The area was lovely, the hotel was lovely and the staff were kind friendly and were very nice. Loved the room i stayed in and the bed was exceptionally comfy. Definitely going back again in October and I would love to have the same room again only for 3 nights.

The lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful. The bedroom and ensuite were clean. Beer garden to sit out with the dogs.
The whole place looked tired and a bit shabby. Needed some serious TLC. The small double room was really a single with a 3/4 bed in it. The bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom and no, i'm not joking! Very cramped. Ok for one night. Charge per dog was £15 which i thought was a rip off considering the tiny, tired room and the fact that they are no bother.

Nice room and bathroom.goid shower. Lovely big comfy bed
Wifi was rubbish
The location was ok for where we were visiting
Room was small and dirty
The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was extremely good with full english and choice of cereal, juice etc. Although parts of the hotel feel in need of a little tlc it was very comfortable and the bar lounge area were beautiful with lots of antiques and original features which we loved. We would definitely stay here again.
Nothing
Location, in the heart of the town, car park.
Tiny bathroom, the toilet was was very cramped and difficult to use. Windows did not lock. Bathroom light not working, No towels in room. Church bells next door striking EVERY 15 minutes day and NIGHT, which no told us about when we booked. £15 for a below standard breakfast.
The stairs no lift
No bad for nights stay
A grand old building with lots of character. It was in the town so a short walk from shops and places to eat, but felt tucked away. We stayed in a family room which was clean and comfortable. The staff were lovely and couldn't have been more attentive. It had a very homely atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent. We had a wonderful stay.
It was a shame that they are no longer able to provide evening meals, but we managed to find a pub in town which was a walk away.
The room was clean, a lovely size, warm and welcoming with a super large sash window, comfortable armchair, large wardrobe, desk and great lighting. The en-suite bathroom with a great shower was modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable with crisp, fresh linen which resulted in 2 very sound nights' sleep. Waking in the morning to hear the nearby Church clock was a welcome treat. The cooked breakfasts were delicious and great value for money. Being able to park my car overnight securely was very reassuring. All the staff I spoke with were very welcoming and helpful.
There is nothing I can think of that would have improved my stay. It was just what I was looking for and I would definitely like to return in the future.
Convenient for my event at the racecourse. Newly refurbed bathroom.
Room was clean and comfortable and exceeded my expectations
The noise from the church opposite -the bells are rung every 15 minutes throughout the night!! The carpet on the stairs was very worn and I was concerned I may trip so had to tread very carefully. The door to the ensuite bathroom (room 8) sticks and can't be shut properly

Tired decor
The location was perfect for us. We headed there for Alton towers. So was great distance.
It needs a full refurbishment. I’ve been staying there since I was small but this time it felt old and needed new carpets, and the electric to be looked at in the room.
I booked this hotel for two nights. The hotel's location is convenient, as it is right in the town centre, but unfortunately this was by far one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had.
From the moment we arrived, the receptionist was extremely cold and unwelcoming. There was no warm greeting or sense that guests were genuinely welcome. The rooms were extremely basic and lacked many amenities I would normally expect from a hotel at this price. Apart from the beds, there was virtually nothing in the rooms. There was no fridge, kitchenette or other useful facilities. Even the kettle provided was heavily affected by limescale. I complained and was given a replacement, but unfortunately the replacement was no better and I was unable to use it. The Wi-Fi was also not working. When I reported this at reception, I was simply told that the building was old and there was nothing they could do. Therefore, if you are considering staying here, be aware that you may need to rely entirely on your own mobile data. Another major issue is the lack of staff and support. Reception is only staffed for limited hours, approximately 10am to 6pm. Outside those hours, there appears to be nobody available to assist guests if something goes wrong or assistance is needed. Calls were also not answered when we tried to get help. Noise was another problem. The hotel is on a busy road, and the traffic noise combined with the regular church bells made it difficult to sleep properly. For a family of four staying for two nights, the experience felt very poor value for money. I have travelled extensively and stayed in many different hotels, and unfortunately this ranks among the worst experiences I have had. I would not recommend this hotel for families or longer stays. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Uttoxeter, I would strongly suggest considering other options before booking. Finally, as a family of colour, we also felt that the way we were received and treated was particularly uncomfortable. I cannot say with certainty why we received this treatment, but it was noticeable enough that I feel it is important to mention our experience.
It is in a good location. The room was clean.
Comfortable, clean, well-located for the town centre and railway station.
The quirkyness, it was clean and comfortable, plus perfectly situated for our needs
No
Central location , friendly staff and comfortable.
Extremely hot ( heatwave)
Nothing!
We could not move two large cases up the stairs. So we decided NOT to stay.A waste of our money. We are pensioners, who bneeded to know that there was no lift, and we were booked in high up in the building.
Comforatble room, convienient location very nice
Church bells were very loud..
Clean and quiet room
If the TV was mounted on the wall I could use the table to put things on. The bathroom would be better if it had a shelf and some hooks on the back of the door.
Excellent location Room was quiet and had private en-suite
Disappointing lack of communication/information from staff. Like the room, I felt out of the way and forgotten.
Location and relatively clean. Staff were friendly
Broken window in bathroom. Unable to open any windows in the bedroom on a very hot night so really didn’t sleep well. Finding the room on the night, main room was closed so had to walk around the building which is a bit of maze to try and find our room. No clear signs, just keep wandering around a boiling hotel until we found a route through.
Beautiful building with comfortable bed and Lovely hosts

