Excellent location, friendly service, good amenities and good breakfast. Everything went smoothly and staff was friendly. A bit outdated hotel, but it didn't matter to us.
Excellent hotel!
Very happy I picked this hotel, staff are super friendly and helpful, my room is clean and spacious with an amazing view of the river and the mountains(room41) free coffee, water and cake. They also have games with chess and a pool table etc a sauna which I didn’t know about and a garden at the back looking over the river. I will be returning to this hotel every time I’m back in Chamonix.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and we made good use of the sauna room. Would book again.
Great views of the mountains when the weather permits. Great staff for local information. Really nice variety for the breakfast.
Very nice accommodations to explore Chamonix
Nice hotel in great location on the river super helpful staff very reasonable prices great breakfast overall very happy with our stay
Wonderful garden, I could spend hours sitting in. Helpful and hospitable staff!
This is such a lovely hotel. It's centrally located. Rooms are very spacious with lots of storage. The staff is kind and accommodating. The breakfast is amazing! Don't skip it. I highly recommend.
Enjoyed our 2-night stay!! Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast!! Close to train station and numerous restaurants, shops and bars. Perfect location right on the river!!! Would definitely stay here again!
The hotel was old, smelly and there was no shower. Just a knee high shower head. Water temperature varied all the time. It smelt like a very old ski resort.
Amazing hotel, lovely 2 bed apartment with super new, high quality finish. Great breakfast, access to free drinks/cake on arrival, nice games room, free parking, garden area next to river, couldn't fault the stay!
The only thing going well for this property is the location and the friendly staff at the front desk. We stayed in Room 35 from June 25-30 2025 and I couldn't wait to leave. - We asked for a higher floor and a fan in the room while making the reservation; both of which were not available. Fan was provided from day 2 after having words with the receptionist on day 1. - The floor in the toilet area was uneven and soft under my feet; I was greatful I didn't fall through! The toilet area had no sink; where am I supposed to wash my hands after? If I am to use the sink in the bathroom, then why bother separating the toilet from the entire bathroom? - There were just 2 electrical outlets in the room; 1 in the bathroom and 1 behind the bedside table which was hard to get to. It was very difficult to charge our devices there. - The tiles in the balcony were shaking under our feet; it was very easy to lose balance and fall there. - The room was tiny ; there was insufficient space to store luggage, the street lights bothered us at night, breakfast was mediocre at best (no warm food; just processed food, bread, real honey and some whole fresh fruit). We came from a fabulous stay at a 3 star hotel in Beckenried, Switzerland. This hotel should not be a 3 star by any stretch of imagination.
Loved staying here! Loved the sauna & outdoor area. Great location!
This is a lovely hotel, close to the central area of Chamonix. Breakfast was very good, with many options, including gluten free breads. We very much enjoyed our stay.
This was a comfortable "budget-friendly" (for Europe in the summer) hotel with a decent location (easily walkable to the train station, stores and restaurants, though further from the Chamonix Sud bus station everything seems to leave from). We had a two bedroom apartment which was clean and roomy. Main issue with the hotel was TOTAL LACK OF CLIMATE CONTROL. I appreciate that the weather was warmer than normal (highs in the 80s), but they really need to invest in some ceiling fans at a minimum, and AC in the bedrooms would be better. Extremely hot at night, windows lacked screens and didn't let in much air, noisy courtyard made for very poor sleeping conditions.
All good
This hotel is in a perfect location in Chamonix. Only about 1 block from the main area, but far enough away so that it's quiet and peaceful. Super close to the restaurants and bars but not on top of them. Located right on the river, with a nice courtyard to sit in and enjoy the scenery. It's an older hotel, with no air conditioning, but very nicely maintained and clean. They have a water filling station in the lobby and cake as well for the guests. We were there during the race and there was a lot of activity at the hotel and in town. Everyone at the hotel was so nice! From check-in to departure, I had a lot of questions and they patiently answered every one of them. I wish I could remember their names, but Ophelie (?) at check-in was super nice. Another front desk individual helped with restaurant recommendations and which launderette to go to. I'm already planning on coming back in 2 years to run one of the races, and will definitely stay here again. One tip: spend the extra money to get one of the balcony rooms overlooking the river. It would probably help cool the room at night. We were there when the heat wave was on and that would help with the temperature. Overall a great visit!
Well located, comfortable beds, decent breakfast. Sadly moldy bathrooms and all a bit dated but ok for a night. Friendly and accommodating.
