Hostal Montaloya

It is so loud down the hallway every time I person comes and goes. The sound is so loud from the bussing of the door. No sleep until 3 or 4 am due to this. Earplugs help but as I had an early wake up I needed to hear my alarm.

Great place to stay, convenient, competitively priced, and around a good area with direct connectivity to the metro.

Shower not practical for 6’5” and more tall people. But overall it was great.

This hotel is located in the heart of the city. It's very convenient to get to tourist locations by metro from the station immediately in front of the hotel or a short walk to the Sol plaza. The room was tidy and was cleaned every day when we visited. For the cost we paid for this trip with a friend, I am really not complaining.

Very central and directly opposite a metro station. Friendly and helpful staff. Small room, but still good value, a cheap price in a central area.

This was a great property for us. We enjoyed being on the front of the building overlooking the plaza. Some might not appreciate the noise, but we found the spirit in the street as joyful & entertaining. Our room was basic but had the space we needed. The bathroom was really nice for a hotel in this price range. We had a mini-fridge. I would have like an electric tea kettle. Most of the staff was tremendous. The women we had the first day & most days was amazing. She helped with several needs/queries, incuding leaving our luggage after our early overseas flight. Her English was as good as mine. I had two curt encounters with a male staff. He was determined not to try to communicate, even when I tried broken Spanish. My 76 y.o. partner fell & gashed his leg. We asked for an extra pillow to elevate his leg. He pretended to have no idea what I was saying, until I pointed to a picture. He insisted there were no extra pillows in the entire building. The next day, I clearly saw two brand new pillows in the laundry room. BUT everything else about this modest hotel was sweet. Amazingly convenient to public transportation. Metro & bus stop immediately across the street. Bus service directly to train station, Place de Mayor, Puerto del Sol. Several pleasant restaurants on our plaza. Really pleased.

Fantastic location! Bare bones room, but exactly as described. Comfortable bed. Only inconvenience was lack of electrical outlets but I jus unplugged the TV and fridge :-)

Pros: Staff was nice and understanding. The room was quiet and clean, no complaints. It hostel is close to many highlights of the city Cons: I would have appreciated a water bottle in the room. The AC was functional but it was leaking. I had to move the bed.

The hotel location is conveniente since its in front of the metro station and 8min walk feon the principal square. The area is a little noisy since in front of the hotel there are bars so it might be busy and noisy at night. It was clean and the rooms and spacious.

Great location

Tirso de Molina metro station is 20 steps from the front door. 5 minute walk to the city center. Front desk offered to hold my bags while I got coffee and walked around. Rooms are a bit dated but overall a decent place.

Nice place to stay for a couple of nights. PROS: Great location, walkable to main attractions (Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía, Museo del Prado). It is just in front of a Metro station and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Unbeatable location, clean room. CONS: They are kind enough to take care of your luggage either before checking in or after checking out. However, are not helpful at all if you need early check in or late check out. Room is decent but extremely small.

We stayed for a short break. The rooms were very clean and you could smell the products when you opened the doors. Rooms are basic and a little tired/worn but for the price point I’d accept that. They had the keys things, okay bed, bathroom, Aircon plus a fan to keep things cool. The staff were all very helpful and could not fault them.

It has some quirky charm as an old heritage building. My room was very small, which was fine as I had no intention of spending a lot of time there. It faced the courtyard and was quiet. The staff were very friendly and were happy to speak to me in Spanish despite my limited capabilities. The only problem I had was they did not seem to believe me that the air conditioning did not work. Yes, it blew some air, but the temperature did not change and it stayed hot in the room. Or perhaps they thought June is too early to turn on the cooling system? But I persisted with them about it and they did bring in a technician after my second night and got the A/C working again for the second floor. I slept very well the third night.

Right in the middle of everything but the building itself and the room needs major update. It’s quite dated, the elevator is tiny.

It was very clean and close to transportation

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They safely stored our luggage and offered to call a taxi for us when leaving. My bathroom door was bigger than the frame, and therefore unable to close. That was my only issue with the hostal.

Decent hostel in the middle of the city. For the price, I think it was decent. However, if you're sensitive to smell and noise, this might not be for you. The noise level is not optimal as you are near the theatres and right upstairs a bar. You'll smell the cigarettes and hear the conversations. The A/C unit did not work. Wifi was decent. The staff was really friendly, and always greeted us when we were in or out.

The man on reception was very rude on arrival. The room was clean. The bathroom was not accessible. This hostel is not accessible for people with a disability as stated. The location is convenient for the sights, but the area immediately outside does not feel safe especially at night. The view out of the window was a wall about 30cm away. The wallpaper was falling off and there were stains on the wall below the air conditioning unit. I would not stay here again or recommend to others.

