Everything about the hotel was amazing. Although it is not within easy walking distance to shops, the Tuk Tuks are readily available and cost 1000 rupee (about £2.50) to Marissa beach, less that ten mins away. I loved that at 6pm, day old baby trutles were released into the sea, collected from the on site hatchery.

The local beach had a fair amount of rubbish, but not directly in front of the hotel, implying that hotel staff keep it clear. The red flag was on display while I was there for two nights, but safe to swim in the sea further along the beach.

Neat place near the beach, good value, and great breakfast.

L’emplacement

Très mauvaise expérience, absolument pas digne d’un hôtel. Durant notre séjour (du 11 au 15 janvier), nous avons constaté que le locker de notre chambre avait été ouvert et qu’une somme de 150 € avait été volée dans une enveloppe qui s’y trouvait. Ce locker était fourni par l’hôtel et présenté comme sécurisé. Après signalement, la direction nous a d’abord affirmé que cela était impossible. Or, il a été établi que le locker peut être ouvert avec un code universel par défaut (123456), ce qui représente un grave manquement à la sécurité. De plus, selon les informations issues de la vidéosurveillance, la seule personne ayant eu accès à notre chambre durant notre absence était le room service. Le plus choquant reste la gestion de l’incident : aucune aide de l’hôtel, aucun appel à la police, aucun accompagnement. Nous avons dû tout gérer seuls, y compris le dépôt de plainte auprès des autorités locales, ce qui est totalement inacceptable pour un établissement hôtelier. Voyager à l’étranger et subir un vol est déjà une expérience stressante. Être en plus laissé sans assistance par l’hôtel l’est encore davantage. Nous déconseillons fortement cet établissement pour toute personne recherchant un minimum de sécurité et de professionnalisme. Expérience très anxiogène, perte de confiance totale.

Het hotel ligt schitterend aan het strand en het uitzicht is prachtig. Dit is zonder twijfel een van de sterkste punten van de accommodatie.

Het buffet, zowel tijdens het diner als het ontbijt, viel zwaar tegen. Het eten was koud, bakken werden niet aangevuld en de kwaliteit was ondermaats. Ik heb eerlijk gezegd wel eens betere maaltijden in het vliegtuig gehad. Dit deed sterk afbreuk aan de ervaring. Het personeel spreekt nauwelijks Engels, wat communicatie lastig maakt. Aan het zwembad en strand komen medewerkers echter wel iedere 15 minuten langs om te vragen of je iets wilt bestellen. Dat is in het begin misschien attent, maar op een gegeven moment eerder storend. Bij aankomst bleek ons bed nog nat te zijn, omdat er simpelweg vochtige lakens overheen waren gelegd. Daarnaast kregen we telkens maar twee handdoeken, wat niet praktisch is als je meerdere keren per dag wilt douchen of naar het strand gaat. Het schoonmaken van de kamer duurt enorm lang; soms wel drie uur voordat ze klaar zijn. Het hotel lijkt voornamelijk bezocht te worden door lokale Sri Lankanen en nauwelijks door toeristen. Dit op zich hoeft geen probleem te zijn, maar het zorgde er wel voor dat er ’s nachts, vaak tot ver na middernacht, harde rituele muziek werd afgespeeld. Hierdoor hadden we vrijwel elke nacht last van geluidsoverlast. Vervoer & Veiligheid Een ander groot probleem is dat het hotel geen vervoer voor je kan regelen. Je wordt geacht zelf naar de grote weg te lopen om een tuktuk te nemen. Dit werd pas echt een probleem op de dag van uitchecken. Wij hadden zelf een taxi geregeld voor een langere rit, maar de tuktukchauffeurs bij de ingang hielden onze chauffeur tegen en bedreigden hem zelfs. Onze chauffeur gaf aan dat het niet veilig was om ons bij het hotel op te halen. Toen wij dit meldden bij de receptie en vroegen of zij ons konden helpen een veilige taxi te regelen, weigerden ze dit en verwezen ons gewoon terug naar dezelfde tuktuks die onze chauffeur hadden geïntimideerd. Dit voelde ronduit onveilig en was een van de meest absurde ervaringen die ik ooit in een hotel heb meegemaakt.

