Everything was very nice
The positives are that the staff are amazing, its spotlessly clean and the breakfast really fresh. Checking in process easy and the chap on reception lovely. felt safe and pleasant as a lone traveller and carparking good.
I think this won't be a permenant issue, but as Spalding is experiencing a lot of roadworks, the traffic noise was a lot and so it was a poor nights sleep. The venue is on a slip road and I imagine under normal circumstances the volume of traffic would be less, but it was pretty constant and as the building older and the windows tradition: there was a lot of noise. I mention as a pair of earplugs would be worth packing.
Location for an event that was nearby
We had a room where the window didn’t open as it was faulty. We did mention it to the receptionist and we was given another room. Also the ev charger was not working
Good
No hot water, room in need of some tlc
Location
Breakfast staff didn’t appear to be interested in the service
Centrally located, easy to access
The room furniture was worn out, tears in the upholstery. Only 1 towel in the room
The location and staff both great
The first room we were given was very tired and needed updating. No way to close a blind on the skylight.
Great property
Double bed in room 9 seemed small
Location fine, with ample & easy parking, & good access to the town centre. Breakfast (included in the room rate): excellent 'full English' + fruit, croissants, yoghurt etc. Bar: friendly & peaceful, with charming, helpful, welcoming manageress.
Shower needed a non-slip mat.
Location & Breakfast was very good.
Room was in the basement, only light was a 2ftx2ft skylight. Had to duck down in the corridor just to get into the bedroom, felt very claustrophobic.
Location Comfort bed Nice breakfast
Room 12 curtains have seen better days. The lining was torn Smell on main corridor- mould smell
The location was lovely, the staff were friendly, and we really liked the décor in our bedroom. The room itself was a great size, and the bathroom looked very nice too.
Upon arrival, I went to use the bathroom in the hotel and discovered the flush didn’t work. After getting some soap, I realised there was no running water at all. When I went to reception/bar, they were already aware of the issue — a sign would have been helpful. The toilet seat in the bedroom was loose and kept shifting, which caused me to twist my back. The shower was also almost blocked, so the water wasn’t draining properly and the bathroom was close to flooding. The bedroom had a large bay window, and in September the nights are already quite cold. The heating hadn’t been turned on, and no warm blanket or duvet was provided, so I was cold throughout the night. Breakfast was disappointing: very greasy, and the mushrooms and tomato were cold. There was no option for a specific coffee — only basic percolated coffee available. Overall, the hotel felt very run down.
We had an upstairs room in the coach house but the window did not open, ( my wife is very claustrophobic ) so they quite happily changed our room to a downstairs room with a window which would open. ,which was better for me as well as my mobility is bad. Bed was very comfortable and nice size Bathroom. Plenty of choice for Breakfast as well.
Nothing really. They looked after us quite well.
It was very quirky and had a lovely feel about it. The staff were excellent and breakfast was fab, nothing was too much trouble for the chef. Had a lovely outside space too
Lovely room very clean
Room near the front door and lounge area, could hear everything
Very convenient location and easy access. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast choices and nice size full English.
The car park needs the white lines repainting or customers who can park within them.
Friendly people
This is the third time staying at this hotel, we come back because we really like it. The breakfast is excellent and this was the first time having dinner, which was lovely
Nothing, everything was great, as usual
Location great, room size good and kitchen great
They had an issue with the plumbing, this caused a loud drilling sound on and off all night long, I did not sleep a wink. The radiator was on full blast in the bathroom (28 degree heat outside and in) no way of switching this off. The tv didn’t work very well.
Lovely place, great location. Excellent breakfast.
Only lacking air conditioning and ability to get ventilation in the rooms.
Staff was very friendly breakfast was excellent.
Room nine was okay except MDF toilet seat was cracked and unhygienic shower needed a bath mat very slippery.
Location and helpful staff
Room we were allocated hadn’t been cleaned had to be moved to another room and was so hot and could only open a small window
Location and staff were helpful
Patches of filler on the walls, room was boiling and couldn’t open the window as it was broken and wouldn’t stay up, even when I propped inner window up the outer windows had security tags on despite being an upstairs room so wouldn’t open more than an inch or two
It is a wonderful Georgian building
booking in great, bed clean and comfortable, bathroom enormous and clean.
Sink in bathroom drained at a very slow rate. Only powdered coffee in room. Birthday party right outside our downstairs suite then clearing up afterwards - noise ceased just gone 11. The cooked breakfast was only just warm, tomatoes were cold. When we arrived at breakfast yogurt empty, likewise fruit bowl. I asked politely for replenishment - took over 10 minutes. Perculated coffee - no fresh coffee ? For £178 for 1 night sorry do not think this was value for money.
Very noisy as in main road. Hot room with one window to open 4” that was wedged open with half a tree log!
As above. Couldn’t close curtains properly as both windows had curtains that were hanging off the rails with broken fittings. Sunshine blazing through already hot room! Breakfast was very basic. For £315 for 2 nights, this was poor and expected a better class of property.
The breakfast was nice and served quick.
