We spent part of our honeymoon at Hunters Country House in mid-August and had such a wonderful experience. The property itself is absolutely beautiful, but what really made our stay special was the incredibly friendly and attentive staff. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome and our honeymoon was acknowledged in such a warm and thoughtful way. We were delighted to receive a lovely room upgrade as well as some beautiful little surprises waiting for us in the room. The service throughout our stay was truly exceptional – very personal, attentive and genuinely warm. It was a very special experience and a wonderful part of our honeymoon. We would absolutely recommend Hunters Country House and would love to return one day.

Liked staff members, like Caroline’s sunny personality, and Khanyo’s enthusiasm. Breakfast was great. However it was a very cold rainy day and the checkin reception was freezing On days like this, the area should be heated. Loved having a fireplace, but the smoke wasn’t pulling out of the chimney and thus smoked out the room. I ended up coughing and having very burny eyes. Otherwise gets a 10

Beautiful gardens. Lovely birthday greeting left in the room with a bottle of bubbly. Little details that make a big difference. Great to have the Zinzi restaurant close by and not having to drive anywhere. Zinzi was of a surprisingly high standard for a country restaurant.

First and foremost, the service at Hunter's Country House is truly unparalleled. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, proactively offering help and personalizing our stay to our needs—it felt like every staff member knew who we were! We loved the thoughtful touches, from the warm notes and sweets waiting in our immaculately clean room to finding our rental car washed with a bag of water and road snacks ready for us at checkout.  The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, and the estate grounds are stunning (we even spotted deer and baboons wandering around). Dining was another highlight; the included breakfast was generous with a large selection, and our dinners at Sage and Zinzi were delicious, offering a great wine selection and excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

Het was een geweldige plek waar je helemaal tot rust kunt komen. Een prachtige verblijf met keuze uit heerlijke restaurants. Het ontbijt lijkt eerder op een high tea,het is echt een feestje om hier te mogen zijn. Er zijn overal mooie plekjes gecreëerd om heerlijk te lezen, te genieten van alles. Vuurtjes worden aangemaakt. Deze mensen die hier werken zijn allemaal ontzettend vriendelijk en kundig.

Don't book this hotel. We had several rooms booked over the Christmas holidays, but my father passed away unexpectedly and I immediately canceled the booking 35 days before arrival. Their holiday season cancellation window is 45d. I asked them, given the circumstances, to refund my $9,000 deposit, or work something else out with me. They refused. I even sent them a copy of the death certificate. Still they refused. They declined to answer my subsequent question as to whether they had re-rented the rooms. Greed in the face of a family's tragedy is just unforgiveable.

Alleen maar lof: van hartelijk ontvangst, tot welkomsdrankje, prachtig domein, prachtige kamer, service die ongezien is.... Dit was het beste hotel tijdens onze vakantie (5 hotels gedaan) en wij komen ABSOLUUT terug! Iedere avond werd onze haard aangemaakt, iedere avond kregen wij een koekje, snoepje,... naast het bed, er was een welkomsfles voorzien en tijdens een koude avond kregen wij zelfs een warmwaterkruik in bed, ... wat een absolute verwennerij! Er werd ook aan alles gedacht: een grote lamp in de kamer om 's avonds op het domein rond te lopen, muggenspray in de kamer en reservaties in de restaurants die al gemaakt werden. Dit hotel en de service overtroffen onze verwachtingen, zeker voor de prijs die we betaald hebben!!!

The staff was amazing, we made it here during a great storm & weather warning and the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable right away. We only noticed, how bad the situation was, when we left again, saw all the fallen trees and heard from other hotels that they didn't have power for three days. Meanwhile we blissfully enjoyed Hunter's Country House, so thank you!

Simply awesome. Impeccable.attention 2 detail goes unparalleled I cannot fault anything. Staff were brilliant.

