Ventana Bay Resort

Fantastic experience with Ventana Bay Resort! Our accommodation was lovely and well appointed. We were on a hill overlooking the ocean with a nice private patio. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The manager, Toni Moreno, went out of his way to make sure that everything was perfect. The atmosphere is laid back, quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed breakfast on site a couple of days and it was delicious. There is also a grocery market and several nice restaurants nearby. The location, just outside the main area, was perfect for a relaxing stay. They have an onsite instructor for water activities and the snorkeling right off the beach was amazing! I would highly recommend a stay here and hope to be a repeat customer! 😊

Desde la llegada uno debe abrir y cerrar la reja y si es de noche todo obscuro , llegar al hotel desde el aeropuerto 50kms y de esos 3 kms para llegar de terracería, solo había desayuno de 8:00 a 9:30 y siempre muy reducido el menú. No hay alberca, TV ni radio, en el cuarto solo un refrigerador y una cafetera, la playa llena de piedras, la arena sin nada de cuidado ni siquiera propia para caminar. Solo hay una persona como encargada y no está en el día solo va en ratos y después de las 18:30 se va y no hay nadie.

Gorgeous casitas overlooking the bay. Boutique resort on the beach with kitesurfing, kayaking or SUP. Each villa has privacy and a spacious interior. Stunning sunrises and moon rises from the patio. Nice breakfasts at the restaurant or kitchenette in the casita. Loved it. A special private place.

This the jewel of the Baja. This resort is amazing! The views for the casitas are amazing, our casita is private had a nice private outside shower, two lounge chairs, and a table with chairs for morning coffee or afternoon margaritas. The staff is friendly and willing to help with anything you need. The beach is PERFECT, not crowded, in fact if we saw 3 other people we were surprised. The food is amazing! This beach is perfect! La Ventana is a great little sleepy village with great food, friendly people and a high number of expats. The drive to La Paz is easy, just look out for the Mexican police leaving La Paz in the afternoon. They’ll try to shake you down for money, all you tell them is “I know I’ll get into trouble and so will you if I pay here. Take me to your station and I’ll gladly pay the ticket.” More than likely he’ll say, “No ticket”, and let you go. All in all a great resort. We’ll be back next year.

A fine property with friendly management. La Ventana/El Sargento is a premier kiteboarding and wingfoiling destination, so it that's what you're here for, this is a very good spot because of its large stretch of beach open for guests only. That makes for less crowded water, which reduces collisions and accidents with tangled lines and less experienced boarders. The public areas farther to the south have many more kites and foils. This property also offers gear and lessons through independent and experienced instructors; also whale watching tour boats can pick you up on the beach by arrangement. I caught sunrise on the beach here every day. A downside of the property is that beyond breakfast, there are no food options, but that is not really a big deal because not too far away, by walking up or down the beach, there are good and affordable restaurants. With a car or farther walking (along the dusty main road), there are many good (even excellent) restaurants "in town"; small grocery stores also have food you can keep in your room in the small fridge. The township area is generally safe because it is in the best interests of the locals and other powers-that-be not to upset the tourist & windsport economy that is the lifeblood of this area. Overall, a fine experience here and if I were to come back to this part of Baja, I'd gladly stay here again.

La experiencia es increíble, el lugar es maravilloso, muy tranquilo, me encantó que las cabañas estuvieran separadas del resto. Se encuentra a pie de playa, la cual está sola y espectacular. las personas que atienden el lugar son muy amables y te envían vía Whatsapp información muy valiosa sobre lugares cercanos, restaurantes y eventos.

Amazing place. Warm welcoming, staff attentive to needs, beautiful place, beach front, amazing views, beautiful landscapes, ocean front, most of all we were very respected. Price was more than reasonable and the breakfast was delicious.

We had a lovely peaceful three night stay at Ventana Bay Resort and are plotting how to get back soon! Our bungalow was simple, beautiful and comfortable, designed with real care. I loved having private outdoor space to read, lounge, watch birds and stars. Breakfast daily was an add on and totally worth it! We were lucky enough to arrive on an afternoon when dinner was served and the meal absolutely delicious. Service is very low key, but everything we needed was easily accessible. Very quiet, chill vibe. Super enjoyed waking up and taking our coffee to the rooftop bar area to watch the sunrise over the bay, then strolling down to get a little snorkeling in before the winds picked up in the afternoon.

