Everything, the perfect stay! The hosts are so kind and the breakfast is incredible (yoghurt is to die for)

Could not fault a thing

Owners were super friendly. The cabin was in a beautiful setting and immaculatly kept. Even in winter it was lovely. There is a great Aircon unit but there were also very soft dressing gowns and hot weaties provided. The breakfast was also amazing. I'm going to forever be chasing the homemade yoghurt and fruit mix. On a large enough road that it's easy to find, but noise isn't a problem at all.

Breakfast was delicious and generous. The cabin was immaculate, thoughtfully outfitted.

A lovely rural setting. Comfortable and warm ( winter ) with everything we needed. Especially appreciated being offered an upgrade.

We loved this little cottage! Cows right outside. Beautiful green views. Friendly host. The breakfast was fantastic!!! I highly rate the passionfruit yoghurt.

What an absolutely beautiful stay for our wedding in Hobbiton! 💕 The views were incredible and we were so nice and cosy. We loved the sweet little touches that Alyson and Tim included, and the wonderful breakfast. Alyson even helped my husband with his suit and tie when he was leaving for the wedding.. not only an air BnB host, but also emotional support 💒😄 It’s the little things that take an air BnB from great to fantastic! Thank you so much for everything and we will never forget our stay here 🐄🏔️

The location was excellent and the breakfast was a lovely surprise. Hosts were very friendly and were happy to give us our privacy. We loved all the little details they clearly put into our stay.

The shower only had hot water for two minutes tops before going ice cold without warning - we assume this is part of their conservation efforts, which is understandable but made for less than satisfying showering experiences!

Our stay at Matamata Lodge was one of the best experiences we’ve had in New Zealand. The views were absolutely stunning. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, we could watch cattle peacefully grazing while cloud-covered mountains created a breathtaking backdrop without any interruptions. The cabin we stayed in was very comfortable and had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing stay. We also received breakfast every day, which was a lovely addition. Overall, the stay was peaceful, refreshing, and truly worth every penny.

The room looks clean! You just have to check some stuff to make sure they're clean, like utensils and other things hidden. Overall, with the view and a decent room to stay in, you get your money's worth!

Location was superb - very quiet and tranquil- we were visiting Hobbiton and we also visited Rotorua. The breakfast every day was lovely and our host Chey (Allyson’s daughter) was friendly and knowledgeable. Bed was really comfy.

Die Straße führt vor dem Cabin vorbei, so dass wir die Autogeräusche sehr störend empfunden haben. Im Übrigen liegt es doch recht weit außerhalb, um abends essen zu fahren.

It was in a beautiful peaceful location. We stayed in the Cabin and had a very relaxing stay. The Cabin had all that we needed and the breakfast was sumptuous. Would highly recommend this place.

Everything was perfect, Alyson was super friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home! Breakfast was amazing, views were amazing and hands down one of the most beautiful places we stayed in New Zealand it had everything we needed and the little details and additions were a real bonus. After having a nightmare stay somewhere else we called Alyson to ask if we could check in a day earlier and we were so glad we did as it would have been such a shame to only stay one night, thank you so much for having us and making us feel at home!! We cannot recommend this place enough and we will miss it and the beautiful views when we leave tomorrow morning!!

We stayed in ‘The Cabin’ it was amazing very comfortable and very clean The view of the mountains was stunning there were also cows and a goat in the field outside It had a well equipped kitchen area with a lovely garden and BBQ The breakfast in the morning was really lovely and tasty I would highly recommend Matamata Lodge

Hospitality and warm welcome!

De locatie ligt op 20 minuten rijden van hobitton en is een perfecte uitvalsbasis. Matamata ligt op 12 minuten. Erg mooi gelegen met uitzicht op de groen heuvels.

Excellent breakfast provided, beautiful spot not too far from Hobbiton etc on our way from Hamilton to Auckland - we booked two separate beds in a single King studio space. Later standard check-in time was appreciated. Easy to find lockbox etc after dark.

Initial request for separate beds didn't seem to go through via Booking.com but assume not hosts' fault - I checked by messenger before arrival and the hosts sorted it very efficiently and pleasantly.

