Exelente
I liked the variety of food they served, the pool and the staff, I had couple of problems but they helped me resolve them straight away
It was like 12:30 am we were sleeping and the room next to us burst with loud music and they started trying to open the door that connects the two rooms, I think staff should let people aware of what is the usage of these doors because I think some people don't know
Good
The grounds and setting of this hotel is just gorgeous. As Star Prestige members, we had wonderful interactions with Michell and Cesar. They were very kind and anticipated our needs. Breakfast servers Isobel and Lolita were friendly and caring. The cleaning staff was consistent and went above and beyond! The rest of the Star Prestige staff was very lacking. I took my 82 year old mother. I wanted to limit the requests for assistance for personal support. Twice I reached out for assistance for my mother for a ride and they said yes but never came. The Club did not provide the minimum provided in my contract. I was very disappointed to say the least. When I expressed my disappointment, I was told by Estephanie that I would receive a follow up email. That email never came. I am left disappointed. Go for the beauty, but don't go for the service.
The hotel's room service was NOT GOOD, it has a very limited menu and they do not send any kind of beverage, plus it is not 24-hours. The pools were great but they could have used some ice. The room had a nice view and it was clean. Overall the atmosphere was pleasant, it was nice to relax. Because of where it was located it was quiet. Everyone was very friendly and the price was adequate.
Just got back last Tuesday after a 7 night stay. Our 3rd year there! Enjoyed the beach for 5 days until a storm afar in the ocean changed the tides and washed a lot of it away. A quick walk down the beach and you’d easily find a spot (no chairs or towels unfortunately). Room was updated but the first room they gave us had a huge leak upon opening the door. They quickly moved us. Pros: strong drinks at the beach bar, excellent waitresses, serene/basically private walk 3 miles round trip down the beach to the rocks, Asian night at the buffet. Great coffee shop with pastries, beautiful waves to jump, warm ocean. Breakfast at Mexican restaurant was outstanding. Snacks by the pool are great for midday. Rooms were nice and cool and very clean. No need to get up early to save beach chairs beach workers bust their tails getting chairs and umbrellas up. The sunset….wow! Cons: Reservations should be made upon arrival, buffet line is loooong (go at opening), buffet food gets a little monotonous. If you want to stay at the pool get up and reserve chairs by placing towels on them. Rooms are very damp (bring socks), floor can be slippery and it’s easy for sand to be tracked in and make a mess on floors. Vendors can be pushy but usually recognize you by day 2-3 and leave you alone. Tip: Grab a cheap Uber and head into Sayulita (fun little town but somewhat busy) or San Francisco (also called San Pancho). Our first visit to San Pancho this year. Surfers to watch and more of a traditional Mexico feel a lot less busy. Maybe not a 5 star hotel but darn close!
We stayed at Playa Mita for 4 nights in early July. It was our first time at this resort. Everyone from checking to checkout was incredibly helpful. As Club members, we’ve come to expect this. Rooms are clean but the furniture is a little dated. We could tell this is an older property but it is very well kept. Beach and ocean are beautiful. There is a third party on site by the beach for snorkeling excursions (which we didn’t get a chance to do) and water sport equipment rental. We rented a boogey board for our entire stay for less than $10/day. Buffet food is delicious and authentic at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ate at the Mexican restaurant and the food is phenomenal. Our waiter was hospitable, friendly, and funny. We were told walk ups were available for the other restaurants but it turns out that isn’t the case. Reservations for all the restaurants are highly recommended. The entertainment team does a good job of getting guests involved in some fun every day around noon. There’s a quieter area for club members if that’s more your speed. And the sunset bar is the place to be for a beautiful view of the sunset while having a drink before the evening’s activities. We opted to do the ultimate tequila tasting one evening (while the little one enjoyed a Star Camp pajama party!). Karla, their tequila sommelier, was so knowledgeable, took her time to answer our questions, and was wonderful through the whole experience - huge shout out to her! We were the only ones at the table so it ended up being a private tasting, which just added to an already amazing evening. We couldn’t recommend this experience more! Totally worth doing since you’re visiting the home of tequila and get to try craft varieties that differ from what’s available at home. We ended up buying two bottles, as they are not available in the US. Lastly, we had the opportunity to have a private dinner provided by an in house chef. Belqui cooked us the most amazing 5 course meal. It was by far the best prime rib that’s ever been put in front of us. Every course from the appetizer to the dessert was perfectly plated and absolutely delicious. The wine to accompany was also a hit. Definitely a Michelin-caliber meal. We would like to shout out Belqui and Alejandro for such an amazing experience! We highly recommend visiting Playa Mita. We will definitely be back.
Overall, the hotel itself was clean, and offered many of the amenities expected from a high-end property. However, one guest’s experience highlighted a few customer service shortcomings that should not be overlooked. During the stay, a gift shop employee made an unsolicited comment about the guest’s body. The remark was completely unwarranted and left her feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and self-conscious. No guest should ever be made to feel that way, especially while staying at a hotel that markets itself as providing a premium experience. To add to the frustration, approximately $400 in transportation fees appeared at checkout even though those charges had been prepaid before the trip. While billing errors can happen, situations like this create unnecessary stress and should be prevented through better communication. The guest was still required to pay the difference although they showed proof these fees were included. Until management places a stronger emphasis on professionalism, guest respect, and customer care, it falls short of delivering the five-star experience it aims to provide. There are better opportunities to make your trip memorable. Do not recommend
This is the review I wish I read before spending over 8K on a one week vacation for a family of 3 at Iberostar Playa Mita. Whoever had the audacity to call this a 5 star resort should be fired. The Good: - The staff for the most part were friendly and tried hard, however, there is not enough of them for the number of people at the resort and a significant number of them are “in training.” - The on-site doctor (Dr.Scarlett) was phenomenal. We unfortunately had to make two trips to see her over our 7 day stay and both times she was extremely attentive and thorough. You can tell she really cares about her patients. - The grounds are well maintained, the pools are clean, and the kids pool is great for the little ones. - Star Camp: they seemed to have a lot of good activities, however, even if a kid is days away from being 4, they won’t accept them. The Bad: - Check-in: We checked in online ahead of time but upon arrival at the hotel, we were still requierd to do a full check-in again only to be given the wrong room. When we went back down to reception, the receptionist was extremely rude and said we needed to take the issue up with our booking provider (WestJet) and that rooms were “subject to availability.” After showing our booking confirmation, we were relocated, however, the room did not have spare pillows or sheets for the pull out bed. We called guest services to request some and were told they would be right up. Over the next 90 minutes, we had to call 3 additional times until they were finally brought up. - The Room: the rooms themselves are adequate, however, you can not lower the AC below 22 degrees. The AC in our room leaked on the floor every night creating a slipping hazard, our safe did not lock, the wifi was too slow to stream and the shower would randomly turn off mid-shower then start a minute or two later with freezing cold water. The Ugly: Where do I even start… - The food: to say the food here is awful is an understatement. The food was NEVER hot. By day 5, I was so tired of eating bland, room temperature food that I specifically asked for my steak to be extra hot and it still came out room temperature. I was almost thankful to get food poisoning on day 3 because it meant eating less of the horrendous resort food. They cut so many corners on quality, it’s embarrassing. Not even the bread tasted fresh. The chocolate milk was powered, none of the juices were actual juiced fruits other than the watermelon which was rarely available, there were never any berries, and even the kiwi was scarce. All of the meat they use is frozen and all the food at the café looks like it came straight out of a package. I avoided anything not cooked, all deli meats, lettuce, and cheese sitting out for who knows how long, and still managed to get food poisoning. Word gets around and the day I got sick, so did 8 other people that we’re aware of. 9 people needing to see the on-site doctor is not a