Huxley Retreat

The property is quite old. While the kitchen and living room appear to be part of a newer extension and look much better, the overall facilities were very disappointing. The cleanliness was also very poor and well below what we expected. The rooms did not feel properly cleaned, and the overall hygiene standards were quite disappointing. The biggest issue was the heating. The heat pump/air conditioner would randomly stop working, making it unreliable. There were only two portable heaters provided for three bedrooms, so one bedroom was freezing cold. On top of that, the bathroom heater only blew cold air instead of warm air. With the outdoor temperature dropping to around -5°C, these heating issues made the stay extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, our entire family ended up catching a cold because the house simply could not keep us warm. I understand that older properties have limitations, but basic heating and cleanliness are fundamental expectations, especially during winter. I hope the host addresses these issues before welcoming future guests.

Very handy location on the route from Christchurch to Queenstown. Small cosy town and the house was also conveniently located. Property was spacious with some outdoor area but wasn’t useful for us being chilly weather.

Heating was working hard to keep it warm…

Despite only being a 1 night stay, I could see the kitchen was well equipped with all the essentials and more. The lounge and dining furniture was generous and would have provided plenty of room for 6 people to relax comfortably. There is a large yard, which would be good if staying a few days with younger children. There was also some outdoor furniture, although this was not set up for our booking.

I booked a 3 room house for 3 adults expecting all rooms would be made up. On arrival, the single beds were not made up and when making one of them, the back of the bed was very dusty. In the queen bed rooms, given the time of year, (mid-April) warmer bedding would have been appropriate. While the electric blanket was welcome, a mid-season / winter quilt would have been better than the summer weight one provided. The front entrance could have done with sweeping, as could the back deck area with the outdoor furniture.

The property had a homely feel, felt relaxing on opening front door. House was old but well renovated giving it a new feel. Would love to come back and spend couple of weeks Twizel fantastic plaice to stay.

Home was well appointed with an excellent kitchen (induction range, double large sink), living room was spacious and well lit. Furniture throughout was high quality and comfortable. This is someone's well furnished home. Kitchen table large, sturdy, and functional. Excellent quality.

Instructions for how to use the heaters (one central, the other in the living room) would have been helpful.

For the price and size of accommodation and location really is very good.

Good location, couple of coffee shops, pubs and supermarkets in walking distance. Reliable and fast WiFi. Well-equipped kitchen and apartment in general. We liked staying there and would stay again.

Carpet in some some rooms, which we are not a fan of.

숙소키를 반납하는 장소를 잘 알려주셔서 저희는 어렵지 않게 반납을 하고 체크 아웃을 할 수 있었는데 혹시 안내문을 보지 못하는 분들은 숙소키 반납 장소를 찾지 못하면 어려울 것 같으니 사전에 꼭 반납장소가 다른 곳에 있음을 공지해 주세요~ 아쉬운 점은 아니고 주의할 점입니다.

Good location, easy to find. Host was communicative and responsive.

Cleanliness wasn’t thorough, there were stains on the dining table and most of the dishes and cutlery needed to be rewashed. TV / remote are quite old and randomly turned on in the middle of the night.

House was cosy and warm - we loved that the heating was on when we arrived.

Place is spacious. Room bed with heater is excellent.

The house is pleasant. Quiet neighborhood. Ample parking. Comfortable…though AC didn’t work in living area. Excellent location for visiting the Mt Cook and Lake Takepo area. Rental office was helpful and prompt when we called about how to operate one of the appliances. Beautiful wallpaper in all the rooms.

Because the AC didn’t work in the living room kitchen area we had to open the windows and doors. Bugs came marching and flying in. Ugh. So we either had to roast or sit in the dark with the doors open. We were forewarned we had to bring our own shampoo and soap as such amenities were not provided. It would have been nice to have been provide at least a small clean sponge for the kitchen. When one is traveling it isn’t easy to bring all these things…as most other accommodations provide them. Some of the pans were a bit ‘tired looking’ so not eager to cook in some of them.

Our family of four was thoroughly comfortable and relaxed during our short stay and wished we could stay longer. Homely and spacious, this house has a well equipped kitchen, is easy walking distance to the town centre (and frisbee golf!) and has bonus extra equipment for outdoor fun in the shed. Loved it!

Such a modern and well-maintained property. Bedrooms and bathrooms were great and the longe and kitchen were superb too. Fantastic outside area with everything you would ever need.

Floor needs a good clean. Oven needs a clean. Twin room had dog hairs. TV and TV remote were not communicating so no TV. Although this was not a problem to us. We did advise the place were we dropped off the key do this should get fixed.

Spacious, fabulous furnishings, gorgeous decking and garden area.

Nothing made sense in the kitchen, things were not where they should be. Struggled to find what we needed . Heater also struggled to work in lounge . Was very cold.

Beds were a little soft for my personal taste, and the wifi wasn't working.

Good location, easy enough to find, comfortable property, access to the park is unexpected and great :-)

the shower handle / control too close to the shower door; one has to be in shower cubicle with door closed to turn on the shower; can be awkward. And the oven! didn't expect to read instructions to turn the oven on to keep pizza warm & crisp.

We stayed there one night to break the long trip from Queenstown to Christchurch. It was a very comfortable place and it was very close to restaurants in the town center. The house would also be a great place for a longer stay and for a larger group, since it had three bedrooms, two baths (one full and one partial), a nice living and dining area, and a well appointed kitchen. The grocery store was close by too.

Needing to return the keys to the office was a little inconvenient at the end of the stay. It would have been easier had there been a lockbox on site

Good location with car. Adequate kitchenware for cooking dinner. Can easily see many stars by eye at night in Twizel. Really amazing and unforgettable memories. Rooms are comfortable though there's only one shower/bathroom so we need to schedule the time for 6 people. They do have an extra toilet (can't lock the door though) so it's a plus.

Didn't really use the outdoor seats, the deck looked larger in the pictures. Only provided hand wash, no shampoo/body gel. Would be good to provide more supplies in the kitchen like seasonings, paper towels, food wraps etc. But understandable not providing those with this price.

The outside wasn’t at all presented the same as the inside and I felt like I was trespassing into someone’s private house ? No key was left the cleaner had forgotten by mistake

Very clean and modern with great facilities. Lovely quiet street, good off road parking.

The accommodation is very comfy and homey. It provides all the amenities that we need. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable experience.
