Beautiful property. But needs a bit of updating.
Our balcony was missing deck board. Screen door was damaged and hard to operate
Outdoor activities
The restaurant was reasonable and the burger was wonderful ! Serving staff were great !
Our patio door would not close properly and the bathroom wasn't very clean ! At the price of the room....I'd expect better.
The outside docks and water life
The size of room and outside wear of building
Dear Booking.com Customer Support, I am writing to formally complain about an unacceptable experience during my recent hotel stay booked through Booking.com. On the first night, when I went to bed, I discovered that my side of the mattress was wet. At first, I assumed someone had accidentally spilled water, but after checking more carefully, it appeared to be urine. To make matters worse, there was no mattress protector on the bed. I immediately contacted the front desk, and a staff member came to my room. Unfortunately, instead of replacing the mattress or moving us to another room, they simply placed a few extra sheets over the mattress. This did not resolve the issue, and I felt extremely uncomfortable sleeping on the bed. As a result, I barely slept that night, and what should have been a relaxing stay turned into a very unpleasant experience. I chose this property expecting basic standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Discovering what appeared to be bodily fluids on the mattress was both distressing and unacceptable. Given the circumstances and the significant impact this had on my stay, I respectfully request a refund for the first night’s accommodation, or another appropriate form of compensation. I would appreciate it if you could investigate this matter and let me know how you intend to resolve this complaint. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your prompt response. Kind regards,
Twas satisfying
Not all facilities were available ie swimming pool.
The property and spaces are beautiful the staff were great
Housekeeping needed a little encouragement
Staff were very nice and helpful when borrowing equipment. Restaurant staff were great. Very friendly. Room was spacious.
No housekeeping unless specifically requested. Landscaping and beach need attention. Better upkeep of the exterior would improve general impression.
Good restaurant and spa
Property is old so some things are not maintained like hot tub
Very clean place with exceptional food, especially the breakfast. The staff are kind and friendly, and Ben was especially hospitable and welcoming. Highly recommend!
I loved the huge bathroom and jet tub .very reekaxing room
We found a broken glass on the floor by the windows..not happy about that
Amazing place, great service and facilities.
Location
Small rooms/toilet and average clean
Cleaniness is questionable because we checked in with an old cheetos on the carpet and the room smelled like sewage a little due to humidity, that said, staffs were friendly and they sent a maintenance crew to vaccum the carpet.
We didnt use spa services...pet friendly...
The entire property could have used a thorough cleaning, especially hallway carpets and behind/under furniture in the room we had. Charming shabby chique ambiance but tending a little more towards the shabby than the chique. However, the lakeside setting was absolutely SPECTACULAR! The staff was friendly and accommodating. Despite the charming English Country vibe the bar with a stunning sunset view played redneck American country music. Not at all in keeping with the clientele.
Our recent visit was disappointing due to a significant delay in service, only to us. We waited 30 minutes for a server after being seated, while tables around us received immediate attention. If it place was busy its understandable but it wasnt. This disparity in service felt like an act of purposeful neglect and a failure to provide inclusive service to all.
I liked the whole setting, even the weather cooperated.
Locations, staff and the fact that we were able to check in early upon arrival.
No complimentary breakfast upon our departure day, room looked like it wasn’t vacuumed, dust and hair on the toilet bowl cover.
Amenities were not kept up with Had to ask for fire pit and sauna to be started and had wait 1 hour for warmth. Mattresses were not put out and jacuzzi was broken and cold. Those are the amenities that meant the most when booking here and why we chose Christie’s. It was our honeymoon
This resort did not meet our expectations. We had a ground floor with a patio. The location was excellent and the room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. However the chairs were placed awkwardly right in front of the door to the patio. There was no bedside table on one side even though there was lots of room for one. There was inadequate lighting in the room- only one ceiling light and one small lamp. It was impossible to read after dark. The TV did not work but we were awakened at 2 AM by a bright flashing light on the cable box. The pool was open but rather chilly and the hot tub was not working. We still had to pay the full resort fee even though none of the activities were operational at this time of year. The food was excellent and the waitresses ( Allison and Cathy) were too! So all in all, not quite what we expected for the price. More attention to detail is required.
The staff were amazing
We had such a nice, relaxing time. There's so much to do at Christie's Mill! We went kayaking, played board games, relaxed on the beach.... It's such a beautiful place! I absolutely love that it's a smoke free property! Only thing I'd love to see would be more gluten free and vegetarian friendly options at the restaurant.