small number. At a “five star” resort, that SHOULD NOT happen. - The café: The café itself deserves its own section because it was anything but a café. It’s the only food that’s available 24/7 but the food in the display cases looks like it’s been sitting there for 4+ days. The offerings never changed, the espresso was never hot, and the one attempt I made at getting a frappe resulted in some sort of blended concoction that was 85% crushed ice. I couldn’t even drink it because all the liquid was at the bottom of the glass and they don’t offer straws anywhere on the property. - The drinks: you know that feeling of laying on the beach with a lovely blended cocktail? You won’t get that here. Every. Single. Drink. is made with syrups and from concentrate juices. You can not buy a buzz with their watered-down alcohol and don’t even try to get something with prosecco. Every time I asked for prosecco I was told they were out. The wine at the restaurant tasted like it came out of a vat, not even a box. It was undrinkable, which may have been why we didn’t see a single person drinking wine. - The restaurants: the first night we attempted the Mexican restaurant. The center buffet section was out of almost everything including guacamole and chips. This was a common occurrence across the board where anything with fresh produce was rarely restocked or you had to specifically ask for it. When we went to the Japanese restaurant, we had to wait a half hour to be seated and another hour before we were served any actual food. The meat they rolled out on the cart still had chunks of ice stuck to it and the rice looked like it had been sitting on the counter for hours with how stuck together and dry it was. The “chef” did not use ANY seasoning or sauces and didn’t keep the cooking service turned on while she dished out, so the food once again was not hot. When we tried a restaurant that didn’t require reservations, the wait was a minimum an hour and you needed to keep your phone on you at all times to receive updates. The “steak house” is just the lunch buffet restaurant by the pool which makes it feel very cheesy and underwhelming. - The main buffet: finding options here that were appealing was a struggle, made worse by the fact that at least every other time I picked up a plate off the stack, there was still some sort of food or goo stuck to the bottom of it. I’m not sure what their dishwashing situation is, but it’s not great. Avoid this "five-star resort" at all costs.
The beach is great
Lots of food, but they can do better
What we enjoyed most during our stay was the exceptional service from the staff. With the exception of our receptionist and the team promoting the VIP membership, everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive, and greeted us warmly throughout our stay. Their hospitality made us feel welcome. We also thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks, which were consistently fresh, flavorful, and delicious.
We appreciated how close the property was to the beach. However, the beach itself was extremely rocky, and it would have been helpful if the hotel had advised guests to bring water shoes. Because of this, we weren’t able to enjoy the ocean as much as we had hoped. The room also felt dated and could use some updates. Several maintenance issues stood out, including worn furniture, a very slippery shower, and a broken shower head. Regardless of the room category, I expected a higher standard of maintenance and comfort from a five-star resort. Another disappointment was the adults-only pool. It was frequently occupied by young children, and many guests were eating and drinking in the pool. There didn’t appear to be any enforcement of pool rules, which took away from the relaxing atmosphere we were expecting in an adults-only area.
Good location, rooms are on the old side, food is sub-par and very basic menu. This is all inclusive, service at the pool and beach is utterly understaffed (takes almost an hr to get a drink) and they only bring beverages, no food … so you dont really get to take advantage of the all inclusive concept. Next time we are staying at a higher-end hotel
The service was great, the food was great, the atmosphere was great. The Wirikuta sunset bar had the best drinks and service. Ivette was an amazing bartender and had phenomenal customer service. JJ and Polo were other bartenders there who had an amazing attitude as well and provided excellent service to us. Definitely recommend coming to this resort!!!!
Everything in the hotel was amazing, food, drinks, pool, and snacks where amazing. Wirikuta bar is excellent Ivette, JJ, polo are the best bar tender in the hotel.
On May 5th, my husband and I travelled with my parents to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on the west coast of Mexico. As members of Iberostar the Club, it was our first stay at Selection Playa Mita (SPM). Throughout our stay we met many wonderful staff that tried to tend to our wishes. The staff at SPM are warm and welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. Stephanie's Star Prestige staff; Ana, Miguel and Daphane were amazing at their jobs. Ana always found us by the pool, making sure we were doing well and checking in to see if we needed anything. Miguel is particular to detail and made sure everything went well. Daphane was able to answer all of our questions proficiently. SPM's elite concierge, Emmanuel, is by far one of the nicest, most understanding and informed guest relations we have ever met. His daily communications were always welcomed and looked forward to. Last but not least, and most importantly, our friend, chef Belqui. She by far surpassed all the chefs we have ever had at any Iberostar resort. She is kind, thoughtful and came to visit us on the resort to see how we were doing. Her appetizers, main dishes and desserts were par excellence!! We had a great week at the resort...my husband had a blast with bartender Luis on the terrace :)
This was our 10th visit to this hotel in 12 years (only Covid kept us away!). I think it was probably easily our best so far. I think this hotel is now totally comfortable with what they choose to offer and the market they are offering it to. They vigorously drive consistently high standards across all of their offer and refreshingly do not compromise by trying to be 'all things to all people. When we checked in we confirmed it was our 10th visit and we were treated like royalty. People we had never net were greeting us by name and nothing was too much trouble for anyone - the communications logistics alone in a hotel this size to achieve this is astounding. We are, hopefully, pretty low maintenance as guests. We get up early, breakfast around 7am, swim at 8am, beach by 8:45am. Stay at the beach until 18:00 (with a break for lunch), then sundowners at 7pm, dinner and bed by 9 ish. All we want is good food, good service and peace and quiet and this hotel delivers on every front. It is a testament to Iberostar as an employer that there are so many staff who have been here a long time. This is of enormous value as they all know exactly how the hotel should run and are able to train / support new colleagues so that their experience and commitment to high standards is maintained. The likes of Isabel, Jesus, Elia and their colleagues in the day time restaurants provide such a warm welcome and make sure you have an excellent experience. The front of house staff are working in harmony with the wait staff - filling the gaps when the service comes under pressure. Jesus and his roof top bar team excel in what has to be the most beautiful place to work on earth! They always remember your drinks and keep them coming until you stay stop! The beach staff work tirelessly to make sure you get beds and brollies just where you want them and the beach bar service staff are attentive (even if they laugh at us for only drinking water!). Loved the addition of the Huichol Shamanistic ritual to salute the sunset every night! Special mention for the very special Nayra at the lobby bar - it is always so nice to catch up. The pitch is that this hotel wants to provide you a 'home from home' and it really achieves this. We stay 14 nights and this is where the culinary offer really delivers for us. The choice is endless and the '100% honest home cooking' is exactly what is delivered. Seafood, grills, sushi, pasta, casseroles, roasted vegetables, a myriad of salad items are offered lunch and dinner. Where else would you get trays piled high with grilled lamb chops and rosemary gravy on one station countered by fresh shrimp and mussels on another? The food is very much Mexican / European in concept supported by Asian additions. I mentioned we are generally low maintenance but in our second week my team (the mighty Aston Villa) were playing in the Europa League cup final. The wonderful Karla from the concierge team fixed it with the activities team to screen it for me in the Lobby Bar - it made my holiday (not just because we won!). Even when there were technical difficulties I didn't have to ask - a technician just appeared and fixed it. I have been critical in the past as the 'new shine' disappeared off this hotel and it perhaps struggled with for an identity, but over the last 3 years it has gone from strength to strength. The very present senior management keeping a close eye on every section signals why they now achieve such consistently high standards - even down to the rigorous enforcement of 'no bed reservations'. This creates an atmosphere where every one is treated the same and drives a quid pro quo that if the hotel is going to commit to high standards then so should the guests. Bravo Iberostar - see you next May!
