Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Michael is a great host and a lovely man. He's very friendly and helpful. He took us on a mini tour around the area which was great. It felt more like being home than staying in a guest house.
There are shared batbroom and kitchen facilities so getting the timing right for preparing breakfast for example can be a challenge.
The owner was nice and friendly and gave us a lift in to the wedding venue as a gesture so this was very kind
Did not feel overall that the place was fully clean. We just did not feel the kitchen was clean enough to have breakfast. We were intended to stay 2 nights but we ended up just staying 1 night as we were not fully comfortable. The main bathroom particularly is not well kept with old floor mats all over the floor.
Peaceful setting. Typical farmhous of multiple size rooms. Friendly host Michael goes out of his way to help, including taxiing us to various places. It has a quaint country garden, lovely to relax in. We had freedom to use all the house kitchen facilities and utencils.Comfy bed.
No public transport and cabs are expensive . The tv signal is a bit hit and miss at times. Our room didn't have own shower, but we did have toilet and sink. Shared shower room was available.
Michael was such a good host; nothing was too much trouble. He collected us from the train station, and drove us into town too. We were staying in Athy for a wedding and I returned that evening a little earlier than my friends due to a bit of heatstroke and a bad headache; Michael immediately poured me water, offered me tea, showed genuine concern. He is also a fount of local knowledge, full of stories and local history.
The shared bathroom is being remodelled so it was not in the best shape - but it is clearly a work in progress, so is bound to be better for future guests.
Outskirts of the village Ideal for bikers. As bikes locked away in the property’s grounds
Nothing Micheal is a wonderful host warm greeting when arrived and offered to pop me into village to get food at 8.20pm when arrived
Michael- the owner is an exceptional host. He went out of his way to make me feel at home and comfortable. He also showed me around some sights - very kind and a good craic. He has some delicious strawberries and a very pretty garden filled with flowers. Thank you very much Michael.
NA
Location was beautiful, wonderful patio and garden. Athy is only a short drive or taxi journey. Michael is an extraordinary host, great stories and lots of information on the area. And so kind..gave us a lift to wedding we were attending, made porridge bread (delicious) for us and sent us off after a great weekend with flowers from his garden and lots of homegrown veggies. A great character, Michael is what makes Willsgrove House.
There is a little more work to be done re bathroom facilities but I've no doubt it will be done.
Michael the host is brilliant. A great character who is happy to help and share a wealth of local knowledge.
The only thing would be to trim the hedges either side of the entrance/exit to the driveway.
Michael was a lovely host. He was friendly and wanted to be helpful. He tried to put a light in the bathroom but couldn't so offered us another, much nicer bedroom but it was late and we were ready for bed so declined. The location was nice. The bed was comfortable.
It was dirty. The hall and stairs needed a hoover and the windows and sills were dirty and mouldy. The ensuite only had a toilet and wash basin and there was no light. There were bare floorboards where a shower had been. Our friends did not have an ensuite and there were a few people using the facilities. There weren't any tea making facilities or even a glass in the bedroom for drinking water and it's only now, when I've read the other reviews, that I've found out we could have used the kitchen.
Great stay. Very good host.
Everything i loved how homly the place felt always mike the owner is expectional he is so kind he brought us around to show us athy he picked us up and brought us to the bus stop or a late night shop trip, my self and my partner were having a break from the kids we just wanted to relax and stay in the room all day just pure r&r it was so nice and even gave me his porridge bread made all by himself , would definitely go back the hospitality of Mike is just A1 , the house is lovely and clean and warm , recommend 100% ❤️
There was nothing I did not like
Very comfy spot to stay just outside of Athy. Came to Athy for an event at the Shackleton Museum. Willsgrove was cozy, I had a nice room with a shared bathroom. Kit and Michael were lovely hosts, and Michael even drove me to the train station when I had to leave. Good value for the money. Would stay here again.
Very nice owner. Close to town.
Michael is a brilliant host who goes the extra mile. He even made me some porridge bread after I asked to try some!
Staff were great. nice old house. loads of space.
What a friendly welcoming place to be I mean it’s warm and homely and as for Mike is so so friendly and welcoming helping us with transport Definitely going back again I thank you from myself and my partner.
Everything it’s so countless me and my partner we planning to go back .
Sehr netter Gastgeber, gute Geschichten inklusive. Tolle Lage, um überall an die Ostküste zu kommen. Ein gemietetes Auto ist empfehlenswert. Frühstück im Freien neben dem Maisfeld
The location of the guest house is perfect! So peaceful and tranquil and only a very short drive to Athy town. Ideal location.
Great value for money. Good budget friendly option if you want to avoid an expensive hotel!
Michael the host was great. He couldn't do enough to make you feel at home. Very knowledgeable about the area too.
Nothing
The owner/ host, Michael is fantastic ! He couldn't do enough for his guests : driving people to the town about 3km away or further afield to sightsee.
There was nothing I didn't like
Michael our host was an absolute gentleman and extremely personable. He insisted on driving us to a wedding we were attending at Burtown House and offered to collect us. Bedroom was large and comfortable. Although breakfast was not part of our stay Micheal invited us to have some breakfast before we left. He also gave us a beautiful bunch of flowers from his garden. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we hope to return later in the year.
Nothing.
This place is lovely the owner Michael is fantastic. So friendly even offers to drop you in town. Gives loads of tips and advice also makes a great cup of tea. The bed was so comfortable the bathroom huge. We will go back especially after he informed us in Athy there is a train directly to Dublin. Best of both worlds Many Thanks David and Nicola
All good
Comfy bed. Very helpful member of family drove us into town so we could get some dinner when the roads are windy and very dark! While it was supposed to be accommodation only, as we were leaving we found a message stuck on the outside of our door frame offering us an opportunity to grab some breakfast. By that stage it was too late as we were packed and ready to go. It would have helped enormously if we'd known the night before!
Heating was only a small electric heater in a reasonably large room. In the morning the bathroom was freezing cold and we just wanted to forget showers and warm up in the car. Some towels looked like beach towels. Felt intrusive to go into the host's kitchen to be able to make a cuppa, when providing those facilities in the room would have been non-intrusive for all! I have no problem with low key hospitality if it is guest-focused but sadly despite the best intentions this just seemed amateur and maybe lacked real insight into what guests might be looking for. Maybe it just needed a bit more of a professional touch.
The owner was welcoming and let us check in early. The room was simple, large and clean.
The room was not very comfortable.
The comfortable bed and the peace and quiet
A lovely stay in the countryside of Athy. Willsgrove house is only a short distance away from Clonard Court Hotel, where we attended a wedding. Michael the host was very accommodating and even picked us up from the hotel in the early hours as we could not get a taxi. Overall, it was a lovely peaceful place to stay with very spacious room and bathroom. Would definitely stay again.
Really clean room/bathroom & such a comfortable bed. Michael the owner is an absolute gent & couldn’t do enough for us. Would return every time when staying in Athy.
I loved every minute staying at Willsgrove house loved the location,Micheal the owner was fantastic nothing was to much trouble in fact I’m going to be booking to go their again for New Year’s Eve would just like to say thank u to Micheal for making my stay their so good 😊
Michael is a friendly and personable host. We really enjoyed chatting with him and getting to know a bit about him and the area over a cup of tea. Would definitely stay again. Thanks, Michael, for your hospitality.
Having to say goodbye.
Its situation and the feeling of space. The garden area for sitting out.
Michael was a lovely host! Having a fully equipped kitchen was great and the room was very comfortable. Nice to have a place to park our bikes.
Kitchen could be a bit cleaner.