Gorgeous! Memorable, great location, exceptional hospitality, and more. Three spacious rooms. We walked through town all the way to the cable car Aiguille du Midi. No need for car. We kept our car in lot at hotel no charge. Breakfast quite delicious and special.
The view from our room was the one on the website along the river with the mountains in the back ground. Hard to argue that was not outstanding. The room was dated but reasonable for the price. The staff was very helpful.
Friendly reception both morning and evening
The rooms were very outdated. Felt kinda dirty but most likely just old. The staff and shared area was great. I would not stay here again but if you are not looking for luxury it’s fine. I would have preferred a little more comfort.
Great hotel, with a excellent location just at the edge of the pedestrian area. The views from the garden (open to everyone) are amazing. We were staying in a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartments are in a different building. We got the one on top floor that has the best view (on the aiguilles de Chamonix, and aiguilles rouges on the other side, but the view of mont blanc is obstructed). The other apartments didn't seem to have much view, but it doesn't matter as much since you can just go sit in the garden and enjoy the view there. The best part was the service, that was above and beyond, especially from the person that was there in the evening. From what we have seen, the hotel rooms have a bit more character than the apartments (and some a really nice view), but for us the 2 bedroom was a great value as everyone could have their room, and we also a had a kitchen and a washing machine
I stayed here June 2nd and 3rd, checking out on the 4th. When I returned from being out on the 3rd (about 7:30pm), I noticed that there was a lot of construction dust on my car. My car was parked in front of the hotel so I assumed it may have been blown onto the car during construction that is going on next door. However, overnight night I realized that no other cars had the same dust. I realized that it was purposely thrown onto my car. Upon closer inspection, and after some rain that night, I realized the substance was a white powdery mixture of sand. I could only assume it was a dry cement mixture. I immediately notified the hotel the morning of the 4th and had the front desk clerk come inspect my car. His comment was “just take it to a car wash and wash it down”. He also noticed the sand and verbally confirmed that’s what it was. I noticed a camera in the front of the hotel and asked for the hotel to review footage to see who had done this. My guess is it was done sometime between 3-6pm on the 3rd and there should be clear footage of the incident. I was told by the hotel they would get back to me last week. I’ve heard nothing. I would not recommend this hotel considering that construction is ongoing and parking is an issue (see photos). Also, I was parked in a spot marked “P” (see photo). There should have been no issue with my car since it was parked properly.
Lovely staff, they were super helpful and friendly. It’s old, but it’s comfortable and really affordable!
Friendly and helpful staff! We were pleasantly surprised to learn that they offer a variety of coffee-tea and water 24/7. Everyday at 4pm they offer a little dessert like marble cake! Their outdoor space faces the mountain with the river running alongside it. It’s quite lovely and comfortable. Our room had a little balcony. Be sure to ask for a room on the 2nd floor or above facing the mountain. Parking can be tricky as it fills up fast. It’s centrally located with restaurants, shops down the street and the Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers Mer de Glace within 10-15 min walking distance. Our car stayed parked our entire stay as we also used the local bus system. The carpet in the hallway could use updating. The slim stairs from the first floor to the lobby require you to pay attention on the way down. Nice lobby area with plenty of indoor seating as well. We would definitely return!
Great location and free parking. Sam at the front desk was wonderful!
A rustic hotel with awesome views of Mont Blanc. A hotel with old charm for visitors who came with the sole purpose of skiing back in the days. The amenities were minimal but we liked the experience. The room was spacious for 4 and the beds were comfortable. We didn't bother getting the hotel breakfast as there a couple of good patisseries close by for fraction where you can get breakfast for a fraction of the cost. The hotel had a good patio where we enjoyed or breakfast and scenic views of Mont Blanc. The hotel puts out cookies and treats everyday for guests to enjoy. They had a espresso machine with espresso and hot chocolate. They had a pool table and foosball table in the game room which was nice. Our overall stay was very enjoyable.
No free parking as advertised. No parking was available and therefore I had to move my vehicle to a parking garage. Hard to drop off bags due to congestion in the area. Room was old. Bathroom door didn’t open all the way. Hot water took forever to warm up.
Excellent comfortable stay for family, Nice location, good staff Highly recommended
The stay was great, the room had a little issue as one of the mirrors was broken and it could've been a safety hazard, especially with a little boy around (as we stayed with my 7 year old son in the room). I really appreciated the modern TV and the refillable water option. I think the hotel needs a bit of refurbishment in order to get a 5 star review. All in all a really good stay, location is also grea. I would recommend it.