The location is beautiful. Food was sub par. A lot of seafood options but for those who do not care for seafood not a lot of other options. Food was not 5 star quality. Rooms very clean. Staff very pushy to fill out survey on day 1 instead of waiting for you to complete at the end of the trip to give honest and accurate feedback. Excursions offered on site were not accurate on time of the event. For example we booked an excursion to the hidden beach and snorkeling and we told it would be a total of 7 hours but it took more than 10 hours. The sail boat took 3 to 4 hours each way. We had a reservation at the Japanese Steakhouse and we were not able to make it back in time. We tried to call the hotel 6 times to let them know we would not be there on time but only spoke to a person once and she put use on hold and then were disconnected. Each other time we called no one answered. We returned and tried to explain the situation and they would not give us another reservation prior to our departure which was two days later. My husband left his phone in the Uber vehicle upon return from a day trip. He notified the front desk in hopes they would allow the Uber driving to come back up to return the phone but they did not. The Uber driver reported that he waited at the gate for 15 mins later that evening and the gate guards ran him off. Coffee was horrible. Do not get me wrong we had a great time but I would pay more and defiantly book all inclusive at a different resort for my next trip to Puerto Vallarta.
Pros Great views. Staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities were plenty. Always activities around the clock with lots for different age groups. Cons black mould all around my bathroom and in between tiles. Internet is intermittent in my room. They have two wines Red and White not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Certain areas of the hotel were tired and in need of an update. Breakfast was amazing so much choice and variety. Other restaurants of choice so were so busy we could not get a reservation.
Stayed here for my wedding. The location was great, the best beach!!! Nice for beach walks. Some of our guests went to sayulita and la cruz. There is uber available at low prices. Atmosphere is very family oriented. I woundnt recommend if you are looking for more adults only atmosphere in the day. Lots tailored to children. Nightlife was great though. The disco seemed to be busy every night because of all the weddings. Shout out to Abel our wedding coordinator for being very organized, responsive and dedicated to making our day so special!
Very 👍 yesenia lazcano very very good and polite

It was unfortunate that we were greeted with the news that we did not have access to go in for breakfast and use the facilities until 12:00 noon because we arrived at 09:30. Our first experience visiting this hotel was unpleasant because of this policy, which we hadn't encountered at other hotels. We were unaware of this policy, as it wasn't communicated to us when we made the reservation.
excelente comida y atencion del personal
WIFI
I stayed at Iberostar Punta de Mita 4 times and yesterday I was there for a day trip. The entrance and common areas were so beautiful. The pool area has definitely gone downhill. Lots of cracked and broken concrete and pools were less than desirable. Lots of debris in the pools. Not very clean. And the cocktails were awful. The gin and tonic tasted like chemicals, the margaritas tasted gross and smelled like cleaning material. I know it’s all inclusive but the drinks provided were terrible and it’s no longer worth the money to go there. The staff is always friendly.
Great food, clean, not crowded, good entertainment. I went on a snorkelling trip to the Marietas islands and it was one of the highlights of my trip. Talk to the dive shop on the beach. Excellent guide and Mexican crew. Great bird watching and lots of fish on the coral reefs!
This is our 3rd time visiting this resort and it keeps getting better. (Improved seating areas and restaurant reservations) Staff has upped its game — every staff member you walk by smiles and makes a point of saying hello. The service at the bars, restaurants, housekeeping and beach is all outstanding. (Thanks Adrian for the delicious mango margaritas). Food is awesome. The buffets have a huge selection, are well stocked and clean. Fish tacos at beach and snack bar by pool also a hit with family. We choose this resort because it’s relatively small, the beach is amazing (clear ocean with no seaweed) and the ocean front rooms are awesome. The sunset bar is stunning. Rent boogie boards for the week at the dive/sport shack. Try Teddy’s massage on the beach. We often look around at other vacation spots but keep coming back. Thanks to Iberostar for another beautiful vacation.
We paid $4,500 for this stay, and unfortunately, the experience did not match the price at all. We arrived at the hotel around 4:30 PM after a long flight, hoping to relax and get something to eat, but all the restaurants were closed and we had to wait until 6 PM. That was a frustrating start to our trip. Before arriving, I called the hotel to arrange a birthday dinner and was told it wouldn’t be a problem and that I could make the reservation upon arrival. However, once there, we were unable to get any reservations until the last two days of our stay, which was very disappointing. When we got our room, we had requested two beds for three people, but there was only one bed. We had to return to reception and wait again until another room was assigned. The rooms were below expectations. The beds felt old, and there was no hair conditioner in our room. The second room was also not properly cleaned—when we returned the next night, it was still dirty. When we reported it, we were told “sorry” and that it would be cleaned the next day. The drinks were not good throughout our stay. One of the worst experiences was at the French restaurant: my mom ordered fish, and it arrived cold. The restaurant was so dark that we had to use a cellphone light, and we realized the fish was undercooked. The staff apologized and offered another dish, but we decided to leave. The only positive part of our trip was that we finally had a good experience at La Guate Pancho Mexican restaurant. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially considering the high price we paid. We definitely do not recommend this hotel.

We decided to have our wedding here and we are so glad we did. The resort was stunning, the staff was very attentive and friendly, the buffet/food was incredible. All inclusive is the way to go, you can walk up to any restaurant/bar and order whatever you want. No limit, It’s dangerous. Our wedding coordinator was Adriana and I feel so lucky to have had her. She was so attentive, we had been emailing back and forth for months. The wedding turned out perfect and was everything we hoped it would be. Thank you so much to iberstar for the amazing experience.
Our experience was absolutely wonderful especially because of one person, Victor Morales at The Club!!! The service and care from him especially really made our vacation bright!!
We visited Iberostar Playa Mita for the second time in early March. One of the main reasons that we returned was because of the friendly and helpful staff. Just like our first visit, we were treated like welcomed guests. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to make us comfortable. The staff seemed to enjoy getting to know us, as did we, yet in a way that did not violate boundaries. We like the size of this resort - it is not too big, but has all the facilities that we desire. We have been to nicer beaches, but they seem to make the most of what God has provided. The ocean was clear and good for wave jumping, swimming, and floating. We also appreciate the terrace area where you can get great views of the ocean, beach and surrounding areas and also the gorgeous sunsets. We enjoyed the entertainment. One evening we watched a Wixarika (Huichol) ceremony on the terrace. It was very good. We were also fortunate to see a band that was from the outside in the Adelita bar for the second time. A top notch band for being at a resort. We also got to see a Mariachi band that was good. The resort has three very nice pools. We were more than satisfied with the restaurants. Unless you are expecting a 5 star menu, you should be happy with the meals. We especially enjoyed our dinners at the Pacific Express. We were treated very, very well by the staff. When we arrived, Miguel greeted us and got us up and running and made sure that we had everything that we needed. Our other concierges, Ana and Stephanie also took excellent care of us throughout the week. We were able to participate in a wine tasting event with Karla. Karla did an excellent job of explaining the wines and what foods with which they would best pair. She was very very personable, and gave us an extra treat. ;>) Michelle was very helpful when we were able to visit the terrace. As always, Vincente served us excellent and creative cocktails at the terrace bar. Pedro treated us to a mixology class. He showed us how to make three drinks and gave us the recipes. He also did an excellent job of including us in the experience. If you go to this resort, you have to visit the Toston bar and grill which is right of the beach. Adrian is a great bartender and an even greater character. Spend enough time with him and you will have fun. If you like fish or shrimp tacos, make sure that you visit the 'grill' next to Adrian. The fish tacos are great - lightly breaded, fresh, and simple. We ate lunch there almost every day. Belqui treated to several of her culinary creations. On most of the days, Marianna or Jerusalem would bring out a special food item to try. For example, one day it was mango and tajin, another day it was buffalo wings, and another it was shrimp ceviche. Both of them always engaged us in pleasant conversation. I can't think of the proper superlatives to describe our spa experiences. We were treated twice by Ghema and Juliana. They both have manos de angeles. Both times they exceeded our expectations. It was maravillosa!! We will definitely return.
