Lovely clean hotel looking a little tiered, meal on first night under seasoned and beef tough so could do better there. Room very warm ( why have the heating on n this weather.?). Kept running out of Prosecco But overall a nice stay .
Fantastic hotel. Every part of my stay was perfect staff very friendly and helpful, hotel and room were spotlessly clean, room was comfortable, breakfast was delicious. Far beyond my expectations.
It was very good for what I needed.
Amazing views over Chesil Beach and Weymouth. Breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly. The hotel itself feels a bit dated, stuck in the 70s–80s, and could do with a refresh.
Nice clean hotel and friendly staff. The food was excellent but there was no hospitality tray in our room. The decor is rather dated and the furniture was wobbly and old. It just needs an update but the view, the staff and the food made up for that.
Good,friendly,welcoming staff
Gorgeous view of Lyme Bay. The perfect end point for this leg of our SW Coastal hike.
The view from the restaurant is spectcular. Food is good, rooms need a make over
Terrible nights sleep. Had paid extra for premium room. But the Bed mattress definitely needs replacing. Next night moved to a smaller room. But manager would not refund the difference in room price. Just offered discount on a meal if we dined with them, but would not say how much discount. So no way would we eat just to get a minimal amount off. No brainer. Terrible Customer Service.
Fabulous position. Views amazing. Some of the friendliest and happiest staff we've come across. The rooms and dining area were spotless. Very impressed
Pros: The view is outstanding. There is always either the cafe, or the bar or the restaurant open. Cons: The rooms are outdated. Food is average and expensive. Drinks are expensive. Breakfast quite poor and if you want a cappuccino that’s £5 extra.
Lovely hotel great views
Such a wonderful place, some lovely views.
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful; they made the stay special. The views from the restaurant were wonderful; the food was very good with a good choice each evening and it tasted very nice. The disappointing part was the lack of servicing in the room. At check in we were asked if we needed new towels or the room cleaned each day and we said that it wouldn’t be necessary. However we did expect that the tea and coffee would be replenished each day and also that the bed would be made for us; neither of these things happened. If we don’t get these basic services then we should be offered a reduction in the rate for those nights. I don’t mind paying for service but I object to paying for a non- service.
The experience was amazing from start to finish. Easy check in on line, met by very friendly and helpful staff on reception. Breakfast and evening meals were absolutely delicious.
A very dated property. The view from the breakfast room is amazing and staff is very friendly. But the corridors feel like a hospital and the rooms might have been nice 30 years ago. For the rather high price point, this was sadly disappointing.
Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel a little tired although clean and staff very attentive. Great views across Chesil Beach from the restaurant, lacking in a comfortable seating area around the bar. Food was a tad lacking and evening meal pretty pricey for an average meal.
Beautiful easy access stunning views
It was ok room was a bit dated and dark needed to have tge light on most of the time was woken upp by the heating coming on the pipes were banging. Bathroom was nice Good shower.
Was told breakfast was open til 11am for the bank holiday. This was incorrect so I never got breakfast. Hotel is nice though, great location and free parking
Very friendly staff. Buffet breakfast is really good
The view from the restaurant, and the breakfast was very good
Beautiful location and great restaurant. Large confortable bed.
We always choose The Heights because, it's not only convenient but the facilities and menu are good. Also the staff are both friendly and helpful. We love the whole atmosphere.
Very nice hotel with excellent view Breakfast was good friendly staff have been here many times would recommend
Staff were excellent food options were good
Staff welcoming and attentive. All you can eat buffet breakfast and all other food good.
Portland Heights is a very pleasant hotel but bear if mind if you are on foot that it is not near facilities although has a bus stop opposite. The dining room and cafe have superb views and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. However the cafe and food is quite expensive. The room was pleasant although a little dated however I was surprised to be informed that servicing of the rooms only take place once every three days.
We were welcomed by zoe on reception who was friendly and engaging. Quicky given our room key and went to our room. The decor is a little dated but the room was spacious and warm. The bed was huge and comfy so what more could you ask for. We had breakfast which was buffet style and eat as much as you wanted. The best thing about this hotel has to be the view over Chesil beach which is amazing. We would have no hesitation staying again.
This is my second stay at the Heights as we have family who live in Southwell who we were visiting over Christmas. We enjoyed yet another great stay, the service was really good, the breakfast was amazing and we had a room on the ground floor which was really comfortable..the only complaint we had was that we couldnt turn down the heating in the bathroom but we did mention this to reception when we left. Overall another great stay!
Bed to hot NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR DISABLE VERY SMALL LIFT
This hotel is tolerable, but there are lots of annnoying things.WiFi signal in my room was weak; hardly ever worked. Tea cups are TINY. Not replenishing tea bags. Noisey pipes. No sockets near bed. Room key failed twice so I had to get a new one from reception. Everything seems to be on the cheap.
Great location and nice facilities.
