Very nice place to stay in great location. Bakeries, restaurants and shopping are within steps of the hotel. My one wish was that the lobby coffee machine was turned on in the morning instead of unsuccessfully trying to make us buy their buffet breakfast.
Great location. Comfortable rooms
The hotel located in the pictures small village. Everything was very close. We had astonishing mountains view from our balcony. Breakfast Buffet was one of the best. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Linden palace is only 15 minutes away from the village. This village has amazing swimming pools with the Alps view. Self served coffee in the morning was really good. We would like to thank hotel owners and the staff for the great job.
Wonderful staff and breakfast. Rooms are tidied daily. They make you feel special
The staff was friendly. The room was large and very comfortable and super clean. There were plenty of outlets available for charging. Breakfast is buffet and they have everything you can think of to eat. It is located in the heart of downtown so lots of shopping and places to eat. Not to mention the beautiful view of the Alps we had from our room.
Goed hotel in het centrum van Oberammergau; alles gebeurt volgens de Duitse degelijkheid
Nette kamer en badkamer. Lekker centraal in het centrum. Bediening erg vriendelijk. Ontbijt buffet was goed verzorgt. Jammer dat de kamer geen airconditioning had.
Great location with spacious clean rooms and friendly staff.
First time at this hotel. Loved everything but the hotel is showing it’s age. Seemed appreciate for the ambiance and location. Would definitely stay there again.
Stayed one night on a road trip through Belgium and Germany. Nice hotel ideally located with limited parking right at the side of the hotel and a large public car park very close by. Plenty of room on the pavement outside to unload luggage before parking. Room spotlessly clean and everything you need. As is the case in most hotels in Germany the pillows are less than supportive but there were extra ones that helped. Continental breakfast was fine with a good selection. Staff were lovely and helpful. Would stay here again.
I stayed here for two weeks. The room was spacious, well maintained and clean, and the breakfast was really good and always fresh. All staff (concierges and waitresses) was friendly and polite. The hotel is in downtown. Good experience.
Sehr schönes Hotel in guter Lage. Freundliches Personal und sehr gut ausgestattete Zimmer. Wirklich zu empfehlen!
This is a very homey and clean hotel right in the center of town. The room was large and the beds comfortable. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was very fair and included a delectable breakfast that was slightly limited in its selection. We will surely return. Travelers need to check in with the hotel about when it’s closed and when there are holy days and parades that might interfere with activities.
This is a perfectly located hotel in Oberammergau. It is charming and the rooms are quaint with plaid drapes, wood ceiling and little wooden beds. However they are quite uncomfortable with very awkward pillows.
Nice hotel that catered mostly to large groups while we were there for the Passion Play. I sort of got interrogated each morning at breakfast as to what “group” I was in, but nevertheless, as soon as they knew that we don’t travel in “groups,” it was a very enjoyable breakfast. The hotel is centrally located in the village, and just a short walk to the amphitheater for the play. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to stay away from the village and have to take a shuttle bus back and forth to the play. Highly recommended!
Came to Oberammergau for the Passion Play. Stayed two nights. Hotel is very clean and a 5 minute walk to the Play, Staff was very friendly, room was dated but very clean. Beds were comfy though pillows could have been better. Bathroom was small. Room was a bit stuffy with no A/C. Used the hotel washer and dryer which was great to have and 5 euro each. Lovely town even if you don't come for the Passion play. Would stay here again.
In town for 2 night for the Passion Play, was a great location only a 250m (5min) walk the the play, was so nice to get out of the play at 9.45pm and just walk 5mins then into bed rather than have to catch a bus to another town, etc like so many others. Breakfast was adequate but no bread or toaster which I found strange. Rooms were very large, we had 104, no street noise whatsoever and looking at the fountain and hills. New bathrooms too. Wifi was great, pillows were a little on the thin side so definitely needed two each but we only had 3 for the room. Staff friendly and helpful
Hotel Wittlesbach was better than we anticipated. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and cute. The hotel is located in a prime location for visiting Oberammergau. All members of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Email exchanges were answered promptly, often within 6 hours. The breakfast was delicious and ample. They automatically got us accommodation for dinner at an adjacent hotel due to understaffing for their dining room. The whole atmosphere-hotel and staff- were wonderful!!!
