Hôtel du Lys

Double room ($240) was extremely small and grubby. Good location.

Staff

Fabulous medieval hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter - close to everything! Loved my stay!

Nice hotel in an attractive area of Paris.

It has a rustic charm and a stellar location. It may not be luxurious but it was perfect for me and at a very good price.

Great location Breakfast good Front desk had terrible attitudes Cleaning staff great

I enjoyed the location but the staff were not very friendly. The breakfast was perfect

I had a memorable stay here. The staff is wonderful! I speak French but the reception staff also speaks multiple languages including English. The petit-déjeuner was included and was just the ticket to start off the day - a nice light French breakfast but if you want larger fare or outside dining, there are excellent restaurants around the corner. There are also faster food restaurant options within a short walking distance and the staff speak multiple languages - English is typically the fall back language. The Saint-Germain des Pres area is very safe during the day and in the evening. The most dangerous thing I encountered were the tourists on bicycles - look out for them!😬I was there for 4 weeks and I came and went at all times of the day including in the wee hours of the morning and saw nothing concerning. There is also a nice grocery store around the corner and you can get most everything you might want - including fresh baked goods and even a small salad bar. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Seine and Notre-Dame. The Louvre is about 15 minutes and is a beautiful walk along the Seine and you can browse the wares of the bouquinistes on the way!

I really like this hotel because it is centrally located yet very quiet. Is my second time staying here

Good location, near many metros. Clean. Very basic rooms, smallest lift I’ve ever seen, but better than the unsafe stairs. I think it would be fine if it was 1/3 of the price. It is at max a $EUR100 a night room.

Charming building with historical architecture and fixtures intact. Air conditioned room and they have an elevator. Breakfast served daily. Location ideal for me. Metro nearby, safe, walkable neighborhood. Comfortable bed.

Great location, friendly staff.

I spent 3 nights followed later by a single night. The hotel is in an excellent position, near to the Odeon metro and is excellent value for this location. On both occasions the rooms were clean and comfortable if a little basic. The continental breakfast provided sets you up well for the day. The staff are friendly, helpful and obliging. The lift is the narrowest I have experienced, with space for only one person (with a small backpack) and a single piece of luggage. It adds to the charm of the place which is decorated in a late 19th century style. Recommended

Great restaurants and shopping around the hotel.

Lovely hotel, great location very friendly

Great staff. Friendly. Knowledgeable.

Location was great. Walking distance to charming streets with restaurants, convenience stores, Metro, Notre Dame, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Pantheon, etc.. To me it wasn't very clean or comfortable. The fridge didn't work and there was no air conditioning at the time, so it was quite warm in the room during the day and evening. Breakfast was good, there was always a place to sit and the staff kept everything clean and good. Location and breakfast are what kept the stay acceptable.

Nice historical property with included breakfast

Great hotel for the price.

I loved that this was close to the metro and big attractions like Notre Dame. I felt very safe and the croissants at breakfast were delicious.

Great location Not overtly plush but well worth the stay

We loved the atmosphere of "quaint old French hotel" with the amenities of a great shower and good wifi.

Very quaint, rustic hotel in heart of Saint Germain des Pres. Creaky stairs, tiny rustic rooms, clean bathrooms. Excellent breakfast. Old world charm.

The hotel was just okay. Thankfully we were given a bigger room by mistake but they allowed us to continue in the room as probably there wasn't any booking. We thank the owner for letting us continue there.🙏 Pros Near to station and train service. Good choice of Restaurants in walking distance. Cons No view. The actual standard room is very tiny and the elevator feels like you are going in a coffin. No kettle or tea provided in the room. Suggestion Best for 1/2 day stay and I would suggest to go for the bigger room as probably that would be better.

Old school accommodation Small lift no crockery or cutlery no water to the kitchen sink and sink didn't drain But would definitely come back

Except for the location, the hotel has some major issues. I don’t recommend it because the carpet is filthy and clearly not clean. There was used toilet paper left from the previous guest, and the towels are old. Additionally, there were no paper towels in the room, and the overall cleanliness was disappointing. The hotel really needs to be renovated. On a positive note, the staff are friendly.

The location is very good.

Great location. Breakfast included. Basic accommodation.

A hotel with character. Friendly , rooms not large but comfortable.

I was given a room between floors ? Very low ceilings and very small. Very out dated , especially the bathroom and the free breakfast is a Croissant and some cheese selections

Very Small room, lack of guest facilities

Good location

Cute room, excellent location, wonderful service. Tiny elevator so don’t stay here with lots of bulky luggage! Overall, a lovely experience.

