Dongdaemun Karrot Hostel

Un excellent séjour à Séoul – je recommande vivement ! Nous avons passé un excellent séjour de 7 nuits au Dongdaemun Karrot Hostel. L’établissement est très confortable, calme, propre et dispose de tout le nécessaire pour passer un agréable séjour, notamment la climatisation et une bonne intimité dans les chambres. Tout le nécessaire pour la salle de bain et la douche était à disposition : serviettes, différents types de savon, shampoing et autres produits utiles. Le Wi-Fi est également très rapide et fonctionne parfaitement dans toutes les chambres. Mais ce que j’ai le plus apprécié, c’est surtout la gentillesse exceptionnelle du personnel. Ils sont extrêmement accueillants, polis, respectueux et toujours prêts à aider. Ils vous donnent volontiers des conseils et des informations utiles sur Séoul et la Corée, parfois même avant que vous ayez besoin de demander quoi que ce soit. C’est la première fois, parmi tous mes séjours dans des hôtels et hébergements, qu’un propriétaire prend lui-même le temps de m’expliquer où sont rangées les fournitures et me dit de me servir librement si j’ai besoin de quelque chose ou si quelque chose vient à manquer. J’ai trouvé cette attention vraiment remarquable et très appréciable. L’emplacement est également excellent. L’établissement se trouve dans un quartier très vivant, au cœur des marchés populaires coréens, tout en restant calme pour se reposer. Il est très bien situé pour découvrir Séoul et permet de rejoindre facilement de nombreux sites touristiques. Il se trouve à proximité de deux stations de métro desservant notamment les lignes 1 et 4, ainsi que de plusieurs arrêts de transports en commun, ce qui rend les déplacements dans Séoul particulièrement faciles. Notre séjour a été plus qu’agréable. Nous nous sommes sentis très bien accueillis et nous garderons un excellent souvenir de notre passage ici.

The manager was incredibly kind and helpful. He is fluent in both English and Chinese, allowing effective communication with all types of guests. The location is pretty accessible and near bus and metro stations.

Fui para a Coreia com a minha mãe, e ficamos mais de vinte dias neste local. Posso dizer com confiança que iria novamente! A localização, apesar de parecer suspeito, é muito seguro e perfeito por estar bem na frente do ônibus e perto da estação de metrô. Pertíssimo da feira Gwanjang e dá para ir em outros pontos populares a pé. Há até mesmo uma rua só de comida! O staff é super atencioso, e até nos ajudou em momentos. O interior em si parece um pouco antigo, mas para quem procura localização e praticidade (que foi o nosso caso), recomendo fortemente.

Great location, close to a lot of buses and the metro. It was also walking distance to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Cheonggyecheon Stream, the famous Gwangjang Market and a starting point to the Seoul City Wall Hike. Also pretty close in metro to the two biggest palaces in Seoul. Location is its main point. Air condition works well, and it has unlimited access to toiler paper, soap, shampoo and conditioner. You can also use washer/drier for free (but you have to buy your own detergent).

The rooms need extensive upkeep. Although the mattresses themselves are good, the beds are very flimsy and broke apart easily (if you are heavier in terms of weight, this place might not be for you). I saw some insects in the shower at one point. Since this is a hostel, don't expect constant clean up, is more or less on you to keep your room tidy and in good order, you take your own trash yourself. Also something to get used to is that instead of normal towels, they provide a bunch of small ones (but you can keep changing them, so it's in a way more hygienic). If you are a younger traveler this is a good option to save some money, and I might go again on my own. But since I was with my parents and they were a bit older, they struggled a bit with these "comfort" things.

L'emplacement dans Séoul. Très bien situé. Quartier populaire central et agréable proches des commerces (plusieurs grands marchés) et des temples. Personnel très agréable. Chambre avec une fenêtre. Rapport qualité prix très correct pour une chambre avec 3 lits au centre de Séoul, bien qu'un peu vétuste.

Fenêtre mal insonorisé . Prévenir que l'ascenseur ne monte pas jusqu'à la chambre et que le ménage n'est fait que tous les 5 jours. 1 multiprise en mauvais état. Peinture de la salle de bain qui s'écaille un peu. Serviettes de bain un peu petites.