Unpleasant smell on the bathroom. Very noisy plumbing. Whenever somone in any of the surrounding rooms flished the toilet the plumbing would make loud horrible nosies which meant I didnt get much sleep. The bed was very small. And the room was very hot.
Decor of bar and lounge were nice, receptionist was friendly and helpful
Bed creaked with every movement, there were loud plumbing noises through the night every few minutes leading to very limited sleep.
The staff and breakfast were lovely and the bed was comfortable
There were ants crawling all over the dressing table and tea tray. There was an extremely loud macerator in the bathroom that made an horrendous noise every time you flushed the toilet, turned on the tap and it went off every few minutes you were in the shower. Unfortunately would not stay again
Large room (junior suite) with very large modern bathroom. Really comfy bed. Staff were very friendly and accommodating
Parking is a tad limited and property had old fashioned charm but was a little tired in places (eg furniture).
The hotel was lovely: there was a very nice entry, lounge, bar and dinning area. I enjoyed the deck overlooking the garden. The room was large with good light nice views of the river and the town beyond. The road wasn't too busy or noisy. The hotel's location on the other side of the river from the town suited me as a base from which to explore Lincolnshire and my family's history. It was near (by car) to the Church of St Mary and St Nicolas and the Ayscoughfee Hall with it's beautiful gardens and museum. I enjoyed having dinner at the Moorings restaurant a few hundred meters along the river from the hotel.
Everything was good.
The room was so spacious, with all amenities we needed, breakfast was very good too.
Nothing
Location
Very convenient and a plumbing problem was sorted promptly.
No bar or staff around on Sunday evening
Very friendly staff and ease of check in/out. Great location
Room was very small but price reflected that, sad not to have a window, very noisy pipes in bathroom and felt a little dated
Friendliness of staff, excellent location, spacious rooms and great food
Nothing
Location ideal for us. Food was very good and the staff couldn't be more helpful
Nice approach along river passing a pub just 2 mins before on the river with balconys outside. .on arrival easy to pull in on free carpark .periodic features throughout, stylish cosy lounge and bar. Lovley outside rear seating area in garden varied levels. Rooms periodic and well styled with large window . Fan .iron etc in cuboard, great size wooden bed.. Good selection of drinks at bar and very good breakfast choice. Walk out by river to hall and park or over bridge to center of spalding in 5 mins.
Could do with umbrellas for seating outside or more shaded areas. Typical iron stain on carpet and mark by careless guest on furniture.Otherwise very good standard and clean.
Op loopafstand van het centrum en eenvoudig parkeren voor de deur. Heerlijk ontbijt.
Closeness to city centre
Room was small
Nothing
Room was not what was advertised
Great room. Very comfy bed. Thought the road might be noisy but it wasn't. Slept really well. Best breakfast of all the places we stayed that week.
I prefer a shower cubicle. I realise that walk in style is becoming more popular but I find them cold and draughty without a door to keep the warm air in.
Location, breakfast and hotel facilities.
In attic, 6ft or over you have to mind your head.
Booked by pure chance. Value excellent. If the room had Aircon it would have been 10 out of 10. Just being a bit picky
All good.
Everything
Nothing
Comfortable room in separate annex, breakfast good.
Felt a little soulless and as if it had once seen better days.
Everything.
Only possible improvement would have been a bath mat for safety in the shower. Quite dangerous without one we felt. Nice to have one 'just in case' - and we're relatively young.
Location by river and close to town centre Breakfast excellent
Needed a repair down un bathroom, not really fixed during our stay even though flagged up first day
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, also the breakfast was good and plentiful. On site parking was available and free.
The main problem with this property was that there was no hot water to shower or bathe. I was told that the boilers had broken down and they were awaiting the parts under guarantee. I presume they were aware of this very big problem before our booking and certainly wouldn’t book a room with no hot water if I’d been advised. The last point is that there is no receptionist onsite from 10pm till 9am. They do say you can phone in case of emergency!
We've used this hotel several times as it's very close to where our friends live and we were going to see them. Cley Hall is clean and comfortable and always a delicious breakfast.
Parking can be difficult occasionally and the rooms warm on very hot days. Otherwise very good.
The hotel is in a beautiful Georgian house next to the river. The room itself was spacious and nicely decorated. It even had a kitchenette which we weren’t expecting. The staff were helpful, meals served promptly and the menu was good. Parking wasn’t a problem.
We were in an annex but we couldn’t help but notice that the main house could do with some money being spent on it. Some of the decor was garish and out of keeping with the style of building and some of the furniture was charity shop and had seen better days. One of us didn’t like the television being on during breakfast in the morning. Neither of us liked the faint smell of drains intermittently hovering over the bathroom sink. The staff were pleasant and friendly but if they had been more smartly dressed that would have been better still.
Convenient location for our needs. Helpful and friendly staff
A day with no hot water!!