We stayed at Mandara resort for 3 nights. It has private beach which is quite serene and beautiful. The location is absolutely perfect. The rooms are clean. The staff was quite prompt to upgrade our rooms to sea facing rooms. Its quite close to main road and its easy to find transport to nearby places or market area. The breakfast spread is also good.

The restaurant is quite slow if you order food. The food is just ok.

I absolutely loved my stay at Mandara and I will be back soon for sure. The staff were very friendly and special thanks to the Priyankara and bar staff, Lalit, Sampath and the pool staff and the lady who checked me in at the reception. I will for sure recommend many people in the UK to stay in the hotel. Keep up the good work team! Stunning views and location. Nice simple set up and a homely feel. Thanks a lot. see you soon! :)

The staff were great - particularly the security man who looked after us as my children’s room was in a different block to ours across the road. THe events manager was brilliant and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed. The pool guy Sampath was lovely as were the two bar men. The rooms were clean and so were the public areas. The New Year’s Day activities were great fun. The pool is lovely and kept well. They hatch turtle eggs and release them into the ocean

The booking made through Booking .com confirmed we needed a third bed and had been confirmed by the hotel but it hadn’t been actioned. Unfortunately my children’s room was in a separate block across the road from ours which I was not happy about but the hotel said they couldn’t move them. This maybe was my fault for booking the separate rooms but using Booking .com site I could not see the layout of the hotel. But the hotel should have picked up on the family ages from my booking and made a recommendation to put us at least in the same building. There was only one working socket point in room 209 and took 2 days to get an extension lead The air conditioning unit did not work initially in that room and also broke again and leaked over my sons bed and was not fixed before we left. Breakfast was interesting as the staff eat before guests have finished and the choice is very sparse if you go after 930 ( breakfast finishes at 10) Service was friendly but slow in the restaurant at other times. The sea current is strong and lots of rubbish due to proximity of river joining sea - go to Mirissa or weligama for better sea and beach

Hospitality was even more than expected, they attended to my requirements within a short period of time. Room was clean, neat & specious. Food is tasty & the buffet had a good variety too. Overall this is a superb place to spend a vacation!! Thumbs up..👍 will visit there again for sure

Amazing stay!

It is a nice peaceful resort. The staff especially in the resurant and pool side was so nice and friendly. The main drawback with this resort is it's not a good place during rainy season as it's on the bank of estuary. As the river water comes with force during rainy season the sea is muddy and cannot swim or play in the sea. The next thing is that the staff in the reception have no answer for anything you ask. If you ask what activities you have nearby they will tell you to Google. Tuk tuk is available if you walk to the main road, but they don't even help calling for one. So unless ypu have everything sorted it's better not to stay there as for all activities you have to go to either Mirissa or Weligama. If you are just coming to relax then it's a nice place. Food was not that great.

Very disappointing stay.When i reached i informed them that i want to upgrade to bigger room because i have 1 more guest with me,so they said it is already full.Later the manager informed that they can upgrade to room with private pool and they will add 1 more single bed (initially no available room so ot means they alraedy changed my room). i was surprised that the pool is not functionning for more than 1 month and totally dirty. Also i requested indining 3 times but the food came after 2 hours. The room is dirty and espcially the tables.

Overall very nice ocean front facility, rooms are clean, older but comfortable. AC works well. Staff though not very well trained are trying their best to be helful. Food is good, lots of chices and close to authentic. Difficulty road to get to the hotel, then this is normal for Sri Lankan hotel outside of Colombo.

Slighly dated but staff are lovely and a great pool, quiet area

Lovely clean pool and ocean. The breakfast was great with a lot of options for babies like hoppers and pancakes, porridge and the food was very tasty. The restaurant also made food for our 1 year old on request. Very friendly and accommodating staff and the pool was also kid friendly and shallow which made it super easy to get our child acclimatized to water. There was also as wonderful and friendly tuk tuk driver outside called pradeep who helped us a lot in getting around.

The in room service menu was very limited.