・東大門にも近く歩いて広蔵市場に行けるのが良かった ・中部市場もバスを使えば近い ・地下鉄1号線は徒歩4分で好立地 ・ベッドが清潔 ・ドライヤーの風圧良かった ・たまたま2階の部屋だったためエレベーターのみで移動できた ・タオルが部屋にたくさんあった ・窓は小さいが環境はできる 4泊5日の1人渡韓でしたが急遽1泊分予約しないといけなくなりこちらにお世話になりました。メッセージのやり取りも返事が返ってこない時もありましたが比較的にスムーズでした。 帰国日にチェックアウトだったので広蔵市場に歩いて行ける点はとてもよかったです。おかげで日曜日の混む前にたどり着けました！ 家族や友達と泊まるにはうーんって感じですが1人なら十分です！館内は禁煙ですが入口でて左側の大きな鉢があるとこで喫煙OKとのことでした。

・シャワールームが全体的にボロボロ、匂いが少しキツイ ・冷蔵庫がいつの？ってくらい古くて不衛生ぽかった ・周辺が風俗街ですが明るい時間帯は大丈夫そう ・部屋に置いてあるティッシュが取り出しにくい ・駅までの道がガタガタなため大きいキャリー持っている人は少ししんどい ・隣の部屋の音が結構聞こえる

細い路地にあるホテルでしたが、場所がわかりにくかったです 洗濯機が故障中だったらしく、フロント周辺に洗濯前のシーツやタオルが山積みになっていました

Lo mejor es la ubicación, cerca de varios puntos turísticos y conectado con todo con colectivos y subte. Hay muchos mercados, tiendas de conveniencia, tiendas de ropa, farmacias, puestos de comida en la calle y locales de comida de todo tipo. También está el mercado de telas, accesorios para costura, artesanías, bijouterie, etc, que son 4 edificios conectados con varios pisos. Además está cerca de la zona de shoppings con todo tipo de productos para elegir, el Dongdaemun Design Plaza y la puerta de Heunginjimun. El encargado Sam muy atento, con excelente nivel de inglés, incluso me ayudó a comprar una laptop y también a pedir comida por delivery. Aconsejo leer detenidamente la descripción del hostel, yo tenía diferentes expectativas pero cuando llegué volví a leer la descripción y en realidad estaba todo detallado.

El lugar queda dentro de una galería y se entra por un callejón muy pequeño, al principio no me gustó pero después terminé acostumbrándome y la verdad que era todo muy seguro. La habitación era pequeña y no había mucho espacio para poner equipaje y otras cosas, no había ventanas ni en la habitación ni el baño y se sentía olor a humedad. Por suerte había aire acondicionado. En la descripción dice que el lugar tiene cocina compartida pero es solo un microondas y dispenser de agua caliente y fría. Tampoco había toallones, solo toallas de mano. Por eso aconsejo leer bien la descripción porque todo esto está detallado, solo que yo leí "cocina compartida" y pensé que habría pileta para lavar, utensilios, hornallas, pava eléctrica, etc. Tampoco había reparado en que no iba a haber toallones. No hay cortina de ducha ni mampara, y para ducharte te dan ojotas antideslizantes. No estoy segura pero creo que la heladera que está dentro de la habitación se apagaba cuando te ibas. Por el precio estuvo bien, pero no volvería, sentí un poco de claustrofobia.

Idéalement situé près des transports en commun et dans un quartier vivant. Chambre correcte pour 1 personne (un peu petit si vous venez a 2). Machine a laver et seche linge a disposition, c'est un très gros avantage. Proximité immédiate du bus pour l'aéroport ! L'hôte est très agréable et parle très bien anglais ce qui facilite la communication.

Le wifi ne fonctionnait pas. Le lit etait beaucoup trop dur.

Overall the hotel was clean and the location was great. Close to food markets, had a private bathroom for each room, and had what we needed.

The first room we were placed in had an A/C that wasn't working. They were able to switch us to another room, which we appreciated, but the first night was pretty uncomfortable. We had to ask to be switched to another room and at first were told that the technician wouldn't be able to come out over the weekend. It seemed they may have put someone else in that room afterwards knowing the AC wasn't working. We had to open the windows to make the room bearable and got over 30 mosquito bites in total that night. In addition, the hotel is located in an alleyway that is in the red light district. Some folks would want to be mindful of that!

Amazing place, could not recommend more. Great location right near the Gwangjang markets, in a very immersive Korean area. Clean and hospitable. Host was super friendly. My favourite stay in Seoul.

Everything was great, they explained everything quickly, the room was clean and cozy, the air conditioning worked, there are many markets and attractions nearby, and there is a metro station nearby.

Very centrally located. Lovely staff, and nice room with a comfy bed.

The only thing to note is that this is a budget hotel. That means that your room will only be serviced once every 5 nights - but for the price, it's worth it! Additionally, the towels are only hand towel sized.

We love the prompt response from the host even prior to our arrival until our departure. Sam is exceptionally helpful with even recommending us places to eat! The location is perfect, near and within walking distance to subway stations, bus stations and malls/markets as well as local restaurants. Definitely recommended! This was our first visit to Seoul/South Korea and we've even discussed about going back and stay in the same place. One week went by way too fast!

Near to Bus Stop (Airport) n Metro Station

No restaurant or place for waiting while waiting for room check-in @ 1500hrs

so the entrance of the room is right inbetween "love houses" where men can enter for some nightly fun. While that was a bit weird, we didn't suffer too much from that fact. The beds however were uncomfortable and just a hard spring mattress. I didn't find it too clean but adequate. For the price it was okay but I wouldn't really go there again sadly..