Great hotel with very friendly and Service-minded staff. Our room was on first floor almost adjacent to the breakfast room. Very good, large room with comfortable bed and balcony. Would have given still better review if elevator had not been broken. In the absolute center of town and only 300 meters from Passionstheater.
I cannot say enough about what a beautiful hotel this is and how unbelievably kind and helpful the staff was. The owners are onsite and treat everyone like family. The hotel is impeccably clean with all modern amenities. It is located in the center of town with everything just a short walk away, including the Passionplay Theater. The breakfast was plentiful and outstanding. I travel for a living and can easily give this hotel my highest recommendation.
Very central. Clean. Friendly and helpful staff.Would have been perfect to have a small refrigerator in the room
It was amazing. Many thanks to the staff, particularly to Miss Ursula Telek at the front desk and the lady preparing the breakfast for being so genial, professional and supportive.
I loved the location. It was perfect to explore the downtown. Breakfast was pleasant and the staff very friendly. No complaints.
少し寒かった。お湯を沸かすケトルが設置されていないのが残念。
I stayed again in Wittelsbach for business. Reasons to come back were the comfortable rooms, good breakfast buffet and above all the friendly staff. All boxes were ticked again. Hope in June they will have rooms available during the Passion plays season.
Friendly staff. Breakfast very good. Great location.
Location was great, free parking nearby, breakfast was really good, and Staff excellent. Rooms were clean and decent sized and a great location for downtown walking.
We stayed at this hotel for one night to visit Oberammergau and its surroundings. The hotel is very conveniently in downtown. The reception staff was friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was good, and the staff was once again really courteous and friendly. I definitely recommend staying at this hotel if in the area.
Nice hotel. Have stayed here for the third time.
Great stay! A little pricey for the hotel but this was new years week so expected. Staff courteous and spoke english when necessary (we speak some german). Rooms were cozy. Free parking is NOT at the hotel and good luck finding a spot. We drove around for over 30 minutes and ended up far from the hotel as they do not have specific parking. If it were anymore crowded in the town you will walk far with luggage.
Fabulous hotel in an idyllic setting.
Very nice hotel! The reception clerk made good suggestions and was very helpful and accommodating. We just stayed one night, and this fit the bill perfectly. Would definitely stay again.
Great hotel in the heart of town. Friendly and helpful staff with great service at front desk, housekeeping, and at included onsite breakfast
An unassuming hotel right in the middle of the town, this is perfect for those visiting Oberammergau. The interior is modern, but with some traditional decor, and the staff friendly. The breakfast was excellent, and there is also an evening restaurant. Although there is no bar in the hotel, there are many within a 2 minute walk.
Delightful Hotel right in the City Center with nearby parking. Good Free Breakfast. Awesome young lady at check in. Bed was low but comfortable. No AC but did not need it in August.
Oberammergau is a small town. So distance is not real a problem but this hotel is at the center of the center. Clean, nice and good breakfast.
The area was very beautiful. Everything closes early. The area in Ettal was beautiful, but in the restaurants, the staff seem like they have a problem with you being there. Very unhappy people and very rude! We went to a restaurant across from Hotel Wittelsbach. Frank, our waiter was the only redeeming person, as far as wait staff are concerned. When we 1st walked into the restaurant, our waiter walked away when we were tring to decode. He never came back. These ate some of the rudest people I've ever met. Such a beautiful area, but the people make one not want to come back. I've been all over the world, these people top the ultimate in rudeness! Stephanie at the hotel was fine. Overall, 2 people were somewhat kind, or at least, decent over three days. We are on our way to Venice. Perhaps Venetians will be a bit happier. Or at least smile and act happy to see you.
We had a late check in and the staff was most helpful. The door was opened late for us and we found our room key and the hotel information immediately upon entering the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The breakfast was fine. Felt it was a good value and a great location!