The activities at the resort were excellent. The entertainment team was so much fun and engaging. Pilates and Zumba with Angel was so much fun even though we were exercising.
My husband and I have visited resorts and hotels all over the Caribbean and Mexico in the last 40 years and this is one of the very best. It is beautifully landscaped, decorated and full of amenities. Our room was clean, well equipped with lots of storage, comfortable beds and beautiful, refillable water bottles. Despite construction next door, noise was minimal and never early in the morning or late in the day. The beach was quiet, good for walking, with an watchful lifeguard and an attendee ready to bring umbrellas and chairs as needed. There were always lots of loungers available around the huge pool and activities by the hour. The sunset terrace was great to sit at all day long, a quiet spot away from the busier area around the pool. Entertainment at night was good , particularly the special Wixarika Ceremony. The food was excellent. Buffet choices were huge with excellent table service. Try the mimosa at breakfast and any of their soups. the specialty restaurants were very nice with great service. Reservations required only at the Steakhouse (huge, delicious steak) and Japanese. Lots of other choices at lunch, tacos at the beach bar and burgers etc at the pool bar. All house wines were excellent - better than any other all inclusive that I have been to. Use their app to find out what’s going on and to make restaurant reservations. We did not have any health problems - filtered water is available on all floors using their refillable water bottles. All in all, a great trip. This resort and the staff delivered a wonderful experience and we will recommend it to all friends and family looking for a relaxing, rewarding vacation.
The Good: The resort is lovely and all but one staff member was very kind. The kids program is absolutely amazing the staff there are so sweet and caring. I would go back just for that. My daughter and my friends kids loved the Star Camp and would bed to join them. I loved the layout of the building and the water fill stations, and efforts to recycle. The Mexican restaurant was nice. The buffet has a huge selection. I saw some people complained about the beach but we loved it. Just have to watch the tides and flags. Humpback whales were jumping in the bay. They will bring you seats and umbrellas. The appetizer bar at the Mexican restaurant is great, the main course was Meh, but We went back a couple times just for the appies and ambience. The best food night was the cultural night where they had different food booths located around the lobby like a street market with performers in the middle. The food and show was excellent. The Average: The 2 queen rooms are not 2 queen bed, they are doubles, so people should be made aware of that. Our room smelled of mildew and had some mildew in the bathroom but the beds were clean and comfortable. My parents had an air purifier in their room and that made a difference. The gym is tiny and hot but they have a lot in there. The buffet has a huge amount of food selection. The Ugly: The "specialty restaurants" are not good. The Japanese restaurant was bland and the wine was terrible. I never saw them open a bottle at the table and suspect they are filling bottles with a cheaper generic wine. They refilled drinks in used glasses and never cleaned the garnish from the previous drink out. The "French" restaurant was absolutely disgusting. Food was over cooked, yet not hot. There was a slab of imitation butter on a very poor attempt at a steak. The escargot were so dried up they looked like a scab when it falls off and were so chewy. I can't comment on dessert because we left and went to the buffet. They ran out of a couple items at first sitting. The french restaurant was by far the most disappointing. Despite that, the server we had was wonderful even knowing how disappointed we were in the food. Poor guy, he probably gets complaints all the time. We were there for a week for a wedding and all the guests who ate there said the same, absolutely disgusting.
Incredible property, location, food, amenities!! 10/10.
Despite the unfortunate events happening in the area during my stay, Iberostar truly went above and beyond to make my experience peaceful, safe, and beautiful. From the moment I arrived, the staff showed incredible professionalism, kindness, and genuine care. They made sure guests felt comfortable and well taken care of at all times, which meant so much during a time that could have easily been stressful. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful clean, relaxing, and perfectly maintained. The atmosphere allowed me to truly disconnect and enjoy my vacation. Every staff member I encountered was welcoming and attentive, and their dedication did not go unnoticed. Even with the challenges happening outside the resort, Iberostar made this trip special and memorable. I felt supported, safe, and able to fully enjoy my time here. That level of service speaks volumes about their commitment to their guests. I will definitely be coming back again and again. Thank you, Iberostar, for turning what could have been a difficult trip into a wonderful and relaxing experience.
We had an excellent trip to Iberostar Playa Mita this February. Overall great experience! The best parts were the kids star camp - which had friendly staff and great activities for our 5 year old son. They even had an evening pajama party (for a small additional fee) so we actually got to have a dinner as a couple without our kiddo for one evening. Also the activities were great - especially Zumba with Angel! He brought the energy to every daily class making everyone feel welcome, have fun and sweat! We’d go back for sure. There were a lot of food options - a bit limited for vegetarians but still good. And great to have a 24 hour coffee bar as well. The hotel grounds were clean and well kept. The rooms with ocean views were excellent. There isn’t the best beach here but great views of the Bahía de Banderas and we even saw some humpback whales migrating nearby.
This was our first time to this property. The good: the resort is small and very clean. Staff were constantly cleaning and maintaining the property. Staff were generally very attentive and pleasant. The rooms were large. The Mexican restaurant had the best ambiance and best sound. Breakfast there was lovely. The taco restaurant near the beach was very good. The pool area was nice and had activities. The Star Friends were very active and present. The Sunset Bar was lovely- a great place to have a drink and watch the sun go down. The weather was great during our week. What needs improving: the food was awful- unseasoned, cold and raw fish was not always properly cooled. One had the impression that the food had been sitting for quite a while. Beach access was a problem as it was 4 stories below the resort. Access was either by stairs, ramp or elevator. As there is a tide, chairs were put out as the tide retreated. There were constantly vendors on the beach. Signage was lacking or posted too low for access to elevators, theatre etc. The property is built in two hills so there is a lot of up and down unless you stay in one of the buildings or find an elevator. We tried three specialty restaurants: Pacific Express, the Japanese and The Steakhouse. All were awful and the wine was bad quality. We would not return to this resort. We have been to many AI resorts including Iberostar on the Cancun side and had realistic expectations.