اعتمدت في حجزي على التقييمات العالية والصور، لكن الواقع كان مختلفًا تمامًا. توقعت منتجعًا فاخرًا متكامل الخدمات، بينما المكان أقرب لنُزل منعزل داخل غابة، عبارة عن أكواخ بأثاث كلاسيكي قديم ومتهالك نسبيًا، والمظهر لا يشبه الصور. الفطور محدود جدًا خاصة للمسلمين، والمطاعم لا تستقبل حجز بعد الساعة 8 مساءً . وصلنا الساعة 8:30 مساءً بعد رحلة طويلة (6 ساعات) ولم نتمكن من تناول العشاء، واقتصر الخيار على خدمة الغرف. لا توجد أي أنشطة بعد المغرب، والأجواء ليلًا مظلمة ومخيفة خصوصًا مع الطقس السيئ؛ عشنا عاصفة قوية ولم نستطع النوم بسبب صوت الرياح والمطر. قد يكون توقيت زيارتنا (نهاية أبريل) سببًا إضافيًا، حيث شعرنا أحيانًا أننا النزلاء الوحيدون. كما أن الحشرات منتشرة، وقد لا يناسب المكان من يخاف منها. المكان مناسب لمن يبحث عن العزلة والهدوء والبساطة، لكنه لم يناسبني. أنصح بالاكتفاء بليلتين كحد أقصى والاستمتاع به نهارًا. حجزنا كان 5 ليالٍ وغادرنا بعد 3.وهذه اول مره اخرج من فندق قبل انتهاء المده بالرغم من سفري الكثير الإيجابية: الموظفون لطفاء ومتعاونون جدًا واستجابوا لطلب تغيير الغرفة. شكر خاص للسيد باتريك على تعاونه. بشكل عام، لم تكن تجربة موفقة بالنسبة لي ‏I based my booking on the high ratings and photos, but the reality was completely different. I expected a luxurious, full-service resort, but the place felt more like a secluded lodge in the forest, consisting of cabins with old, somewhat worn classic furniture. The overall appearance did not match the photos. ‏Breakfast options were very limited, especially for Muslims, and the restaurants do not accept bookings after 8 PM. We arrived at 8:30 PM after a long 6-hour journey and were unable to have dinner, with room service being the only option. ‏There are no activities after sunset, and the atmosphere at night is very dark and unsettling, especially during bad weather. We experienced a strong storm and couldn’t sleep due to the noise of wind and rain. The timing of our visit (late April) may have been an additional factor, as we sometimes felt like we were the only guests at the hotel. In addition, insects are everywhere, which may not suit those who are afraid of them. ‏The place may suit those who are looking for isolation, quietness, and simplicity, but it did not suit me. I would recommend staying no more than two nights and enjoying it during the day. We booked 5 nights but checked out after 3—this is the first time I have ever left a hotel before the end of my stay despite my frequent travels. ‏On the positive side, the staff were very kind and helpful and responded to our request to change the room. Special thanks to Mr. Patrick for his support. ‏Overall, it was not a good experience for me.

Hunter’s Country House was one of the most beautiful hotel experiences I have ever had in my life. It was a complete experience in every way, in terms of service quality, cleanliness, and the professionalism and kindness of the staff. The hotel and the cottage also feature very beautiful views that create a sense of comfort and relaxation, and the surrounding area is absolutely wonderful and adds even more to the charm of the stay. A truly exceptional experience in every sense of the word, and I highly recommend it.

We love Hunters Country House but this is the first time I’ve noticed a few cracks in the veneer.. some of the furniture is tired and needs replacing or a facelift. I only point this out as if they are going to charge the rates they do they can’t have old worn sofas in the rooms and have the paint peeling from all their dining chairs in the breakfast room. Just little things that need to stay at a certain level to maintain the level of luxury if they want to charge the current daily rates.