This property was amazing. Cute reception area with very polite staff. Nice room setup and comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet was delicious
We stayed for 6 nights while we visited the Bavarian countryside. This was the perfect spot to see all that we wanted to see. Our room was comfortable and we were on the third floor with a beautiful view of the steeple and alps. Everything within the town is very walkable, Breakfast was provided and was good. Yogurt, muesli and some breakfast breads were my go to. They also had cereals, eggs and cold cuts. We did not eat dinner at the hotel restaurant, but it was available. The nearby restaurants were all very good with a wide variety to choose from. Staff at the hotel was helpful and spoke English. There is not air conditioning, but we didn't have a problem with that in June. It cools off nicely at night. The room was cute and comfortable. We had a car and it was easy to park at a nearby lot. I highly recommend this hotel.
Absolutely delightful! We enjoyed a wonderful time at this hotel. Everything from the staff to the facilities to the location was ideal.
Enjoyed that the hotel was updated yet blended nicely with the quaintness of the town. Quiet in the evening for sleep with a comfortable bed. Hearty breakfast. Nice location. Staff helpful and accommodating. Absolutely would recommend
This has to be one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to! The rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were very nice. Great view from the balcony! It also isn’t that expensive at all. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Great service! Breakfast was included and the food was good. I would definitely want to come back here!
Beautiful property in the center of town. We loved the room and the breakfast was fantastic!
We stayed here for just one night. Check in was easy as there is a small parking spot up front and, once checked in, you receive a parking pass as mentioned in other reviews. The room was average size for a gasthaus but the bathroom - what! The BEST shower I’ve seen in all of Europe. Large walk in shower stall with fantastic shower-head - definitely a remodel and one that they should definitely list as part of their amenities. Quite easy to walk everywhere from the location and the sommerrodelbahn is a quick 5 minute drive. Breakfast was excellent and I was provided with gluten free options for bread that were very good. Nice variety of meats, cheeses, jams, yogurt, cereal. Staff was wonderful and friendly. I would definitely recommend for a quiet stay away from busy Garmisch area.
10/10 The hotel is brilliant: Servise is great! Workers are polite! The rooms are beautiful Bavarian style and very clean - beds are like the clouds! Very soft. ☁️☁️☁️ The food is great as well! Try the Kakao - Hot chocolate!
Beautiful Oberammergau, it was snowing and cold but absolutely beautiful. Our hotel was charming and the staff were awesome. There were no taxis available to take us to our hotel, so a very nice man in a cafe, called the hotel and someone came and picked us up. Then when we were checking out, the owner, took us in his own car to the train station. He would not accept any payment or tip. There are so many craftsmen in Oberammergau, everything is absolutely beautiful. The good thing is most of them ship to the USA.
Hotel Wittelsbach is central and has a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and recommend this hotel.
Superb hotel! Utterly charming and authentic. Great, friendly staff. EVERYTHING immaculate. Nice breakfast. Right in the center of town, parking nearby. Highly recommended.
Lovely hotel in the heart of a lovely town. Very convenient to shopping and restaurants, as well as to Schloss Linderhof. Parking is located in a public lot around the corner but is free with hotel dash tag. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculately cared for and very comfortable.
Nice quaint hotel in the downtown. Beds were not so comfortable and it is loud be the breakfast room.
Hotel was centrally located downtown. Lovely breakfast, included. Nice restaurant also. Friendly staff communicates well in English. We spent 5 nights with short drives to area sites, between Munich Oktoberfest weekends.
excellent location, beautiful views, had a spacious suite for 3 persons, the breakfast was very good, completely satisfied
This was a two-day stop on a 10-day road trip through Bavaria and into Italy. The Whittlesbach is a fully updated hotel with the feel of a cozy inn, right in the middle of Oberammergou's central area of shops, restaurants and historic landmarks. The shops are mostly tourist-oriented, selling the wood crafts and cuckoo clocks for which the village is famous. Our room was totally modern and comfortable as to beds, fixtures, bathrooms, etc. We enjoyed the large windows and a door out to a terrance, with views across the village and to the mountains. The staff was especially personable and attentive to every need. Parking is in non-reserved spaces in a lot next to the hotel. The hotel has a restaurant, but we opted for a Mexican cantina on a back street on the first night, since we had been eating German and Italian food for several days. Don't miss a short walk to the high-Baroque Rococo Catholic Parish Church St. Peter and Paul, including the cemetery and its memorial to two centuries of the community's war dead.

