Staff really friendly and welcoming. A nice, small, community pub hotel in a quiet village a few miles south of the wall - much better choice than the places crowded with walkers and tour parties. Homemade food excellent, rooms modern and have had money and care spent on fitting them out well. I loved the fact it was next to the old pottery. The bypass means the village is very peaceful.

Bedroom quite small, the mattress was past its best

Thoroughly recommend. They kindly ferried me to and from the path. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Roast was huge, and excellent quality. Bedroom very comfortable and had a very relaxing stay. The only place on the path so far that’s been thoughtful and kind enough to take my transit bag to my room instead of me picking it up from somewhere! Thank you Ian, Katie, and Debbie and everyone else whose names I didn’t get to know.

Das Hotel bietet auch Abendessen mit mehreren Gerichten zur Auswahl, die wir auch sehr gut fanden. Das alles genießt man in einer freundlichen Pub-Atmosphäre deren Charme auch darin besteht, dass auch die Dorfbewohner offensichtlich gerne hierher kommen, um Fußballspiele anzuschauen, Billard oder Darts zu spielen. Der Kontakt zu den Wirtsleuten ist sehr angenehm, freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir haben den Aufenthalt genutzt, um Ausflüge zum Hadrianswall zu machen. Der Fußweg zum römischen Kastell Vindolanda führt direkt vom Hotel durch ein schönes Tal und ist unbedingt zu empfehlen ebenso wie der Besuch im zugehörigen Museum. Man erreicht den Hadrianswall ebenso direkt vom Hotel aus in weniger als einer Stunde und kann in ca. weiteren 1-2 Stunden die spektakulärsten Teile des gesamten Hadrianswalls (Steel Rigg, Sycamore Gap und The Sill) erwandern. Weitere schöne Spaziergänge direkt vom Hotel weg am South Tyne entlang und auf der gegenüberliegenden Talseite. Gerne wieder! Vielen Dank an das Team von The Bowes Hotel!

Absolutely top drawer.. could not fault the stay in any way. Large contemporary room with every facility. Breakfast was plentiful, cooked to order and of the highest standard. I only wish I was closer so I could visit more often.

This hotel is ideally located for exploring local attractions. Rail station to Carlisle or Newcastle is only 10minutes walk from the hotel. Food at the hotel was really good quality with large portions . Our room was excellent with large telly and on suite shower room. Staff were all friendly and likeable.

We were greeted upon arrival at the Bowes Hotel by a lovely young lady accepting our booking discussing meal times,room and breakfast for the Saturday morning....the reason I booked the Bowes was because I saw a blog feedback somewhere about how great the breakfast was....they definitely were not wrong it was sensational...evening meal upon our return was equally nice Andrea had Fish& Chips... Chicken for myself very nice...overall recommend this place if you are in the Vindolanda/ Hadrians wall area....well done to all Andrea and Jeff

Lovely new bathroom with additional toiletries, make-up pads, etc. Bedding and bedroom decor are all fresh and inviting.

My mattress was extremely soft (Station room, bed nearest the window). It would also help to have a fold-out luggage stool.

Loved the room, really comfortable bed and bathroom had everything needed, including a good shower. Really loved the thoughtful touches and generosity with the tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Evening meal and breakfast both delicious.

The employees where very helpful and serviceminded. I would stay here again, no doubt about it. We were a bit late for dinner as we walked the wall, they picked us up so we could enjoy a very delicious Sundayroast. The room was good size and very cozy. We liked the staff and the welcome we received. The room was to a high standard and everything worked. The food served at the hotel was excellent and portions were ample. The hotel is located within easy reach of Hadrians wall,so is ideal for walkers and visitors. The hotel was quiet at night ,so we got a good nights sleep.

The best things about the Bowes Hotel are its location to Hadrian's Wall and the Roman ruins, being out in the country where you can take quiet walks and the friendly, helpful staff. They are genuinely nice instead of clearly being paid to be professionally nice.

A delightful place to stay for a holiday in the area, a great location with so many interesting places to explore nearby and a warm welcome and good supper at the pub. Exceptionally nice staff too, thank you for a great break.

We lopen het Hadrian Wall pad. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen en hadden een compleet ingerichte kamer met goede bedden en heerlijke warme douche. Zowel het ontbijt als het diner was prima. Het hotel ligt op enige afstand van het hotel maar is makkelijk te overbruggen met een taxi.

There was a mixup with our reservation. through Booking.com. I originally booked 3 nights but requested a change to 2 nights weeks before, but the change never got made. Bowes said it was up to Booking, Booking said it was up to Bowes, with the result that we paid for 3 nights although we only stayed for 2. Before the 3rd night, Booking requested the Bowes manager to authorize a refund of the 3rd night, but they refused. Bowes was technically within their rights, but they could have chosen otherwise.

The curtains let a bit too much light in and our bedroom window could have a low level curtain otherwise you are clearly visible from the road at the front and need to close the curtains to change or relax on the bed.

Breakfast was superb, sturdy start for the day's walk. Rooms were warm, clean, fresh, stylish and quiet with comfy beds. Location was ideal for our trip's purpose. Couldn't believe there was a railway station just few steps away!