Good location
Very tired hotel. Not the cleanest.
I was greeted by a very helpful and kind staff member upon check in. The facility sits on a lovely property. The rooms were clean but a bit dated. There were stairs and no elevator. The restaurant was large and I had a decent meal.
Not like before, but now owned by best western and it is a mediocre restaurant not what was once great
Lots to do in the area!
Beautiful, clean, and very welcoming! The staff were so friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and it’s wonderfully pet-friendly. Perfect spot for a Muskoka getaway — can’t wait to come back!
The lobbey was nice and staff extremely friendly, we also enjoyed the lake view from our room.
The room looked like it had not been cleaned recently, cobwebs in corners of the room, stains in the toilet bowl, tons of dust underneath the bed.
Great location. Nice and quiet. Will definitely go back!
A nice getaway. I was kinda expecting more though. The view was great and the staff was awesome , but the hotel is getting old and tired. Maybe a power wash and fresh paint?
The staff and the location.
Food was poor, there was a Keurig machine and no coffee pods in the morning and there was coffee in a carafe that was cold and didn't taste good and they didn't have any kind of cream it was only Coffee-Mate. The breakfast that I ordered two mornings was not what I ordered and there was no adjustment to cost only apologies for not getting what I ordered. The dinner was really poorly cooked and the service was slow and spotty. We went off site to eat after the first night in the restaurant. Television was arduous and had a substandard satellite with no guide..
This place is a hidden gem if you keep some tips in mind. 1) When booking, ask for the newer section. We were given a room in the old section that looked out onto a roof with an a/c and other unsightly equipment, which we did not expect for our vacation resort. When we asked about changing rooms, the only other available option was overlooking the parking lot for an additional cost per night. We turned it down. 2) bringing a dog does not guarantee you a room with a walk-out patio. Again, ask in advance. 3) the restaurant does not serve lunch, and there is no microwave in the room. We visited a neighbouring resort for lunch which was lovely. 4) bring water shoes. The beach is a light layer of sand on top of rock. When the rock is exposed it can get very slippery and we actually saw somebody slip and fall. They were fine but it was concerning to witness. 5) even though dogs are permitted, they are not allowed in the restaurant unless they are service dogs. 6) The location on the edge of the water is ideal and the area is great for canoeing / kayaking, etc. It was not very busy which allowed for some peaceful times. The service was very kind, friendly, respectful.
Room was not was clean.
I will get over some of the thing's where this place can make an improvement such as housekeeping. The fridge was really dirty. I did call the front desk about it. One of the curtains was ripped. The iron was leaking water, and the exhaust fan in the washroom was making too noise, but front desk was notified about everything because the overall experience at this place was great. I did not mind staying at this place. The place and surrounding area is serene, quiet and beautiful Lakeview with a lot of activities for the kids. They have the pool and spa. A lot could be done and a lot of options for hiking, walking boating, canoeing, and boat paddling. The restaurant also has good food although they might want to add some flavour like salt(again food was cooked to perfection) I ordered Pickerel dish and kids had fish and chips that was so so good and burger… food tastes amazing. all things aside I will still recommend this place and I will def. give thus place another chance.
The location was beautiful and lake access beautiful , easily able to use kayaks, property was beautiful lots of nice seating areas
Check in is 4pm and then checkout is 11am and they ask you to leave the property at that time. The resort was completely empty and said that we couldn’t spend the day there for taking the sand. Seemed like a big waste to have such a beautiful location and not able to use the facilities Breakfast was not good, much too expensive for the food quality Room was lake view not left something to be desired as it really faced onto an outdoor patio
location
our room did not have a patio door to a deck like others did. our window opened onto a shared deck where people liked to congregate. We had no privacy if the blinds were open and our view of the lake was obstructed by the shared deck area.
Great area around hotel, awesome lake.
DO NOt STAY HERE .This was by far the most disappointing hotel experience I have ever had. We showed up at the hotel excited although concerned when we pulled up and they had ripped curtains in some of the main rooms of what looked to be the better side of the hotel. We checked in and paid for our room by the most amazing young ladies. We went to our room to find a tiny room that smelled like bleach so strong our eyes burned.,which was strange as there was still dust everywhere including the glasses and bed. We had to open the windows to be able to breathe. . I went to ask about another room and was offered an upgrade at a higher cost. Ultimately we lost confidence when we were offered the ripped curtin side. We decided not to stay and drive back 3.5hrs home instead. We asked for a refund and because booked through Expedia were told to contact them. I did and was told they had to contact the property. They did and It was agreed upon for a full refund. They later changed thier mind at the property and declined it. Beyond frustrated..