I had an amazing time at this resort during my yearly kitesurfing trip. The bungalow in which I stayed was clean and comfortable. The restaurant had a great view of the ocean and there was even an upper deck bar. The beach was easily accessible and there was a kite school on the premises. However, the best part of my experience was the staff. From the General Manager, Tony, to everyone else, they made me feel at home. I will definitely be returning to this wonderful place for years to come.

The website advertises a bar and dinner available with reservations. This is false. There is no bar. There is a beautiful rooftop sitting area that was a bar at one time. You are welcome to bring your own drinks. A limited breakfast and lunch can be had from the restaurant if reservations are made beforehand. There is no dinner service available at all. The lack of a microwave in the room and the fridge being very small makes bringing food back a bit of a pain in the butt. The absence of bar and dinner restaurant, combined with the need to drive to and from town, was a large negative for our holiday. For us, having an afternoon cold one or a night cap with other travellers is part of the experience. If we had known this was the case prior to booking, we would have not chose this hotel. Can you actually call it a resort if there is no bar. For this reason I would not recommend staying here.

Had an amazing time at Ventana Bay Resort! Photos don’t do this hotel justice - the rooms, views and grounds are spectacular! You’re able to kiteboard right from the beach, which is one of the most expansive ones in the area. The casita was very comfortable and equipped with everything needed for a long stay. Enjoyed watching fish jump in the mornings while the waters were calm and kiting in the evening when the wind picked up. Nelly did an incredible job accommodating us and assisting with booking activities. Highly recommend staying here if you’re traveling to La Ventana!

What an amazing experience. Ventana Bay Resort lived up to every expectation we had in escaping to Baja and La Ventana. The Casitas are clean, roomy, private and oozing with Baja charm. The property is quiet and the view from our Casita was amazing. Nelly and her staff made us feel like family. Always available if we needed something, but rarely seen...a rare accomplishment. Don't miss the incredible breakfast made fresh to order. If you are looking to experience Baja the right way, this is it. We will be back again and again! We had a wonderful stay at La Ventana Bay Resort! It is secluded and romantic and the property is very well cared for. The service is wonderful too! We had breakfast and lunch at the resort and the food was delicious!

Ventana Bay resort is the perfect getaway for a Kitecation! We loved the grounds, our room, and the staff. Our Villa was very clean and beautifully decorated. Nelly was so patient and accommodating (we had some self inflicted reservation complications). The set up for kiters is perfect. Just walk out of your villa and your'e on the beach, ready to set up and launch. I can't recommend Ventana Bay Resort enough! One million stars!

This is a gorgeous property with beautiful views, quiet and tranquil, on the beach. Be aware that due to the location, a rental car may be necessary if you plan day tours.

The location and the facility was beautiful. Staff was wonderful, very responsive to questions via email or in person.

I've now been to the lodge twice. It's got very nice bungalows, a restaurant and bar- & located right on the beach. Great spot for nature lovers. The grounds are very well-cared for. Staff are super friendly. They don't serve meals regularly, so you need to let them know if you want food, but the kitchen is exceptionally clean and the food is delicious. Also, just down the beach are some other places to dine. Most people would want to rent a car, but I didnt, so the lodge arranged transport to pick me up at La Paz airport. I highly recommend this place, especially if you like biking, fishing, aquatic sports, snorkeling, birdwatching or just relaxing in paradise.

We have been spoiled for any other place! We have been coming for over 7 years now and have stayed in most of the rooms. Tony, Nelly and Bill always make sure we are taken care of. They are the most lovely people and will go out of their way to make sure you feel at home. Marty and Jill are wonderful if you want to learn how to kite. Stayed there because we were looking for accomodation for another night. That was great. We would have stayed there the entire time if we would have know that place. Highly recommended. Very nice grounds, great restaurant, plus rooftop bar, great rooms.

I had such a wonderful stay here. Big shout out to Nelly who is such a gracious host, helpful, friendly, and professional. The setting amongst the beach is perfect, complimented by the amazing landscaping on the property. The food is fresh, local, and gourmet. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean and well maintained with nice amenities such as a fridge, drinking water, and coffee machine in room. I definitely recommend renting a car but the location is an ideal jumping off point for whatever your interests are - ocean going or land based. I met several other guests who have been frequenting the area and the hotel for many years, it is easy to see why and I look forward to returning soon and for many years to come. Thank you all!!