Not worth for money. Booking.com stating as 5 star hotel but hotel staffs claimed as 4 star. Actually it should be 3 star. Hotel charged $70 more than i booked on booking.com. Paid extra for drivers accommodation.. No iron box No tooth paste

The sea was very bad on june and july on that area and in this hotel in special. Not recomend to go on during these months

Room with the view to the ocean was something we really liked and enjoyed. Staff was friendly and checking in process was very fast. Breakfast was good too.

Ran a bit awkwardly. Every interaction felt like I was doing something wrong. Seems like it was a really nice hotel in the 90s and is now just staying afloat. It's in a weird location on the beach and also not easily accessible to town. Overall just odd..

The facility needs to organize tuk tuk for its guests as it's a little far from the centre. Hotel stuff needs to develop qualities of hospitality management.

Difficult to access, bug infestation in the room, shower would not drain, on the beach, but isolated from everything else, and the bar restaurant and bar were lacking.

the breakfast was horrible. we weren’t allowed to take our pool towels to our rooms- highly inconvenient our room smelled of drain and sewerage we weren’t aware that the lake view meant showing us across the road, away from the resort breakfast was so basic, worst coffee the beach isn’t safe or swimmable far from places of interest

main property looks nice, lagoon view property is older and a bit random but still rooms were clean and value for money

the staff were pretty rigid about a lot of things! felt like they had no flexibility to do anything to accommodate guest requests and instead had to follow a set routine / process

The pool was very nice, breakfast was also very good. We received an upgrade to a seaview room. The room was very large and spotlessly clean. The hotel is located right on the beach.

The location is NOT on Mirissa Beach and is somewhat isolated. My room had a nice bathroom although the hotel is rather old. There are bay view rooms outside of the hotel complex which didn't look so nice.

Mandara Resort Mirissa, just remember this name for the best hotel in Mirissa. we have stayed at this hotel for two days. Stepping through the lobby, i was immediately struck by the beautiful beach. very welcoming atmosphere. The staff throughout the hotel were very professional, friendly and extremely helpful. one of waiter Ravindu Sasaranga was the Favorited. They always greeting and smiling to us. The breakfasts and dinner were amazing. The location of the hotel is great. The room was very spacious and well equipped with all essentials and fantastic view. we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to the tourists who want to go to Southern part of Sri Lanka. Will be back to this place..!!!

Breakfast is awful Staff do the bare minimum Shower goes from piping to cold, hard to shower No wifi outside of the room ... yup Pool was cloudy, could barely see anything - I guess this means it's dirty? Little privacy in the room as everyone from the pool could see into the room

Electricity issue, the amount they are charging the hotel must provide backup. The location is near sea so it's hot and hard to live with hot temperature.

We like the executive room not the room with the pool, the pool is too small and u the room is not renovated yet. The executive room with a jacuzzi was much better with the view the refurbishment and the shower inside

Restaurant and pool staff were lovely. We booked a room with a private plunge pool but it wasn't so private with workmen making noise and working above it from 7.30 am each morning.

The resort and staff were fantastic. Needed to use a tuk tuk to get to nearby attractions, but small price to pay for the fantastic treatment we received at Mandara.

What can I say! The staff was excellent! The food was phenomenal! The stay was beyond perfect! Thank you Mandara resort staff and management for upgrading my room and making me feel like family! I will be back for sure!

It was peaceful and great

The rooms are nice and clean. The staff at the front desk is not very helpful. The pool area is nice but a chain fence around the beach area puts a major damper on the overall feel of the place.

Lovely hotel in a quiet area, secluded beach but only a short tuk tuk ride to all the beach bars in Mirissa. Fabulous, spacious rooms, didn’t eat in the restaurant but there was a good selection at breakfast

Enjoyed the stay and the food is really good The restaurant serving staff need training. After 10.30 all restaurants and room service will be closed and have to go to bed with an empty stomach.

Nice little place. A bit 1970s feel, but actually we found it pretty comfortable and the rooms were large and well appointed. Management made an effort to introduce themselves and made sure we were comfy. It’s a bit of an odd location - a bit stuck between Weligama town and Mirissa town but it works ok as we walked the road into town and caught a tuk tuk back easily enough. I’d say it’s somewhat faded but good value. Wifi was sketchy in the room. Gym was a bit rusty. Breakfast was good - with lots of options. Bar staff and restaurant staff very helpful. Receptionist was lovely and helpful.