Hotel was beautiful. Staff were great. Weather was beautiful. Nice big pool. Decent food. Big fun waves at the beach to play in. We went as a big family group of about 20 with people of all ages. Our only major complaint is that about 75% of us got sick (and I mean really bad GI issues that lasted for several days). My wife and I have travelled to probably 15 resorts in Mexico over the years, and this is only the second time that we have ever got sick like this. Since it happened to so many people at different times and since we didn't all eat the same things at the same times, it leads us to believe there is likely something lacking with their food preparation / washing plan (so maybe just stay away from raw foods like salads / vegetables and stick with the well cooked items). FYI - The on site doctor came out and visited two people in our group who got hit especially hard (thank goodness for insurance), and we were told they were great to deal with. The doctor believed the infection was bacterial (most likely from food). We had actually brought antibiotics with us which we took after our symptoms started, and the issues still persisted for many days - and I wouldn't wish that ordeal on my worst enemy. FYI - We also found that many many other guests had similar issues during our trip, so obviously this wasn't an isolated event for just our family. In the future, if I ever came back, I would just be very careful of what I eat.
Upon check-in we were upsold a beach view room. The view and sound of the ocean was fantastic, but the constant damp beds, clothes, floors and smell of mildew was not. After a long flight with a child, arriving exhausted, Iberostar attempted to sell us a "timeshare like" membership. Not transparent and exploitative. Blatantly unacceptable behavior and a complete turn off. We will never buy another "add on" from Iberostar ever again, we may never return to an Iberostar property again. We were that turned off by their aggressive and dishonest behavior. If Iberostar's goal is to turn off frequent guests, mission accomplished! Jerks.
Our family of 4 got so sick here my young children had to get shots in their butt cheeks. There were multiple people going to the infirmary with stomach upset and getting needles. The garbage bin in the infirmary was full of needles. And in the middle of the floor, not proper disposal imo. The doctor insisted we were the only ones sick, but the sick couole visiting the doctor infront of us and a bin full of needles said otherwise. The children puked all night and puked through the shot. The resort told us we could not prove that we got sick here so we are out of luck. Did not comp us or make anything better. Just took our money and told us to get lost. They do not have bottled water on the premises which should have been a big red flag. We are supposed to trust their filtration system. We are leaving in a shuttle with no water and dehydrated from vomitting because we no longer trust any consumables from this horrible resort. The rooms are not 5 star. Electrical didnt work had to blow dry our hair in the main room without a mirror. But they were clean so thats something. Beach is very nice. Hotel just sucks big time. Do not waste your money here. It is very over priced and they do not care about the health of small children. My poor kids memory of Mexico is getting a needle in the bottom. We won't be back and recommend everyone boycott this horrible place. Also no fans in the bathroom so good luck getting the smell of vomit and diarrhea out of your room after your family gets destroyed by the aweful bacteria infested food and water. Attached some nasty photos to encourage people to book somewhere else.
Excellent place with lots to do every night. We upgraded to the beach access suite and loved the room. The food was pretty good. Service was great on all levels. This has more to offer than we were expecting. One problem is the guys who book the tours at the concierge desk. Filipe (not hotel staff) lied to us and sold us a terrible city tour with Sun Sea and Land. We spent more time in the bus than we did actually touring. And the tour was a sales pitch for tequila and leather works. Terrible waste of money. Actual time on the streets of PV was 30 minutes and we were gone from 8 until 4. Filipe also lied about Dressel Divers. Told someone they were a dangerous group to dive with and to not use them. Not impressed with that at all. The folks who run Dressel Divers are great. We took their whale tour and it was incredible. We will be back, just wanted to warn people about Filipe and his dishonesty. It’s better to just uber into PV or Sayulita and walk around.
Went last week of Jan with my wife. We took the beach access room, we literally walked out our room and were walking the beach. The beach bar was good, short walk of 1 minute down the beach or you can wait 10 minutes for beach service order and return. I enjoyed the walk to the bar myself. Great Fish tacos here as well. Great Massages on the beach, I recommend the blue tent, Teddy Massage. Restaurants were good, been to better but there was nothing wrong. We did Tepanyaki, French, Mexican and Steak House. Breakfast buffet had great choices. Supper Buffet changes theses daily. We were lucky enough to see Whales many times from our beach chairs. The pool has plenty of loungers, easier to find shady spots than sunny spots. After you pass on the timeshare speech a few times they really leave you alone. Highly suggest the sunset bar for happy hour. Entertainment was above our expectations after reading reviews. We would return. We have been to about 6 different resorts throughout mexico the past 10 years, I would call it closer to 4.5 stars than a true 5 star, but the price is definitely right for this place.
What a wonderful stay. This was truly the perfect getaway. We upgraded to an ocean view and it was incredible to sit and watch the whales from our balcony every day. Shout out to Ale, our server by the pool. She was awesome. Also to the folks up at the Sunset bar. Also to the ladies in the cafe. Finally the staff in the buffet were great. All of them friendly and wonderful to chat with. The Japanese restaurant was so much fun and our chef Yarret (forgive me if I got her name wrong!) was so funny and the food was so good! We felt like our section was having the best time in there. We were not able to get pesos into smaller bills at the front desk. Other reviews we'd read here and suggested we could. Other people mentioned the same thing. So I do recommend doing that before you arrive. We figured it out. The room was great. There is a Chromecast attached to the tv so that was handy. Housekeeping was a bit off. Forgetting fresh towels, refilling toilet paper. It was just weird. Finally if you walk along the beach recommend going right. Less people selling things. We look forward to coming back in the future.
Staff and service was amazing beach beautiful and pools are fantastic Food was ok but not great The downside of the resort was our room. Only 1 outlet worked and the TV had a line down the screen How ever that wasnt a big inconvenience as we were not in the room very much The most disappointing aspect to the room was the walls were very thin you could hear the people in the next room talking like they were in our room. We stayed at the resort last year and didn’t have this issue so it was probably the room itself This didn’t ruin the trip but made it not as relaxing
Fantastic hotel, quality food and drinks, extremely clean, great service and nightly entertainment was top notch! The only surprise was beach with huge waves, good fro walking along the beach but no swimming at all.
We probably should have looked into this resort a bit more before booking, as it’s quite a distance from Puerto Vallarta. The property itself is beautiful, and the staff truly works hard to make guests feel welcome. That said, the rooms are somewhat dated, the nightly entertainment is limited, and the buffet food is often on the cold side. It also seems to be a very popular spot for families—there were children everywhere, which suggests they offer great deals for kids. I personally don’t mind that at all, but if you prefer a quieter, adults‑focused environment, this may not be the best fit.
Extremely rude staff slow check in there’s lots of stairs it’s very spread out a bottle of sun screen is 48$us I found the pool cold there isn’t any where to go that you can walk to to get a meal off the resort the buffet food is cold my room is nice but no English tv the beach has a lot of large stones it’s not nice there’s not many chairs on the beach either I was also told that there is no beach service there’s a bar close so you can get a beer you’re self honestly probably the worst vacation experience I’ve ever had in Mexico
Excellent service, food was great, lots of selection, clean and tasty filtered water, pool was beautiful, rooms were great. Entertainment selections were good. Great for all ages. Great accessibility, able to get to the beach- a beach wheelchair or accessible beach mat would have perfected the trip:) Whale watching from the Sunset Bar all day! Spa/ hydrotherapy was disappointing, no hot tub, just a small bubbly pool- , sauna wasn’t hot either- Overall experience was great and would highly recommend!