This is our 18th year coming to this area and this Hotel. I have led 2 Yoga Retreats here. Tony & Bill have been nothing but accommodating to our needs. If you are looking for deep rest, kite-boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling or just dipping in the water out in front of your room come! The food is literally some of the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life! They hire local chefs from the area. You get 3-4 course meals for dinner. Breakfast & Lunch are included. You can also book tours to see the whale sharks, whales or to the local islands. Day trips include: Bahia de los suenos, Punta Arenas coral reef, La Paz & Espritu Santos & Cerralvo Islands. Or just hang out and snorkel in front of Hotel! Renting a car is preferable. We also brought our daughter with us every year. She loves it here. I cannot say enough good things about this quiet, homey Eco-Resort. You will feel like a local here.

This place feels like staying at a friend’s vacation home. They make every effort to ensure guests are happy. Clean accommodations, beautiful artwork and lighting, fresh cooked breakfast and lunch. Beach is full of sea life. Snorkel out about 50 meters from shore and see thousands of fish!

I don't even know where to start...I just loved the whole experience. I booked the trip less than a week before leaving so had limited options for places to stay so kind of fell into staying at VBR and am SO thankful that it worked out that way. EVERYTHING about the experience was just excellent but I have to say that the property manager, Toni, had a lot to do with it - he goes above and beyond to show you A-class hospitality. I went there to kite and VBR is right on the beach and highly geared towards this. They have equipment to rent and have things like snorkeling gear and paddle boards for low wind days. There are even a couple of instructors who operate out of the resort and have jet skis which makes for excellent lessons. Highly, highly recommend.

We stayed for three days. When we arrived, Tony was waiting for us. He is great and anything you need was fulfilled. He made us feel so welcome. He showed us 3 bungalows which we could choose from. And we chose the one with the most privacy, a beautiful view and three places to sit and enjoy the ocean view. We had sunbeds which we often used in the afternoons. We had breakfast at the little restaurant. It was freshly prepared. Eggs made to order with coffee and juice and a great plate of perfectly cut fruit. This is a place we would visit again when in the area. The beaches here are great for people like us who love to do long beachwalks. There are lots of kiters, nice to watch.

It is a remote kite surfing resort near La Paz Baja. I don’t kite but I went to relax. Loved it. Roma are great a clean. The food cooked by locals was exquisite. They have a daily special. Sometimes there is a choice. The bar is self serve and you just write down what you had. Tony the manager is so very helpful. He arranged for the taxi to and from the airport. I plan on going again once Covid has released us from bonding.

Uncomfortable owner to staff dynamic – one of the owners criticized the property manager in front of us (for not giving us a tour when we asked to do it later, as we wanted to rest for a minute in our bungalow). This seemed absolutely not worth criticism and particularly uncomfortable given that the racial undertones (of an expat property owner and Mexican employee). The bungalows were nice, altho the layout is confusing (coffee maker is in the bathroom right next to the sink??). The nearby beach is great for kite surfing but otherwise unspectacular. The overall price was quite high given the lack of resort facilities and comparable price points in most of Baja. The staff and the food are great. The honesty bar is a good touch. The ceilings of the buildings are beautiful. There were definitely some nice parts, but overall I wouldn't recommend.

Undoubtedly, VENTANA BAY RESORT is the best place in La Ventana if you are looking for relaxation and tranquility, next to a perfect kite spot. The facilities are lovely, and the rooms are comfortable, clean, and cozy. From the first moment, all the staff make you feel as if they were your family, as if you were in your own home, but not harassing. That is a feeling that in very few places you can achieve. And for kitesurfing the spot is great, not much people in the water, good environment, and very well-mannered. Highly recommended!

I just finished my third trip here. Absolutely fabulous for kiteboarding, reliable sideshow winds and clear and reasonably warm water (for winter). The staff and facilities are top-notch; food is very good and the winter weather is usually ideal. Great job Bill, Antonio, Marty, Roberto, Jill and the ladies in the kitchen!

Amazing resort!

Our kind of place, away from all the tourist hot spots, it feels like you have the entire beach to yourself. Staff is awesome and the food is amazing. If you’re into kiteboarding or want to learn, this is the place to stay.

This intimate resort totally exceeded our expectations. The location is perfect for some rest and relaxation or trying out the various sports that are offered. The staff are extremely friendly but also mindful of privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning and recommending it to our friends.