A little hidden gem just a short drive from Matamata township! My partner and I booked this accomodation for our visit to Hobbiton and it was truly wonderful! We arrived quite late and had an easy check-in experience. The bed was comfy, the room was spotless and breakfast was included, which included home cooked muffins. Then to top it off, in the morning we were delighted with a magical view of the mountains and a paddock of cattle! I would definitely recommend this accomodation! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Absolutely beautiful place to stay overlooking the land and animals. Very quiet and extremely comfortable with everything you could possibly require for an overnight stay. A continential breakfast was also supplied. Our host, Alyson, was lovely and helpful.

Very easy to book and communicate with hosts. Friendly and inviting attitude, welcoming upon arrival. Accomodation is superb. Wonderfully comfortable with everything one could possibly need at your fingertips. Very well organised home away from home. Breakfast is wonderful. For a basically instant continental breakfast we were in for a treat. The views all around are stunning. It's a pity we were only there for one night. Next time. Thank you.

Having to leave was the only thing wrong with this little piece of heaven.

Close to Wairere Waterfall (only 7km away) and right on the side of the road (but very quiet). The host was very friendly and the cabin tastefully decorated and the facilities well equipped. The scenery in the morning mist was amazing.

Comfortable, spotlessly clean, bright and spacious studio apartment, a 10 minute drive from Matamata and 20-25 min from Hobbiton. Quiet pastoral location. Breakfast provided by host with toast , muesli, muffins, yoghurt and juice plus Nepresso coffee machine. Great shower. There was a BBQ available but we went into Matamata for dinner. Host provided clear instructions about access and helpful dinner recommendations.

The weather!

It’s a great location from nearby attractions and town. The lodge itself is amazing, surrounding by mountains and nature, and plenty of friendly farm animals. The cows are super cute and friendly. The hosts provided an amazing breakfast with juice, milk, bread, muffin, waffles and plenty more. The weather was average but we spent the evening playing board games and enjoying the surrounding. The BNB is located in a peaceful rural setting and the interior design of the accommodation shows great attention to detail. It is very clean and comfortable and Alyson the owner is lovely to deal with.

We loved our stay at Okauia Lodge. The location blew us away, it was beautiful sitting outside looking up into the hillside. Our host Alyson was amazing. The breakfast she provided was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are wanting a relaxed farm stay near Matamata and Hobbiton.

Had a wonderful stay! The lodge was cozy and thoughtfully decorated with many lovely details that made it feel extra special. The breakfast was delicious. Alyson graciously welcomed us upon arrival and let us know we could reach out with any questions. The photos online definitely showed the beautiful landscape, but seeing it in person was even better. They did a great job with making good use of the space. Very clean and such a cozy feeling. We would love to stay here again!

Breakfast was a perfect little type of European breakfast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Had we thought about it earlier we would have stayed 2 nights here instead of Auckland.

There wasn’t anything that we didn’t LOVE about this place. Everything exceeded our expectations and the host, Alyson, was fabulous and very welcoming.

We loved absolutely everything about this place. Instructions were extremely clear - from the messages to the place itself. The cows out back were just so friendly and cute to be around. The place itself had everything and more! The breakfast was such a lovely add and the host was very easily available via messages. Would highly recommend!

Everything was just ‘Perfect’. Wonderful location, a short drive outside Matamarta but fabulous views & so peaceful. Lovely deck area to sit out on in the evening & small garden area to enjoy breakfast & enjoy the lovely sunshine. The B& was really nicely decorated, lovely comfy bed & beautiful crisp bed linen. The whole place was so relaxing. I would absolutely recommend this place for two people.

The lodge was in such a beautiful location with rolling hills in the background. Our room was well equipped with a great kitchenette, eating area, en-suite and comfortable bedding. I loved the small details including providing two luggage racks for us and breakfast. Their dog was adorable too!

The rest of the property was incredibly clean but would suggest a good clean of the shower head.

Great location, the views were amazing, really good use of space and the bungalow is quite spacious for the size

Lovely stay on a farm, with stunning views and perfect weather. We really enjoyed the little apartment. The bed was so comfy and the water was nice and hot. Loved the little breakfast in the morning as well. Alyson and Tim were great hosts, super friendly and interesting to chat with! Couldn’t ask for a better experience!