Super convenient and near attractions so can walk everywhere. Pretty good deal for price and location but can be a little loud so would recommend earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Staff is super welcoming and helpful. They will clean your room daily if requested. Has a very small elevator so would not recommend trying to navigate with a large group with many suitcases.

It is an older building, but everything worked. Not the Ritz clean, but it was clean. Proper security measures for a mixed building. Loads of restaurants in the neighborhood. Close enough to everything, including a metro stop just outside the door.

Stayed 4 nights Friday -Monday.Reception was good.Spoke English(thank you 😀).Helpful before arrival on travel details. The room being quite small and dated was clean. Good wifi.A fridge was provided.Kettle would have been good too.Still coffee shops nearby. Also right by 2 supermarkets for breakfast items. Madrid is the city that never sleeps.Our room was on the first floor at the front of the building.We experienced this full-on.Friday & Saturday nights no sleep at all.Sunday Madrid does sleep,eventually.Monday Madrid starts again. This sleep deprivation is NO fault of the hotel,this is Madrid... The hotel is well located for sightseeing.All within walking distance. We survived with lack of sleep...

This property was terrible! I can't believe the reviews. The lobby and interior of the hotel was unsightly. The room was pretty clean but I didn't think they were serious about no bedding! What?! The shower was also tiny. Plus the air conditioning was weak. I was woken up the next morning with pounding all over the roof. Some sort of construction I assume. Plus, that's was the smell of cigarettes coming through the vents. I checked out after the first day of my six day booking. The front desk didn't offer to partially refund me or even attempt to rectify the situation!

Very clean and perfect location. Quiet rooms though the one I was in was towards the back of the building. Only issue I had was the WiFi didn’t work well. Thankyou!

Arrival was very pleasant. The pillows and mattress are new and super comfy. The shower is small and also new with plenty of hot water. The room is very large. Sheets and towels crisp and white. Location is excellent. It is noisy but it is Spain!

Reception not so friendly, bathroom had a constant stench of cigarettes from someone smoking in the connected airvent. Cleanliness was very good

The hostel is in a great location, right opposite the Tirso the Molina metro station. Many of Madrid's attractions are walkable from the hostel with a lot of restaurants and supermarkets nearby. The triple room we stayed in was clean, spacious and comfortable. It had a minifridge as well which was very convenient. Did not have many interactions with the staff as we stayed just 1 night but all of them were friendly and spoke good English. Overall highly recommended.

A great value hotel located in Lavapies and close to Atocha Renfe and Plaza del Sol. The property is basic but clean and comfortable with friendly and very helpful staff.

The location was great for a weekend trip, a 10-15 minute walk to most of the places we wanted to visit and not too difficult to get to from the airport! Allowed us to leave our bags before we checked in and after we checked out, which made it easier to make the most of our few days in the city. Mickey was lovely, very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again if we ever came back to Madrid!

The room is clean but there's no water boiler nor cups for morning coffee. The shower is not stable, it's icy a second and boiling the next. Be careful with that. Staff, though, are extremely helpful and location is great.

The service was excellent - the guy who checked us in was patient, sweet, and carried all our luggage up the stairs for us. This place was honestly nicer than a lot of hotels I've stayed in. It was spacious, private, stylish, the bed was extremely comfortable, and we had a great view of the plaza through a pair of double doors to the small balcony. I mean, a private hostel room with a balcony?? Is that even still a hostel? Shower was great, plenty of water pressure and hot water (and an in shower soap dispenser that came in handy, since I forgot to pack body wash). Next time I'm in Madrid I'll skip Airbnb and just stay here in the double room instead. Absolutely wonderful and shockingly cheap, especially considering it was a really big weekend to visit Madrid.

Third time I’ve stayed here. Staff are friendly, rooms are clean, it’s central to most things, it’s next to a metro station and it’s inexpensive. A great place to stay if you just need a place to sleep.

Nice clean Hotel, placed near the center of the city. Very good service, nice friendly staff, clean, nice rooms, good value for the money. But the fact that is in the center, it was a little bit of a downer, I did not sleep very well with all the noise.

The front desk was extremely rude and acted like she wanted to get rid of me. After dinner I came back and there were some seedy looking people chatting with her at the front desk. I was scared.

This place is right in the middle of where you want to be. There are many things that go on within a 1 to 8 min walk. All the plazas, shops and restaurants are right there. The room is not that big but we didn't spend most of our time there, it was only for sleeping which was fine.

Have stayed here a few times. Great location and friendly welcoming staff. Metro literally outside the front door. Plenty of surrounding tapas bars and 5 min walk to Puerta del Sol.

