Hotel Arena Palace Montreal

First thing the quality of the images on the website does not match reality so it is like i booked something from here and got a completely different thing. For example, the bathroom did not have a hanger for toilet paper or the towel. they have a no refund policy. I tried talking that this does not match what I booked and I need a refund to be able to go somewhere else and the response was I will get an email in 3 days to decide if i am eligible for a refund. The room looks clean but the details are not so it is like it was not professionally cleaned in a while. Like there were dust under the bed and windows frame corners were not cleaned much longer also the fan. The bathroom does not have garbage bag in the garbage pin. put the images. the staff was friendly and polite though

Theres no tv and plus toilet shower thanks for asking but its good

I didn’t get to use the room I had booked for and they took my money after just 5 minutes of booking. Called the manager immediately but he refused to refund after 5 minutes. No proper customer service.

It was not too bad. The room was comfortable, the shared bathroom was clean but the sink was in my room so I had to leave the bathroom and go back to my room before I could wash my hands. The ceiling fan made it comfortable because it was very hot outside. The staff were very courteous and carried my luggage when I arrived, and they always treated me well. Most of them knew English. There were electric bikes for rent just across the street and there were lots of coffee shops and other businesses close by. There was also 2 large catholic cathedrals within walking distance, and the catacombs as well. It were affordable, which was especially important seeing as how I was stranded there because of the Air Canada strike. The only thing I really didn’t like was that there was no coffee or tea available. There was also no Bible left in the night table. I thought that every hotel was supposed to have one, but apparently I was wrong.

no washroom, no tv,the bed smells terrible and no shower room.

A cheap hotel in a very convenient location. The staff was friendly and the room comfortable.

You don’t have your own bathroom or toilet, it’s shared. You only have a bed and a sink. Also no AC consider that with the weather because it’s slightly hotter in the room than outside ( we were on the 3d floor. Only stairs no elevator

I did not stay, and they charged me, it was dirty and smelled bad. As soon as I arrived I left and they did not return the days that the property remained, "scammers."

Everything was absolutely terrible. Bed mattress was the worst I’ve seen in years, extremely noisy. Paint falling off the walls and no AC was offered when the temperature was nearing 30 degrees in our room. Wouldn’t even dare to pay 50$ for a night, let alone 162$…

The room was unbearably smoky, as if people had been smoking there for years. It was impossible to breathe or get comfortable. The condition of the room was unacceptable: Very old and shabby furniture Chipped doors and a cracked, broken sink Curtains simply nailed to the wall without a rod Paint peeling off the walls Visible dirt on the floor The fan only worked with the light switched on, making it impossible to use during the hot August night In addition, there was a bar nearby, and the noise lasted until 2 a.m., making sleep impossible. The only positive point was that the bed linen and towels were clean. Unfortunately, everything else was old, dirty, and poorly maintained. We arrived late at night (around 10 p.m.), so we had no chance to find another place. I had to stay there with my child, and it was truly an awful experience

Limited free parking on street. Friendly staff. Shared bathroom and shower. No air conditioning. Bar below hotel. Noisy area. Great location.

The moment I arrived to the building, the hallway is smell so bad and the room is so hot and the window broken and open which is a lot of flies and mosquitoes in!, I went talked to the guest service and he(daniel) said that theres nothing he can do!, How can you stay in that kind of situations if your health at risk. I moved to a different hotel and unfortunately the payment if not refundable!! Very terrible experience!,

Walkable location

It was good for only 2 days

Very bad place. Had to leave after 30 minutes because my daughter has asthma and the room smells mold and couldn't breath well. Also, no AC when it was 34 degree. Made her condition worse. We paid for 2 nights and hoping will get a refund for at least 1 night. The only good thing is the staff, we found Very friendly and knowledgeable.

Had bedbug bites when I got home. No AC. Sheets have sus stains. Only good thing is it’s very close to the train station.

Clean, nice staff and a classy atmosphere. Very happy, especially for the price.

Completely agree with all the negative comments. We travel extensively and have stayed in many low-end hotels in the Caribbean, but we have never encountered such a poorly maintained place. The city should review its license and consider closing it due to high health risks.

The room looked like broom closet.

Terrible place, do not recomend

The worst place in the world. Don't go with this hotel. We had to change it when we saw it there. Without any return. No AC in the room, no washroom in the room, very old building, disgusting, the doors can not be locked, no elevator, no parking lot and you have to park way far and pay for parking in each 2 hour No air in the room... They say it's cheap and you shouldn't expect anything Don't trust to pictures in the website

i like the friend relation ship of the ambiance

Room smell bad

On entry to the building, my first impression was- low standard and my suspicions were soon confirmed. There are 2 flights of steep stairs leading to our floor and on entering the room, the pillow cases were dirty and had hair all over them. The blanket on the bed had holes in it- evidently due to cigarette burns.. No toilet paper. Ceiling fan not working- although a portable fan in poor condition was later provided. We had 3 nights of poor sleep due to the extreme heat in the room. A coffee machine was provided but without cups or any coffee ingredients. The so called private bathroom was so narrow that you had to enter it sideways. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

This place is terrible. No A/C. No screens in the windows. Smells like a chain smoker lives there. You have to buzz in every time you enter the building and hope the guys is awake. No parking, none at all. The ceiling fan had 2 out of 3 lights burnt out. You can’t have the fan on and lights off. Outlets are only 2 prong without a ground. If you try and get a refund, the wont answer the phone when Expedia calls them.