Lovely staff great views and nice facilities.
I stayed here May 14. In the morning when trying to shower, there was no hot water. I told the front desk and the woman there acknowledged that this was a frequent problem. She spoke with a manager and said I would be refunded 10% of the room charge for my inconvenience which I accepted. Weeks later and no refund has appeared on my credit card statement.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic location. Breakfast was great. Couldn’t fault it for a weekend skiing break.
An absolutely amazing stay here. Booked this as it was reasonably priced so our expectations were not that high, but we were so impressed. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was so comfortable. Bathroom was huge- with a bath! Ideal after skiing. Breakfast was perfect with lovely views too. Complimentary water, coffee, juices all day & even cakes in the afternoon was such a nice touch. & finally the staff were so so nice and helpful, especially Samar who helped us so much with booking excursions and giving us advice for our trip. Her English is brilliant and she went above and beyond to accommodate us! Would definitely stay again.
Could not have been a better experience and the staff went above and beyond.
Lovely property with everything you need and the location is excellent. Staff were lovely too… My only moan is the toilet in the apartment was not on the same floor as the bedrooms.
Awesome apartment . A bit overkill for 3 of us . There was 3 bedrooms with 3 double beds and two single beds . But really spot on .
We stayed for a week from the 12th February. All I can say is what a wonderful experience it was. The staff, particularly Samar, could not do enough for us and was extremely informative. It is a 3 star hotel and could perhaps do with a little sprucing up in same areas and could suggest coffee making facilities in the rooms, but that would certainly not deter us from booking again. It’s a ‘Happy Culture Hotel’ by name and nature! It’s very central, yet tucked away for a quieter stay.
Great hotel in central Chamonix. All the staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. A great base from which to explore the Alps. Table football too! Recommend.
Great Location and friendly staff. Daily breakfast offering were excellent. Great value and I would stay here again.
Loved this hotel - really friendly, knowledgeable staff, nice big bedrooms, decent breakfast and great location. Just a short stroll into Chamonix but set back away from the noise. Ski lift to Brevent about 100 metres away, and buses to le Tour and Grand Montets just around the corner. Tiny (cute) little bar, but quote a lot of seating space with pool table, table football etc. I've stayed 4 star the last couple of years and paid twice the price, much preferred this 3 star hotel. Sure it could do with a lick of paint here and there, but for me it gets top marks for all the important stuff.
Very clean hotel, friendly staff, conveniently located. I highly recommend this hotel.
We had two nights here. The Hôtel de l'Arve is a round a 7 minute walk from the railway station (we arrived by train) and literally 2 minutes from the town centre with all amenities (shops & restuarants) The reception staff were very friendly and we received a free room upgrade. Free tea / coffee and hot chocolate are available 24 hours per day from a machine in the reception / lounge area and at 2pm each day they provide a cake for guests to use. My only complaint - a woman who was dealing with breakfast - checking room number and replenishing items. She had a cold and was constantly coughing into her hands. Her hands would then handle the food that you were about to eat :-(
Great atmosphere
Good place. Good staff. Good location. Good breakfast buffet.
Fantastic stay and friendly staff.. we loved it. Amazing experience and food was delicious.. Thanks so much.
The hotel acts as a convenient base to explore Chamonix and the surrounding area. It has all the basics needed with good size rooms. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Although there are no tea or coffee facilities in the room, the hotel does provide hot and cold drinks in the lobby, and cake at 1600 each day is a nice touch. There was a good breakfast selection, and some excellent local produce.
Wonderful Hotel. Excellent service with affordable price. Very accommodating staff too. Hotel is Close to everything. They have unlimited free hot and cold drinks plus cakes. Overall, We enjoyed our stay and we are able to use the sauna by ourselves, just needed to approach the reception and book.
We were so happy with this historical hotel, wonderful location, 2-5 minutes walking distance to center square Chamonix! Friendly staff, service were wonderful, afternoon free cake, it was delicious French pastries style, coffee 24/7, wooden interiors design was my favorite! I’m sure we’ll return to stay again next when we miss Mont Blanc, this hotel is our Chamonix home !
-
Excellent service!!! High standard! There was a coffee/ tea machine, a spring / sparkling water machine near the lobby. You can get hot or cold drink free any time. Buffet breakfast was included. Moreover, at 4pm delicious cakes and cookie were served free! You can borrow bicycles free as well. The lobby is bright and cosy and there were some games. The members of staff were very helpful and responded very quickly. Extraordinary good hotel!
