Ryokan Katsutaro

Great location. Very helpful and friendly staff, went above and beyond our expectations.

Room was a little bit crowded for 4 people + a baby. Narrow and steep staircase leading up to the rooms, need to be careful.

It was such a nice cozy place to stay right smack in Ueno Tokyo. Despite the age of the place you can see it’s being well maintained and taken care of by the family running it. The room we stayed in was so comfy and quite spacious for Tokyo and yet it was so much more cost effective than the surrounding hotels. I have to commend the hosts they were incredibly kind and generous people, and I am glad to support their family running business in the heart of Tokyo.

Da wir einen frühen Flug hatten, wurde uns ohne Aufpreis sofort ein früherer Check-in angeboten, und auch beim Weiterschicken unseres Gepäcks waren die Gastgeber sehr hilfreich. Das Zimmer selbst bietet den typisch japanischen Charme eines Ryokans, und es war auch für drei Personen mit viel Gepäck ausreichend Platz. Die Zimmer sind oben, im Ergeschoß findet man einen kleinen Gemeinschaftraum mit einer Mikrowelle, in dem man essen bzw. mit anderen Gästen plaudern kann. Gekühltes Trinkwasser, Tee und Kaffee stehen hier kostenlos zur Verfügung. In unmittelbarer Nähe des Quartiers befindet sich der Ueno Park, in wenigen Minuten erreicht man den Bahnhof Ueno, oder, noch etwas schneller und einfacher, die U-Bahn-Station Nezu. Der berühmte Nezu-Schrein ist in etwa 20 Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar. Wir haben uns hier alle sehr wohl gefühlt, es war das gemütlichste Quartier auf unserer ganzen Reise. Sollten wir wieder einmal nach Japan kommen, werden wir ganz sicher versuchen, wieder hier ein Zimmer zu bekommen.

Es war alles bestens, nur die Treppe hinauf zu den Zimmern ist ziemlich steil. Aber zum Glück hat uns der Gastgeber geholfen, die großen Koffer hinaufzubekommen.

L'accueil est plutôt familial. Les futons sont très confortables. Le nettoyage est impeccable. Le linge de lit et de bain fourni est nickel et changé régulièrement. Il est possible d'utiliser un réfrigérateur et un espace commun pour manger (avec eau chaude, micro-ondes et eau fraîche). Un machine à laver (payante) et un sèche-linge sont à disposition.

Il n'y a qu'un WC et qu'une salle de bains partagés, ce qui peut être un peu juste pour les chambres qui les utilisent. Aucune restauration n'est possible sur place, contrairement à ce qui est courant dans des Ryokan traditionnels.

The set up was traditional japanese, comfortable clean and very practical. Location was also great, very close to some key attractions (temples, Ueno park and short walk to near by stations.

The Ryokan owner is exceptionally friendly and helpful! Great price and fantastic location—it might not look that way on a map, since the Nezu Metro station isn't on the most useful line, but there are frequent taxis outside and a bus stop less than 50m from your door that will take you to Ueno Station (and more) for 100¥. Also, Pete Seeger once stayed here in 1986, which is pretty cool to some of us!

I found it a little hard to manage the air conditioner in my room—it ran quite cold. Better than the alternative in a hot Tokyo summer, though.

Confortable et calme. Il faut marcher un peu pour rejoindre Ueno, mais ce n’est pas dérangeant. La chambre est grande, et il est appréciable d’avoir accès à un frigo partagé.

La ubicación es muy buena y el ryokan muy agradable. Si bien el baño era compartido, en ningún momento tuve grandes esperas.

Very cute and homey. Neighborhood is quiet and metro isn’t too far away. Owners are very friendly.

Stairs are steep and narrow.

L'emplacement est idéal dans un quartier de maisonnettes et de petits immeubles à quelques minutes à pied du parc, des musées et des étangs de Ueno. En quelques minutes on s'écarte du tumulte de la ville. Accueil chaleureux. Esthétique Ryokan (sans les portes coulissantes) donc futon et tatami.

Même si la taille des chambres est correcte, c'est exigu. L'évier partagé sur le palier, l'unique toilette au fond d'un minuscule couloir, l'entrée étriquée : le charme vieillot atteint ses limites. L'endroit a du cachet mais ne conviendra pas à tous les styles de voyageurs. Attention au petit escalier très raide si vous avez quelques difficultés motrices.