Convenient place , very good service in an affordable price
Spent one night at this updated hotel. I have stayed in the area before but never this hotel. What a pleasant surprise this hotel turned out to be. You can tell it has been around for a while but has had a recent make over and with it they have kept the charm but added a bit of style. The location is great in the middle of the town with shops and restaurants out the front door. -- The room was nice sized and bathroom updated. Think it needs a kettle to make tea or coffee but other than that it was fine and typical German Spartan bedding. Not bad but very German. Bed was comfortable. They could offer some toiletries like lotion and conditioner. -- WIFI was free and strong -- Parking was also free and available just outside the hotel. I can see where it might be limited in peak times. -- Breakfast was good and included a good selection of hot and cold items. -- Customer Service was pleasant and professional Overall - I would recommend the hotel and would stay here again.
Nice place to stay, in the midst dale of the city. Beautiful environment, all in colors...nice to walk and the breakfasts are delicious
We had an amazing time! Staff was friendly, breakfast was superb , and room was very spacious. We would prefer a softer mattress but overall perfect stay.
Loved the hotel, staff, and location. The staff went out of their way for us and gave us a room with a great view of the mountains and with a balcony. I would definitely stay here again in the future. Just about everything is within walking distance of the hotel.
All was amazing- the personal very friendly, guided to take a walking around in nice green area. The hotel clean and well designed .
We only stayed one night as we were heading towards Fussen and the castles. The town is very quaint and pretty for a one evening stay.
Hotel staff are very friendly, nice family hotel, good restaurant, highly recommend!
Awesome Hotel and amazing staff!! Very knowledgeable of the area with great recommendations for activities and restaurants. Hotel is centrally located in the town square. Comfortable room with great wifi and plenty of hot water!
We thought it would be boring staying in Oberammergau for three nights and over New Year's eve. We loved everything about it, the houses, the streets, the few restaurants, the food, the crafts and shops, and the traditions. We found it very hard having to say goodbye.
Staff was excellent, Hotel was excellent
We had a very spacious room with a balcony. The bathroom was modern and clean. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We would stay here again.
Amazing town and took trip to castle and Lake Constance nearby
Excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and comfortable. Only letdown was lack of wifi in the rooms, which is really becoming a necessity.
We found this hotel last minute and were very happy with our stay. It is in a great location. Great value! The room was large and accommodated our baby's crib well. We called ahead to confirm and let them know of the baby's crib and our dog. This helped them reserve a larger room for our needs. We also really appreciated our dog being able to stay with us. For comfort, since there was room, it would have been nice to have a stuffed chair for sitting.
Close to downtown, had beautiful views out of our room window. Room was clean and nicely furnished.
The Hotel was comfortable and clean. Our room was very large and had a big balcony. The staff was very helpful and even allowed us to eat early since we had an early reservation for the Castles. (breakfast is normally served from 8-10am). The breakfast buffet was one of the best we have every had at a hotel. It included eggs, bacon, sausage, a wide variety of breads, jams, cheese, meats, yogurt, cereal and fruit.
Excellent stay. Good food
Lovely and friendly hotel
I thought I already did this, but either way, we had a great sleep with helpful staff right downtown. Perfect location with free parking off site and a breakfast that made you feel at home in gmas house. No in room wifi, or ac but that was ok. It was unseasonably hot in the Alps but problem solved by opening the windows at night. Would absolutely recommend this family friendly hotel to anyone.
Wonderful hotel en very friendly. One remark, the WiFI is poor. Only in the lobby.