The room was amazing. the car park was at the hotel and it was free .the room was spotless clean .The staff so helpful and the cook was most understanding with my dietary needs. .The duty manager Ben was most helpful. And made us both welcome ..there a bar at the hotel and the prices reasonable .the place was spotless. Breakfast was freshly cooked to your order you placed each morning .all produced where brought local. you could have a full English breakfast or cereals fruit yoghurts fruit juice tea or coffee and toast. The scramble egg the best I ever eating in any hotel. there a patio to seat out in when weather a bit warmer.it was a 10 min walk to Spalding shopping centre lots of shops cafes and restaurants there Thank you for making our stay amazing. We booked to go back again in June .
no drawers in the bedroom to put clothes away , or a rail to hang up your clothes need to put a chair to seat on the toilet seat moved was not stable to take a person weight. there restaurant was not open at the weekends.
We had a suite it was amazing. The lady that runs the place is really lovely
Good location for exploring Spalding
Noisy plumbing in room 8
Lovely room, comfortable
When we got there we was told there was a party. So music was load.. there was no where to sit in the lobby for us to have a drink
We've stayed here a few times as it's very near to friends. As usual the bed was very comfortable and a delicious breakfast included in the price we paid.
Lovely breakfast, comfortable beds and quiet
Unfortunately breakfast times alter. We arrived Friday afternoon and was informed 8am until 10am. Unfortunately when we went Monday morning before leaving, breakfast closed at 9am, totally unaware of. We were 8 minutes late and were offered nothing. It would have been nice to be made aware of this, other than reading in the book at a later date!
Disappointed with room under the stairs, no fire info and only one way out to hallway. Entry door to room suggested it used to be store room. Water system/ toilet very noisy, like there was a monster in the system. No evening meals, bar closed at 8pm. Staff friendly and accommodating but venue tired.
Fire exit, better room. Bar open later, quieter water/ drainage system.
The Junior Suite was lovely - we have stayed before and everything was just as before. Location was key for us and this was perfect. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. The staff were really friendly. Couldn't ask for more.
There were just a few bits of disrepair in the old steps front and back of the hotel. The garden could do with a bit of love.
Room was comfy and clean and staff and breakfast were great, Parking was just outside the property,
Nothing
Spacious room. Coffee and tea facilities. Big shower. The lady who checked me in and out was very friendly - great customer service
The staff member who was taking the breakfast orders. Not very friendly
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast each morning was amazing with lots of choice between hot foods and continental style options. Generally the room was clean.
The images of rooms are nothing like what we experienced. The room we had was compact and tired with fittings that were very worn and needed a lot of repair or replacement. I dont know when this was rated 4star but I wouldn't rate it as this.
Nice breakfast
I had to leave 2 days early and asked if I could get a refund for last night and was told that would be fine but then refused via booking.com as it states the hotel said the opposite to what they told me .
Lovely welcome.
The executive bedroom was larger than expected and the cooking facilities would have been useful. The main hotel had a nice lounge area which we wish we had had an opportunity to enjoy. The location was convenient.
Good breakfast & location
Very noisy plumbing (rooms 21 & 32), tv remote didnt work (room 21) and no heating (room 21), no telephone in romms to call for assistance (rooms 21 & 22).
The room was lovely and big. The price included breakfast, staff said it was exceptional.
When I arrived, I was placed in the coach house because there was a party going on and my room was going to be next to it. The room was cold and smelled mouldy; the hot breakfast was cold and not very nice. Parking is limited. There is extra parking 100 yards up the road.
Plenty of choices at breakfast. Good location for local attractions.
My daughter stayed here the night before her wedding and we were both blown away by the staffs kindness, professionalism, attention to detail and making sure she had the best possible stay. The room was outstanding too! Thank you all so much!
Lovely old building with lots of character. Lovely size room and excellent breakfast
Water was a bit cloudy
Hotel and rooms are clean.
The shower was leaking badly and drain plug partially blocked. Had to have a very quick shower. Room had a bad smell. Restaurant food was so bland, everything out of a packet, even the veg was out of the packet, its no wonder the restaurant was empty! I woudnt book again
Bigger room than expected. Hotel really well appointed, nice bar area and great breakfast choice
No food available in evening
Friendly and clean
Nothing
The guy on check in was extremely friendly, professional and very efficient. He welcomed me with a big smile and gave me all the information required for my stay. The room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was superb, both cooked and continental options. This was my second stay at Cley Hall and I will definitely be returning when I next visit the area.
Nothing to dislike
Near the town
Only evening meals Monday Tuesday and Wednesday
The room we stayed was comfortable and spacious. The bed was soft and good. The food is freshly prepared. Dinner and breakfast were top notch.
Occasional noise when w/c is flushed
Location excellent for visiting town, museum ,Springfield outlet and walking along the canal. Huge variety of things to eat for breakfast and cooked breakfast freshly cooked to order.

Fantastic staff. Lovely building.
Nothing, spot on.
Staff member very helpful. Breakfast plentiful and tasty.
First room no more than large understair cupboard without window. Paid for upgrade, room dirty, curtains I'll fitting, mattress protector very soiled.
Surroundings. Ground floor room. Nice shower.
Couldn’t get Netflix although on tv
Very friendly welcome and staff, comfortable room with great linen and hot water, cracking breakfast. Excellent value for money.