Hosts were very friendly and helpful, with clear and easy instructions for coming and going, lots of info on the local areas and beyond. Such a nice neighbourhood and easy walking through Ueno park to the train station for getting around. There is washing 400 yen, and free drying! Highly recommended!

It’s a charming ryokan that is a bit dated but full of character, located near Ueno Park in a quiet neighbourhood. The owners are very kind and helpful. The location is ideal for exploring the Ueno and Yanaka districts on foot, as well as Asakusa. Akihabara and Ginza are also easy to reach by metro, as are most eastern parts of Tokyo. Getting to Shinjuku is a bit less convenient, but we only needed to go there when leaving Tokyo, so we simply took a taxi.

廁所只有一間，住在一樓還要爬陡峭的樓梯上樓上廁所、洗澡，分明一樓也有廁所，但老闆說什麼都不願意讓旅客使用。

Il bagno ha la porta che non rimane aperta e quindi se si fa la doccia rimane tutta l’umidità dentro ma è un problema che può essere risolto mettendo un peso che tenga ferma la porta. In più manca una presa in bagno per il phon

L’accueil est chaleureux et le directeur très sympathique. Très à l’écoute, donne de bonnes informations. Nous étions dans une véritable ambiance du Japon !

Lovely place by the Ueno Park in a quiet neighbourhood. It's easy to get to the station/s and exprore the city and walk in the nice areas of Nezu as well. The room with tatami is cosy and clean. The Owner is an nice person and it was a pleasure to stay at the ryokan. I would love to come back, arigatou!

房間的空間很大，榻榻米和棉被睡起來很舒服。

預定時已經知道沒電梯，但實際扛行李確實比較吃力。但是這是因為自己購物買太多太重了。

Un ryokan très bien placé proche du parc Ueno. Petits restaurants très bons dans le quartier et bon pdj à l'extérieur dans le parc le week end qui s'appelle "Everyone" et il y a un autre café toujours pour le pdj qui s'appelle "Café Lapin" à 1,5km du ryokan, c'est très sympa. Chambre très propre, les serviettes de toilette sont changés tous les jours. Salle de bains avec baignoire très propre avec sèche cheveux. Merci au propriètaire qui parle anglais d'être disponible et aux petits soins pour ses hôtes. Merci de nous avoir emmenés à la gare pour aller à l'aéroport Haneda car il pleuvait beaucoup. Belle adresse à recommander pour celles et ceux qui souhaitent dormir sur des futons.

l'intérêt évidemment c'est le ryokan en lui même... l'emplacement est très intéressant entre Nezu (vibrant) et Yanaka (reposant)... le park Ueno à côté...un havre de verdure et de tranquillité dans ce furieux et anonyme Tokyo... Tout semble pensé à l'intérieur de cette maison et cela la rend agréable dans les détails...

AAH !!! Le pendant du Ryokan et sa promiscuité (tout dépend des voisins sur lesquels nous avons...) Et puis l'on considère que l'on fréquente ce lieu uniquement pour dormir...Avec le respect à avoir pour leurs propriétaires....

Great location, friendly and good value

總體來說是溫馨舒適的日式旅館，環境非常乾淨，感覺得到旅館主人的用心維護。旅館周圍安靜，下午入住時連拖行李箱的聲音都顯得很大聲。距離方面步行到根津站或上野站也沒有想像中那麼久。附近也有好吃的餐廳，旅館對面有一間小小商店，販賣各種不同的酒和各式下酒菜、麵包等等（買到超級好吃的起司和洋芋片），逛完熱鬧擁擠的市區之後可以回到這麼安靜的地方真的很棒！旅館內的設施也很齊全，有投幣式洗衣機、烘衣機、冰箱、小烤箱和微波爐。

Ryokan tradizionale dotato di tutto quanto serve. Posizione molto buona in un bel quartiere vicino al parco di Ueno e a 10 minuti dalla metro.

L’emplacement proche du parc ueno est parfait. La chambre est simple mais confortable. La salle de bain est partagé mais la douche est très spacieuse

Attention l’escalier est très pentu. Ne conviens pas au gens qui ont des difficultés à se déplacer.