Fantastic grade 2 listed . Full of character and antique furniture. Paid £20 extra for the 4 poster bed, was like sleeping in the 1777 when it was built. Free parking and in the centre of town . Good drinks prices but didn’t have food,so can’t comment
Nothing it was as expected. You are getting a building full of creaking floors and banging doors. If you want sterile go to premier inn !
Central location close to shops and restaurants Car park
Dirty bath panel No hair dryer No fan for use in hot weather Very uncomfortable chair Building is old but stair carpet should be changed

Location and decor
Nothing really
Breakfast decent but over priced at 15.00
Room was tiny, plaster falling off walls, paintwork very grubby. Bed was about 1.5, barely double, couldn't walk down one side of it as up to wall, had to turn side ways to and shuffle to to get down other side. Basically a broom cupboard for over a hundred quid a night. My Ipad had a bigger screen than the TV. Not worth half of the cost.
Central location
Room not very clean, litter bin not emptied and no soap
Breakfast okay
Poor standard, carpet was thred bare with holes, pat testing dated 8 years ago. Cobwebs and dust everywhere, no heating. Fire doors wedged open. The place is a health and safety concern.. it’s like stepping back in time yet they are changing high rates. No Managment to be seen.
The staff were lovely and helpful Parking is a nice bonus Location is perfect for the racing or to be in town
The bed wasn't great, I didnt like the sheet and covers and the mattress was a little bumpy. and the shower was very basic and not really powerful enough
I arrived before check-in opened and the staff were very friendly and able to let me check in early. The location is very central and it's easy to get around from the hotel.
There was no body wash/shampoo in the bathroom. Also the hotel is reasonably close to a clocktower that rings out every 15 minutes (and doesn't stop at night). This is probably fine if it's not warm enough to need to sleep with the window open.
Confy bed
There was a weird smell downstairs, maybe because the building is old
Parking, easy and accessible Close to alton towers, nearby town, friendly staff
Church clock chiming every half hour till vety late in the night and early Sunday morning
Good location
Property was dirty and shabby with worn carpets and strange smell throughout the building
Not much
The hotel needs a major overhaul, carpets thread bare, and generally run down. Great location but that was it! Needs a lot of work doing! It was more like £20 per person not £50 per person! And to ask for £15 for breakfast is taking the p....
Not much.
Threadbare unclean carpets in public areas, dirty carpet in bedroom, ruined stains down front of toilet in room bathroom, huge step into/out of shower cubicle, unclean shower cubicle, unclean sink. Decent layer of dust over furniture.
Great location for the town centre and the horse racing
Not equipped for a gluten-free breakfast
lovely quaint hotel, great location and pleasant staff
Very helpful owner.
No real complaints, but the bathroom would benefit from a shelf above the sink and a couple more hooks.
A lovely old building that is well maintained and kept really clean. There is a large car park at the rear of the building, would definitely recommend this hotel
I couldn’t find anything not to like about this hotel