Nice place with some nice touches we would definitely stay again.

Great staff and very good breakfast & coffee machine!

Lovely character hotel right in the ideal area of Notre-Dame.

I reserved and paid for the small twin room I had last year. They gave it to someone else and I was forced to stay in a room (in the lobby next to the luggage closet) that evidently no one wanted as it is very noisy in here. Definitely not a rokm anyone would want. I do NOT recommend this hotel any more and will NOT stay here again.

Amazing neighborhood. Hotel is a converted Parisian mansion. This is not an American hotel. Great croissants in the morning, supermarket around the corner and amazing restaurants all around. 2nd time staying here , the first being the 10 years ago and I will still go back. Staff kind.

We loved this hotel. Great location, great room, great breakfast. Loved the charm of old Paris. Would absolutely return.

The hotel location is great and the staff was nice but the rooms need an upgrade and more staff for cleaning

Great breakfast included!!! Everything fresh. My daughters and I enjoyedbiur single nite there fine.

I loved our stay here, charning older building with a tiny elevator that works great! Right in the heart of town. In the morning we had the most wonderful breakfast waiting for us. Deliciois croissants, cheeses, and perfectly hot espresso. We do not speak French yet do needed help from front desk. He was helpful as he could be and not only got breakfast ready but helped my elderly mother wirh the luggage in the taxi. Wonderful stay. Thank you. Kimberly

Wonderful stay! Very clean, pleasant and helpful staff. Staff were all bilingual in English. Breakfast was a great plus. We will return if in Paris again.

Very sweet little property. I really love they tries to hold onto some of the historical elements of the site. Very convenient location for metro and walking with lots restaurants and sight-seeing near by. I will say yhat the room I got was not soundproof, despite being advertised as such. And the room I got was very very small for the nearly $200 I paid.

If you are looking for a chain hotel with every modern amenity, this is not for you. But my wife and I have been coming back for over 30 years for the ambience, comfort, location, romance, and the croissants at breakfast, including this year's trip where we adjusted our time to visit Paris to accommodate being able to book a room here.

Excellent charming accommodation

Excellent location - quick access to two main metro stations (one directly to REF airport was just a block away). Tiny single room but turned out to be all I needed. Ample space in closet although no drawers. Desk attached to wall - two plugs for cell phone with adapter plug, nice shower and big sink area. Bathroom in it's own closet but you can't shut the door when sitting lol but no issue since I was solo. Asian man in lobby (worked front desk some days) - sorry I didn't get his name - was super! He gave me a small glass coffee cup for my instant coffee I brought (Cafe Francais) to have in my room instead of the paper cups with the coffee machine downstairs that was not on at night. He also gave me a bigger ceramic coffee cup at breakfast when he was working (and someone asked me why I got that instead of a little paper coffee cup lol). Would stay here again if I ever return to Paris (for the 9th time).

I loved that is it unique it made me feel like I was living in another decade.

The hotel was recommended to me by a friend, a French friend I had met in the US. This has been my first trip in many years to Paris and the hotel and location were perfect for an inexperienced visitor to the city. As a legally blind person I was able to get around, find the bus to the Louvre, tok Matro all over and enjoyed the cafes and restaurants recommended to me. Thank you. Traudi

Quaint, lovely, quiet, close to so many opportunities but yet tucked away. Lovely, friendly staff

A charming hotel on a quiet side street in the centre of Saint Michel. As an added bonus, it is located on the RER B, so you have a direct Myron connection to CDG Airport, Gare du Nord and Gare Montparnasse (the two main train stations). The rooms are tiny (so is the elevator) but impeccable and full of charm. The 3 persons rooms are great choice for families

Hotel is charming but like most old hotels in Paris, the rooms are small. The location is amazing! Everything within walking distance. The breakfast was a bonus. The younger staff was friendly and helpful, the older staff were indifferent. The wifi and tv we’re unpredictable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Overall, a pleasant hotel.

I liked the location, the character and the very comfortable bed. Location of sockets for charging and lack of bedside lamp wasn't great.

Amazing Historic Building and Location

Close to bars and restaurants. Walking distance to Museum, notes dame. The rooms are clean, bathroom could use some work. But overall a fine and easy stay!

Liked everything.

Older historic property - nothing exceptional. You get what you pay for...

Quirky, medieval hotel central to all of paris.