First of all, the hostel has a superb location in the central quarter of Madrid. Only 2 minutes to metro Tirso de Molina, and about 7-10 minutes walk to the main attractions of the city, e.g. Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, Prado Museum. Close to the hostel, there are many coffee bars where it is possible to get breakfast. Rooms are located on the 2nd floor. I had the room number 206 and it is one of the best ones (a room full of light and in a blue color, look at the website). The room was big enough comparing to other hostels in Madrid (I was in four other hostels where rooms were very small). The bathroom has been renewed. It was equipped with a hairdryer. In the room, there are two chairs, a wardrobe, TV, and a fridge. The bed was a little bit hard but big enough. I was in October when days were cold. But in the wardrobe, I found the blanket. It was OK to feel warm in the night. The room has a window to the Plaza Tirso de Molina what is its biggest advantage. WiFi works very well. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I needed to print boarding pass and ticket to the Royal Palace. There was no problem to do that. Cleaning service on the request. Concluding, I highly recommend Hostal Montaloya for short as well as longer stay in Madrid.

Great location in Madrid and the hotel staff are excellent. The room was clean and comfortable.

Positive aspects: Nice hostel, clean sheets, very good small fridge (it froze some tomatoes I left inside it), nice range of tv channels, located REALLY close to Tirso de Molina métro Station and to 2 small supermarkets (one being open 24h). It was handy to be just some meters away from metro station, specially because we did some day trips from Madrid and had to take the train from atocha-renfe station. Alongside that, staff was kind and helpful. Negative aspects: toilet seat was crushed between the shower and the wall (good luck if you are fat), bed could be bigger for an average height couple, pillow could be not so big. Overall this is a great hostel.

I am pretty much not very satisfied with the hotel. Few reasons are like there is a construction going on site which is not good as you enter the hotel. This also creates bad smell near the reception area.The air condition in the room i guess is pre-set where it switches off every few minutes. The lighting in the room is very less , one of them was not working. The window opens up to the opposite rooms so do not want to open it or atleast remove curtains. The walls are thin and can hear people coming late night which is little disturbing. The bathroom is too small , can hardly move . In the night you really need to be careful in this area. Good points: The hotel is almost in the centre of Madrid . From and too the airport taxi costs Euro 30 which has been fixed by the government. Also the hotel is not far from Atocha station , taxi took Euro 10 from the station as he also charged me parking fee for the station. Room size is ok but no english channels on the TV. The building is old but they have put in some safety features as you need your key card to enter the building and floor as well. The people at reception are helpful and speak good english. There is a small supermarket nearby. There is also a shopping area nearby and also the metro station is just below the hotel. Hotel does not provide any breakfast or food.But Many places to ear nearby , problem is most of them do not open early if you need to get out of the city. I did not find the price charged to be justifying the stay , also i think this is because of the summer tourist time of the year.

Had a fantastic few days. The hostal is clean and well situated. The receptionists were brilliant, knowledgeable and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep every night. The room was air conditioned and contained a very useful fridge. Would definitely return.

Nice clean, cheap hotel in great ubication, with nice staff

Such a lovely hostel, I stayed in the double room with a friend , it was very big and clean with air conditioning and the bathroom was clean. WiFi was very good throughout the hostel. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again and recommend. The location is perfect and very central, it being only a five min walk to plaza mayor and puerto de sol .

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location is great. Walking distance to most of the tourist spots. And if you need the subway it is 20 steps from the front door. The room was very clean and the people working the front desk were very helpful. It’s not fancy but the price was good for the location, air conditioning and an elevator.

Noisy smell

The accommodation was pretty much what you would expect from a hostal in a capital city. Four of us had very small and basic single rooms. The major plus was the safety aspect. A key card was needed to access the building and was needed again to get onto your floor and obviously to enter your room. A second benefit was the Tirso de Molina Metro Station was literally outside the door. From here you could get about the city in speed and relative comfort. If the Metro isn’t for you, this Hostal is within easy walking distance of Puerto Del Sol, Plaza Mayor etc. If you are in Madrid on a Sunday the fantastic Rastro street market starts almost on your doorstep. We had a nosey at a room which was being cleaned on our floor that appeared as good a room as any four star hotel. A king sized bed within a very spacious bedroom, a balcony with view, walk-in wardrobe and a massive bathroom. Perhaps worthy of further investigation.

Location is very convenient, many attractions are within walking distance. Staffs are helpful. Has a lift. The room and bed is clean. The room is extremely small, no facility, but the advantage is the location.

Excellent location, price and good hostel with wonderful staff. Strongly recommend it. Dated two nights and enjoyed it.