Towels not good.

The staff and owner of the hostel were really nice and accommodating. They allowed us to leave our luggage before and after check-out since we have scheduled plans during those times. The place is also near the bus and train station which makes it easier to transfer from one destination to another.

- There's no bidet (but I think this isn't a thing in Korea? haha) - Our room was in the fourth floor, so we need to climb a narrow stair since the elevator is until the 3rd floor only. Not a big problem, but it's challenging in case you have a lot of luggages. - The room is quite small for 3 people with large luggages, just a thing to consider if you're looking for something more spacious. But it's not really an issue if you consider the hostel as a place to sleep in/storage only.

The location is good near to bus stop and Subway.

Without falling into the luxury category, the property offers exactly what a traveler needs, everything is functional. The location is perfect, I liked the way everything is organized to please the traveler, to meet his needs.

There is a washing machine and a dryer. It's clean here. New air conditioner. Do not be afraid that the housing is on the market, it’s a very good location. The limousine bus to the airport is just 3(!) minutes from the hotel. Special thanks to Sam, who helped me to carry the luggages at 5 a.m. Generally, guys are vert communicative and super friendly!

There was no travel kit

- Incredibly friendly and helpful owner/manager - Good value for money - Central location, with quite a few underground and bus stations very close by (use of Naver or Kakao map services to find the building is highly recommended!) - Small, local clientele-oriented market right next to the hostel

- Place looks a bit run down, but new management is doing its best to make everything look and feel more pleasant!

The general location was OK because of its proximity to many attractions, although the specific location on a back alley left much to be desired. The gentleman who staffed the property was kind and helpful. The beds were reasonably comfortable.

The room was dark with no options for increasing the lighting. The only natural light and ventilation was from a small window high on the outside wall of our room. The lights in the bathroom were inoperable and we needed to use a flashlight to do our business. The property overall was cramped and various supplies and boxes took up the limited space in the 'lobby' area. The property was not what we expected based on the few glowing reviews we read following its recent reopening. After our experience we suspect the reviews were either manufactured or the reviewers had extremely low expectations that were easily exceeded. We stayed only one night and moved to a much better property, even though this meant losing the non-refundable cost of the remaining four nights we'd paid for. This fact alone should help you with your decision to stay or not.

I liked the size of the room, the owner (super nice and friendly, great English) and the location (lovely, authentic, not touristy).

No kettle. Was hard to carry hot water up from the lobby for our instant coffee and quick oats breakfast without burning our self.

Recently opened hostel in what looks a shady alley but as a woman it didn't feel unsafe at all. Owner was very friendly & hospitable and speaks English. He was also asking for feedback on improvements. Room was fine: basic and simple. You can wash and dry your clothes for free. It's in between subway stations Jongno5ga & Dongdaemun (where you can shop til 05:00). The famous Gwangjang market is also nearby.

No common area where you can sit and talk.

The hostel may have been newly painted. The smell of the painting in the bathroom is still fairly strong.

The location wasn’t so good. You need to take 2 lines of the subway to get to most places.

Overall a solid 8 for this hostel that could almost be a hotel. What I really liked: - the beds were hard, korean style, but new enough to still have a bit of give - there were inside shutters so it was dark in the morning for a good sleeping-in - the air-con was also new, so very efficient AND very quiet. - the bedding was Western style, with sheets and quilts (though not needed in summer), not the heavy fabric traditionally used for Korean bedding. So with the 4 things above I slept really well. Other details to note that are delightfully unusual for a hostel: - the room and the bathroom were both a very decent size (bathroom is a wet room, very common in Korea, hence the bathroom slippers) - hot and cold water dispenser on each floor - hair dryer and mini fridge in the bedroom (though mini fridge not super functional as freezes what is near the top, plus if you take the key fob with you during the day, the electricity stops. Still, you can work around that) And on top of that, the owner of this new hostel is very responsive to any problem and he speaks English.

Whilst I really liked the overall location - very central and very close to public transport - I was at first a bit wary of the immediate vicinity of the hostel. It's within a market, in a side-alley that has adult services. So I was concerned about the type of people who would be walking around there at night, but I did not encounter anyone rowdy. No drunken/noisy disturbance either. The view from my room window (room 302, that's 2nd floor for Europeans) wasn't exciting - see picture - but at least there wasn't another building straight in front. The industrial fans were a bit noisy though. I found the price a bit expensive for a hostel, but maybe it was because it was Chuseok, and hopefully it will be cheaper next time I visit Seoul.

We had a good stay but there is a bit of issue with one of the rooms we have booked. But thankfully, the owner is so considerate and very helpful to assist us. We appreciate his kind gesture and efforts in solving the issue. They provide a really good services.