Lovely location with Fantastic sea views The receptionist Zoe was very helpful and was attentive to my needs to accommodate. The room needed plug sockets next to the bed or phone charging facilities usc usb etc The bathroom was in need of an update. I would highly recommend a stay here Breakfast was brilliant with views If it’s not a rainy day!! Enjoy
The vehicle charger is slow and would be nice to see an upgrade to type 2. Love the view and the place is nice a quite, will defiantly stay again when in the area
All was pleasant
Nice view
A return to this amazing hotel. Lovely food great views staff very friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful time.
We chose this hotel for its location and views which are amazing. The hotel itself is dated and the long dark corridors to the rooms on the ground floor are not appealing. The rooms are in need of updating and decorating, ie, decent light over bathroom mirror and change shower curtain to glass screen. Room was suffient. There was a good choice for breakfast. Did not try evening restaurant however bar meals were good.
We had an emergency situation and needed a hotel for the night and arrived quite late. The gentleman manager let us in and was so helpful, offered to arrange a taxi first thing in AM and carried our heavy luggage upstairs. The room was a little barebones but clean and fine for a few hours sleep. In the morning the taxi arrived perfectly on time and again the nice manager helped with luggage. We finally got to appreciate the view, heard some interesting information from manager who was lifelong resident and the upstairs restaurant is quite lovely. I would recommend this charming hotel, the service is above and beyond and view really special for this quaint seaside island town.
Really lovely stay. Rooms a little tired but overall good
Love this place. The view is spectacular. Bit sad no longer allowed to sit in the lounge during the day, to admire the said view. We felt let down that this option is no longer feasible. Not sure why. Not told the reason. The cafe doesn’t have the same appeal I’m afraid.
Property was in a great location with fantastic views and very handy for public transport with stops outside hotel door.
Great location, outstanding views, friendly & personable staff. A home away from home!
The hotel is quite old. At first we got a vwry smelly and tiny room (paid for extra large) but aftwr immediate complain, we get a better one. Staff is very friendly. Restaurant though is not the best - food is so, so, staff is so, so. You can't seat whre you want - you'll be seated in a herd, together with others, even when is nearly empty because that how they do it ... Not the cheapest either.
Great place for contractors working at the local prisons , clean rooms with comfy beds and decent showers and a fantastic breakfast selection.Would absolutely stay here again .
Lovely views of Chesil Beach. Breakfast very good.
We had a great stay ,staff are great food very good and we enjoyed iur room. Our concern was Room 132 backed on to a side road with vehicles and pedestrians passing our window on a regular basis. The cost of this room should be discounted due to this. But overall a great basis to explore Portland
Great staff great location sunset is fantastic would definitely recommend
The hotel staff, food and drink were absolutely fab. The room we stayed in was good .only downside i would say would be an area that you could sit outside have a drink and smoke .. overall very nice place and the views were stunning
Returning guests
Comfortable room, a little tired but lovely stay and perfect location.
Nice hotel great views and good food.
Always an enjoyable stay at the Heights.
Somewhat older property but very clean. Serves a very good breakfast with an exceptional view of the Weymouth coastline
We really enjoyed our night here. Room was spacious and well appointed. Very quiet too. The restaurant has the most amazing views! Hard too concentrate on the delicious food without looking our of the windows. Great service from everyone in the hotel. Wished we had booked to stay a bit longer as there was more to see on Portland than we expected.
Most things very good. Service for evening meals 3/4 if an hour waiting for dessert. Decided to leave. Manager not very nice just said in a hard voice very busy to other guests. Reception ladies excellent, very helpful.
M
We only went for two days, but the service was great. Check in was easy and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was good but a little out dated. Decor needs modernising. Amazing views from the restaurant.
Overall a very friendly stay, food was good, view amazing! Always very helpful staff from reception to cleaning staff, all said Good Morning and were generally very cheerful. Room was a nice size, en-suite fine. Only issue was the shower which was fixed quickly and easily. Restaurant always friendly and helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay with a newborn child. Bet and Poppy were very courteous, Zoe in reception was also amazing. We felt extremely welcomed so thank you. The breakfast was just sublime. Just a few bits of other feedback. The ventilation in the bathroom is quite poor, the bed mattress was also uneven making sleeping uncomfortable. Overall, we will come back again and stay.
Fantastic location, staff are great and the food is good.
Very pleasant stay, would stay again
Pleasant stay, Good sized rooms Staff very helpful
The view from the restaurant was amazing. Lovely location.
Nice hotel with amazing views from the front. Great location to get around and explore.
Staff were friendly but problems with staffing in the kitchen meant long wait for food on a couple of days.
We were not at all happy at waiting an hour for our evening meal. To say you were busy is not the answer i know what i am talking about as i was in the trade. Plus it was a bit of a shock to be told our room would only be cleaned every three days meaning our was not cleaned as we were only there three days so no bed made no bathroom cleaned no bins emptied staff were very kind breakfast very nice when we arrived all very clean but expected it to be cleaned daily. From lesley Kelly
Thos was our 5th stay in Portland and 4th time at Heights Hotel. Cannot praise it enough! Perfect location for exploring Portland Island, very short drive to Weymouth, amazing food, incredible room service, staff is brilliant (huge shout out to Denise who's been accommodating and friendly as ever!), rooms are clean, bed's comfy... We started calling Heights our home away from home!