Great location , I have a favourite room and I stay here when I’m down . Lovely comfy bed. Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Location, parking and it’s history
Everything beer ambiance staff room facilties
The one issue we had was that the thermostatic radiator valve in our room ( the 4 poster) was broken and the room was too hot
Staff very nice and helpful
Room 17 smelt damp and musty
I liked the period decor
Cannot fault the property
Got there early but the staff were great and we got checked in at 10.30 straight away. Mary was a great help with everything. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with constant assistance of more offerings with breakfast. This hotel is a ideal location for Uttoxeter races I will certainly be returning
free parking & location
Definitely needs a good update on everything. Bed was bad so not much sleep, room was cramped. Bathroom & shower not very good
location only & free parking
I understand it is an old building but there is an awful lot of work needed doing to update is best they could. room is very cramped for 2 people . Bed wasnt comfy & we hardly slept didnt have breakfast as it was a bit pricey in our opinion
The staff was brilliant!!! Room was very nice 👌
I liked everything
The history, the location and the staff.
Everything was amazing
The location is excellent for racing. The staff are lovely and breakfast was really nice.
Beautiful with so much character Would definitely stay there again
Shower head wouldn't stay in place, just showered down the wLl
Rooms clean and well kept daily. Staff are brilliant. Great breakfast. Definitely worth a visit.
Old property with character, good parking. Accommodating staff.
Whilst the building has character, it is very dated. Would need a full refurbishment to get it to a decent standard.
Loved the location and the quirky 250 year old building. So individual. Mary was the perfect host. Room clean, warm and comfortable. Will definitely visit again.
Just take care on the steep stairs of this beautiful old building
Not a lot
The stair carpet is dated and thread bear The room was over crowed with beds and chairs no where to put drinks There was old food under the bed The vibe was local pub for local people
Location and the staff are lovely

Back door lock needs fixing properly. We were sober and couldn’t unlock the door at first. It needs fixing properly!!!
Local to eateries pubs shops and parking with big car park next door (public)
Bathroom needs attention ie shower head not working or not cleaned for ages
it was fine for a one night low cost hotel. free safe parking a strong point
a thermostatic shower
Fabulous atmosphere, so welcoming and cannot wait to book again
There is nothing to dislike about The Royal Bank, even though there was no evening food available, we ordered in an our host was absolutely fabulous, set a table, warmed plates - honestly a great place to stay 👍🏻
Kept well

New stair carpet needed. Bedroom needs painting room 4 Pillows poor. Only 1 bath towel for 2 people No bath mat Only 1 bedside light
The room was very clean. The staff were very friendly polite and helpful. Location was good right by the town.
The only thing I didn’t like there was no evening meals.
There was no breakfast offered on a Monday we were told when we arrived. In room facilities book said breakfast WAS available on bank holidays but it wasn’t true
Tiny little room with high windows they you couldn’t look out of, no mat in bath for shower no home comforts, not even a picture on any wall. I felt like we were in the maids quarters
The breakfast was not very good. The choice of cereal was meagre and there was no fruit. Only choice of yoghurt was fruit no natural yoghurt. Only choice of great was white or brown sliced bread.
Bathroom shower didn't hot enough water. TV very small.
It’s character and charm. Excellent location .
Centrally located
Desperately in need of refurbishment and a good clean.
Nothing was to much trouble for Mary she made us very welcome. We had gone for the races and she otrganisef a taxi to the race course, put on sandwiches at night and cooked a lovely breakfast with a big pot of tea that had plenty of tea in it . Tbe rooms was clean and warm and she checked all the guests were okay continually . Right in the town centre and full of character. Would throughly revcommend. Also plenty of parking .
Great place to stay for Uttoxeter Races, friendly staff and nice homely feel, lovely breakfast on New Year’s Day :-)
The church bells going through the night (might have just been because it was New Year?)

Quirky! It is an old building but felt very comfortable.
Shower needs some improvement… high step in and out, not very strong.
Friendly staff. Onside parking. Good position.
Parking was easy, location fantastic
Threadbare carpets, no shelf in the shower to put toiletries. The curtains were light with no blackout, it was light all night. Could not open curtains as no nets and looked out on to other rooms so had to get ready under the bedroom light, not natural light.. The room was not serviced as they "forgot to come back to do it".
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the hotel is dated but it is a very old building. It was clean and comfortable.
We stayed with family and friends and all had issues with our rooms. One couple had to be moved as the shower flooded the dining room and myself and the other couple we went with had no electricity so couldn't make a drink or have a shower. I have emailed the hotel twice but haven't received a reply at all.
Location ideal. Clean and helpful staff.
