Sunbird Cottage is an absolutely amazing place to stay. Not only is the cottage itself gorgeous but the surrounding scenery is breathtaking. Niles and Will are amazing hosts, so welcoming, extremely helpful and they go beyond to make sure that you have a great stay. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved this place, the photos don't do justice. It's on a beautifully located farm where you can buy organic meat and cheese. Owners are very responsive but not at all intrusive. Sunbird cottage is in our top 3 stays of a 4 week road trip. Absolutely recommend and wished we had stayed longer.

Very good directions and check- in details supplied by owner Niles. Lovely position of cottage with peaceful surroundings and a very comfortable firm king size bed with everything needed for self catering and a very welcome indoor wood burning fireplace that kept us warm .

Beautiful location that brings peace to the soul and mind . The quiet location and the natural beauty of the Karoo made it worth the effort. The hostess is kind and accommodating. Do remember it's for hi clearance vehicles/LDV or 4X4 to get to venue.

The view was amazing and the Cottage everything you could ask for.

Peaceful and quiet with nice views. Dark nights with starry skies. Cottage is comfortable and well equipped for a couple.

There was nothing to dislike.

Location, scenery, bed, washing machine, the dog and generally everything.

I think there is an electrical short in the shower area as everytime we touched the shower head and tap we would get a light shock. The shower also maybe needs a curtain or door as once we were both done the floor was soaked.

A comfortable cottage suitable for a couple. Beautiful views, peace and quiet, and star filled nights. Affable host who answered queries and offered suggestions for things to do.

Expect to eat outside or on your laps in the sitting room. If the weather is good, the first option is perfect.

Aircon was included on the booking but remotes were taken away without notice it was so hot we could not breathe, no fan and if you opend the doors for fresh air rooms were filled with bugs and mosquitoes ended up being very uncomfortable

The house is very tastefully equipped: The bedroom has a very comfortable bed and the kitchen has everything one needs for self-catering purposes.The farm-style setting is extremely peaceful and beautiful! This farm cottage is a respite from the husstle and bustle. Quiet, serene, beautiful stars. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Authentically decorated and loved the thoughtful and trusting idea to leave books for the visitors as there is no TV.

No soap / body wash in the shower was unexpected, but lovely hand wash at the basin.

That it was far away from any lights or noise! It was super quite and you could see the stars! If we had the time we would have stayed longer! We will definitely recommend Sunbird and we will stay over again. Thank Niles for your directions😊

Lovely cottage with all required amenities. Beautiful setting with great birdlife and mountains. Firewood was supplied upon request and we enjoyed the fire and star gazing in the Karoo. Highly recommended and we will be back!

The 6 km gravel road was somewhat of a challenge, but not a problem if you take it slowly.

The roads…

Natural surroundings, various hiking opportunities, beauty of the area, privacy, nice stoep to sit and relax, very accommodating and friendly hosts, cared for interior and exterior.

Really only a few minor details. Kitchen sink would have been happy with a decent plug, the coffee plunger might need to be renewed, an extra light bedsheet between duvet and mattress covers for those very warm nights.

Very clean and well furnished with lovely stoep area to watch the sunrises and sunsets. Completely separate from any other buildings in the area. Lovely Karoo thunderstorms and evening fires under the starry skies.

The cottage was clean and in immaculate condition. The area was clean and peaceful.

The only less positive feedback: The bed was a bit hard, had some stiff backs the next morning. But the quiet surroundings gave us a good night's rest.

A true gem! We had an amazing, memorable stay with breathtaking surroundings. Super clean, great quality bedding & towels. Cosy with a fireplace inside. Aircon is a great bonus and theres wifi(but try to enjoy the moment rather).

There is nothing I didn't like.

Such a great cottage! Clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well equipped. Gas stove/oven and lamp bulbs that hold a charge make loadshedding manageable. Really appreciated the heater in the bedroom and the wood stove in the living room while visiting in winter. Wonderful front porch for lounging and admiring the view. The area is beautiful. The host is very thoughtful and is great about communicating and providing specific directions/instructions for traveling to and accessing the property. The property is a working farm and they have mince kudu and beef available for purchase by the kilo. We loved the rural location outside of Graaff-Reinet. The 6.5km on gravel road was totally passable with our 2-wheel drive/lower clearance sedan (sections of washboard are a bit of a nuisance, but not a problem). Wish we could have stayed longer! Highly recommended.

Location superb. A tranquil and beatiful farmstay. Breathing space and silence. I will never stay anywhefe else in GR if Sunbird is available.

My busband found the hard matress too hard. But I know you can't please everybody...

I cannot rate my experience highly enough. I enjoyed two weeks of peace and tranquility while still able to get necessary work done thanks to reliable WiFi (except for periods of load-shedding). Plenty of different corners of the farm to explore on long walks and wonderful birdlife. Town is just a few minutes drive away. Provision made for lighting and cooking during load-shedding. Hosts of both the human and dog variety very friendly and welcoming.

If you have any sort of spider or insect phobia, this is not the place for you - better to stay in town.