Hunters Country Lodge ist einfach traumhaft. Die Lage ist perfekt gelegen um Aktivitäten in Plettenberg Bay zu unternehmen. Robberg Nature Reserve ist nur 15 min mit dem Auto entfernt! Die Ruhe vor Ort ist einfach perfekt und wir haben super geschlafen. Die Badezimmer sind ein Traum und auf Wunsch wird einem nachts der Kamin eingeheizt. Wir waren im Sage und Zinzi im Hotel essen. Etwas vorne war das Sage geschmacklich, aber beide Restaurants definitiv zu empfehlen, wenn man abends nicht mehr fahren möchte. Das Personal ist super zuvorkommend! Wir haben uns ab Sekunde eins richtig wohl gefühlt! Es war die beste Unterkunft auf unserer 14 tägigen Südafrika Reise und wir wollen definitiv wieder kommen!

We had a fabulously relaxing stay at Hunter's, passing through on our journey along the Garden Route. We dined at both Zinzi's and Tsala and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

The locations is beyond amazing. It feels like a boutique hotel, since the service is impeccable. Everything was outstanding

Beautiful hotel. Really lovely check in and furnishings are tasteful and thoughtfully considered. The hotel suites were very comfy and tastefully furnished. The gym was well thought out and maintained,

This is really nit- picking but The suite we were in had a strange smell which I think is the smell of the thatched roof in the sun. It didn’t bother us at all and you get used to it but I imagine it would bother some.

Just perfect

Ideally located for Plettenberg Bay & Knysna. Set in magnificent grounds which are very well maintained, you might see a Pushback or two as well. Peace & tranquility abound here, our room no:31 was just perfect & really comfortable. We ate at each of the three restaurants, Zinzi was our favourite, followed closely by Tsala. We cannot speak highly enough of this place, the staff are so happy & super friendly, attentive without being fussy. Thank you Hunters.

Loved the location of the estate itself, and the ability to enjoy three different restaurants on the property. We loved walking the grounds and felt super relaxed and peaceful throughout our stay. The staff were amazing, attentive and made us feel right at home. The room was fabulous, and we appreciated the lovely touches to celebrate our honeymoon which made it all the more special. Close to main town Plett for any daily ventures.

Property is incredibly spacious, with well set up amenities and facilities. Team were friendly and welcoming. All areas were neat and clean.

The most charming country house sat in elegant manicured gardens. Rooms were amazing as were the staff.

Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt nicht. Luxuriöses Ambiente aber die Suite war nicht tragbar. Alte Möbel nicht zeitgemäss.

Zimmer mt uraltem Mobiliar überladen. Kaum Platz um sich zu bewegen. Unangenehmer Geruch durch das offene Cheminee. Badzimmer ok aber entspricht in keiner Weise den heutigen Anforderungen.

Top quality hotel. Breakfast in the conservatory. Drinks in the summer house. Zinzi and Tsala restaurants both excellent. ALL staff members were friendly and helpful. We even had a mother bushbuck and her baby in the garden of our cottage.

Grounds looked nice and welcome drink appreciated

No centre to the complex with a bar for pre and post dinner drinks. No complex map in room. Only one chair in room which is poor for the room price. Took 10 minutes to get credit card machine to work at checkout

We really enjoyed our three night stay at Hunter’s Country House. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The grounds are extensive and extremely well maintained. We ate once in each of the three restaurants on site and the food was superb as were the breakfasts each morning. We stayed in a terrace room. Whilst the bed was very comfy the room was sparsely furnished to the extent there wasn’t even a seat to sit on or a luggage rack. The complimentary bottle of wine in the room on arrival was a lovely touch but a seat to sit on would have been preferable.

