applied. Especially one as fundamental as a parking charge in a hotel with a dedicated car park.

This hotel had a warm feeling, great location close to the station. The staff, notably Mac, were very friendly and welcoming. The decor was cosy and the food & drinks were great value for money. The homemade cocktails were a highlight!

Very clean, nicely presented and decorated. Lovely room. (Free upgrade) Of particular note was the manager, smart, professional, very attentive to the needs and wellbeing of the guests. He never stopped going round making sure everyone and everything was ok. My partner is manager at a prestigious hotel and even she was impressed with this hotel manager.

Few minor hiccups Remote was missing do tv and asked a member of staff about it of which someone came to room to check what model tv was to never return with a remote When at the meal in the evening we were still eating our starters and a server appeared with the mains when asked if they could be taken back was told well they are ready now so felt rushed to finish starters so could enjoy mains hot food was amazing just felt rushed

Brilliant staff friendly and welcoming. Room was lovely and warm and had everything needed for a stay. Hairdryer, ironing and board, kettle with various items to drink. We had 2 rooms one with a bath and one with shower both were great. Plenty of towels too. Bar and food were good plenty of selection and the breakfast and bacon butties were full of lots of bacon and were delicious.

Parking was £10 which i must have missed when booking. Saying that though the car park had plenty of space and was very close to everything.

Checking in and out was easy and welcoming, the staff were all lovely! The bed was comfy and the room was very clean and well presented. The bathroom was perfect, heated and clean. The room was lovely and warm and had excellent tea/coffee facilities and also a mini fridge! If I visit the area again I would definitely return!

Lovely room in a new building behind the hotel/pub itself. Very quiet so, got a great night's sleep. Fantastic cooked breakfast in the morning that set me up for the rest of the day. Friendly staff....in particular Mack who made me feel right at home. Would recommend to anyone travelling to this part of the world.

My only gripe would be the £10 charge to park my car on the car park overnight.