Iberostar Playa Mita was an incredible vacation for us . We have been to many resorts over the years but never one that so completely was always on target to provide complete satisfaction during our day The rooms were great at any level or type The buffet will amaze you and the selection of food and other restaurants keep your meal options fresh and new each day The highlight of our service provided was Mayra in the lobby Bar who made a point of getting to know us and never stopped keeping us well taken care of every time we came in . Pedro at the bar was fantastic and made some mean ol drinks !! Juan in guest services and Emily at the front desk made our check in and resort access a top notch experience. We will definitely be back next year ! Jeff and Pam Williams
The resort grounds are stunning. But pool is 4 stories up from beach. Very little ocean view from pool area. Has a fantastic kids area. If you are gluten-free, there was no choices for pastry or bread. Limited selection for special diets, no effort to meet needs. Food was ok, just not to our tastes. 60s and 70s music usually playing, soil you want more updated music choose another resort. Some people love it, so has a place, but we would not return.
The staff was great. We had a small issue in the room (it was a bit dirty and humid) but they quickly reacted, fixed the problem and gave us free massages for the inconvenience. The pool was awesome, the food was really good (surprising for an all-inclusive), my kids loved Star Camp and the people staying at the hotel were good. Great option for family vacations!
The morning tide went all the way to the limit of the hotel, so you virtually didn't have much options to go to the beach before noon. After that, the beach was ok. Rooms looking at the beach were very humid but the concierge offered us a dehumidifier and that helped a ton!
Keily at the front desk was very rude. Her attitude and discrimination ruined my family's vacation
We have visited 28 plus 4&5 star, resorts in the Maya region to Akumal. We have travelled and visited many islands and the top resorts we have stayed at up to 2 weeks. We chose the Iberostar chain of resort and have stayed at all now and previously loved the service, staff, decor, grounds and many positive remarks. This resort we arrived at 1015pm so no restaurants open for food.We arrived on 27 Dec 7nights taking in N.Y.s celebrations. Checking I asked the man how to get some food as a very long day we had. He says go on line. Got to our room and on the net tried to get food, no luck, phone just rang. I called operator and she requested what I wanted (pizza, pine apple and ham. Boy delivered in 45min. I noticed burned too much on the bottom and top, NO pine affple or ham. Asked why, boy turns around and walks fast back to elevator. One day I asked for a ride as wished to see a sunset. Delivers me in the dark on a beach, and takes off. Cold, no chairs ect as waited1 hr and beach person says NO sunrise here up by lobby. Trouble getting a ride and walked far (sr. man, back problems). There was No carts available on this resort to give rides, few on resort and drivers few, working bell boy duties only. Long resort too walk we felt for medical reasons and slight hills to climb, then a walk to beach but NO rides back. This is a family resort and was crowded with young children who screamed and very noisy even in the big pool where adults around. The noise from pushing chairs ect. in buffet/restaurant area was too loud and not comfortable for us. Food sufficent but many times out from burner and cold. Same items each day. The threater not much qualtiy entertainment and very load till 1130. Also entertainers had trouble with power outlets, their music was stopped. We attented the Christmas buffet. Most of the food cold, no heat used to keep food warm. The deserts in a very poor location in the entrance and entering we were not told we had to come out again to get a desert. We and more people did not get a desert! This celebration event was very disappointing as compaired to other Iberostar resorts. We felt that the staff could be a little more friendly when meeting them walking. It is 45miles from P. Valarta, no bus ride return so rented a larger bus. If family with smaller children you could have fun! The resort should have better use of cart transportain and better entertaiment musical, singers we felt. Not recommending this resort for the elderly or singles. After their up keep improvements and better service, more staff and employees might be back. Lovely sunsets, sand changing colors, flat beach, more chairs, tables would make more tourist enjoy the ocean as now NO nice loungers
We have been here many times before, last time we visited was 2023 until this January 2026, Since then there has been an unbelievable change quality of accommodations and food. It has dropped from a four star to a two star resort
Fabulous resort! The food at the buffet is excellent; fresh fish and seafood, well prepared and very tasty! The specialty restaurants are good, but honestly the buffet was better for variety of food. The resort is beautiful, very lush and beautiful mountain scenery surrounds it. It is a distance to a town so if you are looking for 'action' this is not the place. The pool is large and plenty of seating....no issues finding a good spot! The staff are very accommodating; rooms are clean and modern with water stations located throughout the complex to refill when needed.....no waiting for water to be brought to you. The beach may be the only 'downside'. Not great and a bit of a hike - and down an elevator to get to. The scenery from the upper bar deck is spectacular; watching the pods of whales go by on a daily basis was something to see! Bar staff are fabulous and the drinks are very good - and unique. Well worth a visit to this resort as long as you are not looking for late night partying. The Superbowl spread the hotel created was fabulous; creative and fun....and viewing the game from the disco on a large screen was very entertaining! All in all our two weeks at this resort were wonderful, relaxing, fun; and excusions into local towns was a good break away from the resort. Highly recommend a visit! You won't be disappointed.
We had a really great week and would easily return or recommend to friends. The downlow: beautiful spot, great staff, good value for money, something for everyone. If I could, I would give 4.5 stars because it is missing some of the luxury one might expect for 5 stars. However, it is a great resort for the price! The resort is an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, but an easy trip in a nice passenger van. We chose the beach access room and loved it. As a couple of exhausted introverts, we mostly read on our own loungers on our own terrace with occasional walks on the incredible beach, and trips to the beach bar and that suited us fine. The hotel room was nothing special, but it was clean and met all our needs. There were many highlights. The beach was phenomenal for walking. The sunsets were gorgeous. The grounds are in great repair. The food was good; the buffet had an amazing selection, but we thought that the Mexican food options were always the best. The Mexican restaurant was great, the others were good. Coffee shop was great, as were the tacos beside the beach bar. They are extremely attentive to food allergies. As someone who is gluten insensitive I had no trouble making good choices. The fresh fruit was incredible. We enjoyed the sunset bar and the lobby bar. We were fortunate enough to see a coati (a local animal, a relative of the racoon) and some small lizards. The weather in January was absolute perfection. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful without exception. The pop, soda water and beer in the mini-bar (restocked daily) was a little treat. Three things to keep in mind: (1) As with most beach-front properties, they obviously struggle with the dampness. The mildewy scent was noticeable when you first came into the room. But you soon accimatize. Could be an issue for some with respiratory issues. (2) We wanted to tip in pesos, and this was a problem - they have an ATM that dispenses large bills, but the front desk did not maintain a stock of small bills, so we tipped much less than we wanted to (or less often and in bigger amounts). If you can, visit your bank before you go and request lots of 20s and 50s. (3) Finally, this is a big resort - the trip from our room to the restaurants and back was about 2,500 steps. Just be mindful if you have mobility issues. Things I was worried about but didn't need to be: we saw no sea snakes, no crocodiles, no mosquitoes, sand fleas or thieves. The air conditioning worked at all times as did the elevators. Our safe stopped working, but with a call to security, it was fixed in 20 minutes. There is construction going on next door but we never heard any noise. There was a wide variety of dress accommodated at all restaurants - getting "dressed up" was optional. We were invited to breakfast as potential candidates for their loyalty club. After an enjoyable meal we listened to the sales pitch and determined it wasn't a match for us. They paid us for our time in "Iberostar Dollars" which we used in the gift shop. It was a good experience; we were glad we did it. Great trip that checked all the boxes for us, and as folks who have been to a range of resorts we found this good value for the cost. Thanks to the Iberostar team for sending us home well rested and well fed with great memories.