The hotel is right on the river and just a block off the city center. Staff was amazing. Breakfast was excellent, and there was refreshments always available. The property is a little older, but well kept, safe, and quaint. We had a lovely stay and would (will) stay again!!
Absolutely loved our stay in this hotel, it was quite dated inside our room but the rest of the hotel was lovely. The staff were very polite, friendly and very helpful. The location is amazing and the views are incredible. Id definitely stay again.
It was all wonderful!
Very good
Very nice and helpful staff. Free coffee, tea and baked good. Breakfast was delicious.
Very cute hotel, the staff were very welcoming, especially Samr and Duniya, they made our stay so much better. The hotel itself was a little old fashioned but it does the job. Wouldn’t recommend for comfort but it’s in a nice location and the area is amazing.
Excelent instalations and service. Highlights: the enthusiasm and caring attitude of the staff in all areas, special thanks to Dunia. Her smile and eagerness to help are remarkable. Great asset for the organization.
Best breakfast
Wonderful place, right near town center, with the feel of a warm ski lodge. Sits next to a stream with a view of the mountains. Probably the most friendly and helpful staff group I have experienced in recent memory.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and treats available. Great location to everything.
Excellent value, close to restaurants and lifts. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast!
Excellent breakfast. Helpful, friendly staff.
Great breakfast. Nice outdoor sitting area on the river. Lovely rooms to sit in and relax.
If I could give 6 stars I would. This was honestly the best hotel experience I’ve ever had (not exaggerating), a reason to visit Chamonix alone as if the scenery and culture are not enough: We came to Hotel de L’Arve for the location; we will return for the outstanding staff, beautiful rooms, extra free perks, espresso maker, incredible patio, game room, bicycle loaners, and so much more. The Staff: mostly interacted with Dounia, Ophelia, and Samar while we were there. All of them were wonderfully charming intelligent helpful bilingual professionals that made us feel like we were staying with old friends or family. Dounia gave us great recommendations for Chamonix, found us an awesome room and even validated our pillow shopping decisions. Samar helped us with bag storage on our final day and understanding how to work a washing machine with French buttons. Ophelia literally walked us to our bus stop to make sure we made it to our connecting shuttle when we left. Where else do you see this quality of service these days! We biked (free) to breakfast and along the Arve river; sipped free lattes on our private deck in morning sunshine, drink delicious beer (on tap) in the perfectly shaded patio gazing up at the Alps as rafters floated down river beside us. We will never forget our experience at Hotel de L’Arve.
It was so lovely. Our room looked out over the river with an amazing view of Mont Blanc. We had our own little balcony.Wonderful breakfast. Great back yard hang out. Staff super friendly and local knowledge. Couldnt have been happier.
Lovely greeting on arrival by reception. Double standard room is spacious, with large bathroom and settee. Breakfast well provided for and games room was terrific for game of pool. Centrally located for walking. Supply of free coffee, tea, water and sparkling water 24/7 much appreciated. We were delighted and VERY comfortable. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful hotel! We stayed in 6 or 7 budget hotels on our holiday to France and Switzerland and this was definitely our favourite. The staff are amazing (shout out to Samir, originally from Iran). There is a gorgeous garden overlooking the Arve River you can sit in which has sun or shade all day. Sit with a free water or coffee from the machines in the lobby or with a complementary pastry/homemade cake. Our room was a standard room but had amazing views of Mont Blanc and a lovely balcony. As with all budget hotels there are cons - no air con though after a first sleepless night Samir did find me a fan. It could also do with a refresh, especially the hallways. And our room was ‘between floors’ so no lift access. The breakfast was just ok, and over priced for me (our room rate didn’t include it( We’d come back here in a flash though!
Happy Culture- the perfect description of a happy, helpful staff. The location is excellent, scant steps away from great shopping and restaurants. Don’t forget to check out the stunning patio view after a day of hiking. We can’t wait to return!
Very friendly receptionists and helfpful, Made us feel so welocme. A big thank you for the sutaff.
Fantastic accomodation, with attentive and helpful staff. Central location. Totally recommend
Excellent location. Wonderful friendly service. I would stay again. Bathrooms and flooring could use an update but the amazing friendly staff and lobby area beyond made up for that. The location is perfect just off the main area and nice and quiet.
