AURORA Midigama

Beautiful place for short and long stays. Nice garden in local village in nature. Monkeys, birds, and nice relaxing songs at night. Located in a none touristic area at the bush near to ocean and bus stop. Owner family very kind and helpful. Very good home made breakfast.

I had the most lovely stay in Midigama. The house is tucked into a green oasis of trees and flowering plants. This made my mornings feel like waking up in a little garden. It’s only a five-minute walk to the beach, yet the place is wonderfully peaceful, even though shops and restaurants are just around the corner. My room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. Every morning the host treated me to the most delicious teas. Fragrant, warming, and made with so much care that those quiet moments on the porch became one of my favourite parts of the day. The host was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. She made me feel completely at home. If you want a calm, green retreat near the beach with a warm, welcoming host, this is a perfect spot!

Superb home stay, love every day there.

Calm environment and Kindfull persons ❤️

Beautiful property and amazing host surrounded by greenery.

Everything! The location is lovely, close to the beach but off the main road in a very nice safe neighborhood. The accommodation itself is perfect for a week stay, we couldve stayed longer because there’s everything you need! Most comfortable bed we’ve slept in so far during our trip in SL. And the pillows.. amazing. Everything was so clean!! The garden is beautifully kept and the host sweeps it in a lovely pattern each morning. I could go on… Host is super sweet, and even though her English was not super, we felt super welcome and at home. She even makes clothes! I bought a beautiful pant-set from her which she finished in no-time. We would absolutely recommend this place from the bottoms of hearts. And!! Almost forgot, she is an amazing cook. One of the best Sri Lankan food we had and wish we knew she had a cooking lesson :-)! So definitely do that with her! One of the best, cleanest, homeliest places we stayed in SL.

nothing!! Everything was amazing

I’m genuinely disappointed by the experience I had with this property. I booked my stay through Booking.com a few days in advance and called on the morning of check-in to confirm everything before travelling down south. During the first call, I was told the room was ready, and I informed them that I would be arriving around 3 PM for a late check-in. A short while later, I received another call saying the room was suddenly unavailable because the toilet “wasn’t flushing.” The timing of this was extremely suspicious, as it happened only after they realized I was a local traveler through the phone conversation. What made the experience especially unpleasant was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic hospitality. I explained that I had already travelled a long distance for my vacation and would now be left stranded trying to find another place at the last minute during a busy period. Instead of showing any concern or attempting to help, I was casually told to “check Booking.com, there are many places.” That response felt dismissive, rude, and incredibly inconsiderate. As someone who simply wanted to enjoy a peaceful holiday in my own country, the experience left a very bad impression. No guest should be made to feel less welcome because they are local. Hospitality should be extended equally to everyone, regardless of whether they are foreign tourists or Sri Lankan travelers. The cancellation itself was frustrating, but the way it was handled made the entire situation far worse. It turned what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation into a stressful and uncomfortable experience. I hope the property reflects on how they communicate with guests and treats future visitors with more honesty, respect, and fairness.

Very close to the beach, lovely host. Slept so well here. The host was so friendly and kind.

Peaceful and quiet location. Everything was clean and neat. Friendly and helpful staff.

Les hôtes sont adorables et disponibles l’endroit est très mignon et très calme et bien placé dans Midigama. La chambre est jolie.

The area and lane down where the property is located is really nice and peaceful. The hosting family are very kind and respectful of privacy. The room was nicely decorated and everything was kept very clean. I spent 8 days and had a very relaxing and happy stay 😊

I was happy with everything

The rooms are very comfortable, with a table, shelves and a clothes rack, a fan, and a private outdoor table on each terrace. It’s a very cute place surrounded by nature you can spot monkeys, mongooses, and beautiful birds right from your terrace. It’s away from the noise of the train lines and main streets, yet still just a few minutes away. The neighborhood feels very safe - I always felt comfortable walking alone after dark. The family is very kind and always ready to help with anything you need 💕

10/10 value for money! Very comfortable and hosts are incredibly welcoming. Highly recommended!

A little further away from the main road but not bad at all!

The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Very good breakfast as well. :)

Sehr sauber im Zimmer und Umgebung. Sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereite Gastgeberfamilie. Ruhig, privat und gemütlich. Es hat alles was man braucht. Extrem gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

Beautiful space and hosts!

Fantastic family, excellent meals. Strongly recommended.