Where to start?! We had the pleasure of staying at Hunter's Country House for four nights following my son's wedding in Cape Town. We had been looking forward to our stay for a long time as it was also our belated honeymoon and it didn't disappoint in any way. First impressions were of a very beautiful and wonderfully maintained property. The drive up through the stunning grounds was memorable. We were warmly greeted by the Manager, Travis and shown around. We were delighted to be upgraded to Crowberry, which was a beautiful cottage suite in an even more private part of the grounds. It was elegantly decorated and well equipped, we loved the fact there were anti-baboon guards on the windows! The bed was very comfortable with quality bedding and we loved the little notes and chocolates each evening. We found the location to be perfect in order to visit Plettenburg and the many attractions nearby. We ate at Sage restaurant which served beautiful food and wine, although it was quiet. The following evening we had pre-booked the restaurant at Tsala, Travis advised us that there were no other bookings that night and asked if we would be happy to have a private dinner! Wow, what a meal...We were truly spoiled and enjoyed watching the sunset over the treetops and we had the most beautiful meal and personal service, it was a very special and memorable evening. The next evening we went to Zinzi, the final restaurant choice available, and that's when we had a problem. The service was exceptionally slow, we both ordered ribeye steaks, one of which was totally inedible, just fat and gristle. We complained and a replacement was returned very quickly...too quickly, as it had not been rested it was utterly tasteless. We sent that back also and although the staff apologised it really wasn't a good experience. At this point we must advise that Zinzi is run completely independently of Hunter's Country House, so imagine our amazement that when we updated the hotel about our very disappointing meal, they would not accept payment for our final diner at Sage restaurant! They really did not need to do that but wouldn't take no for an answer. This hotel is wonderfully managed by Travis, he is so helpful and professional, as are all the staff we encountered, from the lovely man on the gates to the gardeners and all the waiting staff, especially Caroline, who was such a character! The staff are such an asset and really want you to enjoy everything, which shines through with the service they provide. We had such a beautiful trip to South Africa and Hunter's Country Hotel was definitely a highlight, it was a real pleasure and we would return in a heartbeat.

We come here every year and feel like home. Great ambiance and great service ! Highly recommended as a hideaway.

Spacious cottage rooms, excellent choice of 3 restaurants on site serving the best food in the area. Beautifully appointed main house. The manager could not be more helpful and he runs a great staff. Difficult access road, must have a car as you will be travelling either to Plettenberg or Knysna. Highly recommend the walk on Robberg Peninsula.

Truly exceptional attention to detail and service. There are very few properties able to deliver such a personal service always looking for ways to enhance the comfort and experience of guests. The gym with beautiful view, dinner options and fire place in the room are my favorite added benefits of this property.

Absolutely nothing.

This was our return visit to Hunters, which is a beautiful place to spend the last days of a wonderful trip to South Africa. The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, and the grounds are well manicured. The food at breakfast and dinner was very fresh, plentiful, and delicious. Travis, the manager, is very friendly, helpful and professional, who is supported by an equally amazing staff. Everything runs smoothly, nothing is too much trouble and you are made to feel truly looked after. We are now looking forward to our next visit in March, relaxing and enjoying being pampered before our long trip back home to the UK.

Amazing estate in the middle of the nature. Service is excellent and the staff goes above and beyond to support. Garden and pool area are stunning, and restaurants are also high quality. We had a fantastic stay at Hunters Lodge and couldn’t fault a thing. The service was top notch, breakfast really tasty and lots of choice and the accommodation was incredible. The Manager, Travis was brilliant and really helpful, knowledgable and friendly. We would definitely stay again!

Loved the old world charm surrounded by the lush gardens. The gardens with the baboons, birds and buck were lovely and felt like a true relaxing sanctuary.

The cold swimming pool. Maybe a heated pool will be better.

Beautiful property and gardens. Three lovely restaurants and excellent staff.

An amazing experience, we were only there for two nights and how I wished it could be longer. The rooms are in lovely cottages in the grounds which are secure and very extensive and beautiful and the staff are friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast was fab too and served in the large conservatory, we also had a dinner in the Zinzi restaurant which is also within the estate and that was excellent too. If I am ever in South Africa again, I will definitely revisit Hunters Country House.

Peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting. So close to Nature. All in a modern customer focused way. Staff professional, efficient and friendly. Great on site restaurants. Ticks all the boxes for relaxation and rejuvenation.

What was not to like. Nothing. Impossible to think of anything.