Lovely location, nice atmosphere, very nice and friendly staff. Room spacious with in our case lovely balcony. Only comments would be the shower which changed from between hot and cold and back uncommanded and weak WLAN outside of lobby area. A great addition to the room would be a water-heater for tea or coffee in evenings.
Excellent location with many shops and restaurant around, but rooms are a bit too small and no free Wifi in rooms
Fine hotel in very cute town in Bavaria. We stayed here randomly but quite liked it. Folks were friendly and room was fine. Nothing spectacular but perfectly comfortable.
A good hotel in the most convenient as well as central location in town. Moreover, excellent value for money. Had a most pleasant stay there.
Spent two nights here ( far too short a time in such a beautiful town). It's picture-postcard facade and central location is what first drew me to choosing this hotel - but it's real charm is evident once you set foot inside. Lorenzo, the hotel's owner, made us feel at home immediately - for a couple of Australians of Indian descent in a small Bavarian town - that's no mean feat! His multi-lingual expertise, intimate knowledge of the area and warm, helpful nature made our short stay at the Wittelsbach unforgettable.
Visiting the Ludwig Castles (Neuschwanstein and Linderhof) and the Zugspitz with family. Oberammergau is the perfect little Bavarian village, and the Hotel Wittelsbach is right in the middle of town. I have stayed here a few times, and would highly recommend it. Very nice buffet breakfast, and they provide a parking pass so you can park at any public spot in the middle of town for free. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
We have stayed at the Wittlebach Hotel five times. Rooms are large, comfortable, and very clean. Staff members are pleasant and very helpful. Petra moved her car so that I could park near the hotel when we arrived late at night. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were very much appreciated. The meals in the hotel restaurant were well prepared and delicious. The breakfast was expansive and superb! we look forward to our next visit. Robert Hulsebus,Ph.D.
Nice hotel for a good price _directly_ in the center of town. Breakfast was also good with eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, bread, yogurts, cereals, juices, etc. Some reviews complained about dated décor, but who cares? It was slightly charming, definitely comfortable, and within walking distance of everything. I will stay here again the next time I'm in Oberammergau.
Very nice hotel in the center of town, easy access very friendly staff.
Very nice stay. Staff was accommodating for all questions and requests. Nice small mountain town.
Authentic Bavarian hotel. Small rooms but comfortable. Friendly staff. They recommended a couple of nearby restaurants and the one we chose was excellent. Convenient location and the free parking was within a block. Breakfast was good.
Wife and I spent a night here - had a wonderful experience. Everything was perfect - room was nice and relatively large. Bathroom had been recently remodeled and was nicer than all of the major chain hotels' bathrooms we stayed at. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was very nice, and they even personalized it with our name at our table. Great hotel, great little town. Only regret is that we didn't stay longer!
Wonderfu , clean hotel in a great location. Staff were very nice and helpful! Would definitely stay here again.
Wonderful place to explore. Loved all the wood carvings and the paintings on the buildings. Enchanting!
Both myself and my husband booked a short stay at this hotel and were extremely satisfied with the staff friendliness and extreme comfort in this hotel. It was like your "home away from home". Everything about this hotel was fantastic. Ideal location, easy to get to and post card scenic views. Would absolutely recommend you stay here as it will be the highlight of your vacation.
Visited this town once before for the Passion Play. Chose to stay this time to visit all of the Bavarian sites -- Zugspitz, Eagle's Nest, Neuschwanstein and picked a great place! The room was spacious, the beds comfortable, the bathroom beautifully remodeled. The staff couldn't be nicer and were all so helpful. Hotel did not lose its old-world charm yet had modern amenities. Each guest is greeted in the morning with their name on a little chalkboard on one of the breakfast tables next to a floral arrangement. Really cute if you're into that sort of thing. Hope I didn't spoil the surprise for anyone! Great little town, not too big and not too small. Good restaurants. Good shopping. Wood carvers everywhere. Hotel is directly in the center of town. I would highly recommend visiting Oberammergau and staying at the Wittelsbach!