The proximity to the water .
They need to dredge the beach way too much algae to swim.
Quaint antique furniture, clean buildings, nice waterfront with boating options. Good restaurant onsite, with others nearby.
Pool was foggy and extremely cold . Hot tub would have been preferred not soaker tub . Restaurant service was disappointing on Tuesday evening as we had friends joining us for future booking .
Fantastic staff. If you needed anything, someone was right there with it. Rooms were clean, fluffy robes, beach towels, all water crafts always ready. Planned on one night, then two and wanted more. Wi fi was great. Definitely a do again.
breakfast ok. assigned room a/c not working - staff arranged better room
assigned room should have known a/c not working before arrival
We had an amazing time staying here. The room was very clean, staff was nice, and so many activities available! The only thing we didn't like was the pool and the pool staff. When we checked in, we were told that the pool was available. So we changed our outfits and headed to the pool. It was dark with no lights, and the staff started cleaning the pool after seeing us. Then after some of us started hanging out in the pool, they told us "Oh, we're cleaning the pool, you can come back in 30 mins". Our bodies were already wet but fine, we left the pool and came back after an hour. The pool was still closed, and they said they'll need another hour to clean the pool. I showed my dissatisfaction as we were told only to wait 30 mins, however they didn't apologize at all. They only said it was for our safety. After some time the front desk called us and told us that the pool was finally ready. First of all, they should have told us that the pool was under the cleaning process before we started hanging out there. We would have understood and come at a different time. Or the pool maintenance should occur in night or before they open the pool in the morning. I do not understand why they needed to do it AFTER they saw us and started being in the water... or at least they should have apologized to us, their attitude made me unsatisfied. Anyways, that was the only disappointment. All other staff were so kind and nice to us. The hotel was clean and beautiful, good for price.
Being on the water/ kayaks available to use, Beds are comfortable
Check in time 4pm Balcony door locks didn’t work Beach was all weeds past your knees Pool needed updating, not inviting at all.
The area we stayed in needed upkeep (needs TLC) Access to HWY 400 was convinient. Room was some what musty.
Great place to stay on the water. We arrived by boat. Adequate dock space. Only found out at checkout that there was a dockage fee!! Rooms were great. Loved the quiet air conditioning.
Location was perfect the grounds were clean and well maintained Located right at the last lift lock ( #45) on the Trent/ Severn waterway
Love this place!! It is our second time back Beautiful property But!!! Our room should be made into a storage closet. And if you don't like toilet paper that is made out of newspaper (bring your own) Also!!! The hot tub is still not working (Jets) Other than that, the property makes up for it all We will be back, I now know to call ahead and make sure I never get room 207 ever again.
We enjoyed being able to use the kayaks for free. The room was a little run down, but that didn’t interfere with our stay.
Lovely spot to spend a night while travelling through. Dinner was good. Wine selection wasn’t what I was hoping for though. Again this was a drop off kids at camp night so we weren’t looking for “the experience”. Be back soon!
Really great view, nice restaurant service, cozy beach and option to canoe around the lake, just a really nice chilled vibe.
Room was large, clean but a bit too basic in style, could do with more of a cottage look.
Great spot on the water! Beautiful views, good restaurant, the rooms are comfortable.
This is a fantastic location, close to bars restaurants and town. Swimming is good, fire pit a great place to meet people. The grounds on the other hand, not very clean, carpets old and have an Oder, place needs more maintenance and painting. Our patio door was very difficult to operate, screen door damaged, would not close. The staff helped make up the short falls, very good.
So relaxing by the water. The restaurant is 5star quality!!
It way a good holiday. I wish the parking and pool and use of stuff would have been included instead of having to pay extra for it.
The property is beautiful. The standard rooms unfortunately our paper thin, which means you can hear everything from the other rooms around you even the snoring of the other people in the next room around you. The hot tub jets are broken. They don’t do every day cleaning of the rooms. This is kind of annoying because when you’re on holiday, you don’t wanna have to do your own pet or clean your own room. That’s why you’re going on holiday. They also don’t leave enough towels when there’s more than one person in the room. Or enough amenities like shampoo and conditioner. But the beauty of the property is incredible.