The hotel had a good view but it was very dirty and smelly. The rooms are so small. The breakfast was terribly. There was a lady called Tracey I ask her can u change my room but she said no and she was so rude. She has put my holiday off mood etc. This hotel is over priced.
Excellent location and customer service
Very good
Firstly my Wife and I were made very welcome. We were given a free hot drink on arrival and when we git to our room immediately impressed by the cleanliness soace and comfort too. The views from our room was exceptional 👌 Secondly service in general was first class, friendly and helpful staff specially in bistro bar. Breakfast is most enjoyable and delicious. Evening meal in Bistro bar from our experience was delicious and satisfying. I will conclude by saying in honesty to recommend highly the Heights Hotel, Portland. You will be assured of a memorable, comfortable and pleasant holiday.
We arrived a bit early but reception were great and also gave us an upgrade! It was a beautiful place to stay.
Very polite lady at reception which was a nice welcome. Rooms perfectly adequate, clean etc. however the halls could do with a revamp. Feels like you’re walking around a prison. Best hotel on the island though. Great views and nice Brekki.
Views
Our stay was excellent. Our room was clean fresh and tidy, bed linen and towels were fresh and white. Reception staff were so friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very nice with views to die for. The food was very good with a good selection on the menu, and the staff were very attentive and helpful. Our only complaint was that the drinks are rather overpriced. The hotel is situated with views across the sea and over the town. A bus stop outside took you all over Dorset, and we could use our bus pass.
Very welcoming, high standards, and just overall a fantastic place to be
The stay was little uncomfortable for me. I booked a room and when i arrived they gave me a room while checking my ID and in the middle of the night office staff came and said they have a misunderstanding, the room they gave was not the room allocated for me and so they have to changed me to another room. Such a disastrous behavior ftom the hotel staff...
It was a nice hotel with pleasant staff
Setting is magnificent
Great staff and food hoping to return in September
always make u welcome soon as u walk though the door and staff r very helpful and the food is great
Almost rated it excellent except for small irritations; but mainly as avid readers we were disappointed with the poor lighting. It would be helpful on arrival, to be told about the servicing arrangements.
Check in was fine the gentleman offered to help me with luggage day staff was okay there wasba young man in the Bistro on Sunday thumbs up to him he was joyful engaged with me welcoming thats what i expected to feel like we're welcomed there i didnt get that from the others the room was not what i expected for one i had to throw away my fruits there was no miniature fridge drinks got warm bathroom was okay but being a cleaner myself the towel rail was not spotless the toilet bowl had a ring round it not sure if its limescale build up i wasnt happy with that toilets are a put off not throughly clean otherwise food is good room was what we made it
Lovely views. Quiet.
Bed was uncomfortable and room could have done with an update along with other areas in the hotel but the view is great and the food was very good both in the bistro and breakfast
great place to stay and explore Portland, lovely location with fantastic views to chisel beach and Waymouth .
The food, the staff and the view were amazing. Loved it. The TV was made was made for an ant and goldilocks wouldn't have liked the bed, as it was too hard both of us and my back is now in agony.
.
The feature of the hotel is without doubt its location, with stunnng views. Only anoying thing is that if in a first floor room you have to go downstairs and up again to access bistro and bar if the conference rooms in use.
A hotel with an amazing view on the evening i arrived, for a business meeting locally, however the hotel needs updating reminded me of an 80's hotel my parents used to take us to! Such a shame a hotel with this kind of view hasn't had the investment it deserves. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the service in the restaurant was very hit and miss... a taxi is required for any other food options.
Disabled lift not very big trouble turning round to get out poor selection of ales plenty of ciders and lagers only one ale that was a pale ale other wise hotel highly recommended
I've stayed here quite a few time now always exilent service ,cleanliness introduced two friends to the hights this visit and they loved it
A lovely friendly hotel with great views. The staff were all very helpful nothing was too much trouble. Clean and welcoming with comfortable bed. A great base to explore Portland and surrounding area
The hotel needs a serious update in the halls and passageways. There was a slight damp smell. Foyer and restaurant good. Non of the bedrooms have phones (have been removed). If you don’t have a mobile (as per my 89 year old brother) he felt alone. I spoke to the Mngr about this as there are no phones in the hall for an emergency. He said it wasn’t a legal requirement! Really . What if someone was taken ill and needed help? Some rooms have a great panoramic view of Chesil Beach. My room at the back had a 50 foot aerial outside, but charged at the same price as the room with a view. Very disappointed overall.
This was a great place to stay to look around Portland. Easy bus access, beautiful walks. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was brilliant. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. The hotel was a little tired in terms of decor in the bedroom, but it was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was silent and dark all night, so offered an excellent 2 nights sleep. Will stay again.
Check in was painfully slow. Restaurant was fully booked so had to order room service. Hotel is old and tired. Breakfast options were very limited.
Great view from the restaurant bar area, rooms where clean and everything worked Breakfast was okay and plentiful Staff were great . Would return
very clean amazing staff and a wonderful location