My wife and I visited over Christmas and were very disappointed. The resort itself was very nice as were the staff. That’s where it stopped. The only hot item we had was the fresh made omelet each morning. The rest of the food was barely lukewarm. All the meat items we had wherever we ate was very overcooked and dry. The tepanaki was only so-so and a mediocre presentation by the chef. This resort needs to really apply itself in order to call itself a 5 star resort
Iberostar Mita Our extended family booked a vacation with Westjet Vacations early December 2025 at the Iberostar Mita near Puerto Vallarta. According to the information online this is a 5 star hotel all inclusive for children and adults. Nothing would please me more to confirm that status but it is not even close to the truth. My reasons for rating the Mita are as follows: Rooms at the resort are somewhat outdated and desperately need an upgrade, certain bathrooms are in desperate need of refurbishing, I noticed outdoor taps falling off the sink in some washrooms. There is construction ongoing as they build a new resort or condominium right next door with noise which is somewhat bothersome at times during the day. Air conditioning completely failed throughout the entire resort December 5, 6 ,7, 8 which made dining and sleeping a true disaster. Four of five family members experienced Montezuma‘s revenge and / or sickness lasting several days and we did not venture offsite. I had an opportunity to visit the exercise location, the equipment was workable but definitely noticeable that cracks in the plastic with wear and tear on some of the exercise devices was evident. Overall, we did not find the food at the resort to be anything stellar, our observations were echoed by other customers with whom we talked to. Food averages out in our estimation at about 6-7 out of 10 at the buffets. Some cold dishes seemed to be placed very close to hot foods, we did not notice any staff checking cold food offerings to ensure temperature management. If it is important for your day to start off with a good cup of coffee then you will be disappointed, our family discovered the coffee was quite weak and tasteless. Specialty restaurants varied, the Japanese Restaurant was average with better food available at our local restaurant back home. The steakhouse was very much a disappointment as the steak and rib meats were not tender. We had to send back a steak because it was so rare it was moving on the plate, not what was ordered. In comparison, the salad bar was tasty and enjoyable. Specialty French restaurant was an improvement as compared to some other others. I am pleased to comment the Mexican restaurant was a step above all others including the salad bar and main menu. Christian our waiter was superb and we graciously thanked him for his extraordinary service. Generally the staff were cheerful, obliging and kind, but some levels of management did not necessarily go above and beyond as we have experienced at Iberostar all inclusive adults only. Tomas at the pool bar must have been having a bad day and was not overly friendly. One other incident at the French restaurant with the young lady who greeted us was rather cool and sharp. Kudos to Luis at the Sunset bar, I wish we had found that location earlier. No Amaretto to be found anywhere just a substitute. Of course, Grand Marnier was not an offering. Wine with the meals is very basic, options exist to upgrade at a additional cost are available. Now for a few pluses, The Christmas decoration lighting Wednesday evening with guests was very much enjoyed by our family and granddaughter. Housekeeping staff attended to the room every day and our mini bar was checked daily. Beer, soft drinks and sparkling water are the only beverages offered. Filtered water is available at certain locations on the resort and you bring the supplied glass container to fill it as needed. When you download the app, it advises you that your room has been cleaned and reminds you dinner reservations are upcoming, If you miss a reservation, you are charged. An unusual phenomenon for some specialty restaurants are first come first serve, no reservations available. The wait can be up to an hour or longer as we experienced. The turtle release was certainly a highlight and very much enjoyable for our granddaughter. We found the beach to be free of seaweed and garbage, quite a change from the Caribbean side, and most enjoyable. One may venture for a nice walk along the beach with no concerns. This is not a hotel concern however WestJet vacations who normally include transportation to and from the airport are now offloading that cost to Nexus Tours @ $500.00. That is an additional cost for transportation for our group that was charged separately from the vacation package. While there were some positives based upon our entire experience as outlined, we cannot recommend nor will not be returning to this resort.
No AC for 1/2 of our trip. Pools need work (tiles missing or falling off, very rough bottoms), fitness room equipment needs maintenance, Grounds look very nice, beach was nice, food was okay at best (Mexican restaurant was very good though). Areas clean, bartenders helpful, pool servers were very infrequent and then took a long time to bring drinks. Will not return and don’t recommend.
I was pleasantly surprised with this resort. After reading reviews, my expectations were pretty low but overall it was much better than expected. The food was pretty good. I didn’t really care for the Japanese restaurant, but the steakhouse and buffet were pretty good. They have good liquor for drinks, especially if you are a tequila drinker. There are a lot of activities too. The pool didn’t get busy until 10-11am and it was great that there were always plenty of seating options and no need to get up and save a spot at the crack of dawn. My room had a comfortable temperature and the ocean views were beautiful. I think it’s a great option for families. The kids camp staff seemed really engaged with the children.
The first night we got there our 14m old daughter stood up in the crib at one point and the bottom fell out. We found loose screws and metal parts underneath. Thankfully she was not hurt. They promptly replaced the crib that night and called our room to apologize. (And gave us a bottle of wine/chocolates a couple days later) Unfortunately though, this is a serious safety concern so it is hard to justify a higher rating. Food was decent. We liked the Italian night. Service was quick. They provided a lot of extras for baby/toddler. I would just recommend bringing your own pack and play if you have a baby/toddler. Side note: if you’re on the bottom floor facing the beach, put a rolled up towel in front of the door at night. Little crabs kept making their way in from under the door lol Otherwise, it was cool being so close to the ocean.
We spent 9 days at Iberostar just before Christmas. It was a wonderful experience in every way. We were upgraded to a room overlooking the ocean which was a plus. We paid extra but it was worth it. Excellent service. The hotel was not overcrowded so we had no problem finding chairs by the pool or beach. Pleasant grounds. Dining choices were very good, from the buffet to the coffee shop to the snack bars. Special thumbs up to the Mexican restaurant which was excellent and no reservations required. One criticism: we were not impressed with the steak house where we needed reservations. The steak was not done how I ordered it, and was as tough as shoe leather. But all in all, the hotel is an excellent choice for travellers.
This review is solely about the accessibility booking process, not the resort overall. As a disabled traveler, I was extremely disappointed to be told that accessible rooms are “subject to availability,” despite my accessibility needs being disclosed more than eight months in advance. The experience was further impacted by poor customer service and a lack of meaningful engagement from management in attempting to resolve the issue. If you require accessible accommodations, I strongly recommend contacting the hotel directly and obtaining written confirmation, rather than relying on third-party bookings. It is difficult to understand how accessibility can remain “subject to availability” when disclosed well in advance. For comparison, we have stayed with the Barceló brand multiple times and have consistently received confirmed accessible rooms at the time of booking.
Outstanding Kids Club & Staff – Karen Was Incredible This is my first TripAdvisor review, and I felt compelled to write it because of Karen at the kids club. The kids club at Iberostar was truly excellent. Our son has never wanted to participate in a kids club before and usually has no interest at all. Karen went above and beyond every single day to encourage him to join activities. She was kind, patient, and never pushy—just genuinely caring. Because of her efforts, he eventually participated. Karen remembered his name and greeted him multiple times a day, which really helped him feel comfortable and confident. The kids club itself offers a wide variety of activities and is one of the best we have experienced. Karen is a huge asset to this resort and deserves special recognition. The pool area is very large. While the water could be a bit warmer (I personally prefer a warm pool), it was still enjoyable and we’ve experienced colder pools elsewhere. There was always chairs by the pool area so you don’t have to get up early to go save a chair The food was our least favourite aspect of the resort. It was okay overall, but many dishes were often not very warm, with the exception of the specialty restaurant, which was much better. The service throughout the resort was good, and staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, Karen and the kids club played a major role in making this trip memorable for our family. Thank you to Iberostar for having such a wonderful team member.