Very good placê, clean

The room was very small. It had a smell inside the whole apartment. Not a great stay to enjoy. Morning staff was not very friendly. The fan was not working, it was so hot inside the room. Very very small bathroom, so so so tiny.

It was dirty and not as advertised

You get what you pay for here. It’s a very run down place that smells of smoke, and the bed is uncomfortable. The sheets don’t look clean either. There is a shared bathroom on each floor. I’m really not complaining though as it was a cheap place to stay for the F1 race, and just down the road from the Metro.

Terrible it’s scary and shouldn’t be advertise in online.. not convenient to stay there. It’s too expensive for the amount that I’ve paid.

Nice place

The staff were polite, but I did not like anything else about the place. It really was not a good setup.. Caution in strongly advised if going out after dark! Good luck.

Low key, no frills place. Be aware of which room you're booking, not all of them have an integrated bathroom, but some do. Owners/people who worked there were all very kind and helpful. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone, but for the purposes of my short Mtl work trip, it absolutely did the job.

Very dirty and smells like whid , not comfortable at all

J'ai passe deux bonne soiree.

Dirty, filthy, extremely old, full of rats. Since arrival, bedsheets were not washed. Found the bed full of hairs, and the cushion with lipstick. Definitely a 3rd world country hotel.

You get what you pay for. Room was clean, staff was nice, and it's in a very convenient spot.

Not being able to have a shower in the center of one the most famous cities in the world is a shame😬

There was bed bugs:(

the bed was so bad my backs broken theres a strange smell

Bad

The most discussting place I’ve ever seen

It is not hotel, was surprised

Was worried about the quality for such a good price but was pleasantly surprised. Old everything but room was clean. Shower was clean enough. Room had it's own sink. Great location right next to the metro. Good cheap option if you just need a place to crash

Smelly place! Just don't go!!

Vey dirty smelly

The staff and their hospitality are good. The location is great. Transportation/food and entertainment all close by. Hower the hotel needs major upgrade. The place is cheap to stay. Would I stay there again???

Impossible de passer une nuit dans ces chambres horribles

very okay for the price but the area the hotel is located is not too safe

Old nostalgic decor and clean making my stay an eventful time.

For the incredibly reasonable price, we got a warm room with clean beds, and 24hr front door service for security. Two min walk to the metro, short walk (even shorter subway trip) to Old Montreal, Chinatown, the ports.

Its so unhygienic

Run down rooming house

one of the worst hotels i have ever been to. room was tiny. had stains all over the carpet and on the mattress. place has a strict no smoking policy and yet it constantly smells like cigarette smoke. the room i booked was for 2 adults and i got a bed barely big enough for one person. not to mention the air freshener thing they put in my room made it so hard to breathe that i had to unplug it.. which in turn led to my room smelling like smoke... what the heck is this place

Felt like I was in Europe ... Charming old and warm and welcoming

It was awesomely quiet, and managed to get a lot of writing done. I felt like I was in Europe visiting my Grandpa. Just hold old fashion comfort.

Good old fashioned surrroundings like being in Europe

The man who checked us in was very friendly! That and the fact the bed was comfortable and clean were the only redeeming things about this place. The price is EXACTLY what you pay for. The rooms are old, dilapidated and have questionable appliances. Despite the no smoking, our room reeked of cigarettes (there was one left half smoked on the window sill and a pile of ash over the radiator.) There were used condoms in the trash from the previous occupant. The only housekeeping this hotel does is changing the bed sheets. All that to say, it is incredibly close to the Berri-UQAM metro station and there is a super cool punk dive bar in the basement. So if you’re looking for a place to keep your things while you run around the city, it’s perfect. They do actually have 24/7 concierge so you can freely come and go. Great for a weekend out on the town, I would avoid looking at anything too closely in the daylight. No bedbugs or cockroaches though. TLDR: Great doorman; old, dirty rooms; very few amenities but safe enough once you’re inside.

Stay was alright.

this hotel is scam. Dont't book a room here!!

Not maintained

À peine un filet d’eau pour la douche, eau chaude pendant 2 minutes seulement

This place should not be advertised! Deplorable living conditions. The putrid smell packs a punch. Dilapidated room. I reiterate the unsanitary conditions. Smell of moisture is pretty distinctive. Layers of mold in the room. Washroom was icy. Heater was inoperative!!! Bathroom stinked. Putrid smell. Reeks of vomit like smell. Bed cloth is stained. No water pressure in the wash basin found in the room. And if water should spurt out, it would be brakish... Disgusting, unhygenic place. The owner is stealing money.