We stayed at Aurora for 4 nights and it was an incredible stay. The host family were so kind and welcoming, and offered tea and remedies for us when my partner was sick. The option to have laundry done on site was really helpful as well. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and we had mosquito nets on the bed which were a lifesaver. We will absolutely be staying again - thank you for our stay and see you soon!

The location was very convenient and quiet, the room is spacious and clean, the family is very friendly and warm! Especially the mom made perfect coconut roti! Highly recommend to order meal from them if you stay there 🙂

The bedroom is big and clean. The location is perfect. Like 5 minutes walking to the lazy left which made so easy to surf every day. The family is really nice, they arranged the motorbike at a really good price

The bedroom it is tooo hot. I didnt get the best night rest because of the heat. The wifi didnt work…

We really enjoyed our stay here. The family were so kind, and very attentive. Highly recommend!

Everything was absolutely perfect, there was nothing to complain about. The family was incredibly helpful with any matter that came up. I would definitely recommend this place to others!

Great location, quiet and private. The family are very helpful with all our needs Delicious home cooking is available. Can use kitchen to make own meals. We like to cook porridge for breakfast and make an expresso coffee. A great place to stay.

Really nice family and really cute and clean room. The food is also amazing! I totally recommend

Probably the best maintained and overall cleanest guesthouse we have experienced in sri lanka, together it a family that is always available for any of your needs, including tasty breakfast and general help :) only downside for us was the internet, but thats not the reason we came to sri lanka :) Thank you

Internet could be improved

Great host who made me feel like staying in the family and the best breakfast of homemade food I’ve had during the whole trip.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at this charming guesthouse in Midigama. The hosts, a warm and welcoming family, truly made our experience special. From helping us rent a scooter to arranging a tuk-tuk, they went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. The location is perfect—set in a quiet back street, offering a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. The room, while small, was cosy and comfortable, providing everything we needed. One evening, the family served us a home-cooked rice and curry, which was absolutely delicious and a real highlight of our stay. For the value and the hospitality, this guesthouse is a hidden gem, and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Such good value for money, perfect location, such a comfortable best and the most amazing hosts! Welcoming, friendly, just lovely 🥰 would come back in a heartbeat!

Lovely owner, amazing breakfast and such good location! Would go back here again. The lady who runs it is soooooo nice and really makes you feel so welcome.

Nothing!

Wonderful kind hosts who offered tea and arranged a bicycle for me. Very friendly. , best breakfast I had in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka with freshly cooked roti and dhal. Clean room and bathroom and easy to walk into Midigama.

Just could use some soap in the bathroom.

Truly amazing, relaxing, heartwarming stay. I stayed at Aurora Guesthouse for 2 months (from October to December), and it was quite tough to leave. Beyond a neat, clean and functional room with solid fibre Wi-Fi and a private terrace, you will meet the kindest of families. « Amma » (mother) makes amazing food (fish curry and chicken biryani being my favourite!) The father « Thaaththa » and the 3 children are also always eager to help whenever you need it. The location is perfect, far enough to avoid hearing hustle and bustle from the main road and train tracks, yet close enough to the beach (Lazy Left and Lazy Right surf breaks are a 5-minute walk away!) local fish stand, supermarket, bakery, bus station etc. Other surf spots are a 5-10 minute scooter ride away (Weligama, Ahangama) which makes the location very convenient if you want to try out different spots. The family arranged an affordable scooter rental for me (with the possibility to install a surf rack!) If you’re looking for a relaxing, affordable, and cosy surf or non-surf stay, this is the place for you. Thank you for being such amazing hosts, I will definitely be back soon! Warm hugs, Alexandre

This is the tropical paradise you were looking for in Midigama. Really lovely family-run homestay, great location, fantastic service, soothing garden... just a stone's throw from the sea (and the train station in case you are arriving / leaving by train). Tranquil, simple, relaxing, comfortable, clean, inexpensive, secluded. It's a hidden gem. Highly recommended! You will wish you stayed longer... so I did.

Amazing place, great rooms close to the beache / surf place lazy left/right. Lovely family that do everything to make you stay comfortable.

Loved my stay so much! Lovely room and lovely family that was taking care of me Everything was super clean and the location is nice and calm a bit outside the busy road Had the best Dhal I’ve ever tasted

I have had the BEST experience at Aurora Midigama. You are welcomed into the most friendly, kindest, warmest family who are very helpful when you have questions or a problem. I booked 3 nights and ended up extending my stay. The location is perfect. It’s near midigama beach but away from the busy road. The room is spacious, comfortable and has everything you need. I cannot recommend it enough.