Bardzo dobra lokalizacja, z jednej najbliższa okolica była bardzo cicha, bez tłumów turystów, z drugiej do słynnego parku Ueno było naprawdę niedaleko. Wystrój bardzo klimatyczny, o takich ryokanach właśnie myśleliśmy, planując wyjazd do Japonii. Bardzo dobrym rozwiązaniem były dodatkowe ogólnodostępne toaleta i (osobno) prysznic, w świetny sposób ułatwiające rozładowanie wieczornej kolejki. Doceniam pomysł oferowania kimon do spania.

Rozmiar pokoju bardzo typowy dla Japonii, cztery futony zajmowały ok. 3/4 powierzchni podłogi. Tylko jedno nie za duże okno. Wchodzenie z dużą walizką po stromych schodach jest pewnym wyzwaniem.

We loved our spacious traditional-style room. It was perfect for our group of three. The futon beds were extremely comfortable. The hosts were exceptionally lovely and helpful, assisting us with storing our luggage before and after our check out. It is a small family-run inn, with a very warm, welcoming vibe. There is shared shower and toilet, which is always very clean. The location was fantastic, a short walk to Ueno Park and many delicious restaurants, and museums. It is a great place to stay to explore Tokyo, with access to beautiful green trees in the park, as well all the exciting busy attractions of Tokyo. We would definitely stay here again if visiting Tokyo.

Le ryokan est parfait ! L’hôte est d’une gentillesse incroyable et très arrangeant. Notre chambre était équipée d’une douche et d’un toilette privatifs et les futons très confortables. Le quartier est calme, très sympathique après l’agitation de la journée et bien situé à proximité de la station de Nezu. Nous reviendrons sans hésiter !

It was in a quiet area and close to Ueno station(15 min walk) and Nezu station(7min) The owners were welcoming, helpful and cleaned the bedroom regularly. We were lucky enough to get a room with a bathroom. Area for coffee teas and to eat and drink downstairs. Small microwave and oven available. Washing machine that took 4000yen and dryer that could be used

The location is a bit far from Ueno Station, but the nearest access is Nezu Station on the Toei Subway line.

Traditional stay, very clean. Great location to experience a residential area in Tokyo, with a few restaurants nearby but also very quite at night.

Ryokan typique qui existe depuis très longtemps, personnel vraiment très gentil et arrangeant. On s’y sent très vite bien !

The walk from Ueno station is straight but not very interesting. Nezu station is a nicer walk.

Ausgezeichnete Lage, nettes Viertel, sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Gastgeber.

Eigentlich alles gut. Wir hatten für zwei Nächte das Zimmer mit Bad gebucht. Man sollte wissen, dass das Bad nachträglich eingebaut ist und das Raumgefühl des Tatamiraums etwas beeinträchtigt. Würde ich das nächste Mal anders machen. Etwas schräg war, dass wir eines Vormittags nochmal zufällig zurückkamen und unsere Zimmertür sperrangelweit aufstand und jeder den Raum betreten konnte oder zumindest unser ganzes Reiseequipment begutachten. Die Reinigungskraft war in einem anderen Raum zugange. Diese Vorhehensweise sollten Sie dringend ändern!

This is the perfect place for people that need peace when you visit Tokyo. Rooms are huge compare to the rest of hotels you can get in Japan in general. Toilet a bit small but you can make it. Great water pressure. The location is pretty good, near Ueno station about 1km and another important Line ( Nezu i think) but imporant that if you bring big luggage, you will need to walk some narrow areas. Very close to Ueno park. The host are very kind and sweet

Great value for the one week I stayed there. Electric kettle provided. 7 minute walk from Nezu metro station. Coin laundry and dryer available. Helpful staff with room cleaning service available. Small family-owned convenience store nearby.

Room wasn't the cleanest, had a few missed scraps. Ground floor room is right next to stairs and can get noisy in the mornings/evenings, with noisy cars occasionally speeding past adjacent main road outside. Bath was ice cold in midwinter and hot water takes minutes to get running. Quite far from central Ueno station (20 mins walk) and convenience store chains.

It was a wonderful place, it had everything I needed! Close to the train stations and food nearby! Also Ueno zoo and Ueno park were close! The room was quite spacious enough even for two people, very informative hosts as well!

Posto rustico, non aspettatevi un grad hotel. Era proprio quello che cercavamo noi