Fabulous. The pictures online do not do this place justice. Well laid out, fantastic beach and fabulous staff. Special shout out to Luis and his crew at the Sunset Bar. Laughter and always a good time. Also Rundolfo in the Pacific Express restaurant was wonderful. Great suggestions, great service, great smile. You made both our visits the restaurant so very special. Thank you to everyone on staff for making our trip unforgettable.
Iberostar Selection Playa Mita never disappoints! It begins with a hard working conscientious management team that has set the stage for a positive and harmonious workplace environment. We would especially like to thank Rafael. Head chef Christian and his wonderful team consisting of Miguel, Pepe, Estefania, Doroteo, and Belqui are doing an amazing job at the Iberostar Playa Mita. After 29 days we can say in all honesty that the buffets have been consistently delicious and always intriguing. A big shout out to Louis! He is in charge of the evening pasta and pizza stations. His pasta sauces are delicious and his joyful personality is certainly contagious! We would also like to think our waiter Christian from the dinner buffet. He did a spectacular job, ensuring that our dining experience was the best it could be! We would like to give very big thank you to the Prestige team led by Stephannie and supported by Emmanuel, Ana and Miguel. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in great hands. They all did their very best to ensure that we had a fabulous holiday. It was also a pleasure having Jenny there on the Prestige deck to ensure that all guests were well taken care of. She is truly an amazing lady. Vincente’s beverages on the Prestige deck and Pedro’s beverages in the prestige lounge were consistently well-made and delicious. Also, everyone enjoyed guest appearances on the Prestige deck by bartender Adrian. He made the greatest shooters and was always great fun to be with!! Enrique did a super job making sure that guests on the Prestige deck were comfortable and that washrooms were pristine. His work ethic is an example to all. Judith did an exceptional job attending to our room. Our bed was always beautifully made, towels were replaced as needed and all amenities were in place. We truly look forward to our next vacation at the Iberostar Selection Playa Mita!!
I was particularly disappointed there was sales pitch right off the start. I thought at first the person assigned was to help us but it eventually turned into a sales pitch for the Iberostar Membership. In addition, if you wanted any kind of deals for other vendors near the resort (i.e. golf) they would give them if you attended the morning breakfast. Not impressed. We had beach front access rooms and they were lovely. Very convenient for the beach days to come and go. The food was really good across the resort. We travelled with a toddler so the buffets were excellent for him and the fact he could eat and then head off with an adult while others ate. The only restaurant that was a challenge was the French one as service was slower and there was no buffet for quick food for the little one. Really enjoyed the steakhouse and Japanese (booked) restaurants. The resort is showing its age in places and they are doing room renovations over time. The main elevator for our room access stop working our second day in to a 7 day stay and was never fixed. We found out 3 days later there was an alternate elevator that could be used for the stroller but this was found out when one of our rooms had to be moved because of leaks for 2 nights. Communication to people staying and using the elevator was non-existent. Only a sign stating out of order. We were below the sunset bar and area for private events (i.e. birthdays, weddings, etc.). Our second and third nights both had very loud events on that reached us 4 floors below and went on very late. This was not comfortable for sleeping on a very shorty stay. The Christmas light up event went well and was very nice, especially for kids. For our last night of dinner we had planned to go to the Mexican buffet restaurant. We were disappointed when we arrived for the 6 pm dinner to find out there was a private event in there. It was to open at 6:30 pm for public but we found out later it did not open then either. We could have made alternate plans had we known about the private event. We booked a shuttle to take us from the resort to Sayulita for a couple of hours. The day we caught the shuttle the driver was 20 minutes late. He did not offer to give us the extra 20 minutes in town to explore so our pick up time stayed the same. This was disappointing as we really liked the town and would have liked a few more minutes to check out the markets as the vendors were opening as we arrived. Iberostar has an app for communicating various events, etc. around the resort. I was thoroughly disappointed that there was no information / communication on the broken elevator and the alternative elevation put on the site while we were there. Additionally, why was there no information on the private event closing the Mexican buffet restaurant also, If Iberostar wants to get information out to guests then they need to learn how to use their own app and keep it updated and current.
We spent 9 nights at this resort in early December, 2025. It was our third visit to this property and while we have had some great stays at this resort, this one was not as good as previously. The biggest concern we had, for the second year in a row, was the air conditioning. We had problems in our room last year where the A/C worked, but it wasn't cool enough. This year the A/C went out completely resort-wide. No air conditioning in your room, in restaurants, or the lobby bar. It went out on day 3 and never returned. It was brutal and it ruined our vacation, full stop. It is an awful shame as well, since this is otherwise a good resort. The staff and the service, food and drinks at this resort are quite good in our experience. The rooms are clean, if getting a little dated, and the beds are very comfortable. But the only relief from the heat was the pool. Well, you can't sleep in the pool. It was almost impossible to get a good night's sleep. The rooms have ceiling fans and that was a life-saver, and after speaking several times to management, staff produced a large industrial fan to accompany the ceiling fan, which made a moderate difference. It would be easy to say that this was just bad luck, but we did have that issue the year before. That tells me that they have an infrastructure issue that is serious and hasn't been properly addressed. Furthermore, this resort only opened in December of 2013, yet there are these kinds of issues in a hotel that is only 12 years old. The positives were the staff, who faced the anger of many an angry guest with grace and professionalism, the food, the animation staff (thank you Marco!) and the pool bar staff (thank you Adrian!). The staff at the lobby bar were also excellent (thank you Mayra!). The concierges were also very helpful and always checking up on us (thank you Angel!). The laundry service was also excellent and affordable, it was 485 pesos (roughly $37 Canadian) for a load of bathing suits, underwear, pajamas, workout wear, one pair of shorts and three tops and it took just under three hours round trip from the room and back again. They were able to remove a red wine mishap from a white t-shirt and a pair of shorts with no trace whatsoever that it was ever there. It is also worth noting that this resort is very clean. We would call it spotless. Maid service in the room was very good and the whole resort is just very clean. No matter where you look you always see somebody cleaning something. We can also say that while the animation staff do a great job, it does tend to get rather loud at the pool. If a quiet vacation is your thing, this might not be for you. For us, we enjoyed watching all of the activities and games at the pool. A lot of fun. With respect to the location, you are quite isolated that far out. It takes about 45-50 minutes from the airport as long as your transportation doesn't have to stop elsewhere. There really is nowhere to do any real shopping or experience off-resort restaurants unless you take a shuttle or cab/uber to Sayulita, Bucerias or Vallarta. The beach was a bit rocky this year, but you can walk for a long ways. Caution: there is an area about 10 minutes walk north down the beach where there is a swamp. Stay on the beach and avoid that swamp as there are crocs in there. They don't tend to come down to the beach. At this point we find it hard to recommend this resort anymore. That's hard for us to say because it was one of our favorites. But, we won't be returning anytime soon. Quick facts: Hair dryer: yes - a good one. Seemed professional grade. Room mini fridge: yes (coke products, sparkling water, Dos Equis) Wifi: yes, very good resort-wide. A-la cartes: Japanese (very good) and Steakhouse need reservations; French and Mexican are first come first served. Gym: Yes, one recumbent bike, one regular bike, one elliptical, one stairmaster, 3 treadmills, lots of weights and machines. Gets hot. If you have questions we would be happy to answer.
