Nothing - would stay for much longer than 3 days next time! Minor but couldn’t find a vacumn/carpet sweeper - would be useful with dark carpet.

Reviewed Dec 2, 2025What an absolutely spectacular location! We came to Punakaiki for a bit of a retreat (family with 1 year old and 3 year old), and Kai's retreat was perfect. It exceeded our expectations, and was a great spot to access many of Punakaiki's walks and attractions from (highlights were the blowholes, Cavern, and Porarari River track lookout). Check in was easy, communication with hosts was great, and the place was exceptional. We absolutely loved the location, the view, and the kids loved the outdoor bath. The bathrooms were great, and beds were comfortable. Great set up! We even had weka join us while we were using the swings, which has become a special memory for the kids. We will definitely be back at some point, with plenty more of this stunning spot left to explore. Highly recommend this special place!

Nothing really. The second bedroom would benefit from better noise insulation from the bathrooms and more hooks or rails in the bathroom would be nice but really these are minor issues.

Reviewed Oct 23, 2025Location was great - so close to the Pancake Rocks and amongst the natural bush and pungas overlooking the sea.
We didn't realise the property was situated so high up, thought it was nearer the sea. Couldn't work out how to get NZ TV channels, not that it was a biggy as we didn't watch much TV.

The cleanliness of the kitchen was disappointing. We respect that some host don't want a dishwasher however unusual in this age if you are going to do this you need to provide decent tea towels and ensure the last guests have cleaned the plates and cultery properly.