Too expensive for dated hotel but amenities like free kayaks and canoes, lawn games, sauna (indoor and outdoor) were nice to have. Breakfast was pretty bad don't eat there.
Didn't have breakfast.
Rooms was comfortable but very dirty along the baseboard and head of the bed.
Run down, dated, low quality meals, misleading
Spent our anniversary at Christie’s Mill (first time we’d ever been) and overall we had a wonderful stay! Our original room was across from the sauna and was super hot but we got our room upgraded and switched within a few hours of our arrival with immense apologies from the staff! We weren’t a huge fan of the dinner menu but loved going to the restaurant for breakfast. Pool definitely could’ve been warmer in my opinion since it is labeled as a “heated indoor pool” and didn’t look the cleanest. But the soaker tub was wonderful, and loved the outdoor sitting area when we finished swimming. Overall the hotel staff and restaurant staff were amazing and super helpful with anything we needed. We enjoyed our getaway and would definitely return.
Room was a bit dated. If staying on the ground floor you can hear everything going on in the unit above. Footsteps from above unit were very loud. Bottom floor units had an unpleasing smell that wouldn't go away. Not sure if the same on the upper floors. Otherwise a one time stay for us.
Nothing
Amazing spot! Nice beach area, quiet, and very dog friendly!
Nice get away, but in near future a lot of Reno will be necessary. Time for a update redo!
Great place for a Family Getaway— Wife loved the spa, my son loved the amenities and the staff and restaurant was great! This was the second time visiting and we will be back for sure
great views
Nothing
First, Our room was full of mosquitos and other insects. Second, the back patio lock was broken and a piece of wood was placed to hold the door locked. Third, pool water had mold growth in it and the water was all dark. I requested to change my room for which the receptionist said that they don’t have any other room available. We checked-out of this property after just 2 hours of check-in. It was my wedding anniversary and we ended up driving back to Toronto. And funny thing is that the hotel still charged us full two nights stay plus the resort fee. For 2 hours it costs us more than $500.
Pros: Staff is very friendly and accommodating for requests. The amenities are great. Cons: There are dogs behind the checkin counter and there is a strong dog smell in the lobby. The room had bugs and spider webs in it. The room had not been cleaned properly as food dropped by the last guests was still on the carpet when we checked in. The shower head is average and not what we would expect for the price.
Great location and views.
We would love it if you offered more discounts for frequent visitors like us
Good and nice resort
Christie's Mill Inn and Spa was the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend. We swam in the lake (small private beach with chairs and shade); we used the indoor pool (which was clean and spacious) and the amazing outdoor areas for relaxing (from couches to beds to Muskoka chairs, all over the property facing the water). We had dinner in the restaurant and it was lovely, also used the spa where everyone was nice and the place was clean. No need to go anywhere at all during the weekend. It was relaxing and we left happy and well rested! Would recommend and will most definitely come back!

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
5.8/10Mixed but concerning: one guest reported what appeared to be urine on the mattress and staff response was inadequate; other guests praised overall cleanliness but there were isolated issues (broken glass, inconsistent housekeeping).
Service
8.8/10Generally strong: multiple mentions of very kind, helpful and hospitable staff (including restaurant staff and a staff member named Ben). One serious service failure occurred when the front desk handled a mattress hygiene issue poorly, but most reviews praise staff friendliness and helpfulness.
Location
8/10Positive for setting: beautiful lake, docks and water activities are highlights; some reviewers noted landscaping and exterior upkeep/beach need attention which lowers the score slightly.
Room Quality
7/10Mixed: several guests praised spacious rooms, large bathrooms and a jet tub, but others noted small room size, a wet/soiled mattress incident and a broken glass on the floor—overall average room quality with notable negatives.
Amenities
7.6/10Good offerings: restaurant, spa and jet tub are positives; however some facilities were unavailable (pool) and maintenance issues reported (hot tub not maintained), so amenities are uneven.
Value for Money
7.7/10Standard quality for this hotel tier.
Food and Beverage
8.5/10Strong: multiple mentions of exceptional food, especially breakfast, and good restaurant service; restaurant staff received positive calls-out.
Overall Experience
8.2/10Generally positive stays with great staff, good food and attractive grounds, but serious cleanliness and maintenance issues (notably the mattress incident and exterior wear) tempered some guests' experiences.