This hotel was a real find for us. Located right in the centre of the lovely town of Chamonix, the river Arve flows behind it and along its rear garden and dining room. We were welcomed by Ophélie with tea/coffee and home-made cakes, and shown to a lovely en-suite room overlooking the front of the hotel. The other receptionist we met was Anäix who was also lovely. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough!
The staff at the front desk were fabulous. We enjoyed talking with them. They were able to recommend restaurants and things to do. The hotel was close to everything but far enough from the noise of the center of town. Each evening we had a bottle of wine out on their terrace next to the river that runs next to the hotel. Beautiful and relaxing with great views of the mountains.Close walking to the cablecars for hiking or to Aiguilles du midi. We enjoyed the hospitality of free coffee, waters and afternoon cakes. The rooms are on the smaller side but very comfy. No air conditioning so we slept with the doors open to balcony and the outside air. No bugs! Perfect for us. Highly recommend for your stay in Chamonix!
The staff was very helpful and friendly! The beds were comfortable!
Happy culture is true - what a lovely hotel, right on the river with a beautiful outdoor space. Park your car and walk everywhere - so convenient. We stayed in the two bedroom two nights and the main hotel one night - both were really special.
Wonderful reception staff- especially Samar. She was so friendly and helpful. Also liked the afternoon coffee and tea with cakes. The hotel is in a great location- in walking distance to all the sights. But the hotel is looking tired and the hallways are not adequately lit.
Amazing experience with this hotel, the service is extraordinary! Once they saw that we have 2 kids they upgraded our room for free, we didn't ask them to do that! They are superiors 😊😊 We booked one night but since the location, breakfast and service are top, we stayed 3 nights at the end. Very recommended 👌
Very friendly staff.
Nice spacious rooms. Views to the mountains and local river. Nice breakfast. Close to everything. Clean and eco-friendly
Everything you need is within walking distance. Leave you car in the parking lot after check in, and you won't need it until after you check out. The staff is excellent 👍.
Amazing location, friendly staff !
Ideal location. Comfortable, great breakfast
When the receptionist is kind and helpful everything will be ok for sure. Special thanks to Samar. The apartment is so spacious and well equipped with a view, the breakfast was good enough with a variety of delicious teas
loved it. stayed with a 4 year old. very friendly team. lovely cosy hotel. good location . walls a bit on the thin side , for one night for us it was amazing. breakfast is really good value with local foods. would come back
The staff was greate!!! The hotel is beautiful, the lobby excellent service and facilities. The room size was perfect
The hotel is dated and space is very small for 2 adults. Staff is very friendly and the afternoon cakes and coffee is nice bonus.
Great location and service
Excellent service from professional staff. Clean, great location.
Very helpful and friendly staff, excellent location, private parking and excellent restaurant next door
Extremely happy with the service I received at this hotel. Claire and the team were helpful, friendly and very accomodating. The room was clean and the hotel was cosy and comfortable. We were very impressed with the complimentary snacks and coffee. The hotel is in a fantastic location close to everything! I can’t thank the staff enough for making our stay so enjoyable and stress free! We will certainly be coming back here!
Stayed for 3 days after coming from the 3 Valleys ski area. This stay was a fantastic experience - parking was easy and convenient, check in was smooth as the gentleman was pleasant and professional. He explained the logistics of the hotel and offered info about the surrounding area. The hotel had a bar lounge area on the first floor with a pool table, foosball table, fireplace and lounging area for free afternoon teatime … it also had a small workout area with sauna/showers, climbing wall and relaxation area. Our room was spacious and had a gorgeous view of the creek and the Aiguille du Midi … Breakfast was great with a wide range of food choices along with a beautiful view from the dining area. The hotel offered a discount for Ski rental through a shop nearby and had a ski locker for use by guests. Restaurants and shopping were all around - we walked to the town center and roamed about easily. This will be our first choice if we return to Chamonix in the future - thank you L’Arve !! Booking through Expedia made it easy and all the charges were exactly as expected - bravo to both !
Great spot. Very friendly service. Complimentary tea, coffee, water and snacks is a nice touch. Big rooms. They even dropped my skis off for me as the ski shop was closed
We stayed here for the night on our way home from Les Menuires and now are thinking this could be our next destination. The staff at L’arve were helpful, delightful, and even great French teachers. Such a wonderful experience on our journey. Thanks staff at L’arve for making this an amazing experience.
Overall good hotel, just a shame about the paper thin walls and ceiling as you can hear everything, it sounded like there was an elephant stomping around above our room every night until about midnight. But the hotel was clean and friendly I wouldn’t stay again because of the noise and having a young child with us