Loved my stay here. The room was clean and comfortable. The whole family were very kind and welcoming. Especially loved the mum who cooked amazing dinners, made me tea each morning and even made me some linen trousers. Hope to see you all again

Feel so blessed to have spent our first few days in Sri Lanka with this beautiful family. Will definitely go back! Also, a short walk to the beach to watch spectacular sunsets.

Super nice and helpful family!

Quiet location close to lazie right/left surf breaks and Midigama amenities. Friendly hosts and nice clean modern room and bathroom. Shared kitchen area is a nice bonus

Absolutely lovely family who are so so kind and generous. They go out of their way to make your stay comfortable & are on hand to help at any time. I was given free fruits for breakfast almost every day & shown how to make traditional sri lankan food. It was a beautiful stay.

Can be a bit noisy in the morning due to neighbour's dogs and other loud noises, no fault of the property.

This place is so beautiful! I extended my stay here because I really felt at home. The family is so welcoming, friendly and generous. I cannot put into words how much I appreciated their kindness and hospitality! This place and family is truly a gem and I recommend staying here 100% The mum makes beautiful clothes and I ordered a few items. I love wearing them! She also cooks delicious food and I was invited to learn how to make Sri Lankan curry. I cannot thank you enough for everything! I hope to come back soon!

Incredible warm and friendly host-family! They are trying eyerthing to let you feel like home and make your stay unique. There are only 2 rooms for guests and the house is located at a very quiet place, in only short walking distance to the beach and a riverside... The room is well equipped and you can relax on your own little terrace. Everything is very clean and they offer a very good, homemade local breakfast! The price is more than fair! I would give 12/10 points and would highly recommend this special homestay! Thank you for your nice family atmosphere - I was enjoying a lot!

Nice accomodation about by a very sweet family. 100% recommended!

Everything was wonderful! Great location, short walk to surf spots and bus stop, but still hidden from the road noise! cozy room, comfortable bed, nice working place. Very welcoming and helpful family! Small kitchen and fridge available. in addition nature around! pregnant friendly cat, feeding me with rats ))), funny mongoose, monkeys, birds etc ( if you want) otherwise just ignor'em and they won't come.

Beautiful, but heavy not so comfortable chears ... Maybe i should stay longer =))) Hope to see you next year! good luck with everything))

Clean, quite, surrounded by nature, still only minutes away walking from the sea and shops and I love that from there you can't hear the train passing or the busy street by the sea. I loved the family of the homestay, very kind people. Kitchen and wifi, clean, modern bathroom with good shower. They also do laundry! Monkeys can be seen around the forest. Seen new born turtles getting to the sea on a beach nearby. If you keep an eye around the forest you can spot chameleons, there are quite a few around. Squirrels too. Food tips: get brownies at Blue Portch, good coffee at Rockvin and grilled whole fish or chicken at GG Francis. Enjoy Midigama! :)

That I stayed too little, I wished I could have stayed longer :)

hidden gem, can recommend to everyone

I spent more than one month at Aurora rooms and I loved it! The host family is so kind, helpfull and friendly that I felt like member of the family. The location is perfect, room is very clean and comfy and for me was big advantage than I had one table in the room and another one outside so I can work very comfortable. The accomodation has also kitchen with fridge what is another big plus! Definitelly recommend this place! The best one in Midigama!

I really enjoyed my stay with the Aurora Guesthouse family. Over nearly two months, I occupied one of their new, very clean rooms, equipped with a table, fan, and mosquito nets, as well as reliable Wi-Fi. Mrs. Mum prepared delightful breakfasts, with local black tea, each morning. I cherished every moment and appreciated their assistance in arranging a scooter with a surf rack and helmet. It had a great times. Already looking forward to coming back 🫶🏼

Only 2 rooms and the house is very quiet, yet close to the beach and the more touristy cities weligama and mirissa. The hostfamily are the nicest persons we have met on our tour and probably in our life, they made us the best dinner we have had and made us fresh drinks every day. We would have loved to stay here much longer, if we had more time.

.

I liked it so much. cozy room, equipped with all necessary things. wonderful and adorable family who runs this place. they are very helpful and welcoming. thank you for these days I’ve spent in Midigama

It's such a beautiful and lovely place. Very peaceful, tranquil and surrounded by nature. It's a nice escape from the busy main road. Still close enough to walk to the beach and surf spots. The family who runs it, is super helpful and attentive - absolutely loved my stay there. Note: they have just one room, so you'll be the only guest there =).

Everything perfect.