An hour's drive from La Paz. Very quiet private bungalows with a restaurant onsite. Note that all meals are over and above the room price; also on 2 of the 5 nights we were there the restaurant was closed in the evening and the menu offers no options. The food however is simple but good. The staff are very service oriented, particularly the restaurant staff. This resort caters mainly to people who come here to wind/kite surf (is that the expression?) The water is too cold for swimming and has lots of rocks. A great place for a quiet relaxing getaway, although you need to have your own transportation (1) to get there from La Paz and (2) to go into El Sargento for dinner on the nights the restaurant is closed.

My wife and I stayed at Ventana Bay Resort for seven days in late December, including the Christmas holiday. The resort is a visual delight, with unique dome-topped buildings, colorful tilework and masterfully-executed stonework. All this is beautiful, but the stars of the show are the blue ocean water, green mountains, and Cerralvo Island (aka Jacques Cousteau Island) offshore, which changes color in the shifting light. While the resort is a great place to just relax, the focus of most of the guests (or one (plus) of each party) is kiteboarding. During our stay, the wind was robust and the kites were out from mid-morning to late afternoon. The on-site kiteboarding school features cutting edge equipment that customers can rent or use in lessons. I was a complete novice, but kiting instructors Marty and Roberto helped me make rapid progress. They were highly skilled, patient, and fun to be around. We ate most breakfasts and lunches at Cisco's, the on-site restaurant. The food was high-quality, mostly Mexican, and delivered with a smile by Carla and the excellent staff. The restaurant does not typically serve dinner, but there were two exceptions during our stay, "Mexican Meal" on the 23rd and a Christmas meal on the 25th. Both were outstanding. It was a pleasure to enjoy margaritas served up by the multi-talented kite instructors and meet other guests and local visitors at these events. A special shout-out to Toni, the manager who keeps the resort running efficiently, and who offered great recommendations for dinner at local restaurants. All of the staff were wonderful and we appreciated their efforts to make our stay enjoyable. Adios, amigos--see you next time!

It was very new experience. In this place you will find something very special: Peaceful place, perfect beach, silence, beautiful nature, no people, absolutely personal service. Huge hug and respect to Antonio! He will care about you on highest level!

My friend and I spent a week here, taking kite surfing lessons, enjoying the beach and snorkeling. The resort is beautiful, the equipment excellent, the teachers are very experienced and skilled. Marty was able to teach this 54 year old non athletic man kiting proficiently by end of week. Wind every day in November. Eat all your meals here, the ladies cooking are nice and the food all homemade, fresh and excellent. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable with great showers. The view of the bay, island and beach is beautiful.

VBR is at the North end of the La Ventana, in the town of El Sargento. What you get from that is a quiet, beautiful stay away from the relative "crowds" in the southern part of town. If you are looking for the party, tv, lots of bar activity etc. this is NOT the place for you. If, instead, you are looking for access to a beautiful section of beach front and water, with super fresh and tasty onsite breakfasts and lunches, as well as access to bikes, SUP, kayaks etc. and clean, nicely appointed rooms, then this is the spot. We knew we wanted to explore the EXCELLENT mt. bike trails every day and they are a five minute ride from VBR. We chose to stay at this end of town because of that. Despite riding 5 days, we left much of the well maintained trail system untouched; guess we'll just have to go back! Bill, the owner, and Marco, Tony and Carla do an excellent job of making you feel immediately at home. They offer different meal options at different times of the year. TIP: Commit to breakfast and lunch there every day! The food is THE BEST in town and is made fresh and super easy. You can then spend your evenings exploring the modest selection of restaurants in town. Be prepared for dinner to take a long time. We started bringing card games.... One note: Wasn't aware that use of the resort equipment involved additional daily fees. They were fair and modest and well worth it. But just something to ask about.

Takes a bit of driving to get to but once there you its like your own villa by the sea. Great privacy but also opportunity to meet other kiteboarders and watersports enthusiast. Beautiful long beach, clear water.

I usually don't bother giving reviews. This beautiful little resort was even better in person. The photos made me want to go there and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was perfect.

Ventana Bay Resort is now one of my favorite places to stay. The staff is terrific, breakfasts are delicious, the location is pristine, quiet and so lovely. I wish we were there for longer and will stay here when we next return. I highly recommend VBR!!