This was such a little treasure. The design and Architect of this building was beautiful. There was a complimentary breakfast everyday. And it’s within walking distance to Notre Dame! Only small downside is the elevator is the tiniest elevator I’ve ever been In. Had to play janga with my suitcases.

Centrally placed, intriguing 17th century house, quiet street, warm; breakfast a bit cramped on Sunday. Very enjoyable Lift tiny so not for the obese

Stayed for 5 days. Basic hotel in a great location. Close to cafes, restaurants and sites. Walkable to Notre Dame and the Louvre. Will stay again. Great service and nice breakfast.

This is a historic gem, Full of character. The staff was friendly, accommodating and dealt with any issues quickly and efficiently.

This was the sixth time I’ve stayed at the Hotel du Lys, and it is truly an exceptional experience. The staff is helpful and personable. The location could not be better: a block from the St. Michel metro and RER stops, across the street from Notre Dame Cathedral, and a few blocks walk from The Louvre and Tuileries gardens.

Great location and pleasant room for the price. Fixtures are a bit tired but it is a lovely quirky old building. The breakfast was simple but a welcome offering.

Historic building was interesting. Staff was helpful and efficient. Excellent location for tourists.

Unbeatable location Nice staff The hotel is old but has historic touches If I will be back I will stay in this hotel again

People were very unfriendly. The room had 1 plug. The carpet was very dirty the same as the stairs to the room. Never stayed in a place like this before. The location was very good.

I LOVED this little hotel. It is quirky and charming, and the manager was super-nice and helpful. If you are looking for a conventional, modern, chain-style hotel or a luxury property, look elsewhere. If you are drawn to a place with a sense of history and a unique vibe, this is the place for you. Seriously good oil paintings and antique mirrors adorn the walls in the common areas and winding stairwell; vintage wallpaper made my room feel like I was entering another era; and the floor-to-ceiling windows brought sunshine into my room. Furnishing in the rooms is basic but comfortable. The continental breakfast (included in room rates) is simple and delicious: a croissant, fresh baguette and jam, coffee, and orange juice. My room, at the tip-top of the building, was quiet, and accessible via a tiny elevator. It also had air conditioning. The location is absolutely perfect, close to so many cafes, museums, shops, and galleries, and within a short walk to metros and the RER (with easy access to Orly airport). I stayed at this hotel for a week and will definitely return.

No towels change Excelent localization

The fifth floor room was very dirty, albeit charming. Also concerning was the lack of smoke detectors, given the only exit would be the stairs of a 17th century building. The staff was lovely however, as was the building.

Perfect for what i wanted - I.e. a functional base to explore the sights of the city from with my daughter without being too far out. Staff very helpful, rooms very traditional and on the small side, breakfast very basic; but very clean and well air conditioned, no complaints. The location is fabulous and I would definitely stay there again.

nice hotel itself & excellent location. staff are very friendly & facility is adequate. would recommend.

Love the location and the ambiance. Great continental breakfast. Wonderful value.

The Hotel was build in the 17th century so I couldn’t expect much. The shower head didn’t work properly, but the hand held shower head worked, it just made it more difficult to shower. The hair dryer wasn’t working. The air conditioner wasn’t blowing cold air, but still felt better than nothing.

And old Parisian hotel that has been updated and is very nice. Only negative, the elevator is very small (1 person +1bag) , Of course it was added on a couple centuries after it was built. However it was out of order on the day we arrive and I had to carry my bags up for floors. It is right near Notre Dame section of town.

Beautiful hotel and a lovely area. Most definitely close to shops and restaurants. And they speak English

Quaint hotel. Very clean. Breakfast was was great - just enough to get your day started. Coffee and baguette with butter and jam and the best croissants in Paris! Convenient location.

The front facade is from the 1600's. The back portion was built much later. But the current owner's grandparents bought it in 1948 and it was a hotel even then. One can complain about the small lift. But that is to be expected. They did not think about lifts a few centuries back. So one can't have the best of both worlds ... Pure Paris with modern facilities. Especially at this price.

Needs renovation Paint, carpet, flooring old and creepy

The Hôtel du Lys, where my wife and I and son stayed during the past few weeks, is really good. The concierge, Benjamin, was very helpful in helping us choose the easiest way to get to the Paris airport by Metro, going out of his way to walk us much of the way to the metro. The hotel has added a small, but adequate elevator to reach the top floors, the rooms are very clean, and the location is superb for restaurants and metro stops and sites like Notre Dame Cathedral.

