Reviewed Sep 5, 2026The welcoming family feel, excellent and pristine room and the cleanliness of the home was top notch. Our ling bed was very comfortable and the room was welcoming and cozy. Bathroom heater for towels a plus and fantastic shower! Wonderful breakfast with scones, pastries and coffee/tea. The family members checked on us chatted during breakfast... true Irish hospitality! We will be back and give this wonderful family home ten stars.

Reviewed Aug 28, 2026Leider ist das Shelmalier House etwas abseits vom Ort. Man kann aber mit dem Bus hinfahren oder alternativ einen Trailpfad circa 30 Minuten hin laufen. Ursprünglich war ein Checkin erst um 16 Uhr angesetzt aber nach Kontakt mit der Unterkunft, war auch ein früheres Checkin möglich. Kleines Frühstück (Mini-Croissants, Scoones) und Kaffee war sogar unerwartet inklusive und gratis. Auch etwas abseits von irgendwelchen Hauptstraßen und daher etwas ruhiger.
Ein paar Sachen sind schon leicht in die Jahre gekommen aber noch nicht offensichtlich schlimm.

Footpath all the way to town, only about 20 minutes to the centre. Scones and coffee were a lovely touch in the morning before we headed off again on our cycle. Great space in the room with a fantastic shower. Will be back

Reviewed Jun 15, 2026Das Frühstück war einfach mit Scones und Croissants sowie Kaffee oder Tee nach Wahl, und ausreichend. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber mit einem sehr guten und angenehmen Bett. Die Lage ist in einem Wohnquartier und es war sehr ruhig. Auf dem Zimmer hat es einen Teekocher und Tee mit Tasse.
Früchte zum Frühstück wären super. Etwas mehr Kontakt zum Gastgeber wäre schön. Bessere Erreichbarkeit zum Gastgeber wäre super – b ooking.com ist da etwas eine Barriere.

Reviewed Jun 6, 2026This place is the best! Kind hosts, clean, comfortable room, and FRESH SCONES every morning! There is a bus stop nearby that goes to the city center. More importantly for us, it's near the university campus. We were so refreshed during our stay.
No complaints other than needing to walk an extra mile to work off the scones, ha ha!

As a room-only booking, I had to go looking for breakfast but that was what I expected. You can walk into Athlone easily, and there are cafes a short drive away.

you couldn't control it but a couple was arguing outside our window. I slept through it but the girls said it was awful. People need to be respectful

Reviewed Oct 5, 2025The location is good and the town center is at a walkable distance. The room was super clean and kettle with tea/coffee/ cookies was provided, along with bottles of water. Staff were very friendly and welcoming especially Dushanka. Jim and Nancy were excellent host and would recommend this property without a doubt. Very close to TUS Midlands as had visited to settle my daughter.
There is nothing that I didn't like. I was aware that there was no restaurant and breakfast facilities at the time of booking however, there are few eateries around for the same. Plenty of options at the town centre which is at a walkable distance.