Worst place ever

.

It was good

I booked a 2-night stay and called to confirm that I would be checking in late. I was told that late check-in could not be accommodated, but that I could check in the following morning. When I showed up the following morning i was told that my room had been rebooked and that I would have to check in after 4pm after my room was cleaned, even though my card was charged for a 2 night stay through Expedia. The employee working the desk was hostile and appeared to be quite inconvenienced by my attempts to check in. I ultimately had to book a room for the night at another hotel, because I did not feel safe returning there or dealing with the employee again. Expedia did not refund me.

My room did not have a washroom and smelled terrible. The property is very poor that I have to vacate immediately.

This place is one star or less. The staff was nice . This place needs repairs and update and upgrades.

Avons choisi l’endroit car pet friendly.

It’s not the most fancy hotel but if you are just tryna to put a cheap and safe roof over your head i recommend it.

It's fine for what it costs. Close to everything. Manager and most staff are very reasonable. The staff member who checked me in however was rude and yelled at me to leave. I had a lot of extra luggage with me admittedly but a weary traveler does not deserve this treatment when moving cities with her cat. The room was stuffy and smelled bad. There is no cleaning service during your stay. Just temper your expectations and it will do in a pinch. Bring cash!

This is a "you get what you pay for" situation. Yes it is sketchy, yes you kind of get the "no" feeling when you're in there, but it is a cheaper option than most. I survived and nothing was stolen, so that is good!

Dirty, Smelly, Noisy, Late in Check in, Staff are not friendly

I left the property. I didn't stay there, it was unclean and i felt unsafe

Not accessible at all, room had stuff splattered on wall, very loud (above a bar), had people try to get in my room multiple times, no a/c so very hot. The guy who worked some nights was very nice, but all the other staff was very rude and one would not let me into the premises at one point. You get what you pay for though!

Nothing really in room including no air conditioning

Check in time was 4pm and check out is around 10-11am

Nice downtown and cheap spot

Terrible

Nice little building in an amazing location (right next to berri-UQAM metro station). the only issue i had during my stay was that there was no air conditioning, and i was there on a 30° weekend so it was nearly unbearable temperature-wise

Didn't look the same as seen on commercial online. The pictures shows the big building in the area but not the actual building. Very poor condition, bad odour inside, smoking odours. It says parking lot available but in actual fact, there is no parking space for the building, only the street parking for pay. No air conditioning. I would not recommend this property.

It was okay. It was clean, but tiny. The ceiling fan is connected to the light, so not the best during summer with no AC. But the window opened, so that helped. Very friendly service.

One of the most awful hotels I have ever stayed at.

No facilities at all!!

The customer service was the best part of it: the employees do what they can with the lemon they are working with. The room was way too warm and the ceiling fan was not accessible (or working?). There is no window screen, so no way to prevent bugs from coming in. There is a strong cleaning product smell that last all of the night. And I've got multiple bug bites (85% certain there are bedbugs in the room). Please steer clear from this lemon.

No AC and ventilation. Tiny rooms with no space to move around. We had an awful experience here. It’s totally wast of time/money to stay here.

No toilet inside the room ( need to go hallway to use it) No shower room (you need to pay extra $10 to have own shower) No toilet paper, no towel, no shampoo, no soap, no telephone) these are mandatory in rooms. Noisy in surroundings from midnight to 4am (homeless people talking and laughing and screaming, can hear in broken windows) No reception area to sit Door at entrance automatically closed when you get out. So when you come back from walking or getting something from car, you need to door bell and wait until the receptionist comes (5-10 mins is long enough) No air conditioning, there is ceiling fan but when you turn off the light it also turned off the fan. So need to leave the light open the whole time, which makes uncomfortable and more hot inside the room. Not coming back and not recommended.

This is a hostel. The rooms are bare bone, no TV, no fridge, the towels were thin and old. We unfortunately overpay for this room. It is not worth $250 CAD.

Bad and did not look like pictures

,

This hotel was no-frills but it did the job. The bed was comfortable and I had everything that I needed for a short stay!

This is a no-frills place that did the job for the brief amount of time that I was in the city! Everything was decent if you don't expect the "frills". It is central and near all the amenities. Great if you don't drive. Clean and decently-maintained.

Very old and dated facility dusty cobwebs uncomfortable mattress smells of cigarettes parking is not available or free mix up on our reservation double charged Decent location & hot strong shower

I didn't stay there . The place looks terrible

What was shared on the site was not true

Worst place in Montréal

Smelled like cigarettes (very strong in hallway, not as bad in the room). The private shower felt secure and had warm water. At times, there was no toilet paper in one of the communal bathrooms. There was also little to no hand soap, so we used bar soap instead.