We were very impressed with the hotel, the service of the front desk, the breakfast served, the room was very good considering it was in Paris and all bathrooms and rooms are small. Again the service and friendliness were great and the room was larger than anticipated. We had great windows with small terraces with flowers which added comfort. I would stay again and recommend it. AND the location was great; very convenient to everything including restaurants, bus, train, sights, etc.

close to everything, cute interior, delicious breakfast

Quite area but very close to all the fun places. Clean hotel. So much character

Very well located in a quiet street. Walkable distance to the most charming spots of Paris

Very clean. Basic facilities. Nice breakfast . Great location in a nice area.

Great hotel in the center of Paris with the smallest elevator I have ever seen. Great layover.

Great location marred by dreadfully small, basic room that was not represented in any way in the website.

wonderful place by location. bus stop metro rer station and specialy eating place all around. safe location much better than people write in their comment in google.staff was helpfull room clean totoaly satisfied

The staff are lovely and very helpful, however the property is quite run down. Our room had a hole in the ceiling and the shower pole was broken (we fixed it). The lift can barely fit two people without luggage, which more than anything was just laughable. Breakfast was simple, a decaf option would be good. If you want a cheap room near the centre and nothing more, book this place.

There couldn't be any more striking difference between the photographs taken by the hotel and the reality of the room!!! I certainly knew this was a small hotel and that I couldn't ask for a "Palace", but I really wasn't waiting for such a shabby and unclean room! There are cobwebs on the ceiling, the wallpaper is torn up at several places, there is old dirt on the walls, the coating and protections of pipes is also in bad shape, the bed is terrible, etc. I seldom make derogatory comments on any hotel I go to. But on this occasion I really fell scammed - this isn't what I paid for!!! I've been booking through hotels.com for a long time now, and this the first-time I get such a bad surprise. Hotels.com should be more thorough with the information hotels provide them with, because it gives an awful image of the company.

You absolutely cannot beat the location or the helpfulness of the staff. This was our 2nd stay at Hotel du Lys. Cannot wait to go back.

Hotel de Lys is a converted ancient residence, with guest rooms filling every available cranny, a narrow spiral staircase, & an elevator that only fits 1 person + 1 suitcase at a time. Lovely old oak beams, antique furniture & paintings, & a charming decor make up (mostly) for lack of space. Breakfast, served in the dining room & hall, consists of juice, excellent coffee, & real French croissants & baguettes so good they didn't need the fresh butter & mini-pots of confiture that came with them. Plus this hotel is just a couple of blocks from the Odeon & Saint-Michel Metro stops (easy to reach from almost anywhere), & a short walk from the Seine, Notre Dame, & the Musee du Luxembourg, among others. Very helpful staff, too. I would definitely stay here again.

Well situated and charming, with a helpful staff and an elevator!

Very dirty carpet which I've never seen. My hubby was bitten by mites at his bed. The building is old and charming but that's it. Amenities are keeping minimum as much as they can. This hotel does not math its price. Only the location was good.

I highly recommend this hotel. It is a charming building built in 1650. The beamed ceilings , antique furniture in the entrance and touches of antiques in the rooms make this a very charming hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel s very convenient to the Metro and in easy walking distance of Notre Dame, restaurants, and shops. We will stay here again.

Friendly employees...great service with check in and directions.

Beware: the rooms do not all look like those pictured on the listing. We checked in to find our room was like a cell in a monastery, TINY, with barely room to walk around the bed (which was very uncomfortable/hard). Unlike those shown in the listing, our room was austere with very little decor and poor lighting. I think it would maybe be OK for one person if you didn't plan on spending any time in the room...We were told that we "should have booked a superior" if we wanted the one shown in the listing, but that wasn't clear at all when we booked. I saw one of those rooms when a door was open across the hall, looked much nicer (at least bigger/decorated). The front desk clerk was not friendly or helpful (scowling), and would not move us to a different room and would not refund our prepaid reservation. Luckily, we called Hotels.com and arranged for the refund and to move to a different hotel nearby for the next night. FYI the hotel has a retrofitted elevator which would make anyone even slightly claustrophobic panic -- it's barely wide as a man's shoulders, fits one person and suitcases. I recommend taking the stairs! A basic breakfast of coffee or tea w croissants was served in the lobby in the a.m. The neighborhood is good, easy access to metro stations and the Seine.

Hotel was in a very central location. Staff was friendly. The breakfast was a typical French breakfast delish breads and beverages. We were happy staying here with our toddler and would stay again.
